I've been coming to Shirley's since 1998. I used to sell plasma in college and would come and buy her Monkey Bread at the old location as soon as I got my money! I still frequent Shirley's at least monthly for her dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing (it's the only way to go). I have a dozen of her dinner rolls in my freezer at all times. I found this bakery on Yelp and we are so glad we did! I came due to the sweet rolls that were in reviews and I couldn't help but show my wife and told her we should check this place out.  We got the 4 pack which was 8.99. The employee also gave us cookie since we told her it was our 1st time there. The service was very good. We were greeted right away and answered all our questions about the pastries in the case. We were at a doctor's appointment in Provo so let's see what I have on my Provo list to try! I love a good bakery- at least to check out for future needs. Hubby found this in Yelp. He loves a good sweet roll/ cinnamon roll. It was a Friday afternoon. The place was empty. Guess we missed the lunch crowd? I walked in and saw all the sweet rolls in 4 flavors and different types of bread rolls. Looks like they sold some loaves of bread too and some cookies and desserts. They also had soups and sandwiches. I was so happy to find this place! We were even given a free cookie since we told her it was our 1st time! We told home a 4 pack of sweet rolls. We picked the one with 2 blueberry and 2 raspberry. It was so yummy! Heated us a lil bit in the microwave- they were very good! I Wish it was closer to home! Couldn't even order anything. We went in there and nobody was around. Waiting for them to stop messing with the door. Seemed like we waited a really long time while they were just chatting about the door. When they finally noticed us they begrudgingly came over and asked if we wanted to order anything (annoyed and irritated that we were even in there). I have to admit I was hungry! So I neglected to get a picture of our food. We both got sandwiches - a chicken salad for me (yes for breakfast) and a sausage, egg, and cheddar for my husband. We both liked them. The chicken salad had a bit too much mayo for me, but I'm not a huge mayo fan. The service was quick and we were there on a Saturday morning. There were people picking up to-go orders and even a catering order. There was only one other dine-in table full of people. But don't mistake that for not busy! Shirley's is by a hotels but the look inside is very homey. There's a cute stone, wood burning fireplace, racks full of rolls and pastries, and stand alone tables and some booths. The restaurant is clean and so are the bathrooms. We were in town for the annual track invitational at BYU and we know we'll be back next year too. read more

Do not go here and get their sweet rolls because you will become addicted and always have to come back. The raspberry and cinnamon are the absolute best. I have had a few of their sandwiches and haven't been terribly impressed, but that's probably because their sweet rolls are beyond amazing... it would be hard to live up to that standard on the savory side. Pick up a 12 pack of cinnamon and a 12 pack of raspberry and prepare to gain some weight. It will be worth it. The 12 packs taste better than the 4 packs for some reason. Idk. The only words I have for you are: Raspberry Rolls. After hearing all the blubber about how amazing Shirley's sweet rolls are, I finally got my hands on some. They sell a "variety" pack that comes with raspberry, blueberry, orange, and cinnamon rolls. My favs in this order were: raspberry, cinnamon, blueberry, orange. It's unfortunate that you can't order a fresh warm roll though; they always give them to you in a bag hours after they're baked so you have to go home and warm them up. Sometimes they can come out dry that way, which I know that is not Shirley's intention. I would love to meet this Shirley someday and hear what her vision was for her bakery. Then perhaps I could understand why they do things the way they do here. read more

