I nearly bypassed this restaurant after reading a handful of one-star reviews suggesting slow service and underwhelming, "microwaved" food. I'm pleased to report that my experience could not have been further from that narrative. I ordered the blackened salmon salad and it was exceptional. Perfectly executed, deeply flavorful, and balanced in a way that makes you pause between bites just to appreciate it. At one point I genuinely had to check myself because the sensory enjoyment was so elevated I could have sworn I was on MDMA. I was not. The dish was simply that transporting. The crème brûlée was of Michelin caliber. Silky custard, flawlessly torched sugar crust, ideal sweetness. It stands just behind my own homemade version, which is the highest compliment I can give. The bruschetta was equally refined, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. Service was polished and attentive throughout. Our waitress, short dark hair, excellent presence, anticipated needs without hovering. The only mystery was her missing name tag. Ambience deserves its own praise. The acoustics were perfect, allowing conversation without strain, while a Frank Sinatra style playlist set an elegant, nostalgic tone. For a moment I thought I was listening to one of my own Spotify playlists. Impeccable curation. At one point I noticed lemon trees growing inside the building and briefly questioned whether they were real. They were decorative, but that moment captures how immersive the dining experience felt. We took family members and a friend to dinner here last night. Our daughter-in-law requested La Jolla because of her past experiences with this restaurant. Again, the service was stellar and not hovering, cheerful but not too familiar, and attentive but in the background. The atmosphere here is quiet and comfortable. We can actually converse with each other over dinner. Dinner menu options are consistently wonderful and skillfully cooked and presented. While my wife likes to stick with her usual sure fire selection, she's determined next time to be more adventurous. We also like the drink choices including mocktails. Desserts are a problem, since every item is wonderful, although they are probably not made in house. [I've always wondered whose home a homemade was the locus of preparation.] La Jolla will continue to be our star restaurant selection for entertaining special guests from out of town and special occasions in town. Our extended family came here for a late lunch immediately after our son's wedding and had a fantastic experience! The setting was elegant but relaxed, everyone loved their meals, and our server Sariah was phenomenal- so attentive and welcoming! We couldn't have asked for a better wedding lunch. Sariah and her team handled our party of 14 flawlessly. Between us all I think we must've sampled almost everything on the menu haha! We tried the braised lamb shank, salmon filet, French onion soup, lemon roasted chicken, chicken tortellini, manhattan steak, and even the Ruben sandwich. It was all fantastic and cooked to perfection. Service starts with drinks, buttery dinner rolls (delicious!), and an unexpected delectable amuse-bouche of dried fig and honey on top of a slice of Parmesan - it was lovely and a very elegant start to the meal. For drinks, Sariah recommended the lemonades as they are the house specialty and made fresh - so hubby and I tried a raspberry lemonade and a blackberry lemonade. They were refreshing, delicious, and not too sweet. Not too long after, all the food came out. The meal finishes with a complimentary plate of hard lemon candies which was a nice touch. The decor in the main dining room is lemon tree themed and I absolutely loved it! It's cozy and fun - like dining in a lemon orchard. But unfortunately they sat us in a back room that felt a lot more flat - almost like a conference room. It would've really made our whole experience that much better if it had also been decorated in their lemon tree theme - and that really is my only complaint. But the room was elegant enough and very private for our little family party. So it isn't really much of a complaint and certainly not enough of an issue to detract from the overall experience - just something to be aware of. We had a lot of "preferences" we had to consider in finding a restaurant for my son's big day, so after an extensive search, we settled on La Jolla Groves for its elegant atmosphere and accommodating menu and we were more than satisfied. I easily made reservations online but also spoke to them on the phone to confirm and ask some questions. They do require a credit card to secure the reservation for a large party (we had 14 guests) but there's no charge for making the reservation - only if you cancel on very short notice. They're located in a large shopping area with plenty of parking. They're kind of behind the stores but there are maps on site to help you find the entrance. Such an adorable restaurant with incredible ambiance, it was definitely unlike anything I've been to before. Dining underneath the lemon trees felt so tranquil and serene, making the whole experience extra special. Our server was wonderfully attentive, and everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh. We started with a mocktail that was refreshing, then enjoyed a crisp salad, perfectly cooked halibut, and ended the evening with a rich and delicious cheesecake. Each course was excellent. Was quite disappointed when we took my mom here for Mother's Day and they had a buffet. The food was cold, quite dry and the two of my desserts had hair in them. Unfortunately none of us left satisfied. We also were unaware that it was $80 a person and they didn't advise as such. We had to pay $25 per person upfront to pay for our reservation. I looked at their website, no where did it say it was $80 per person. When we got the bill, we were all sick at how expensive this restaurant is with how mediocre the food is. Let alone having hair in the food. Our waiter came to our table maybe 3 times. I'd rather spend $750 at a 5 star restaurant, this was an incredibly expensive and disappointing meal. read more

