What fabulous service we had at this restaurant once we got seated. I was truly impressed by the steps they took in preparing and plating our food. My friend wanted to split the bacon and blue burger and get soup as a side. We were fully prepared to cut the burger in half on our own. But they halved the burger, put each half on its own plate along with each of us getting a cup of soup. My friend swears they cooked her half longer because she wanted it more done than I did- don't think that was possible but..... The burger was 1/2 pounder. Very good. Soup was also great. Zappa toscana was thyme of soup. It had a ton of sausage in it. No scrimping there. Other orders included chicken Alfredo and roast beef sandwich. Unfortunately the sandwich was too grisly for my friend to eat more than a few bites. She should have told them but she didn't want to. Cute place. Has a pizza oven and the pizzas looked pretty good. Prefacing this... I have Celiac Disease and I told the server. Note: Instead of fries, I ordered a salad with my burger. First I will say that the burger was delicious... but.... And even though I ended up eating it, I'm almost regretting it. Because I'm worried... hoping that I don't experience issues because of what I did experience. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger on a gluten free bun. When it was brought out to me, I saw that it was on a regular bun with sesame seeds. The server took it back, and from past experience, I watched closely! And.... I watched the prep worker take the burger patty with the "fixins", with his gloved hand, from the regular bun and put it on a gluten free bun! That is a major cross-contamination issue and dangerous for someone with celiac disease. I got really upset and walked up to one of the staff and told them what I saw. This is not okay. I am grateful to the staff because I did see someone explain why it's wasn't okay. But still.... What if I hadn't been watching? read more

Definitely a good find in downtown Salt Lake that was within walking distance from our hotel. Very short wait, large open windows with street views to people watch. Looking at all the plates coming off from the grill, we knew we made a good choice. We had the Pastrami Burger and the Egg Burger, which I switched up and got protein style. Overall, the portion sizes were bigger and more than solid. I did feel like the meat needed to be seasoned a bit more, and after it arrived, I realized that our server did not ask how we wanted our Burgers cooked. Both burgers came out well done, which took away from the overall flavor & were dry. I like my burgers medium but I assumed with them specializing in various burgers, it would start there. WINNER! We have been exploring places in SLC when visiting from out of town and this place was chosen on a whim. We could not have been anymore satisfied with the selection. The Rizzotto cake with the roasted red bell pepper sauce was a great start to phase in the entree choices: Steak Stroganoff, Tri Tip Steak, and Grilled Salmon. Flavors were on par for the Tri tip and Grilled Salmon. The Stroganoff was a thinner sauce but still done nicely. My only ask for a change would be to make the veggies slightly al dente, but they were still delicious. I would absolutely choose to eat at this place restaurant again. read more

Service was a little shaky at the beginning with servers confused on who was covering our table until we flagged them down. My daughter loved her pulled pork sammy, and wife her cheese burger. The handcrafted finely tuned Manhattan cocktail was icing on the cake for me. This was my first experience at From Scratch, and it won't be my last! I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. It was so GOOD. We shared the special a bacon Avocado cheeseburger with fries and a fennel sausage pizza. The burger came out looking like an advertisement burger (the ones that are never real because they look too good, with all of their perfect toppings and layers. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. The bacon was thick, and crisp, lots of thinly layered onion, lettuce tomato and sauce. The bun was soft. The pizza was yummy, the crust was so good it could be eaten plain. There was homemade ranch, and ketchup and it was all so good. I wanted to take a picture of the burger after I took some bites, but it was too good to put it down and go through that!! We were on a trip to Park City/SLC and From Scratch was a 2 minute drive from our hotel. The menu looked good, so we called an Uber and made our way over. I'm glad we took a ride share, because the parking is almost non-existent here. This place's atmosphere is unfortunately one of those cold, sterile, Millennial restaurants with the uncomfortable stool seating and the cement floors. Random artwork, food served on cutting boards, cramped seating, AC blasting. Not really my type of place, but some may enjoy the "aesthetic". The coldness continued over to the staff. The hosts looked borderline annoyed that we were there. Maybe we read too much into it and they just simply were having a bad day, but they were giving us the death glare. Our server Jayce was also very rushed, but to her defense, she was working like a chicken with no head while the manager sat there and enjoyed a drink. The food was okay, nothing special. We started with the Wood-Fired Bread, which was actually pretty dry despite the hype our server gave it. The jams & butters on the side helped a bit, but we wouldn't get it again. Our entrees took 35 minutes to come out after we placed them. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs, and my Mom ordered the Tri-Tip Steak. My Braised Short Rib was a let down. The meat was cold on the inside, and the mashed potatoes were cold as well. My carrots were good but they only gave me 2. My Mom's steak was pretty good and tender, but the mashed potatoes were cold just like mine were. We told our server and they gave us a complimentary dessert, a Tiramisu. It was okay, kind of mushy, but it had a good coffee flavor. I'm giving 2 stars because I think this place has potential, but they need to work on their service and making sure their food is coming out hot. Everything looked better than it tasted. read more

When I saw the reviews for From Scratch, I was so excited to try the restaurant. I made my family go to dinner extra early (5:30pm!) so that we could beat the crowd. It was such a weird time that we didn't see much of a dinner rush while we were there. Perhaps we didn't order well, but I did ask the server if I should get the short ribs or the three-meat pizza. She recommended the short ribs entree which she said is one of their best dishes. The short ribs were pretty disappointed both in the portions (three smallish short ribs) and in flavor (fairly bland). We ordered the beet salad to start, and I appreciated that they split the plates for us but it would have been nice if they cleared the salad plates rather than let them sit there while we ate our entrees. Scored on sourdough!!! This place has A1 service, food, and an A1 atmosphere. The location is sort of hidden, we almost walked past it when trying to find it. Everyone at my table LOVED their food.
