We used to love it here, but our last 3 visits were awful & 3 is enough to cross it off our list. POOR MANAGEMENT IS RUINING THIS PLACE! It's gotten so bad, we thought they changed hands. When manager Joey McDowel called, I told him we already decided not to return after being almost weekly customers for over a year. Food & service changed & are no longer good. He ignored me & said since we got 2 different pepperoni pizzas that were both missing pepperoni, they couldn't make us happy & we shouldn't bother going back! I had already made it clear that after our last visit, we had no intention of going back, so there was no need for his call, but he continued by threatening me with trespass if we ever go there again! WHO THE HELL TRAINED THIS INFANTILE BABY? He must be a relative, or he'd never have this job. He is not suited & too big for his tiny little britches. My husband is furious, he's going to corporate & the owners, he couldn't believe what he heard. We're in our 70's, our son is a classically trained chef who liked the pizza here until it wasn't good, my family owned bars & restaurants for years & my husband & I have eaten our way around the world twice but have never been insulted over a pizza. We know Skackwater puts pepperoni under the cheese, it's not rocket science or anything new, but when there is ZERO pepperoni, there is ZERO pepperoni. That's not our fault; it's the fault of Slackwater & managers like Joey who only make things worse. He has 0 people skills & his threatening demeanor is concerning. He was there for the 4-hour episode, where like criminals trying to prove our innocence, we had to rip off hunks of dough & hold them up to prove pizza #1 had only sauce, no cheese, then scrap the cheese off pizza #2 to prove there was no pepperoni underneath & that was after waiting almost 2 hours for them to arrive! After that Joey offered to comp the pizzas & admitted they were having problems in the kitchen. We declined remakes because my husband was waiting at home for his dinner, we were exhausted & just wanted to go. Joey forgot to put in the to-go pizza & we waited another hour for that! No comps, but we paid & left. The to-go pizza looked like a burnt hockey puck. I called & got yet ANOTHER manager who said she'd put a gift card at the front desk that would cover our food, alcohol & something extra for the time we spent, it should have been over $100. We waited 6 weeks & went back, but no gift card. Joey stupidly let it slip that they make so many gift cards for people who never come back that they throw them away every few weeks. That said it all for me! At our revisit, we spent over an hour being interrogated by another manager, she came back 3 times asking for details. We had no time to talk, eat or relax, at one point I told her to forget the gift card, it wasn't worth the hassle. I had spent time pulling up dates, texts & pictures for her & after 2 hours she disappeared & only left us a $50 gift card, 1/2 of what we spent! Bad business. I wasn't going to fight with these people; they make lame excuses & do what they want, so we paid & left. They have no idea how to run a restaurant & apparently don't know what repeat business is worth, which is sad, because people won't keep paying for poor service & bad food. Eventually the Herriman franchise will either change hands or go under. The final straw came Saturday. Against my better judgement after being called by family members who were driving through UT & wanted to make a fast stop at our house for dinner, I called Slackwater to order pizza so they could eat & get quickly back on the road. We ordered 1 cheese, 1 Ironhorse & 1 pepperoni with extra cheese, we got other stuff, but this is about pizza. I got an Ironhorse & 2 PLAIN CHEESE pizzas! All 3 were small & burnt. When I called, I was told to look under the cheese! OMG, we get that Slackwater puts pepperoni under the cheese, we ate there almost every week for a year & told them we had done a full search of the pizza before we called, but there was ZERO pepperoni! We didn't have time to wait for another pizza, so I declined a remake. A manager got on & offered to take the pizzas off our bill. I still don't see the credit & probably never will. Joey never said let me speak to the kitchen, sorry for the 3-hour wait, sometimes when things get busy a topping or an entire order gets forgotten or even, I'm sure things will be better if you try again. NO, Joey chose instead to threaten me, so I wouldn't go there again if Joey paid me to go. There are too many places to dine in this area where we enjoy the food & service. Slackwater is closer, but we'd rather travel than come in contact with a man so unstable he thinks it's best to threaten senior citizens, than make things right when he's the one who made the mistake. We had reservations here on a Thursday night before a show at Hale. They were very quick, so we didn't have to stress at all about timing. My one complaint is that we made our reservation for 6:15, but at 5:55, I received a text that my table was ready and would only be held for 10 minutes. That means our table would be given away if we didn't arrive 10 minutes BEFORE our reservation time. The pizza is fantastic. Which I kept saying to my party through bites of pizza. It is the crust that makes this pizza. It is a little sweet but not in a dessert way. It has the perfect chewy bite. I was impressed. My family stayed down the street at the HGI in Sandy for 5 nights for my son's soccer tournament and we visited Slackwater 3 times. Pro tip: join the waitlist on Yelp! Even during the week, the wait was 30+ mins each time. Food was great. We tried a lot of different pizzas - we got the Chicken Bro-Do, Hot Honey DP, Tikka Masala, Taco Camarones and Margherita. The