Just returned home from a phenomenal experience. Everything about my meal was nothing short of extraordinary. The dining room is so cozy. Our server, Wendy was great! The meal was delicious. We started off with the crispy Brussels sprouts - to say it's the best Brussels sprout I've ever had would be an understatement. The texture of them is out of this world, the apple cider vinegar that glazes them is perfect. The sweet acidity of that glaze is an incredible accompaniment to the sprouts, almonds, and cheese. Next we shared the celeriac blue cheese emulsion and wedge salad. The emulsion was delicious. The herb vinaigrette on our salad was delightful. I ordered the wagyu for my entree and to put it simply - it was a joy to eat. The plating was beautiful. Every part of the dish was sensational. My boyfriend ordered the lamb shank and the lamb fell off the bone and the potato it was served with was unbelievable! I felt so joyful during my entire dinner service. Their menu changes weekly so it's always exciting to see what their new burgers are every Thursday. My friends ordered their "gyro" burger and I ordered off the menu along with a few appetizers. I didn't try the gyro burger because it was very raw on the inside. It was lamb and wagyu but I prefer my burger meats to be cooked all the way through. My friends said it was sweet and it's probably because they glazed the bun. The fat bastard oysters were too big for my liking. There's also gelato on top which was weird because it made the oyster taste like it was partially frozen. I don't recommend this. The rolls tasted like biscuits. It was crumbly and it wasn't expected for a nice restaurant. The heirloom tomato pastry was my favorite dish of the night. The half sashimi trout was more like a stew in sweet sauce. The baby yellow potatoes were just added without any seasonings. Assuming it should soak in the sweet juices? I didn't care for it. Trout was good, but preferred that the skin was crispy, which was extremely soggy, drowned in the sauce. Server asked if I wanted bread to drink the sauce and sure. Why not. It may taste better with regular bread and it wasn't. You can also skip valet parking if you just walk an extra minute down the parking lot. I forgot what one of the desserts name but it was the one with butter cake. This was extremely sweet too with the gooey caramel sauce. The donut was ridiculously expensive at $16 with a little honeycomb decoration. Nothing special with the desserts. Overall, everything is sweet here. Francks is really good. The food is always on point. And we've been coming here for years. The service is impeccable. The atmosphere is great. We sat out on the patio and it was perfect. It was my mother's birthday and we wanted to spend a little extra time with my folks. The menu hasn't changed much over the years with many of the same staple items that have been here for years. They do switch them up a little from time to time adding a different side or accompaniment. The fried chicken, meatloaf, Wagyu steak and so on. The difference is that their prices have gone up 50% most dishes used to run around $28, with the Wagyu steak being $59. Now everything is around $44-49 and the Wagyu is still $59. The small bowl of soup used to be around $8 now $12. Appetizers were $12-18 now $17-28. For four of us, no drinks, the bill came to $320 with a 20% tip. read more

