I am new to Baltimore (from Cali), so I felt compelled to check the reviews prior to coming down. That said, I was up for a positive dining experience! My first experience was just after Easter 2026. We arrived at 7:30 and dined on the ding side of the restaurant. Upon ordering I as told they had just sold out of the steamed crabs (that I had REALLY come for). Disappointed was an understatement, however I commenced to ordering the poplar lump crabcakes with a side of broccoli and a baked potato. The broccoli was the show. The crabcakes, however lumpy and somewhat tasty, were warm to cold. The baked potato was not tender at all (following a simple feedback comment, the server was kind enough to give me one to go- it was perfect at home). Though the service was delightful, my dishes were underwhelming. On the other hand, my cousin had the lambchops...and Just eyeing them I knew I had to have one. Let me just state...they were OUTSTANDING! Flavorful and juicy were my exact sentiments. Therefore, I decided to give this place another shot for lunch today. My hunky beau and I sat on the bar side of the restaurant arriving at 11:30 for lunch. We ordered to share the crab dip, garlic parmesan wings and the steamed mussels, all of which were DELICIOUS! We enjoyed the music and energy on the bar side, however our server, well...lets just say that the tip that was automatically added to the bill was more than sufficient for the service. The broth on the mussels still has my tastebuds lingering! Overall, the prices, portions and tastiness of the food will have me coming back. Came here for Happy Hour with my bestie. I personally did not have a great experience. Our server was polite but she didn't do a great job. We were sat at table that hadn't been reset. She took maybe 15 minutes to come over to take our order. It took us another 15 minutes to get our drinks and that was after I went to the bar to ask for them. The food unfortunately was lackluster as well. My bff is a crab fanatic. And yes it's Winter so I don't expect huge crabs, but to serve empty crabs is crazy lol. The Hazelwood Inn has a parking lot in the front and back of the building. Parking is open and plentiful. The outside of the building is a little questionable. However, the service, food portions and prices are amazing. I ordered stuffed shrimp and they were huge and flavorful. I tried a friend's steak and ribs. OMG, they were delicious. The prices for the quality of the food and the portion sizes is a steal. I am not in this area often, but would make the trip for a meal here. The homemade sangria was chefs kiss. read more

Local and popular spot. It's a little divey but very homey. They had music playing and it was a VIBE. Drinks are affordable and the food was delicious. They also automatically add 15% gratuity to all bills. Love that because it takes the stress away of calculating a tip at the end. I went during happy hour which is very long and last until 7pm WOW! I didn't drink but my 2 friends did and they reported the drinks were not only made well but a little on the strong side ( we love that ). There were several bartenders, our bartender she was an older woman & some customers complained about her "attitude" but I loved her. She was direct, got to the point, gave you everything you needed to know upfront & was NOT with the funny business. I can respect that. They also have several specials that occur, today's special was $25 6 small crabs with shrimp and corn. Ofc we ordered that! We also ordered their southwest egg rolls, crab dip and tenders. Might I say the crab dip was crabbing! We love good portions. The food coming out was an average wait time. I had a really great time, staff I wouldn't say was nice or mean just direct and doing their job BUT respectful. It was packed, a little loud but once it was time for Thursday night football, the music was turned down so you can tune in! They had so many TV's all over that it was nearly impossible to miss the action. I do wish they had close captions on because I am hard of hearing so although the music was turned off, since it was packed I couldn't really hear what was going occurring in the game. Awesome as usual. Got there a little after opening at 11am. Place was clean and welcoming. I was the first customer on the bar side. Lol. My bartender was friendly and attentive. Please forgive me for not remembering his name. I ordered from the happy house menu lamb chops and mashed potatoes and coconut shrimp. It was delicious. Potatoes was lacking a little because it had some lumps. Coconut shrimp and lamb chops were good as usual. My drinks were tequila sunrise, melon martini and amaretto sour. None of the drinks disappointed. I was in and out and back home by 1pm. Truly a nice early morning outing. Music was nice and not too turned up. This place is always my go to. read more

