What fabulous service we had at this restaurant once we got seated. I was truly impressed by the steps they took in preparing and plating our food. My friend wanted to split the bacon and blue burger and get soup as a side. We were fully prepared to cut the burger in half on our own. But they halved the burger, put each half on its own plate along with each of us getting a cup of soup. My friend swears they cooked her half longer because she wanted it more done than I did- don't think that was possible but..... The burger was 1/2 pounder. Very good. Soup was also great. Zappa toscana was thyme of soup. It had a ton of sausage in it. No scrimping there. Other orders included chicken Alfredo and roast beef sandwich. Unfortunately the sandwich was too grisly for my friend to eat more than a few bites. She should have told them but she didn't want to. Cute place. Has a pizza oven and the pizzas looked pretty good. Prefacing this... I have Celiac Disease and I told the server. Note: Instead of fries, I ordered a salad with my burger. First I will say that the burger was delicious... but.... And even though I ended up eating it, I'm almost regretting it. Because I'm worried... hoping that I don't experience issues because of what I did experience. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger on a gluten free bun. When it was brought out to me, I saw that it was on a regular bun with sesame seeds. The server took it back, and from past experience, I watched closely! And.... I watched the prep worker take the burger patty with the "fixins", with his gloved hand, from the regular bun and put it on a gluten free bun! That is a major cross-contamination issue and dangerous for someone with celiac disease. I got really upset and walked up to one of the staff and told them what I saw. This is not okay. I am grateful to the staff because I did see someone explain why it's wasn't okay. But still.... What if I hadn't been watching? read more

Definitely a good find in downtown Salt Lake that was within walking distance from our hotel. Very short wait, large open windows with street views to people watch. Looking at all the plates coming off from the grill, we knew we made a good choice. We had the Pastrami Burger and the Egg Burger, which I switched up and got protein style. Overall, the portion sizes were bigger and more than solid. I did feel like the meat needed to be seasoned a bit more, and after it arrived, I realized that our server did not ask how we wanted our Burgers cooked. WINNER! We have been exploring places in SLC when visiting from out of town and this place was chosen on a whim. We could not have been anymore satisfied with the selection. The Rizzotto cake with the roasted red bell pepper sauce was a great start to phase in the entree choices: Steak Stroganoff, Tri Tip Steak, and Grilled Salmon. Flavors were on par for the Tri tip and Grilled Salmon. The Stroganoff was a thinner sauce but still done nicely. The pomegranate lemon drop couldn't have been better. I would say slightly less syrup would make it more digestible. The short rib dish was good. The burger came out looking like an advertisement burger (the ones that are never real because they look too good, with all of their perfect toppings and layers. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. The bacon was thick, and crisp, lots of thinly layered onion, lettuce tomato and sauce. The bun was soft. The pizza was yummy, the crust was so good it could be eaten plain. There was homemade ranch, and ketchup and it was all so good. I wanted to take a picture of the burger after I took some bites, but it was too good to put it down and go through that!! We were on a trip to Park City/SLC and From Scratch was a 2 minute drive from our hotel. The menu looked good, so we called an Uber and made our way over. I'm glad we took a ride share, because the parking is almost non-existent here. This place's atmosphere is unfortunately one of those cold, sterile, Millennial restaurants with the uncomfortable stool seating and the cement floors. Random artwork, food served on cutting boards, cramped seating, AC blasting. Not really my type of place, but some may enjoy the "aesthetic". The coldness continued over to the staff. The hosts looked borderline annoyed that we were there. Maybe we read too much into it and they just simply were having a bad day, but they were giving us the death glare. Our server Jayce was also very rushed, but to her defense, she was working like a chicken with no head while the manager sat there and enjoyed a drink. The food was okay, nothing special. We started with the Wood-Fired Bread, which was actually pretty dry despite the hype our server gave it. The jams & butters on the side helped a bit, but we wouldn't get it again. Our entrees took 35 minutes to come out after we placed them. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs, and my Mom ordered the Tri-Tip Steak. My Braised Short Rib was a let down. The meat was cold on the inside, and the mashed potatoes were cold as well. My carrots were good but they only gave me 2. My Mom's steak was pretty good and tender, but the mashed potatoes were cold just like mine were. We told our server and they gave us a complimentary dessert, a Tiramisu. It was okay, kind of mushy, but it had a good coffee flavor. The Cajun sauce was delicious but not too spicy, and the dish was packed with shrimp and sausage ... they definitely did not skimp on the ingredients. If I could give this place 10 out of 5 stars I would. Everything was phenomenal. From the cocktails to the pastrami-topped grass-fed burger on gluten-free bun to the unbelievably amazing flourless lava cake and wonderful waitress. We shared the burger since it's a half-pound and there was no shared plate charge which made it even better. That left room for the dessert, which we're so glad we went for. It's probably a good thing we don't live up here or we'd be broke eating out almost every night. Lol. Knowing that everything is housemade is the cherry on top. When I saw the reviews for From Scratch, I was so excited to try the restaurant. I made my family go to dinner extra early (5:30pm!) so that we could beat the crowd. It was such a weird time that we didn't see much of a dinner rush while we were there. Perhaps we didn't order well, but I did ask the server if I should get the short ribs or the three-meat pizza. She recommended the short ribs entree which she said is one of their best dishes. The short ribs were pretty disappointed both in the portions (three smallish short ribs) and in flavor (fairly bland). We ordered the beet salad to start, and I appreciated that they split the plates for us but it would have been nice if they cleared the salad plates rather than let them sit there while we ate our entrees. I was visiting SLC for business and a colleague booked this restaurant for our group. This is the kind of original restaurants that I like to patronize when in a new area; much preferred over chain restaurants. When we arrived midweek, the place was pretty empty and we even had to wait for a staff member to come out and greet us. By the time we finished, the place was packed. If you have a large group or are in town for a convention and decide to go, I highly recommend you call and get reservations. We had a group of about 15 people that broke from our meeting and decided to go for lunch close to the hotel. I found this location as it was around the corner, and we decided to give it a go as the food looked really good. Walked into put our name on the list they were on the busy side. Most of the tables were taken. There was a very large table that was an occupied, but we were told it would be about 45 minutes to an hour for a week. We waited about an hour and 10 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant is kind of small and cozy, but room enough for people to walk around the tables and not bump into the neighboring table. Our poor little waitress we were those asshole customers that asked for the bill to be split before she even started taking the order. She think that's for letting her know ahead of time as it does make it a little easier for her when she is putting in the orders. She did great and taking our orders and getting us our drinks right away. The kitchen obviously was a little slammed so it did take a little bit for the food to come out. Fabulous thing is that everything is made from scratch and in house so it's worth the wait. Trying to eat a little healthier I decided to get a burger, but I had it wrapped in lettuce to get rid of most of the carbs. I must say the food was really good and very tasty with the exception of my burger was a little on the pink side .
