We came here for dinner on a Wednesday. We got here pretty early, so it wasn't very busy. We had reservations but would not have needed them. Our table had old school office chairs without wheels. They were comfortable, but not great for getting up and down. We took an Uber, but there is a small parking lot. The lot is shared with other business, but they all seemed closed by time we got there. I got the Tommy gun tacos and my wife got the artichoke chicken pasta. We also got the Cuban sandwich to go. We came for brunch! They serve brunch in the day time, I had come here recently before but we weren't able to get in because my friend didnt have her ID. They will scan your ID, and take you through a book case door. The inside of this restaurant is gorgeous!!! Really takes you back to the 1920's. For brunch we ordered the chicken fried steak, chilaquiles, french toast, and the beignets to share. I got a bloody mary as well. The chicken fried steak was great! I love ordering this dish at restaurants because its not something I usually eat. The beignets came with a jelly that had a slight kick which was very tasty. I tried the chilaquiles, I will probably order this next time, the green chili verde sauce was super yummy and the pork was very tender. While in town overnight I was looking for a speakeasy spot and a quick search on Yelp led me to Prohibition. The decor was spot on including the disguised door that leads back into the bar restaurant area. The servers are all dressed in 1920's style clothing, super friendly and attentive and great a recommending food/drinks based on preferences. I ordered an old fashioned which immediately prompted our server to recommend their Facts and Figures cocktail which is comprised of Templeton Rye, Courvoisier VSOP, Fig Demerara Syrup & Black Walnut bitters and when the drinks came out, I immediately wanted to swap mine with my friend's lol. Food wise we started with the nachos topped with chicken and it was good, the chips were not traditional style but good and there was a good balance of cheese and toppings throughout. Overall ok but I would have preferred it if they offered non-traditional style appetizers. For dinner I had the Smokehouse Burger and my friend has the Cuban sandwich. Both were delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked, topped with peppered bacon and had a rich Smokey flavor which really hit the spot! The Cuban was also really good. Overall it was a pleasant experience, great vibe, great drinks and excellent service. I will be back next time in town and plan on trying their Elk chops!! read more

TLDR: Yummy food, super fancy and fun drinks, if you're into vintage/1920s/burlesque (even if you're not into it) you will enjoy the vibe. And food. This almost felt like getting through Leaky Cauldron (Harry Potter) cos there is a cosy library-like lobby with so many ultra cool trinkets and artefacts with a book shelf that slithers open into...not gonna spoilt it, go see for yourself. We really enjoyed the place and the service was quick and friendly, all their food and drinks recommendations were top notch. I also liked the projector playing old movies :) I tried the Big Chicken Little pasta and really liked it. Lollipop gams appetiser- tastyy. I LOVE the theme. The best part for me is the little foyer where you enter. Ambiance is pretty good and I love the antiques that are present throughout. Sometimes I review restaurant bathrooms (see previous reviews) and this one gets points for bringing the theme into the bathroom. Good job! The food... I had a lavender 75 *very good*, the french onion soup, and the cobb salad. Mostly want to comment on the soup... I don't know if this is a Utah thing, but this was lacking flavor for me. I think maybe it was made without the wine/cognac. There was also no bread at the bottom (just a crust of bread served with the bowl). It was passable, but not amazing. The cobb was good... I ordered it with steak but got steak and chicken which was OK. Additional dressing was needed, but the veggies were fresh and I was overall happy with my selection. Nice place. We were seated right at the time of our reservation and our server was nice and super attentive to our every need. I ordered the "When Figs Fly" salad and my husband ordered the "Six Toe Cuban Panini". After a short wait and a couple deliciously crafted cocktails, we got our food. The fig salad had a perfect balance of tart and sweet flavors, the figs and dates complimented the goat cheese spectacularly, however I wish the serving size had been only a tad bigger as it left me feeling a little hungry. The panini, on the other hand, was one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had, worth the hefty price tag. The restaurant/bar had a very lovely vibe, hidden behind a bookcase entrance giving it the appearance of a speakeasy, and our seats happened to be right by where they perform the show. While it was a little short, it was very entertaining and quality. All the dancers were extremely talented and captivating. Overall, I'd say this is a must go in Salt Lake City, just make sure to make a reservation beforehand as it sure tends to get busy. read more

There's something absolutely romantic about a revolving bookshelf and hidden room on the other side. Perhaps it was the fantasy movies I watched as a young person that set me up for thinking that all magical places are hidden behind an unsuspecting wall, fireplace or book shelf. So when I visited Prohibition and got to see such a setup in real life, I was delighted. Once you get behind the shelf, you'll see a moody room with lots of tables and booths as well a well-stocked bar ready to make you whatever concoction you can imagine. I took the recommendation of my friend and ordered the Bourbon and the Beast. Not only is it an exquisite presentation, but it's delicious to boot. I highly recommend it. We both ended up ordering the Mob Cob salad, which we enjoyed thoroughly. I swapped out the dressing for the vinaigrette, which I did not care for. But that was totally personal taste and I like a naked salad sometimes more anyway. You'll likely find some kind of entertainment here along with the food and drinks. Stopped in for dinner recently. Love the decor and the hidden door bookshelf to enter. I was seating right away. My waitress was friendly and stopped by often to see how everything was. I ordered the smokehouse burger. This burger comes with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, pepper bacon, house slaw, lettuce and tomato with a cilantro lime aioli. I asked to hold the onions, slaw, lettuce and tomato. I'm glad I did only because the cilantro lime aioli shined through and brings this burger to another level. I wanted to order extra to dip the burger! I think this flavor might have been lost with all the other ingredients. Burger comes with several options of fries, I chose sweet potato. Everything was great. A few side notes that really doesn't effect my rating. I wasn't asked how I wanted the burger cooked. It came out medium to well done. I would have preferred medium rare to medium. Second, it is pricey at $21 and would have liked a few more pieces of the pepper bacon, it only had two small pieces. But, I can't argue with the flavor of this burger and would definitely return and order again! read more

Walking in was so awesome, you literally walk behind a hidden door behind the bookshelf. The atmosphere is so fun and the live band was a great surprise. I was in the area for work and wanted a cool place to take my team to dinner. The atmosphere wasn't disappointing. The three starts could have been five if the service and food were better. We sat right in front of the kitchen window. We saw the main cook reach up to take his cell phone down, text, and put the phone back above his head on what we believe is a shelf. All with gloves on and while cooking. The food tasted pretty bland, especially for the descriptions of the food. I had to add salt, pepper, hot sauce, and asked for extra sauce on my pasta and it was still very tasteless. The others at the table said their food was also pretty bland. The lollipop chicken wings were the best thing we had all night and had the most taste. Our waiter wasn't present much and I had to ask another two waiters for hot sauce, a refill on my water, and also to get me the check. It was very busy but not busy enough to only see the waitress when we ordered and then when we paid. I usually get the eggs Benedict but was wanting something more sweet than savory, but this was both sweet and savory actually. Perfectly cooked brioche french toast with amazing flavor, strawberries and nuts, which I usually am not a fan of nuts on stuff but this was perfect, added the crunch that was satisfying. The waitress also offered to add hash browns, so of course I did, with bacon and cheese, and OMG so delicious, had a little spice kick in there that was too die for. I also had the Passion fruit mimosa and the lavender mimosa, and of course they were delicious! If you're looking for a speakeasy charm, Prohibition is a place to add to your list. While they show on maps as a "bar" it very is much more of a sit down restaurant. You will want to make reservations in advance and make sure to ask about entertainment times so you don't miss out! Weekends do require an entry fee. We ordered the Lollipop Gams as an appetizer. These were big, saucy and flavorful. Although a little tough rather than tender. For an entree I ordered the "Beast Burger" and my partner ordered the "Smokehouse Burger," to split & try both. WOW. Big, delicious, cooked to our requested temperature and just an experience itself eating one. Paired with a side of your choice. When you go to a restaurant like Prohibition, you go for the experience. They aced the food aspect, however, I was not impressed with our server. He was quick and uninterested, setting our mood for the evening a bit off. Finally, Friday night's entertainment was a Burlesque Show and though the dancers took pride in their work, it was very amateur. I liked the atmosphere of the place; a fun speakeasy that serves delicious cocktails, food and puts on an entertaining burlesque show. We dressed up in our flapper best and they were having a Halloween themed show for the night. We tried a few drinks from the menu, the Flapper Barbie had a nice kick to it from the spicy prickly pear. They have a good food menu, including some veggie choices, which we really enjoyed the battered cauliflower and the bootlegger nachos. The staff were friendly and the waiter was attentive all night. Tried several apps like the elk and venison. Had the French onion soup and ended with the elk. Apps were killer. Soul was mediocre and elk entree was excellent. Overall the service was slow and frustrating. Second trip fewer people. Skipped the apps. Got a burger. Needed to detach my jaw to approach it. No drinks. Service was slow. This week many apps. Delivered at odd intervals. The peach and burrata toast was incredible. Had a short rib special and it was horrid. I had maybe two bites. Tasted like a wet string mop. Maybe the worst entree I've had in years. Server was oblivious because they were pushing the drinks hard again. No replacement meal not even any discussion or observation that the food was uneaten. Ended up getting beignets, which were great. Service was hugely disappointing. Apps are very consistent. 2 out of 3 ain't bad on the entrees. Service has been consistently slow to slow and poor. Drinks and food are outstanding! We havent had a single negative for anything on their menu or establishment. However, I do feel like it's worth mentioning that it is one of the highest priced cocktail menus in the valley. The Ambiance is great and by far the best thing about this restaurant. I've been here two times before and unfortunately this last was the worst of the three visits. Hamburger was over cooked and the signature drink was sold out after we ordered it. I feel like this is a common occurrence since they were sold out of a beer I ordered the last time I was here. My second visit did have the burlesque show and that was highly entertaining but definitely not for children so keep that in mind. Overall it's worth three stars for mishaps in supply, poorly cooked food, and being overpriced.
