I am always searching for great Thai food. We had take out from this bistro during Covid and although that crazy time is a bit of a blur, it had not made a lasting impression. My friends on Yelp recommended Fav, so why not give it another try. On a weeknight at 5pm, we were the first dinner customers and were seated right away. The atmosphere was clean, but a bit dated, with lots of plants. A few overgrown vines out front were even trying to sneak in the door. The staff was understated and polite. We ordered our usual to share. The food was delivered promptly and was fresh and nicely presented. The Pad Thai had an excellent flavor and neither greasy nor too sweet. We added shrimp and it came with some mixed in and 3 tempura fried on the side. Nice touch since you pay a premium. The Massaman came with about one cup of rice, so we ordered more. It wasn't my favorite. I prefer a creamier curry, I didn't love the deep fried tofu, and would have liked more vegetables. The Pineapple Fried Rice was attractively served in a half pineapple, we added tofu. But, the flavor was a bit blah. I enjoyed the fresh pineapple in it, but it lacked a lot of other add ins and didn't really wow us. We tried 4 cookies, made in-house, for dessert. They have very creative flavors, but unfortunately they were a bit dry and didn't leave us coming back for more. I love it when a restaurant appeals to multiple senses- sight, smell, taste, etc. This one definitely hits on them all. The décor is aesthetically pleasing with contrasting colors on the walls and ceilings, beautiful furniture and plants all around. It's not the trendy look that more modern places have, but it's a classic ambience that appeals to all ages. The menu is robust with options for every palate and the dishes that come out are equal parts beautiful and tasty. Nothing about it says careless or disinterested. The Thai Chicken Rice soup was delicious and the little chunks of ginger have a way of making my taste buds wake up and stand at attention. We have eaten there a few times and the service is slow and unenthusiastic and the food is hit-or-miss. Today we had the papaya salad which wasn't bad and the vegan crunch which had an unpleasant hot flavor (i like hot usually). The sticky rice that came with the salad was stuck so tight i could barely chew it. The biggest criticism is the service. The lady manager is so unfriendly and has the personality of a robot. She never came by to check on us and upon leaving was cold. I like the decor and location, but I think I will not return. read more

Our first time dining in at Fav Bistro won't be our last! We arrived early in the evening for dinner and were seated quickly near some lovely, big windows. Our server brought waters and took our drink orders immediately, then returned shortly to take our order. The menu indicated that chicken wings could take a while, so we ordered those for our appetizer. We didn't wait long, though! They came out quickly and were hot, crispy, with a super tasty sweet and sour-ish sauce. For our main dishes, we tried the seafood curry (with coconut milk) and the Kao Soi. Both were incredible, with unique flavors and generous portions. We're so glad this gem is in our very own Holladay neighborhood! We will be back to try more items from the expansive menu and are looking forward to checking out their breakfast, too. read more

My eyes might've been bigger than my stomach when we stopped here for dinner after a camping trip but everything on the menu looked so delicious. We ordered boba, an appetizer, and an entree each and could barely even make a dent in the entrees. I couldn't decide what I wanted, the whole menu looked so good! We each ordered a boba - I got a brown sugar milk boba, and my partner ordered the blended strawberry boba. Both were delicious - his was a little bit sweeter than mine. We ordered the avocado spring rolls as an appetizer, but they came out with our entrees. This was fine, because the boba was pretty filling anyways. I got the glass noodle salad with tofu and it was so delicious. There was so much food I couldn't even finish it and it didn't even look like I had made a dent. I took most of it to-go and ate it later that night. My partner ordered the massaman curry with steak and fries and his portions were huge too! We had never seen anything like that curry before - steak, massaman curry, and french fries, what a delicious combination. The service was a little bit on the slower side and we were there earlier in the evening and were only one of two tables. It took some time for someone to bring waters and take our orders, and then our appetizer came out with our entrees. It wasn't a huge deal, but something we noticed. Fav Bistro is one of our favorite spots! I'd highly recommend any of Annie's restaurants, which each have a different spin on taste. We love the steak curry poutine which puts a super unique spin on the dish! I highly recommend the mixed grain fried rice, which comes with large vegetables and an egg, and has a ton of flavor. We tried stopping in for dinner tonight (1/31) and ended up walking out--something I've never done before. From the moment we walked in, the experience was disappointing. The dining area was filled with dirty tables, which could have been understandable if they had just finished a dinner rush. However, we waited at the sign that instructed us to wait for a server for about 5 minutes, during which four takeout parties came in and were promptly helped at the cashier area, while we were not even acknowledged. Thinking we might be in the wrong spot, we moved to the takeout line. When it was finally our turn, we were told we had to go back to the first sign to wait. After another 10 minutes of being ignored, a large group came in, and a female server immediately greeted them. Even the group noticed we had been waiting first and pointed it out. Yet the server didn't even glance at us, instead walking away to clean a table for their reservation. With my background in service, I try not to be overly critical, but this was appalling. The aromas in the restaurant smelled amazing, but the lack of basic acknowledgment or respect completely turned me off. With so many other outstanding Thai restaurants nearby, I won't be giving Fav Bistro another chance. read more