I had been meaning to try this hidden restaurant in the Knudsen Corners area of Holladay and my girlfriend had been several times. We will be back. Service was great with Wendy, the server, and Lisa, a very nice hostess. The rest of the staff was very attentive and kept our water glasses full and our table clean. We had the fondue appetizer. My girlfriend had the pork loin and I had an outstanding king salmon entrée. Menu changes nightly. My girlfriend loved the white wine and I had a Heineken Zero, a great nonalcoholic beer. I celebrated my birthday here last night and it was absolutely perfect. I was in town from Scottsdale and chose one of my favorite restaurants to celebrate with family. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which everyone loved. I usually order the fried chicken, but this time went with the Wagyu beef--melt-in-your-mouth tender with really interesting flavor combinations, though slightly on the salty side. My dad ordered the fried chicken and enjoyed it, but felt the breading was a bit heavy and may have been slightly undercooked. The rest of the table had the cod and pork loin, and both were big hits--we cleaned every plate. They easily accommodated our party of five even though the reservation was for four, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was bubbly, attentive, and made the night feel special. We are from out of town, and decided to go to Francks' for dinner because a friend recommended it. We ordered all their popular dishes- the fried chicken, the cheese fondue and the meatloaf. Everything tasted decent at the time and we had some leftover to take home. Today we heated up the leftover chicken and discovered that part of the drumstick was RAW! Francks has become a favorite on our go-to dining list. We love bringing out-of-town guests here because we know it will be impressive. From the great service, beautiful outdoor seating in the summer, and impressive food, both in flavor and presentation. You have to go on Thursday and have their special burger. It changes every week, and if you sign up for the emails, you will get a perfect description of the unique burger of the week. Francks creates flavor combinations you would never have thought of, and it all goes together perfectly. The tomato pie appetizer is fantastic! I have to order it every time I go. I will go there just for the tomato pie, but I can't stop, because everything else is amazing! If you haven't been to Francks, make a reservation. I read many reviews on this restaurant before deciding to dine here. I wanted a fine dining experience without all of the pomp and circumstance. Francks fit the bill. The atmosphere was inviting and not stuffy which is what I wanted. The service was prompt and as to be expected. We started with the cheese fondue. It was a bit "watery" on top. I believe it was due to incorrect temp or its lack of emulsifying, which released the liquid from the cheese. We've had a multitude of cheese fondues in America as well as Europe. This one was just meh tasting. The fire under the pot was too low so we didn't get to experience the browned, almost crispy bits of cheese that you should def scrape from the bottom of an almost completely devoured fondue. It's the best part IMHO. The last of the cheese was stringy and no longer stuck to the remaining bread provided for the dish. The Brussels sprouts were delicious and some of the best I've had. I had the meatloaf. It was a combo of pulled pork and beef. It didn't taste like any meatloaf I have ever had, but I expected that from the descriptions I had read. I actually haven't had meatloaf in ages but Francks came highly recommended by reviewers so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately it wasn't a good choice. The texture was that of a soft pulled pork and possibly a very mushy beef brisket mixed together and having an even mushier baby. It had no semblance of the savory crust and moist and tender inside of meatloafs past that I have enjoyed. It was placed on top of lukewarm mashed potatoes and topped with rubbery onion strings that I'm sure were prepared well ahead of service and that allowed them to become their rubbery selves. Hubby had the lamb shank. He said the beets were a great accompaniment but the cold potato salad was a bit odd. I tried the potato salad and found it tasty, but I didn't have it paired with a lamb shank. He said the lamb itself was good, but he has def had moister and better. We enjoyed our glasses of white wine and brought a bottle of our own red. The corkage fee was reasonable. The wine list was good, but not exceptional. If you want an amazing bottle of wine to pair with your meal, I suggest bringing your own and paying the reasonable corkage fee. They were very accommodating about this for us. read more

I was craving some French food and this came up on the recommendations. The valet attendant was very friendly, it was just kinda silly that we had to get out of our car so that he could park it on the very first parking space that was actually closer to the restaurant entrance and just a few steps from where we got off. We did the Valentine's dinner. I think they had a fruity theme going that night. Everything had fruit on it in some way or another. I found the dried aged tuna inedible. Their Sanchoku wagyu was covered in this sweet sauce that in my opinion completely took away from a good cut of meat. And then to finish the night, I had to pull a clear piece of plastic out of my month that was inside my dessert. I understand people make mistakes so I didn't make a big deal out of it. But that was quite unpleasant. I certainly expected a higher level of care at this establishment. For the positives, everyone is very friendly and attentive, our server kept checking up on us. It was quite an experience eating their raspberry emulsion. Their snapper was pretty good. Their outdoor sitting area is beautiful. Unfortunately, not a place I would patronize. read more

Torn between a four star through five star rating. The food was amazing. Each dish was very unique. We ordered rolls one of their famous soups, the Wagyu the waiter had recommended. I can't even explain how the different flavors blended together in their own way. We paid $100 for the enclosed area outside and before we got our first plates, the lighting on the globe outside had went off. The waiter tried to fix it but it wouldn't turn back on. Of course there is a little light on the inside as well as a heater, ambience just was a little different. Definitely is not worth $100 at all. But it is super cute and personal. The waiter was super knowledgeable, as if he studies the menu every night and has tried everything on the menu. He seemed a little young, but he had a good personality and knew exactly what he was talking about, which was refreshing. I love this place. This is the best restaurant in all of Utah. I use to live in Utah. I flew from California just to eat here. I feel like the bad reviews are just people that cant afford a 40.00-60.00 plate. It's worth it. You have to understand quality to eat here. This is the place I think should replace the other restaurants that schools take you to eat snails during French class. I think Francks should contact all the high schools French teachers and offer better restaurants for the students. I remember paying 45.00 to go eat a snail in French class field trip. I went here for my birthday dinner with some friends a few months ago and had a fantastic experience. I called in advance to see if the chef could prepare something vegan/gluten free for me and when I got to the restaurant, the waiter pointed out an entree on the menu that had been added just for me. They also surprised me with a small plate of fruits for my birthday dessert (since I couldn't have a more typical birthday cake). My friends and I enjoyed all of our dishes that night and would highly recommend Franck's given the delicious food, accommodating chef, kind service, and beautiful ambiance (get outdoor seating if you can). read more