Breakfast Review I hate to do this but I have to give Shirley's a bad breakfast review. I got there after 7:30 and they didn't have even half of their pastries/cookies in the case yet. I picked a sweet roll and peanut butter bar, and also ordered a bacon/egg sandwich. The sandwich was big until I looked between the bread (croissant) and found a single egg, 2 pieces of bacon, and an average slice of cheese. It wasn't nearly enough to fill the croissant and didn't give much flavor. I've never been to France or Europe but I've had some good American made croissants before, and this one would not pass as even a decent American knockoff. I ate the sweets later and found problems with both. The peanut butter bar wasn't to my liking though I can imagine some would like it. The roll was supposed to be raspberry but they gave me blueberry instead to my surprise. It was good but very sugary. As for the service, no one smiled or asked how I was doing when I came in. They didn't say thank you and have a good day when they gave my food. They weren't rude, but they also couldn't be called pleasant. Maybe I just don't fit their target demographic or it was too early in the morning. I am finding lack of smiles and cheerfulness to be a problem at most stores lately so maybe all these younger adults and youth just don't know how valuable a smile can be. I custom ordered some vanilla raisin cinnamon rolls and upon getting home I realized that they were not what I ordered. I called right away and the worker said that the manager would call me back and they never did. I called a second wand left another message and again no call back. At first glance, it's a Kneader's look-alike. A lot of the feel and even menu selections felt very Kneaders, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We ordered: TBA on white hoagie (it usually comes on focaccia ??? Bread - not my fav) Sausage soup BLT on Italian (that is a square bread, btw) Everything tasted really fresh considering this was the end of the day (it closed no more than 40 minutes later) and everything was satisfactory, though not memorable. I wouldn't necessarily make it here when I'm in town again, but I'll remember this place if I want a LIGHT bite to eat. Note: we bought some sweet rolls (variety pack, $13.99) for the family we're staying with and those were INCREDIBLY soft and delicious. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND those with a sweet tooth for sweet rolls to get one of these, or take a whole pack with you to share with yours at home! This place also closes at 7 PM. Yelp says 9 but it's 7. I called to make sure, which I highly recommend you do as well, just in case they change it AGAIN. read more

My co workers and I so desperately want to love this establishment but they make it very difficult. Some days the sandwiches are massive and delicious! Other times they are tiny with barely any meat. Sometimes you get a roll with you order and sometimes you don't. Today I decided I was going to write a review. I went through the DT and ordered lunch for me and a co worker. They asked me to pull around the building and wait for my order. I waited for about 15 minutes but only received half a sandwich and a cup of soup...not even the panini I ordered. So I went inside and waited ANOTHER 20 min for ONE PANINI. Stayed at the crappy hotel next door and walked over for lunch! My son had the kids ham roll sandwich and I had the breakfast egg and sausage croissant. The size of the croissant was huge.. way larger than the large size sausage and egg.. and the ratio was off-putting.. but only until I tasted it and I thanked my lucky stars there was "extra" because it was so dang good. Lots of good-smelling bread and sweet rolls. We went for lunch so this is NOT evaluating them as a bakery but as a restaurant. Two of our party got the cobb salad. One had a "shirley salad" which was strawberries and greens. One had a turkey bacon avocado sandwich. I got minestrone with my cobb. The minestrone was ok but nothing amazing. Would have beeb better with some parmesan. I went for a diet dr pepper but the machine was wonky and poured pure syrup (no carbonation). So i switched to another choice. The cobb was awful. No blue cheese. Flabby grilled chicken. Rusty lettuce. Stale croutons out of a box. I thought "No blue cheese crumbles so maybe the dressing is blue cheese." Nope - the dressing was ranch. Today I stopped in to get a dozen rolls and a couple pastries and again they were chatting at the register so I stood there and asked about the rolls but was told they only offer rolls that have been preordered then went back to chatting with each other again so I left without rolls or the pastries. read more

Years later, I totally forgot about this review. Now I've been back, twice, for the cinnamon rolls, and I have to say "thank you," sincerely, for making them like my mom used to. I don't care what else you do, Shirley, as long as you keep providing the world with your cinnamon rolls. The sweet rolls here are amazing! They offer a wide variety of both sweet and savory foods for great prices. They are also able to sell these in large quantities so it's always a great option for office parties, potlucks, etc. I have yet to try more of their menu items but will be back soon because it's just so good! read more