I and my my wife ate here for free one evening as part of a financial services presentation. This restaurant has a fun classy lemon-grove atmosphere with plenty of fake lemon trees between tables in the main dining area, although we both ate in a private dining room. My wife and I both enjoyed some tomato basil soup, which was so tasty that I nearly licked the bowl clean. For our main courses, I ordered a salmon filet, which was marvelous, and my wife ordered some butternut squash risotto, which was very tasty. And we both ate some cheesecake for dessert, which was so delicious. This food was delivered without too much delay, and the servers seemed both nice and comptent. We started off with the bruschetta. The presentation was appealing, and the taste did not disappoint as well. The combination of all the ingredients together was perfect, giving a complex and rich taste with each bite. We also got the mushroom bisque and butternut squash soup. The mushroom bisque was average, but the butternut squash was HEAVENLY. The taste was simply amazing, and the candied pumpkin seeds gave it a nice added texture to the soup, too. I would definitely go back for that. I was slightly disappointed by the bread rolls, probably because I had too high of an expectation, as most nice restaurants I've been had really nice bread and spread. Since a lot of their dishes incorporate lemon, I would think they should have lemon cream cheese spread or something like that. All they had was regular rolls and butter, and the top of the rolls were too greasy. However, I was pleasantly surprised when our server gave us a gift from the chef: a dried fig on cheese with honey. I enjoyed this palate cleanser! We ordered the Salmon Filet and the Shrimp Scampi. The salmon was moist and flavorful. Apparently, the salmon were freshly caught and delivered yesterday. I was impressed by their Shrimp Scampi; definitely exceeded my expectations. I loved the sauce, the texture of the linguine, and the generous portion. Delicious! Overall, I loved how everything here was lemon-themed! From the food to the interior design with lemon trees, even their bathroom smelled nice and had lemon-scented hand soap! AND I have to mention that I was very satisfied with the lemon drop candy at the end. It was so good and unlike the usual lemon candies that would scratch your mouth. It gave my entire experience a nice finishing touch. While the food was absolutely delightful, the service was extremely slow. The mushroom bisque took 40 minutes before it was brought out, which was a bit ridiculous considering it's just soup. Not sure if they forgot about the order or what. And then for the entrées, they really took a LONG time before they were done (more than an hour since we placed the order...). We were starving and getting quite impatient. Dinner at La Jolla Groves was an enjoyable experience. It's a big, attractive, energetic place. The greeters, runners, and servers were all friendly and clearly focused on the customers' needs. The menu offered a good variety with no particular focus - call it American I guess. There's a short, high quality wine list with extremely attractive prices. We had martinis (pretty decent) and a glass of Chardonnay (good, cheap). For dinner we each had the butternut squash soup with the flatbread appetizer and the bruschetta appetizer. It's 10:19pm, we are still waiting on one entrée, our reservations were for 7:30 and we sat at 7:30. We waited, not exaggerating, 1 hour to get our first round of drinks. It was 2 hours before our order was taken. The risotto was extremely undercooked. This was hands down, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. And the manager has not even made an effort to come talk to us. They had 2 banquets going on and we were a large party but that is just terrible restaurant management. I have nothing but good things to say about La Jolla Groves. We visited after a Christmas outing, and I was stunned by the beautiful lemon grove ceiling hung with ornaments and lights. The interior goes hard on the lemon grove theme, in a good way. It reminded me of the Isle of Capri. All the staff was oddly charismatic. I'm not one to strike up conversations with strangers, but we ended up talking at length to nearly every member of the waitstaff we came into contact with. Our waitet was especially nice and even brought us ice cream on the house for our daughter. The food was just delicious! The lemon chicken was amazing and a perfect-sized portion to leave room for dessert (chocolate lava cake). The staff also brought us lemon drops with the check! Went with some coworkers for lunch on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty empty in the dining area except there was a large group in their private room. Our first server was kind and attentive but spent a good amount of time with the large group and another server helped us who didn't have the same rapport with us. Rolls were brought to the table with little ball of butter-very delish. We ordered bruschetta and it was light & delightful, often enough the toast