Wow. This place rules. Great ambiance, especially outside. Decent cocktails, good wine list, *awesome* menu. To start we ordered the brioche rolls with miso-honey butter. I'm going to have to figure out how to make this at home because WOW. Next up was the heirloom tomato and burrata dish which had such complexity of flavor and texture...it was simply delicious. I've never had pickled walnuts before but they really did something special for this dish. For our mains we had a pork loin ramen (incredible -- the pork loin was so tender, egg cooked perfectly, and the each individual component was so fresh) and the pumpkin miso couscous tuna dish was so comforting with craveable fall flavors and tasty grilled tuna. The only thing that didn't totally blow us away was our dessert -- some sort of hand pie. The curry ice cream was good but the pastry in the pie wasn't quite right. Someone seated near us had some carrot cake that looked outstanding, for what it's worth. I would totally return here to try more dishes (or get that ramen pork loin again), and I'd be very intrigued to try their tasting menu. This place is definitely a winner! read more

Recommended food: -Burger Thursdays -- so worth it and the burgers are mind-blowing. -Fondue with bread cubes to dip-- both the fondue itself and bread cubes are SO good. Be careful, or else you won't leave room for your main entree. I would recommend sharing this appetizer with like a group of 4 people. -Kurobota pork -- super tender and tasty -Francks meatloaf -- also really delicious. Was here to celebrate a birthday. The valet was quick and easy, and we did not have to wait long to be seated after checking into our reservation. The indoor dining room didn't get too full on a Saturday night, which was surprising because of how good the meal was. Crispy Brussel Sprouts - A fantastic starter. I love crispy fried brussel sprouts, but the balance of the bitter tarragon with the acidity of the reduction was just perfect. Order this and you won't regret it. I could have just eaten two bowls of this and been happy to be honest. Coconut, Mint, and Carrot Emulsion - Creamy with a big hits of mint and back end sweetness from the carrot. With the coconut it definitely is reminiscent of a curry. Braised Pork Belly - The dish was much larger than I thought it would be, which is always a plus. The pork belly was braised to perfection. Usually with a braise, the meat will simply just fall apart, but here they prepared it just right: the meat had enough integrity to cut with a fork and knife, all without the loss of tenderness and melt-in-your-mouth goodness. While the smashed potatoes were basic and bland, they were perfect vessels for mopping up the mushroom sauce. With the soft grilled peaches to the confit mushroom, one could argue that it was texturally one note (soft on mush). But altogether it had this unctuousness that had me reaching for more and more. Would definitely order again. Crispy Braised Lamb Shank - When meat is served on a large bone with meat effortlessly falling off of it, you know you're in for a good time. It was definitely crispy and slightly charred. I wasn't much of a fan of the barley salad, but with tender, textured meat like this, a lot can be overlooked. read more

