Trout

It's been a while since I've left a restaurant feeling so happy. The food took my taste buds on quite the adventure. We did the tasting menu and got to try so many things. We had the strawberries and beets, brussels sprouts, stroganoff pierogi, the local burrata on pumpkin bread, and the trout as our main. for dessert we had the lemon olive oil cake with blueberry compote, as well as the chocolate torte with pistachio gelato and hazelnuts. We somehow ended up with a third dessert being the pumpkin cheesecake. All of it was so good. Everything is very chef-y and I mean that as a high compliment. Our server was Austin and he was great. This is my second time at Pago and both times I received lovely service. The restaurant feels warm and cozy serving is a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy a wonderful meal.

My favorite dinner from our trip to SLC! The menu is small but well-curated, wide variety of new American dishes. You really can't go wrong with anything. Service was great and the ambiance was warm and sophisticated. We were happy to learn how many ingredients are locally sourced! We started with the salmon tart, which was fresh, and packed with flavor. For our entrees, we tried the gnocchi and stroganoff which were both phenomenal. The handmade pasta was unbelievable. Perfectly done and the sauces complemented each dish perfectly. To end, we tried the peanut butter mousse. Very fun and we loved the little chocolate balls. Can't wait to come back!

Went to Pago last night and had an awesome experience. We ordered the beef tallow frites (crispy and flavorful), the strawberry & beet salad (super fresh and well-balanced), and the trout, which was perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. Everything tasted amazing. Our server (Logan) was also incredibly accommodating of a gluten-free allergy and made sure we felt taken care of the whole time.

Dessert! Butter cake. So good!

This is one of the best dinners out we've had in Salt Lake City. Everything was spot on and amazing. We shared the buratta. The best ever and get the bread and special butter to go with it. We shared a salad and I had the fish. Everything is delicious and the ingredients used are top notch. We sat out on the patio which was lovely and the service was excellent. We were very well taken care of and suggestions and descriptions were much appreciated. We will definitely go back.

This is my second time in this place, and the food has been amazing, and this time we had great customer service. I got to try their Elf Bolognese pasta, and it was so delicious, and you can taste the difference of the elf from beef. The SHORT RIB STROGANOFF was also good!

Pago is the perfect place for a date night, and it is my boyfriend and my go-to place for special occasions. The atmosphere is always spectacular, but be sure to schedule a reservation on their website no matter the day of the week. The service is fast, friendly, and competent. They're always willing to offer drink and food suggestions. The food is delicious! My boyfriend ended up eating his entire plate and what was leftover from mine because all of the dishes are so tasty!

Wow! Btw you will need a reservation to come here! I have to say this place is so pretty. Woodsy feel for sure. The inside and the paintings. Even the furniture has a great vibe. I thought it was an Italian restaurant but it's new American! So we got the burrata with bread, short rib pasta, and salmon with potato gnocchi. My friend got the apple crisp for dessert too. The pasta was perfect. I really liked the shape of the pasta that was in the short rib. Not too rich, and not too salty either. The mushrooms were the best in it too. It's nice to try new places here in the slc area! And it was such a treat! They were attentive and made sure we got our food. I'm coming back for sure.

Every time I bring someone new to Salt Lake City, this farm-to-table gem is at the top of my list. The burgers are seriously next-level -- juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I really appreciate their commitment to the farm-to-table approach; it makes the whole experience feel thoughtful and rooted in the local community. Great vibes, friendly staff, and food that always hits the mark. Can't recommend it enough!

Beetroot tartare- decent but needed salt
Dawn K.