airy artisan crust is the same on all pizzas and is delicious. I would recommend them all outside of the Camarones which felt a bit underwhelming as there was very little shrimp and flavor was flat. The Citrus Morita dry rub wings are incredible. We ordered these every night. The Morita chile sauce I would throw on everything. Super fresh and flavorful. It had the right amount of heat . The breadsticks are really good. Same bread that they use for the pizza and stuffed with a ton of cheese. Marinara sauce that comes with it is top notch. The Diablo sticks are spicy just to be spicy. The sauce isn't good. We switched to regular marinara. Would recommend staying away from these. Service is great. Everyone is very attentive. We love coming to this place! My cousin from out out town stayed over and when they asked for pizza and wings, I knew this place would rock their world! But we ordered our usual 2 tiki masala chickens ( it is the #1 pizza for a reason) the cardiac arrest , and the jala-berry seasonal wings. The pizzas make look small, but they are very filling. 2 men and 2 women and we still had a whole pizza left! The seasonal wings were so good! The poppyseed sauce on the wings was the cherry on top! I was impressed at how they easily handled such a large party and was also impressed with their variety in food and drinks! It was packed when I went in to pick up my order...all very positive signs and the expectations were high. I got the monthly special pizza..."Spring Fling" which was great. The crust was a little sweet as well which was unique. The Caesar salad was not that good and a little listless. Service was very disappointing sadly. Been a while since I left a review. Besides their endless beers, nothing has changed! Parking lot is huge but this place is ALWAYS busy!! Thursday night we had a 25-40 min wait for 2, but they check you in w text so you can hang at the bar etc. and it went by so fast we didn't even have time to pick a beer at the bar haha before our table was ready. I've been to this location a few times now, most recently after going to an aerial class with my Yelp fam. I first went to the location in Ogden before it moved down to Salt Lake County. We were seated pretty quickly, even on a somewhat busy evening. Our server was attentive and patient with us. He definitely took care of us that night. All of the pizzas we got were delicious! We came with a group of six on a Wednesday evening and only waited around 15 minutes, which was nice. Our waitress was wonderful, super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the California Sunrise and liked it. My husband enjoyed his Iron Horse pizza, and everyone else seemed happy with their meals. However, we specifically chose this spot because they offer gluten-free options, and two of our friends are gluten-free, including one with serious celiac disease. Unfortunately, he got sick about an hour later, likely from cross-contamination. It was really disappointing and potentially dangerous for someone with severe celiac, so just something to be aware of if that applies to you. I kinda wish all the wings were consistent in size (a couple of mine were puny) but its fine for the price IMO. PIZZA: I went for the Italian Job and per my bartenders rec, added feta (JUST DO IT). We decided to come to Slackwater after our wedding day and they were incredible to us! We got sat immediately, our server Emma was so incredibly sweet and so on top of it. She mentioned to us that she had just been sat a 50 top, but she still had the food out to us so fast. She also gave us some free beignets and when the check came out she told us that Slackwater had actually covered our bill. I was in the area for work and learned just how busy and popular this place is! Granted we had a large party (they looked like they accommodated a lot of large parties), but even with how busy it was we only had to wait about 15 minutes on a Wednesday. They have a lot of great beer and cider options, either on top or bottled. I noticed they even had one of my local favorites from where I live back in the California, the Cali Squeeze! But I had to try something new so I got a tasty cucumber cider. This place definitely has to be known for its pizzas, as the entire back side of the menu has at least 20+ different pizza combos. But if those aren't enough to choose form, you can also make your own! I was having a hard time choosing but ultimately went with the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. What a popular place to visit!! We walked in around 5pm on a Monday night and stood in line to get seated. We were able to get seated right away outside which we didn't mind as it was in the shade and under an umbrella. Sometimes Utah in July can get a bit toasty! Our waitress was very attentive and sweet to walk over the most popular menu items with us. The Check Your Garlic Breath was incredible!! Overall it was wonderful and we will be back. I'm docking a star because our server was basically nonexistent. Which makes sense because they were absolutely packed. Tons of people. When we showed up, there were probably 20 people outside waiting. They were totally slammed on a random Wednesday night. I was super glad we had a reservation. Despite being slammed they provided great service and were attentive all night. Scotty and Cassidy helped us and they were both awesome. The menu is super fun with a lot of unique pizzas. We got the gyro trip and tikkachu and both were amazing. My husband normally doesn't eat his crust and he said he would eat just the crust from slackwater. This was my first time here. I didn't do the best at getting pictures because I was in the moment. I got the honey hot pepperoni and it was delicious. I liked the portion size as well.
