Sad to say, I'm not quite sure what all the hype is about. We had to sit outside because the indoor dining room was fully booked for the show. The night actually started off great. Our server was funny, personable, and attentive, especially when it came to drinks and refills. Things started going downhill when I received my entree, the Poor Man's Truffle. Unfortunately, the only way this dish lived up to its name was in how little the supposedly high-quality ingredients seemed to come through. The dish itself is fairly simple, which normally isn't a bad thing when the ingredients are meant to speak for themselves. With Belper Knolle, truffle oil, pistachio pesto, tomato, fennel, and arugula, I expected something flavorful and well balanced. Instead, the entire dish tasted incredibly mild. Belper Knolle is typically a bold, salty, peppery cheese, and I could visibly see the black pepper around the edges of the thin shavings, but the flavor barely registered. I also couldn't taste the truffle oil at all. There was visible oil pooling at the bottom of the plate, but no noticeable truffle flavor. I understand pistachio pesto tends to be more subtle than a traditional basil pesto, but altogether, this dish just fell completely flat for me. The presentation didn't help either. It looked more like something that had been scooped from a pan and dropped onto the plate than a thoughtfully plated entree. When a dish misses both on flavor and presentation, that's when it becomes a real disappointment for me. I will say the gnocchi itself was cooked well, which was one of the few positives. I also tried the burger, and it was significantly better than my pasta. However, the very small sprinkle of bacon was a little baffling considering it was an additional upcharge. Where the night really went downhill was at the end of the meal. I had been excited to try the beignets because that isn't a dessert I see on menus very often. Our entree plates were cleared, and then we waited about 20 minutes before our server returned and asked whether we were ready for the check. Dessert wasn't mentioned, and by that point our table was tired of waiting, so we decided to skip it and asked for our checks. Then our server disappeared for another 30 minutes. We eventually had to flag down a hostess who was seating another table and let her know that we were still waiting for the check. About five minutes later, our server finally returned and casually explained how "crazy" the night had gotten because of the show. I understand restaurants get busy, but the apology felt very dismissive after we had waited nearly an hour from finishing our entrees to finally receiving the check. It genuinely felt like our table had simply been forgotten. I also want to add that I tend to hold restaurants like this to a higher standard. I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for." If I'm eating at a fast-food spot or somewhere inexpensive and casual, there's only so much room to complain. But when a restaurant has prices like this, highlights premium ingredients on the menu, and presents itself as a more elevated dining experience, I think that naturally opens the food and service up to more criticism. At that price point, I expect the quality, presentation, and overall experience to reflect what I'm paying for. My final takeaway is that maybe I ordered the wrong dish. Pesto is one of my favorite things, so I almost always want to give a pesto-based dish a try. Unfortunately, Prohibition's pesto gnocchi was not it for me. I also saw that they describe themselves as a scratch kitchen using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, which I don't necessarily doubt. What confused me was how so many ingredients that should have distinct flavors somehow tasted like almost nothing. If your goal is interesting drinks and a fun show, this is probably still a place worth considering. Since we sat outside, I can't speak on the show part, but it seems to be a big hit. Food-wise, though, it missed the mark for me.
Am I the only guy who gets weirded out when going to a burlesque show, with their spouse also present? "Don't worry honey, it's okay to look, and also throw money at the half-naked women! I promise you won't get in trouble!" Uh-huh. ;) Alright, I digress. Awkwardness aside, Prohibition is a really great place to enjoy a classy dinner, where the meat is served on a place AND on stage, and the cheesecake comes with the price of admission! Speaking of admission, as my wife and I were guests, being shepherded along by our friend, I cannot recall exactly what the "cover charge" was (not much, if I remember correctly...less than $20 for two?), and if reservations are *required*, I cannot say for certain, but I would say they are *recommended* at the very least, because our showtime was packed. Anyway, once paid, you are escorted through a secret bookcase door (SLC residents sure do love their speakeasies, don't they?), and into the dining hall and saloon, where you're soon to have your socks knocked off...well, someone's clothes are coming off, anyway! We were given a table that I dismissively thought was tucked away pretty far in the back and out of the way, but it ended up being one of the best seats in the house, as the table where the performers gathered, prepped, and returned to was just adjacent to us, so we were about as up close and personal as you can get, without getting yourselves arrested. Each of the dancers brought their own style, flair, and wardrobe to their performances, which were spirited and energetic, and a touch racy, without devolving into outright debauchery. It may be an (18+? 21+?) venue, but alcohol restrictions aside, I wouldn't hesitate to take older, more mature teens to a show with similar content. We ordered a smattering of smaller dishes, as we weren't particularly hungry, but the Mishima Wagyu tacos were fantastic (as you would expect), as was the Fedora Fin (Za'atar-crusted ahi tuna), and all of our cocktails. As the show is timed event with multiple performances per night, both food and bev are fired out of the kitchen/bar faster than the bullets from a Tommy Gun, but with far better accuracy. The whole operation here was honestly very impressive, from start to finish. Coming from a progressive city like Portland, it's always struck me a little odd that places that, by reputation, strike you as more conservative end up having some of the best, most wild entertainment venues, that you only wish you had back home. Prohibition is one of these places that I would rather see in my downtown, instead of the litany of seedy strip joints pushing for maximum titilation, but with only a fraction of the class and sophistication. Prohibition is good, clean fun, masquerading as something illicit, which is the heart of what makes it work so well.
