I hosted a med school graduation luncheon at Slackwater Pizzeria, and I can honestly say it was one of the most seamless and special events I've ever planned. From the very beginning, their team went above and beyond. I dropped off custom signage and small floral arrangements the day before, and they thoughtfully kept the flowers chilled overnight. When we arrived, they had opened beautifully and looked absolutely stunning. That level of care meant everything. A huge thank you to manager Dave, event coordinator Aubrey, Brian Power and the entire service team. They handled our group of 16 effortlessly, anticipating needs before we even had to ask. The timing, organization, and attention to detail were flawless. Every guest felt taken care of. The food was incredible, the service was exceptional, and the entire experience felt thoughtfully curated from start to finish. This weekend was spectacular in LARGE part because of them. I heard great things about slackwater and I couldn't wait to try it for myself!! However my experience didn't quite live up to my expectations. If I could give a more detailed breakfast for my rating, I would say service 5/5, ambiance 5/5, but food 3/5. For starters, our waiter was so nice and accommodating. We were torn between the char tipped roasted pork chili verde nachos and the chips and guac, so we asked if we could get the nachos with a side of guac and he made it happen! The presentation looked great and the distribution of toppings was pretty even, but the flavor fell flat for me. I could definitely taste the chili verde, but even when you got a super loaded up chip the flavor was lacking. I found myself taking a couple of bites and not reaching back for more. The guacamole also tasted like store bought. The three pizzas we ordered were the Gyro Trip, the Cuban Crisis, and the Southern Comfort Redo. Overall, each pizza was okay. I was so excited for the fun flavors, but each pizza was underwhelming. The Southern Comfort was supposed to be a bbq chicken, but there were barely any pieces of chicken and the bbq sauce was bland. I also found the scoop of red cabbage falling very short of being called a coleslaw. It was more like straight up shredded cabbage. The Cuban Crisis was overpowered by the pickles and the ham didn't come through. Lastly, the Gyro had a good amount of lamb and the sauce had a good flavor, but the lamb didn't taste like anything. I will say the flavor profile of the Gyro had more layers as the feta and sauce paired well together. Overall, I liked the idea of each pizza, but I'm just not sure they were executed as well as they could have been. The dough and crust were so incredibly soft and pillow-like which made it all the more disappointing. I'm not sure if we made a mistake going for all novel flavors and skipping out of classic flavors, but I'm pretty sad about the flavors of pizza we ended up choosing. If I return, I think I'll stick with more classic flavors. read more

I stopped by Slackwater in Provo after work with my husband and had a fantastic experience. I got the Green Goddess pizza, which was honestly amazing. It's definitely a bit showy (they top each slice with avocado and a little pile of greens in the middle) but the flavor was fantastic. Huge shout-out to our server Shay for the recommendation and for being super helpful since it was our first time there. (I also tried one of their holiday cocktails, and it had really good flavor.) The venue overall can be quite loud as it's a kind of sports bar/ restaurant hybrid, but it was still enjoyable. The price was pretty on par with other non-fast-food pizza places in Utah. We paid about $53 for two pizzas, a cocktail, and another drink, roughly $25 a person. In short, I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back! read more

The food is most important, and it was great. I'd definitely come back. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, mulligatawny soup, Thai coco salad, from the earth pizza, and Sparta pizza. The Sparta pizza was the least enjoyable, but it was ordered without sausage due to an allergy so that could have been a factor. There was a long wait, but they didn't mention we could've ordered takeout, and I didn't think of it until we seated nearly an hour later. There were also outdoor tables not being used due to a chilly spring day, and we easily could've sat there. The service wasn't great. They were really busy, but the waitress forgot our request for no ice in our drinks and rarely checked on us. I also think it's odd to have the restaurant set up with wait stuff because as a pizza and sandwich place, I expected to go up to a counter, place my order, and take a number. I don't usually expect to tip for a place with this price point. It was also difficult to identify wait staff because there seemed to be no dress code to speak of. All our food came out at the same time, regardless of appetizer, soup, salad, or pizza. The ambience was also a mixed bag. I like what they've done decoration wise, but it was painfully dark, and the lights kept turning up and down for some reason as it got darker outside. The music was loud enough that it was difficult to talk. Overall, it felt more like a club atmosphere, and there are bars with brighter lighting. Every single person, whether behind the bar or out on the floor, will give you fantastic service from start to finish. We've been regulars for a while, and we have never once had a bad experience here. Everyone is friendly, professional, and attentive. Amy, Kaia, Kris, Makray, Braden - absolute class acts, all of them. Dave is a killer manager. Drinks: The selection is WILD. We've been able to try so many new beers and have found a few new favorites along the way. The menu constantly rotates too, so it never gets stale and there's always something new to discover. We've really enjoyed the tap takeovers, too. Food: Great food! Their gluten free pizzas are delicious, and I'm super partial to the dry rub wings. There is a monthly seasonal menu as well, which always features a few out of the ordinary things. There's never been a miss - the chefs here really care. Their nachos are really good and the portion is utterly MASSIVE. Vibes: This is the type of place you can both come for a nice meal AND come to sit for hours to just chill. As a pair of tried-and-true barflies, we usually inhabit the bar; it is such a nice way to kill a Saturday afternoon, trying new beers, having good food and watching a football game. Terrible. I called ahead to see if they could put on a soccer game. They said yes and had our soccer coach wait ten minutes at the place before saying no. And this was with our entire team en route to their near empty restaurant. They had the ability to put on the game on one of their three screens but chose not to. They also disrespected our coach, which was not appreciated. As a result of this terrible service we had to change plans for our entire team and parents while they were driving and this restaurant lost out on hundreds of dollars in orders. I confirmed with my coach that there was only two guys watching the game when he was there and each of those guys could have had their own tv screen. They could have let our coach watch soccer on the third TV. But maybe because he speaks with an accent or for some other reason they didn't want to treat him the same. read more

Came thru here last summer and had an excellent pizza and local beer. I was passing thru today and decided to grab some lunch to go. There was slight confusion to start as I asked the cashier if I could grab a beer ( they have an amazing beer selection), at the bar while I waited for my to go order. She said sure. Apparently the Hostess didn't realize the rules ( I think there are state rules that you have to order food with beer at restaurants ). Anyway, no biggie. She said I could eat my to go food at the bar. The beer was fantastic. A double IPA from Red Rocks brewery. Local like I wanted. The Sammie was meh. This is the description on the menu of the Sammie ... Toasted Stone Ground Bakery ciabatta dressed with house black bean hummus, avocado spread, Asian pickled cucumbers, tomatoes, shallots, red peppers, mixed greens, and a balsamic reduction. The bread was more like a standard sourdough. There was a great amount of avocado and black bean hummus. However there were hardly any Asian pickles, a scant amount of red pepper, no shallots and very little greens. Unfortunately I didn't catch that bc I was intent on taking it Togo ( traveling schedule) so I just nibbled on the side of chips it came with ( homemade kettle and fantastic) and finished my beer.