The service was very strange from the moment we walked in. First, they barely acknowledged our existence and then when we all were seated were super slow to take our order, the food took forever to come, then we never saw the waitress again. It got to the point to where we cleared our own table. I have been ordering take out rather often as of late, in an effort to support small and local businesses. It's been a lot of burgers and such, though, and craving something different that I couldn't prepare at home, I made my way to Fav Bistro, longtime resident of my bookmark list (Sister restaurants Chabaar and Tea Rose Diner are already favorites). I reviewed the menu online, and then called to place my order. The fellow I spoke to was nice enough, but seemed to struggle when putting each dish into their system. When I asked for pork with my soup, after an awkward silence following the declaration of "I just can't find pork on here..." (Even though it was a clear option on their website) I offered that I guessed I could have chicken instead. He estimated just under an hour for it to be ready, and we arrived right on the dot. The makeshift curbside pick-up area is pretty dingy looking (like, just take a few hours to refresh the paint and pull the rampant weeds). I curbed my judgement as all restaurants have been forced to make do with what is available, and with little to no planning. It seemed like an easy fix, though, and left a bit to be desired. I gave my name, and they brought the food directly the car about five minutes later. Back home, everything was well packaged and still hot. We had the following: Curry Puffs - Why are curry puffs so good?! Why don't I eat them every day? Fav's predominately feature lovely tender squash. The accompanying cucumber sauce is a sort of sweet and sour vinegar with bits of (you guessed it) cucumber along with carrots and onions. It is a delight, and just the foil required for fried dough. Tom Kar (Thai Coconut Soup) - The broth is beautiful: rich, creamy, sweet, and slightly spicy. Near as thick as a curry. Slivered swaths of coconut flesh keep friends with crisp tender carrots coins and numerous button mushrooms. I found myself wishing for more vegetables, and in the future, would request a side of steamed veggies to supplement (as I usually do when ordering curry at Anny's other restaurants). This was still delicious as a leftover the next day, though the fish sauce, or whatever seafood-based seasoning is in the broth, was much more noticeable. This is a family size portion, and came in two large carry out containers. My husband had cashew nut stir fry, which I only sampled, but it was tasty, with generous beef and lots of crisp tender fresh vegetables. Both of our orders included plentiful sides of rice. I love the creative menu options, blending Thai with myriad other cuisines, resulting in unexpected entrees like Steak Massaman Poutine, Shrimp and Grits, fish tacos, and crepes (that's right, there's a whole bunch of breakfast dishes, too!). My only real complaint is that the prices felt about 20% too high. I wonder if dining in, it might feel more appropriate. On the other hand, yeah, my soup was twenty bucks, but it also made two very filling meals. Overall, a pleasant experience, and I would return. read more

Slow service and upset tums :( The good reviews and charming atmosphere promised a great dining experience, unfortunately I didn't have one. I imagine COVID has hit this business hard, when we walked in the place was deserted. There was no staff to greet us, but we heard people talking in the kitchen and decided to wait. We located some menus and after a while a gentleman saw us when he came out with a takeout order and seated us. We were the only customers, but service was slow throughout the meal. We ordered the Chicken Pho, Pad Woon Sen, and Grilled Chicken, as well as a Thai Iced coffee. Everything but the Pho arrived in takeout containers. The food was good, aside from the chicken being cold - it didn't look like it was just made - the kitchen warmed up the same dish after we requested a new one. The portions were sizable, but I felt the meal was pricey for the experience we had and level of service we got. I thought the iced coffee was so delicious I ordered one for myself as we were leaving, it's very strong - the flavor reminds me very much of Coffee Rio hard candies. Unfortunately the coffee left us both feeling ill immediately after and for the rest of the day; being a hard-core coffee drinker and enjoying many other Thai iced coffees in the past with no issues, I have to assume something in our drinks may have been spoiled. read more

My. Mind. Is. BLOWN. Wow. Wow. Wow! I've had Thai/ Vietnamese food in MANY places. I've searched high and low for the best in my area and the places I visit. Well, stop searching people. I FOUND IT. This is the Fav to my new FAVorite Thai and Vietnamese eateries. Tonight we ate as a group of three and ordered four dishes and left with half of every dish as the servings are very generous. I am unsure of the name of one of our dishes, but we also ate Thai Coconut Soup (served in a real coconut!) , Massumum Curry w/ tofu (my FAVorite) and Pho w/ beef. Without a drip of embarrassment, the first bite of food created a reaction out of myself that I have not felt in a long time. I dropped my cutlery along with my jaw after the first bite of Thai Coconut soup. After that it was all moans and curse words in delight. Located on the Far East Side, this quaint little restaurant shares a parking lot with Pig & A Jelly Jar. The layout feels open with wide windows and lots of sunlight that shines through. They serve Thai food and American brunch. I recall coming here once before a long while ago and this is the 2nd time I've been here now. The first was for dinner and now for brunch. The staff is very polite. We were given lots of time to look over the menu and make a decision. I ordered the Open Face Avocado Tomato Melt and I did enjoy the multi grain bread and fresh avocado, however, I was not very happy with the square of cheese on one side and then shredded cheese on the other. I felt like having the square of cheese made it look so basic and I could have made this at home. It didn't taste bad, but it wasn't memorable either. I also ordered the coconut pancake as a sweet dessert after and it was okay. Again, not too memorable. My cousins tried the Thai omelette and had inquired if it was similar to banh xeo (Vietnamese omelette) and was told "No." When the food came out, it was very similar to banh xeo. Maybe they didn't consider it comparable but, it was very similar! I also ordered a Bloody Mary and i enjoyed it with the spicy kick! They did include one stick of asparagus. I'm really upset about the quality and serving sizes when you order for delivery. I ordered the drunken noodles and the portion was MUCH smaller than if you dine in. The green beans were expensive for how little you get and the popcorn tofu didn't even seem to have tofu in it, just breading and it was cold! The worst part is I spent $40.00!!! (Before tip for the delivery). I'm shocked at how low quality some of the food was for how expensive it is for basic items. Especially because whenever I dine in the food is amazing. The food was really good and pretty unique compared to most of the Thai restaurants in Utah. We drove quite a ways to get their pineapple fried rice in a pineapple shell, but also enjoyed their other offerings. The pumpkin curry puffs were delicious (make them bigger please!) and I enjoyed the waterfall salad. The garlic green beans were also really good (though a tad underdone for our liking.) My husband got massaman poutine fries which were an interesting twist and came in a huge serving. The waitress who helped us was attentive and the food came out fast. 4 stars because the food did seem to be on the more expensive end for Thai food and didn't seem different enough to warrant the significant price. Amazing, delicious, Thai food, right in Holladay. I live up the street and finally decided to give it a try. It's a little pricey Thai food, but so good! We had to try a little of everything, that's how I roll. Pineapple fried rice - so flavorful, with shrimp and perfectly cooked rice, highly recommend! Pad Thai wrapped in an egg shell with chicken and shrimp. Again, we loved it! So delicious!! Green curry with chicken - everyone's favorite. Sweet and sour chicken - yummy. Mix the curry and the sweet and sour together, and you get an explosion of flavor in your mouth. We got a seafood dish, maybe pad char seafood?? Love their food and service. We normally pickup takeout, but the indoor or outdoor patio seating is excellent. We normally order a pad Thai, spring rolls, and one of the curries. The house-made kombucha is crisp and refreshing. The lard nar and pad ke mao are also great items. We love buying their curry pastes and the red Thai hot sauce. FAVorite place for many and it spiked my interest. Been looking at this location for a while but until now I finally got a chance to go. When walking in to fav bistro it seemed very fancy. Beautiful interior design - fancy with a bit of old school chic if I would say. There wasn't a hostess when we went. The waiter just sat us. I guess it's not that fancy esp with it being dinner time. The place wasn't as pack as I thought it would be as well with the high ratings. The food here was good. I just wish there was a heat scale for us to chose from. I ordered a bunch of food but wish they would ask me if I wAnt hot, medium or mild like a typical Thai place. Well they didn't and trying to get service to get some hot sauce or chili powder is just ridiculous. I think I saw a different waiter every blue moon. Now to the food...the food was good with the lack of heat. There is the typical Thai stuff but then there is also a fusion unique twist at the back. I ordered the pumpkin curry puffs, pineapple fried rice and the young coconut chicken curry dish at the back. The pumpkin curry puff was excellent except for presentation. It looked like fried wontons instead of a puff. The stuffing was delicious. Pineapple fried rice had a beautiful presentation and excellent taste. It came out with half a pineapple as a bowl and some slices of pineapple. The pineapple in the rice was nice and sweet as well. The young coconut chicken curry came in two sections. Half in a young coconut and the other half in a bowl. The only think pecking for me was a bit of heat. I had to add some chili powder to it and it was excellent after. I wouldn't be as disappointed with this place if it actually matches with what it want to be. It looks fancy but I guess keeping up with fixings was terrible. The table I got was overly wobbly.