is too hard to bite into but this was perfect. I had a Kiwi Lemonade, the Maple Salad and the Salmon Filet. The lemonade was refreshing and not very tart. The salad had nice flavor but felt lacking in the topping department. The Salmon Filet was amazing, perfectly cooked and the rice was my favorite-so citrusy and tangy. Went to celebrate a baby shower and we were sat in the corner away from most people which was appreciated. The decor and seating is beautiful and it wasn't too loud. They were pretty good with refills but seemed like food took quite a while. Allergies were discussed and still had a problem but were later accommodated for lack of communication. Didn't check the Yelp reviews beforehand and saw that no customers were dining during lunch in such a busy strip mall/shopping area. We were promptly seated and given menus, the server was awesome and knew every intimate detail of all items. Didn't know this place had been here since 2010 and was empty. Ashley's service was Amazing! We came to UT to celebrate my father-in-laws 80th Birthday and Ashley really made us (and him!) feel special. We really enjoyed all the courses from the charcuterie board, the kale salad, onion soup, halibut, beef medallions and wagyu filet. Prior to our visit, we didn't realize it was a 4 course meal but everything was delicious. I'm not sure how that was communicated when we made our reservation? I love the trees in the center of the restaurant. It took me to Italy. It was as if I left Provo and landed in a beautiful restaurant in Italy. I loved it. I came in with a large group and instead of me sharing plates I opted for the chefs table experience. I'm so glad I did because I was able to really taste the Chefs vision. The tasting started with a beautiful salad, I forgot the name of it but it was beautifully made and had a delicate raspberry flavor that I fell in love with. Next was mushroom ravioli- let me tell you.... BOMB! The mariners sauce was packed with flavor and the raviolis were slightly crispy which added a texture I didn't know I needed. Last was the sausage pasta. It came packed with a punch that almost knocked me out my seat. Lol but it was delicious. I ended my experience with a chocolate molten cake. I have to admit. I barely made it thru the first bite. Not that it wasn't delicious but it was decadent and I was stuck in a hotel with no water or milk to shower that down. But boy oh boy.... Chef did that. This restaurant did the opposite of what you expect a dinner of this quality to do. As the night goes on, the food is suppose to get better and better until the entree at the end blows you away. However, the appetizers and starters stole the show here, leaving the entrees to not hold up their end of the bargain. The starters we ordered were the pretzel with cheese (as pictured) and the parmesan truffle French fries. Both were AMAZING. In fact, those French fries might have been the best French fries I've ever had in my entire life. Unbelievable appetizers! Next we're the soups, which were equally as delicious. The mushroom and tomato soup, although simple, were elevated by the fresh ingredients and bold flavors of the cheese and croutons that accompanied them. Now comes the part of the story, that gets a little sad. The entrees were just ok. My steak tenderloins, which I was told were the best things on the menu, were chewy and tough to eat. One piece was perfect while the other I had to remove 4 bites from my mouth because I couldn't chew it. The vegetables were undercooked but had a nice char on them. And the potatoes were decent. The rest of my party described their meals as follows: 1. Lemon chicken was pretty overcooked and chewy 2. Shrimp scampi pasta was decent but nothing special. 3. Tenderloins were also chewy and veggies really undercooked. Overall, not a bad meal. I'd go back and give it another try just simply based on the amazing appetizers. Not only did our water glasses get filled quickly, but we were provided with a carafe of water so we could refill our glasses as needed. The "pallet cleanser" was two small cubes of aged white cheddar topped with a dollop of honey, and a small slice of dried fig. We were very apprehensive at first; but, to our surprise this tasted very pleasant. Our lemonade of choice was not available, but Adam recommended we try the coconut infused lemonade. That was so good we asked for a carafe of it to go with our dinner. For our first course, I had the French Onion Soup. The combination of cheese, bread, onions and broth were delicious! My wife had the Kale Salad with strawberries, blackberries, dried cherries, walnuts dressed with a lite vinaigrette. She enjoyed the combination of flavors and would like to order it again. I ordered the Salmon, which is my means of evaluating the quality of a restaurant. This salmon was one of the best flavored that I've enjoyed in recent years. The lemon rice was flavorful but not overpowering. Unfortunately, one of the asparagus spears had a tough, stringy end; the other three were perfect! My wife ordered the Lemon Chicken. It came with mashed potatoes and carrots. The lemon sauce on the chicken was delicious but insufficient for the meal. The carrots were undercooked and tough to cut, even with a knife. Because it was my wife's birthday we received a complimentary Birthday Dessert. The picture included shows the triple-chocolate layered dessert. This was a wonderful end to a very tasty dinner. The upscale room was decorated with reproductions of paintings by famous artists. The overhead canopy was artificial lemon trees with hanging lemons and lanterns.