Quiet restaurant set up like a speakeasy. Service is quick. Prices are reasonable. The food is good. They're busier on the weekends but the wait is never too bad. Definitely a go to brunch spot!
I'd been here once before for dinner and had such a wonderful experience. I've heard great things about the brunch and never had the chance to try it for myself until now and wow! I will say that most of the menu items seem to be on the heavier side so I opted for the wagyu steak salad and I am so glad I did, it was phenomenal! I love a good salad but I find that most salads at restaurants aren't anything to write home about--that was not the case here. This was one of the best salads I have ever had. My favorite part was the sheer amount of steak sprinkled on top and that it was all pre-cut in the perfect little bite-sized morsels and cooked to perfection. AMAZING! The only "complaint" I have is that I personally prefer a vinaigrette that's more vinegary and less sweet, but I enjoyed this one nonetheless. My sister's chicken and waffles looked amazing and the bite I had was delicious. Our sever was very nice, food came out quicker than expected, and the food runner was a sweetheart too. And you simply cannot beat the speakeasy vibe, so fun! We had an absolutely fantastic experience and I will be returning.
We have been here a handful of times for brunch. Walking into the "antique shop" was fun, and you can purchase the antiques! We had more fun checking out the antiques than we should have at a speakeasy. We always have great service, fun hosts, and exceptional food! The chicken and waffles was good, the chicken was definitely the best part. The Cobb salad was very fresh, the blue cheese crumbles weren't overwhelming the perfect addition to the salad. The thick bacon in the salad was delicious, The tomatoes weren't ripe, and they lacked flavor. The chicken breast on the salad was grilled to perfection, it was so good! The french toast was so delicious , you have to get the French toast!
The restaurant is only for adults because they serve alcohol. I like the restaurant atmosphere. The foods were very good. The cauliflower appetizer was surprisingly amazing. My pasta dish was very good as well. The service was excellent.. love everything about it. Will come back again.
This place is quite the experience. You walk in through a small shop that has a hidden entrance to the speakeasy once you check in with the "clerk". The lighting is dim in the best way, very cute ambiance with colorful stained glass lamps and Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Our waitress, Natalia, was very friendly and helpful. She helped me pick a drink that was SO GOOD. We ordered: - "on the hook" appetizer - $19 - "fedora fin" ahi salad - $19 - "the patsy burger" - $28 - "pep in your step" pasta - $34 - "the gatsby" cocktail - $16 - "whiskey & wonder" - $19 - "saloon macaroon" - $17 Everything tasted delicious. The portions were pretty small, especially for the pasta. However, this feels pretty expected because you're not coming here for the portion sizes. You're coming for the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the speakeasy experience. Live music some nights of the week (Wed - Sat? Don't quote me) I will definitely be back!
Came for music, but jazz was not jazz, so a bit disappointed with that. It was more folk music. Usually come for blues, think I'll stick to that. The drinks made up for the music and saved the night. Prohibition is always a great stop! Their drinks are amazing and the vibe is immaculate. We love their Tommy gun tacos but got the fish tacos this time and they were also delicious! Highly recommend either of them. This is a great spot for date night!
Came back here for my birthday. Man, this place does not disappoint. The food tastes immaculate, the servers are so professional and checked in on us quite frequently, and the ambiance is so welcoming and comfortable. We were there late enough to get some live music too, which is a great time. Definitely one of the top 3 best food spots in SLC in my opinion. Will def be coming back.
Cool atmosphere, and a great selection of cocktails. My husband and I stopped by for drinks after a movie, and were happily surprised to find such an interesting spot in the area. