Am I the only guy who gets weirded out when going to a burlesque show, with their spouse also present? "Don't worry honey, it's okay to look, and also throw money at the half-naked women! I promise you won't get in trouble!" Uh-huh. ;) Alright, I digress. Awkwardness aside, Prohibition is a really great place to enjoy a classy dinner, where the meat is served on a place AND on stage, and the cheesecake comes with the price of admission! Speaking of admission, as my wife and I were guests, being shepherded along by our friend, I cannot recall exactly what the "cover charge" was (not much, if I remember correctly...less than $20 for two?), and if reservations are *required*, I cannot say for certain, but I would say they are *recommended* at the very least, because our showtime was packed. Anyway, once paid, you are escorted through a secret bookcase door (SLC residents sure do love their speakeasies, don't they?), and into the dining hall and saloon, where you're soon to have your socks knocked off...well, someone's clothes are coming off, anyway! We were given a table that I dismissively thought was tucked away pretty far in the back and out of the way, but it ended up being one of the best seats in the house, as the table where the performers gathered, prepped, and returned to was just adjacent to us, so we were about as up close and personal as you can get, without getting yourselves arrested. Each of the dancers brought their own style, flair, and wardrobe to their performances, which were spirited and energetic, and a touch racy, without devolving into outright debauchery. It may be an (18+? 21+?) venue, but alcohol restrictions aside, I wouldn't hesitate to take older, more mature teens to a show with similar content. We ordered a smattering of smaller dishes, as we weren't particularly hungry, but the Mishima Wagyu tacos were fantastic (as you would expect), as was the Fedora Fin (Za'atar-crusted ahi tuna), and all of our cocktails. As the show is timed event with multiple performances per night, both food and bev are fired out of the kitchen/bar faster than the bullets from a Tommy Gun, but with far better accuracy. The whole operation here was honestly very impressive, from start to finish. Coming from a progressive city like Portland, it's always struck me a little odd that places that, by reputation, strike you as more conservative end up having some of the best, most wild entertainment venues, that you only wish you had back home. Prohibition is one of these places that I would rather see in my downtown, instead of the litany of seedy strip joints pushing for maximum titilation, but with only a fraction of the class and sophistication. Will never return. Would rate 0 stars if I could. My father and I met my mother and sister here as they finished their meal. I walked in with a 1/4 cup of starbucks I was finishing. After about 2 mins and getting our drink order taken... a gentleman with a very feminine voice smothered the entire table and *snatched* my cup out of my hand. He then proceeds to *snatch* my sister's water bottle off the table (after it's been sitting on the table for their entire meal) and literally starts TALKING SHIT telling us we can't be there. He's standing there with our drinks in his hand telling us we were welcome to leave even though we just sat down and ordered drinks ???? I understand Utah has different laws but that does not excuse his behavior. He was antagonizing this situation telling us to "do something" like he wanted to fight while i'm trying to make sure my mom and sister are okay and the bill was paid Although I guess you can't expect much from a man in his 30's who's still a hostess not even a bartender or server. (what are you doing with your life bro?) His manager came to rectify the situation but he stood behind her the entire time telling me to fight him. She looked so embarrassed. If he has personal issues management should think seriously about firing this gentleman. Another reason I think we received this treatment is because myself, sister, and mom are all white complexion skin color while my dad is Samoan and brown. We have been here a handful of times for brunch. Walking into the "antique shop" was fun, and you can purchase the antiques! We had more fun checking out the antiques than we should have at a speakeasy. We always have great service, fun hosts, and exceptional food! The chicken and waffles was good, the chicken was definitely the best part. The Cobb salad was very fresh, the blue cheese crumbles weren't overwhelming the perfect addition to the salad. The thick bacon in the salad was delicious, The tomatoes weren't ripe, and they lacked flavor. The chicken breast on the salad was grilled to perfection, it was so good! This place is quite the experience. You walk in through a small shop that has a hidden entrance to the speakeasy once you check in with the "clerk". The lighting is dim in the best way, very cute ambiance with colorful stained glass lamps and Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Our waitress, Natalia, was very friendly and helpful. She helped me pick a drink that was SO GOOD. I have been coming to Prohibition since it first opened and was surprised to realize that I actually have not reviewed them yet! I have visited for their nighttime burlesque shows and for dinner, and while the experience is still great, I would return again and again for their brunch! It has remained one of my favorite brunch spots for a couple years now, so when I visited recently and realized that they had changed their brunch menu, my interest was piqued! In fact, I was almost nervous because I am a creature of habit when it comes to menu favorites and their Huevos Rancheros (which I LOVEDDDD) was removed from the menu. I anxiously ordered something new off the menu and to my excitement, it turned out to be one of the absolute BEST brunch items I have ever had the chance to eat. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits and my husband ordered the Crab Benedict. Shrimp & Grits is all-around one of my favorite dishes, so was incredibly excited to try this new menu item. I am not exaggerating by saying this Shrimp & Grits is now my #1 favorite Shrimp & Grits I have had the pleasure of enjoying. The shrimp were seared well, and the flavor of the grits was unlike any other grits I've had before. The pineapple chutney was so unexpected and I was unsure if it made sense to me for the dish to have it at first - I was very wrong! It created a perfect balance with the savory flavors from the grits and shrimp. My husband loved the lump crab cake on his benedict and said the flavor on the hollandaise was delicious, mentioning that the cilantro was a nice touch! The benedict also came with the Kale & Quinoa hashbrowns which he was apprehensive about at first, but ended up enjoying thoroughly. I tried a bit of it and it had a nice crunch to it. Additionally, I was still pregnant at the time, so I did not indulge in a cocktail, but they satisfied my request for a combination of passionfruit and orange juice - it was perfectly refreshing! My husband enjoyed his meal with a Bloody Mary on the side, and he absolutely loves it when his Bloody Mary is practically a meal on its own given that it has so many toppings. We ended the meal with an order of Benny's Beignets which is accompanied by a blueberry lavender jam. I will say that I have had many beignets before and texturally, these were a little crunchy/tough for my liking. With that being said, the blueberry lavender jam was exceptionally delicious and unique! Great job making such successful changes to the menu! This could have easily been a moment of disappointment for a highly favored menu, but instead, the new menu really hit it out of the park. Cool atmosphere, and a great selection of cocktails. My husband and I stopped by for drinks after a movie, and were happily surprised to find such an interesting spot in the area. Service was attentive. My only complaint was that after asking our waiter for a recommendation between two cocktails, he suggested another one without warning me about the price. At $35, it was quite more pricey than the average $18 on the menu, including the ones I had originally picked. I love speak easy's! This one is a gem in Murray, UT next to fashion place mall. Take a trip back to the 1920's and enjoy vintage decor and vibes. Even the waiters/waitresses are dappered-up in old-style clothing. Makes for a cool experience. I ordered the Winter Mist wine flight, because why not have a little tasting adventure? My other half went for a Rhône red blend. We shared a few appetizers: lamb street tacos, venison bruschetta, and French onion soup with a cheese pull worthy of slow-motion video. Everything tasted great--unique flavors, well-executed, and fun to share. As for the wine flight... none of them were quite my thing. I wouldn't order any by the glass, but the tasting experience itself was still a good time. I'm a wine nerd, so it was fun to compare notes--even if my notes were mostly "nope." We stayed for about an hour, had great conversation (with each other and the bartender), and felt totally recharged and ready for our evening plans. I've been here before for dinner and even caught a burlesque show or two--never had a bad time. Bottom line: Perfect for cocktails, small plates, and a little pre-show glam. We visited on a Friday night about 530p without reservations and fortunately got a table about 20 minutes later. There was a $20 per person cover charge since they would have live entertainment. It was about 30 minute burlesque show about 7/7:30pm. We finished dinner before the show and almost left which would've made the cover charge a total waste. Having seen the show, I'd would've preferred to come on a regular evening without a cover charge. Each performance is a few minutes long. I'd prefer to pay more for a full show than a few minutes during dinner at $20 per person. Just my opinion. The drinks were the highlight for us. There is a large drink menu and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered tacos to share and burgers. Tacos were excellent. Well made and seasoned and good value as well. They were so good I'd probably opt for double order of tacos over the burgers we had. The burger was HUGE. It can easily be shared by two people with some apps/salad for a full meal. One major down side for me was the burger was overcooked and tasted dry. I would not order again. I was for medium and it was probably medium well to well done. For the price point I'd expect it cooked close to the temp ordered. The entrance and waiting area are cool. Once you go inside it's like a pretty standard restaurant. I expected more a bar ambiance where people socialized. It was more like a standard restaurant bar where people at tables stay seated and those seated at the bar also stay seated. What a great place. Starting with the entrance. No clue there was a restaurant behind that wall. The service was simply phenomenal, from great suggestions to attention. Food was on point as well. I had a great meal paired with a great wine. They had live music at the time of my visit, and given the intimate nature of this hidden place, it really elevated the experience. We went for a girls birthday brunch with 7 of us. This was my first time here and I loved walking through a hidden bookshelf door to get into the restaurant. My friend and I split the French toast and biscuits and gravy because we couldn't decide. They were both delicious. I also got a side of sweet potato fries and they did not disappoint! Wow what an experience, walking in you see a gorgeous collection of vintage pieces. Then, a bookcase opens up and voila, you are transported to a different world and such a unique experience. Wendy was sweet and took very good care of us. My friend tried ordering the poutine fries, but was dismayed to learned they no longer served them. I ordered the Mob Cob and a St Supery Sauv Blanc, she ordered French onion soup. Caleb checked on our table and my friend shared her dismay about the poutine fries being discontinued. I genuinely prefer bars that have room to sit, walk around, offer food, and are quiet enough to have conversations in and Prohibition (at least on a Sunday night) offers all of those things! My friends and I stopped in for a couple of drinks (and maybe drank a little too much, haha) and the host (in a Hufflepuff sweatshirt!) was so, so sweet and so patient with us and willing to seat us even though her section was full. I've never been to Prohibition before my most recent visit, so I was enthralled with the speakeasy aesthetic (I was expecting it with a name like Prohibition, but it's different when you see it in person!). I felt underdressed for the occasion! The bartenders were dressed as flappers and they took such good care of me and my friends. I ordered the cauliflower to share and it was really good! I would definitely order it again (but bar food is expensive). The only signature cocktail I had that evening was the Sakura and I liked it a lot, but unfortunately the bar didn't have a whole lot of options and flavors of liqueur available. (They didn't have the flavors for a Mexican candy shot, so we just shot straight Tito's.) Overall, I had a lovely experience and I will definitely have to stop back in for one of their events.