My experience tonight was actually a 3.5 stars, but because the burger is so good, I'll leave my 4 star rating. I'll start with how long it took our waiter to address us. Too long. It wasn't busy at 5:15, so not sure why? We started with beetroot tartare. Our first bite, we were both like, hmmm, after our second bite, we both concluded it needed salt, we added salt, and it was much better. Local mushrooms, again, needed salt, what the?! I'm not a heavy salter (my husband is), and it desperately needed it. After we salted them, much better. Sweet potato salad, AGAIN, needed salt. I had to tell our waiter, because this has never happened to me. Later we overheard another table asking for salt..??!! I ordered the burger and my husband got short rib stroganoff, which he loved. My burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned. One of my favorite burgers in Utah. We had to laugh because the waiter brought a knife out with my burger, and my husband said, "your bringing that out like we're sharing that burger, but we're not, that's all her!" Ha! The burger is yummy. We finished off the meal with the maple blondie, which we both agreed was incredible. One last thing that was frustrating is that I went online to check out their menu beforehand, but when we got there, the menu was totally different, not cool. Come for the burger, leave room for the blondie.

The dishes were as beautiful as they were delicious! Such unique flavor combinations and true passion are used to prepare these dishes for you! The servers were informative and really enjoyed being there making for a great date night/ pre symphony ambiance!

This was my second time to Page this weekend and we had such a wonderful experience here from start to finish. Our server, I believe her name was Sophia, was wonderful and made our experience so lovely. We started out with the Table X bread, which wasn't on the menu, but our server mentioned it and I remembered having it the last time I came. The Table X sourdough is some of the best sourdough either of us had ever had. Definitely order it! It comes out steaming hot with a delicious warmed herb butter. Drooling over here just thinking about it. A friend recommended that we get the mushrooms appetizer. They have French onion creme fraiche, beluga lentils, and crispy shallots and we were literally licking the plate and trying to get every last bite they were so good. Who knew mushrooms could be prepared so deliciously?! I got the Caccio e Pepe and it was phenomenal. Perfectly creamy and delicious, I ate every last bite. My partner got the Pago burger which is the star of their menu. He said it was the best burger he's had. At first, he wasn't sure if he wanted to order it because he said he can get a burger anywhere, but he was so glad that he did. It came with truffle fries, which I also ate many of. You can't go wrong with truffle fries! I got two drinks - their "Draper Mom" with vodka, hibiscus, honey, and lemon I believe. It was wonderful and not too sweet. I also ordered their gin and tonic with a house made lemongrass tonic. It was so delicious and the lemongrass was a nice touch. We went all out and finished with their peanut butter cheesecake with a house made graham cracker crust. We were so stuffed we had to take it to go and ate it later that night. Everything was amazing. Such a quaint, cozy, wonderful experience. Reservations are definitely needed on the weekends as this place fills up quickly. Can't wait to come back!

Thank you Logan for being a fabulous server! This spot was on point from beginning to end! So many amazing dishes! The mushrooms and lentils was a fun combo. Little gem salad super light and bright and the addition of popcorn was very unique. My chicken schnitzel was AWESOME! Hello juiciness and that accent of hot honey is always a good idea. Loved me mustard and dill spatzel to complement it. Everyone raved about their dishes. And the caramel gelato was the perfect close to the meal. Such a great meal!

Smoked burata with chilled beets, whipped goat cheese with apricots and yellow beets, and grapefruit, oranges and arugula salad
Gabe P.

Some of the best food I've had in my life! The chef knows what the heck he's doing, and comes up with flavors that you are amazed when you taste! We got the smoked burrata among other things, really good. I also want to note the whipped mousse we got for dessert, probably the best dessert you can find. They were very nice to rearrange some tables to get us in, but usually I understand you need reservations. It's not very big, they have also some tables outside, but no bar area.

We joined them for a Valentine's Weekend dinner so of course the place was busy but we were able to secure a reservation in advance for our table for two. It felt like a very young and vibrant place when we arrived and the lighting is dim. We were promptly greeted and welcomed by Samantha our server. She made our evening special. Their wine and cocktail menu is quite expansive so there are many options for libations. We brought a bottle of our own favorite red wine to enjoy with a $25 corkage fee added. They were offered a special menu this weekend due to the holiday so we tried some special items not normally available. We started with the beets as a shared salad. Fresh red and yellow beets mixed with silver queen cheese and a light vinaigrette dressing. Very fresh and tasty. For our entrees we ordered the scallops with parsnips and the shrimp panzanella. Both of this dishes hit the WOW factor. The portions were sizable and while each dish was very different they shared flavors that just popped. We ran out of room and didn't get a chance to try dessert but they have a few items on the menu that sounds yummy.