We love to support local restaurants, and this was recommended by a friend. It has a great location with a big parking lot. The building was huge, housing a bar-which had very loud music - a liquor store, and the restaurant. For the bar, curiosity drove me to just take a look, and that was plenty. For lunch, it was about a 5 min wait b/c the greeter was busy with other tasks. It was a sit anywhere you like, the chairs were upholstered and the restaurant has lots of real wood, and murals creating a historical atmosphere. We both ordered the crab cake special $19.99, 1 fried, and 1 broiled. This comes with 2 sides-anything priced at $3.99, or an upcharge for anything above that amount. I opted for onion rings, an upcharge of $0.50. They came out overcooked, just about burned. They were ok, not special-I probably won't order them in the future. The star of this meal was the crab cakes. They were phenomenal, cooked both ways, and the size of your fist. Very little filler and either lump with a few pieces of jumbo lump, seasoned perfectly. The basket of warm, crusty bread was appreciated. For the second side, we both ordered French fries. They use the coated ones. Portions are generous. They have weekly specials, and you can get a sirloin steak with 2 sides for under $20.00. They do offer a senior discount on Monday and Tuesday, but it can not be applied to the specials. On each table top is a note stating an 18% tip will be applied to all purchases. For some unknown reason, it was not tacked onto our bill. There is a small area for outside seating. read more

Went here with my coworker. First time coming here to eat and I live right around the corner from here. I see why the parking lot is always crowded. The waitress was so nice and informative about what to order. I ordered the stuff catfish Cajun style with grilled broccoli and French fries. That grilled broccoli was a hit. The stuffed catfish was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My coworker ordered the stuffed salmon and she said hers was superb. I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later. Absolutely an IYKYK type of place. Very direct service with a straight face. Not at all a Complaint. I would rather that than over the type checking in. The food is absolutely the star of the show including the sangria that you can buy to take home with you. Our lunch party tried all three and the strawberry peach was the winner for me but they are all good. If you don't want to sit on the cozy inside there is a to-go area where you can order food to go. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and got mad at the bread for trying to take away attention from the crab cake. The crab cake itself has minimal filler and seasoned very well. My sister and myself stopped in on a whim because we were craving crabcakes. I'm so glad we did!! The food and service was outstanding!! Our server, Diamond, greeted us with professionalism and took our order for cream of crab soup. 5 minutes later, we were both moaning after every spoonful we swallowed!!! It was seasoned to perfection with little lumps of crab!! And the warm sliced baguette bread made it even more tasty!! When we were walking in from the parking lot there was just a ton of music and commotion coming from one side of the building. Our waitress for the party, seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. It took her a very long time to get our drink orders and then we had to wait for her to show up again to order food. But when the food finally arrived, it was good. Always a nice time coming to the Hazelwood. This time was for a Christmas fellowship with the choir from my church. Wasn't able to book the private room but we were able to be seated in an area that was comfortable enough for all of us. I believe there was only one waitress for the 15 of us but she didn't seemed frazzled or out of sorts. Things went pretty smoothly and when the food came out, the manager came out to help pass out the food. I started with the cream of crab soup. Besides a few pieces of shell (big pieces), it was pretty good. Had a good amount of crab in the soup. Entree was a large shrimp Caesar salad. Had to take the tail shell off the shrimp. I don't understand why restaurants to that. Why take the whole shell off and just stop at the tail. The shrimp was a good sized portion to go with the large salad. A few of the people I was with didn't really enjoy their food. Crab cakes were too dry and the chicken scampi was a little tasteless. This lil gem is truly hidden. It's tucked up in some residential neighborhood on a side if town I didn't even know existed. If u don't have directions, u ain't finding it. Period!! Upon entering, you could instantly tell this was a 'favorite local spot' for the customers. It's very inviting & homey feeling. Come on in and let ur hair down and enjoy urself. That's the feeling I got. The music, however, can be turned down a bit. The music made it feel more like a concert venue than an eatery but it's all good. I was a virgin experiencing Hazelwood for the 1st time so let's go... one with the meal. 1) Upon recommendation, I tried a concoction I've never had before - 1/2 & 1/2 Maryland crab soup & Maryland cream of crab soup. I don't know if it was the combination of Theo or if they simply are that good on their own... but this soup was AMAZING!! Definitely the star of the meal!! It had the perfect mix of briny saltiness, meat, vegetables and creaminess. It was a party in my mouth. I should have ordered a bowl and stuck with that bc the rest of the meal did NOT compare. SCORE!! 2) Southwest eggrolls - my 'go to' appetizer are southwest egg rolls. I love them. They were advertised as: 'Stuffed with Chicken, Bell Peppers, Black Beans, Spinach, and Corn, then deep-fried to a golden brown. Served with a tangy Ranch dip'. While true, they were also dry as rawhide. These were nothing more than reheated frozen egg rolls that I could have gotten at any bulk grocer (BJs, COSTCO, Sams). It's evident that upon deep frying, they sat under a heat lamp and dried out completely. They lacked any form Of flavor at all. I never have to have those again. 3) Fish and Chips with Fries - When I don't know how a place prepares their food, I go with something safe. Normally, that a Fish & Chips meal. It's a pretty straight forward dish. As long as the breading is decent and the fish isn't over cooked, it's ALWAYS a hit. Well, this meal came with fish sticks / chunks that had zero flavoring in the breading. No salt, pepper, garlic salt or old bay. The sticks, while chunky were fried too long or placed under the heat lamp too long. They were incredibly bland in flavor and dry, as well. CRIME!!! As sides, I got a) French fries which were decent enough and b) grilled broccoli which surprisingly wasn't oiled or seasoned. Just dry charred stalks of broccoli. Another fail bc grilled broccoli is truly one of the best tasking grilled veggies. Highly disappointed. CRIME!!! 4) A friend ordered Shrimp Stuffed With Crabmeat (2) which were broiled and served with Imperial Sauce. This dish was AMAZINGLY GOOD! The crab had no filler and the sauce made the already juicy broiled crab even more flavorful. The shrimp had decent flavor as well but the crab was definitely the star of this dish. SCORE!!! 5) Another friend ordered the Shrimp Salad Sandwich. It's served with your choice of Served on White, Wheat, Rye, or Kaiser RollServed with French Fries, or Broccoli, Pickles, and Cole Slaw . The shrimp salad got 5-stars across the board. Juice shrimp, plentiful and had great flavor. The bread however was cut very thick and was super dry. It actually crumbled. My friend just ended up eating the sandwich 'open faced'. The shrimp was delicious. 6) For drinks we decided on Tequila sunrises & White Sangria. They were... ok. They tasted like happy hour drinks [not much liquor, (rail, I'm sure) and pretty watered down]. Final assessment: I'd go back for the ambiance and I'd definitely give this place another shot. Wonderful dinner for my birthday. Tasty crab dip with warm Italian bread for dipping. I ordered the blackened salmon tacos with sweet potato fries, delicious with large portions. My husband got eggplant parmigiana with fettuccine and crab soup. My Manhattan cocktail was delicious too. When we ready to get our check we thanked them for a nice birthday meal, as it is my birthday today. Sherry our waitress came back with a lovely cheesecake with happy birthday written on it, a candle and sang happy birthday to me! About 25 of us gathered on a Tuesday evening in their dining room to celebrate 2 birthdays in our family. There was plenty of seating in the dining room area since most patrons go to the bar part for food and drinks. We were all seated right away in a separate out-cove area, which was pretty great. Holly was our server and single handedly took care of each of us very well. Holly brought us all water, along with bread and butter while we all got situated and reviewed the menu. Holly was amazing. It took some time due to the amount of people in our party, but she got everyone's appetizer and entree order. The appetizers came out pretty quickly, but the entree took a really long time, but understandable since there were so many of us. They had great specials for drinks and entrees. Many had the crab cake special for $21.99 and enjoyed their meal. I can attest that the stuffed mushrooms were good. The cream of crab soup was very creamy, but not much crab. The entrees came out and the portions were extremely plentiful. The crab cakes were very good, I think it may be one of their biggest sellers. I had the fried trio and substituted fried oysters for crab cakes, which I wish I would've stuck to the menu. It was ok. My daughter ordered the fried oyster sandwich and had to send it back. A few people had the stuffed (w/ crab imperial) fish and said it was good. The sides were mediocre. I then ordered dessert to go, both the rice pudding and bread pudding. Once I took them home and heated them up, they were delicious. I definitely didn't have the best food experience at Hazelwood Inn, but others did. I've been a Hazelwood fan for some years now, but this last visit was definitely not on par with previous ones. I'll chalk it up to new waitstaff and all the effects of post COVID staffing. My dining friend and I both ordered fish dinners that simply weren't good - one being slightly undercooked and the other one equally underwhelming. What got me about the whole experience was that after the lackluster service and meals, gratuity was already added to the bill. I don't like that at all. read more

The place is super loud which is a fun way to get the party started, but on a Tuesday afternoon while grabbing lunch can get a bit annoying.