Unfortunately we were seated under a tree that a worm would fall down from the tree every 2 mins so we switched to indoors. It was pleasant then. Our waitress was attentive to us, it wasn't packed on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded. When I first read the menu, it felt like the restaurant was trying to do a little bit of every cuisine in a small menu. Southern, American, Asian, Mediterranean, etc. The tomato pie was great, very unique and delicious. My wagyu steak was very on point, tender and well seasoned. I'm not a big fan of wasabi and kinda not getting why they choose wasabi sauce, but overall it's not a big deal. My husband loves lamb shank and would recommend it. We were visiting Salt Lake City and saw this pop up on our list of places to visit! It is a cute little restaurant with an outdoor garden. The food reminds me of Michelin rated foods but instead of minuscule portions they are normal sized :') we were actually very surprised by the large portion sizes. Be warned! I had so much food leftover!!! Also my husband said the gin and tonic was the best he's ever had. Parking is by valet. It is free though! I don't even know where to start. If you enjoy a foodgasm, this is your next stop. I digress... it started with valet parking! I mean, everyone gets this! We had never been more self conscious of a minivan with a bike rack being kindly taken and parked next to a Porsche. It was awesome. The first person we met, as we walked in to the most serene garden, was a bus boy. He welcomed us warmly and held the door for us. Wanna make a girl weak in the knees? Treat her like a queen! Yes bus boy! (Is bus boy rude? I mean no shame. I loved him!) Thank you sir. We were seated in the garden and could not have been happier. The ambiance! Then we met Zuzana, our server. The most lovely woman ever. She skillfully suggested some drinks and directed us to a few things that shouldn't be missed on the menu. We ordered two apps, 4 drinks, and mains. She brought out the first app and didn't even dream of bringing the second until we had licked the dish clean. Perfect timing. The first dish was a beet, cornbread, cheese gelato extravaganza! Every. Single. Bite. Slapped! We immediately wished we would have ordered two of the same! We didn't, and actually, the second app maybe even topped the first!? Tuna cake. All I can say is do it. It's not what you think. Get a little of every herb, nut, cake, sauce etc in every bite... you're welcome. I think we ate this whole dish with our eyes closing right after the fork entered the mouth. Foodgasm. The main dish won't even be described because this has already become too long... and the truth is I haven't done any of the food, or drink, any justice... with my weak words that poorly describe the experience we actually had. Went for our anniversary dinner date. It is next door to Tuscany and that is it's sister restaurant. They sit on the same property. We had an outdoor reservation but nothing was available so we waited for about an hour for a table, because that is why I wanted to eat her in the first place. They were able to give us cocktails and beers while we waited. I think the patio area is just so lovely people linger longer than usual so just a heads up on that. Highly recommend the fondue but it is filling. Once we were seated the service was great, food was delish and creative. Save room for dessert and get the rainbow cake, it was so fun to eat and makes you feel like a kid! read more

I've had my eyes on this place for awhile. I've gone back and forth on coming for my anniversary. Well, I didn't even make it out of the parking lot - I'm writing this review! Francks is something entirely it's own. The ambience is perfectly not perfect. It's cozy and not pretentious all while being nice at the same time. All the staff seemed really cool, chill and relaxed - like they enjoyed being there. We started with the brussels, yummmmmmmm. Crispy, delicious and a must try on your first visit I'd say. The rolls and butter truly melted in your mouth, it was weird but like a really good weird. My husband got the meatloaf. This should not be overlooked. This is not your mom's meatloaf, it's shredded pieces of delectable meat that are savory and accompanied by beautiful blueberries. For me, I went with the classic- the fried chicken. It's easy to do well, sure - but it's hard to do differently and execute on. I think they did that here, it is not just your average fried chicken. The meal itself- all its little pieces build upon one another. Absolutely delicious! We also had a special dessert, which was like a lime cake amazing thingy with cotton candy. That was worth not being able to button my pants for completely. All in all, if you are second guessing yourself- stawp. You need to get yourself to Francks! Portions are very generous, the stuff is wonderful and you will be at ease inside their beautiful restraunt. Update: Ate the rest of my chicken for lunch today. First the service was great - we were almost the only two people in there on a Sunday night. We ordered some champagne, a beet salad and the Brussel sprouts - beet salad was fantastic, Brussel sprouts were fine - nothing special. Our server talked us into the meat loft and we ordered a bottle of red - the meat loft hit the table before the wine / we waited for the wine and it was ice cold by the time the wine arrived and was opened (2017 Mont Redon CNP) served way too cold - we drank the wine tasted the meatloaf and both at that and the brussels sprouts were put in to go containers. We had the recommended carrot cake - again nothing special - finished our wine got the check paid and departed. Both of us had later stomach issues - guessing the meatloaf- nothing serious, but nothing fun! The place needs a serious refresh - decor is dated and worn - I was excited to revisit, but don't need to return with all the other choices out there.