Then there are not a lot of seats inside with a small bar. Service was outstanding and very friendly. They do not have a large wine list, but we found a good bottle of red. The menu is not large either, but everyone in our party of 4 loved everything. For appetizers, we had the sourdough bread, a cheese course, and something called milk-braised potatoes. The bread was delicious and absolutely worth it. Then we all devoured the cheeses--all three were wonderful (for one, we got name and chased it down and bought more the next day. They source most of their ingredients locally and approach preparation with creativity and a real mindfulness about waste. You can taste that intention in every dish. You absolutely have to try the milk-braised potato. It's one of those rare dishes that surprises you with how deeply satisfying it is: simple in concept, executed perfectly, and completely memorable. The chicken pot pie is another standout. A beautifully roasted drumstick crowns the pastry; you lift it out to let the pie cool (and you'll need to because it arrives piping hot). Upon entering, the evening seemed promising. The ambiance was moody and intimate, the host was astute and welcoming, and the tile work was beautiful. As the night wore on, however, things slowly stopped adding up to a delicious dining experience. The first thing was the waitress. Apparently the host was also the waitress... and the bartender... and the busser - not that you would know it because of how attentive she was, but shortly after getting our small plates I mentioned to my cousin that I hadn't seen any other person working in the restaurant. While I knew that couldn't be true, I was facing into the restaurant and I only ever saw two other men casually saunter out from the kitchen, look around, and saunter back. No one looked excited to be working there, but the two men who appeared from the kitchen gave me no sense of urgency or purpose, only just that they were extremely bored. The second thing that didn't add up was the Farm to Table narrative. As our Swiss Army Server (thanks for that one, Dimitri) was opening up our wine and recommending dishes, I asked where the farm was located. Apparently, the farm is located in California, and this "farm" owns several other "Farm to Table" restaurants... hmmm... When it came to ordering, we were instructed to order all of our dishes upfront, but that they would come out in courses... While things rolled out like that, the way we were required to order and the way our food came out gave the distinct impression that they weren't dishes being made to order - only delivered to the table in such a way as to give the illusion that they were. Dishes you would expect to come out hot came out room temperature. Dishes you would expect to come out chilled came out room temperature. When each course came out they came out one dish at a time, but one immediately after another... almost like they had been sitting on a table in the kitchen just waiting for anyone to order them. The final, and perhaps most telling thing that didn't add up, was the distinct lack of any smell coming from the kitchen - let alone the restaurant. Only after we left the establishment did we realize how fresh and clean the air smelled. As a home chef, I understand that not every dish calls for garlic and onion, but what about salt? What about pepper? What about any kind of butter or seasoning or even a maillard reaction? In this day and age of salted dark chocolate caramels and umami, attempting any dish completely void of salt is a brave choice, but it's certainly not a heroic one. I mean, we're talking about a restaurant that cooks and serves a filleted trout with its head still attached, eyes buggin' out, bones in, the works! How are we not smelling the fish when it hits the table‽ Have you ever plugged your nose while you tasted something?... Exactly... To finally wrap this review up - the reason why I'm giving this experience 1 star is because the service was attentive, the beet salad was good, and the rest made us laugh uncontrollably at how bad it was. The potato pave was a fun gimmick, and the brussel sprouts were crispy but the pork tenderloin and the fish had no smell, no recordable temperature, and the only flavor I could identify was... dusty dirty mop water? I just don't know... we even tried to load up bites of pork and fish with the polenta, the sautéd and pickled greens, and the "sauces", but nothing helped... if anything, it made things taste worse... truly, I've never been closer to becoming a vegan. People will say we should've just sent back the food, but I've worked in food and bar service. How does requiring that level of service from your waitress for your patrons even begin to make up for a business model whose only job is to make food taste good? After all, I can get that level of service from McDonalds, even though I've never had an experience that required it from them... If you do decide to go to Roux for your next meal, maybe make it breakfast... from my experience, breakfast is a hard meal to mess up.
