My son and I were in town and looking for a breakfast place. Based on the reviews and stars we thought this would be a good non chain option. We were wrong. Overly cramps quarters, and rushed service to start. The food was mediocre and overly greasy. Went to this place based on the large number of great reviews. Could be the cook on duty at the time was incompetent but the omelette was the absolute worse. The egg was burnt on the outside and inside to the point that it was charred. I thought perhaps mine was an isolated case but I saw another order with the same treatment. Loved the experience at Joe's today. Felt like I had stepped out of Utah and into the South. Friendly atmosphere with both Joe and Stacy taking care of us. Wife had the Joe omelet, I had the ribeye steak and eggs with grits. My steak was seasoned well grilled on the cook top to medium. It had a nice crust and was sufficiently tender and juicy. Joe has a lot of charisma and is very respectful of his staff and customers. He makes sure you love what you ordered and makes sure your day is going great. When you walk in, the restaurant is super small, but don't let that scare you away. If you look closer, you can see the love from both Joe and the customers the pictures that cover the walls, documenting years of happiness that is found in this place. The food is awesome! The food is delicious and satisfying and the portions are pretty big. I wish this place was open earlier/later so then I wouldn't have to worry about making it during the limited hours. It's not a complaint about the sandwiches; the club is full of ham, turkey, bacon, and a couple of kinds of cheese. The tuna melt is mustardy, tangy and on always perfectly grilled bread. It's about how you're always trying to kill us. You're overt friendliness is just a facade over your desire to do us harm, and I know this because that omelet isn't a breakfast--it's a family buffet on a plate. No man can actually fit that sandwich in his mouth. Pancakes aren't supposed to be confused with comforters. I went way out of my way to go to this place. Took a friend from out of town to a highly rated breakfast joint, in order to support the good little spot around town. My mistake. A mistake which I will NOT be repeating with Joe. Place is tiny, and honestly hard to spot (signage is poor at best). Very limited seating, and ordering isn't straightforward for a new customer. We ordered, sat down at THE empty table. Got our food promptly enough. Food was ok. Not the amazing experience these Yelpers lead me to believe. We finished, kept talking maybe a total of 5-10 minutes and the owner came by, didn't ask, but just told us in no uncertain terms that we had to leave because he needs the table. I was blown away. I have not ever ever ever been asked to leave because the establishment "needed" the table. Let alone only minutes after finishing the meal. Not only that, but we could very clearly hear Joe complaining about us. As if it were utterly obscene that two people would remain at a table for a few minutes. I'm not only leaving the worst review possible, but I will be telling everyone to avoid this place like the plague. Ive worked in restaurants before and retail. I know a thing or two about what good customer service is, and I experienced none of it. read more

I really, really wanted to like this place. Usually small places like this are one of my favorites however we had a few unpleasant experiences here. It starts with the wait. We arrived around 10:15 and were told there would be a 25 minute wait. Okay, we can do that. It's now 10:52, and we're still waiting to be called. My husband goes in to ask about the wait and we're told there's still a group ahead of us. So we decide to go in and order to go because we are running out of time. We go in and we're told someone is just leaving their table and we can sit there if we'd like, we say cool! However, that lady didn't know about the people ahead of us so we're then told again to wait and if they can't get ahold of the people ahead of us, we can take the table. In the meantime, we put in our order. We wait and we are seated but my husband realizes we no longer have time to sit and dine. Mind you, there are only four tables available for seating and at that point it had been about 50 minutes since we arrived. So we let them know we'll just take it to go. My husband's patience has run thin with the entire situation so he waits in the car with our toddler. Our order comes out and I pay and go. I'm starving since it's now 11:10 and I haven't eaten so I start eating in the car only to find that the strawberries and cream I ordered for my French toast combo isn't included, which they do charge extra for. I got French toast with bacon and eggs. The eggs were perfect. One bacon was great and one was a little burned. The French toast was okay, nothing special in my book. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and a small grits. He did say they were very tasty. I ended up calling them to see if I can get a refund for the extra I paid for the strawberries and they aren't able to do partial refunds. I normally wouldn't have even asked for the refund but because we had a difficult time, I thought I would get my money back for something I didn't receive but paid for. They did offer a gift card but with the experience we had, my husband does not want to go back so getting a gift card would be moot. All in all, it's much better to get a to go order from here, unless you have no plans after at all. We came here because the reviews were so great and had a poor experience. We had a group of 8 people behind us and a group of 3 people behind us. The group of 8 told the host their size so she started to take their order because they were so large, so my group of 2 then had to wait for 8 orders even though we entered the restaurant before them... Apparently, the group of 3 got here before us but accidentally sat down instead of getting in line? So when I stepped up to order the host told me they came before me even though I was standing in front of them in line... I think if it had been just the group of 3 it wouldn't have been a big deal but when you physically watch the host put 11 people before your group of 2 people it's confusing and frustrating. the point is that they are unorganized and don't have a system for ordering. Hey sistah, soul sistah.... Stumbled upon this place while searching Yelp for a breakfast place. My sister had her doubts, "why don't we just got to IHOP or some place we already know," -boring. There was doubt of where I was taking them (thank you GPS) but I got us there (its not the easiest to find and it doesn't really look like it would be a eatery...but it works). Well, once again, I was the heroine to the resuce (bow down sister) and we were able to have the breakfast of champs. I ordered the french toast (yum), my doubtful sister got an omlet (can I say HUGE), and my mother ordered the biscuits and gravy (HUGE and delicous!). We walked about happy and VERY full. I don't live in the area, but would return in a heart beat. My family has since returned and brought more people to come, so great job Joe. We think you're wonderful. Did not have a good experience here- at all!! I wish I could give this place zero stars! The food is average- same run of the mill breakfast food (Dennys, IHOP, etc.). You can tell it's trying to be a trendy place, but it's just.. dirty, cramped, and the customer service was terrible. I had never been to Joes before, and when I walked in it was unclear whether you were supposed to seat yourself, order at the cashier, etc. I asked a nearby waitress (who was not friendly and gave me attitude) and she just kind of grunted about getting a menu by the cashier and seating myself (like I should know). There was a leak coming from the ceiling by the restrooms and it appeared that nobody was trying to clean it up, just a haphazard bucket with water all around it. I was freezing the entire time we were eating because customers were coming in both at the back entrance and front entrance. After we finished our food, it wasn't 10 minutes before Joe himself came over to our table, interrupted our conversation, and pounded on the table with his knuckles that he needed the table for other patrons. It was terribly rude. They have limited seating in the restaurant, but that's not my problem. It would have been one thing if he had come over to inquire about our dining experience, how the food was, and then asked us politely if we wouldn't mind paying as he needed to seat other customers, but he didn't. So rude. I definitely do not recommend this place. The whole dining experience was terrible and the food is nothing to brag about. read more

I came down here for lunch and I must say: it was the best meal I've ever had in Orem. Of course, it's the only meal I've had in Orem as of this writing. That being said, I really did love this place. My dining companions had been here before and told me a bit about the greatness that is Joe, and he lived up to the hype. He's friendly, hilarious, and enthusiastic about his food, too. He obviously really likes his customers, too, because he has photos of himself with them hanging on the walls of the place. (He got a photo with us, too, so soon we will be immortalized on the wall!) I ordered the Big Burger, which was quite tasty (though not quite up to the standards of greatness set by Smashburger, Five Guys, Apollo, etc.) I also had some of my boyfriend's tuna melt, which is probably what I should have ordered. It was definitely full of win. Others at our table quite enjoyed the club sandwich, grilled cheese, and Joe's Omelet, which was large enough to feed 2-3 normal humans. Holy Weapons of Mass Destruction! This cafe is off the hook! I had Joe's Ultimate Burger, and my wife the Bacon Cheeseburger. It was incredible; thick juicy bacon, fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese and jalapeño peppers. It was so juicy and grilled just perfectly. I am agreeing with probably every one who sets foot in that dive. Joe is reviving the lost art of the real greasy spoon short order cafe with a larger than life Owner. This is the best in the valley since Joe's Spic and Span closed in the 80's. Not the same joe :-) There has not been a real greasy spoon short order diner in the area since Joe's Spic & Span Lunch went out of business many years ago. It's great to see Joe's Cafe fill that role. It doesn't have that patina of age that Joe's Spic & Span had after 45 years, but it didn't have Joe (OK, his real name isn't Joe, but it is at the restaurant.) It's got Southern charm and style. The grits are better than anything else I've found, but they'd just be OK in the South. Joe's makes no presence as to where many of it's ingredients come from. The Kirkland label is easy to read on many items stored on shelves behind the counter. So, while the 1/2 burger is still a factory frozen commercial patty, it's a really good one. Joe does nothing in moderation. The BLT has something like five big thick slices of bacon. The burger is huge and additions are over the top. The patty melt really needs to be on rye bread, but it's very good. There is no fryer, so it's chips with lunch. Joe himself is infectious. He's a bigger than life character that really cares about creating a positive experience. The only thing keeping him from a 5 star review is that a five star diner makes it's own patties and has a fryer. read more

I came here with a group of 14, I was definitely impressed. All their employees are so prompt and sweet. The food was amazing and piled high. I got the westerner omelet, it was the best omelet I've had in a long time. It's not perfect and pretty, its home cooked food. Which I personally love. Joe is great, and there are pictures of him and all his customers on the walls. The business is on the small side, our group probably took up about half the place. My family had breakfast here the other day, we were really looking forward to a delicious breakfast, it was just okay. All the reviews seem to really love this place and I am not sure if it has more to do with the owner or the food. You order your food at the registar and then you get your utensils at a table filled with condiments. There is no maple syrup for pancakes or really good jam for toast. Our food in general was just okay, an omelet had processed cheese (sandwich style slices) and the eggs were really greasy. I'm not sure we'd return. read more
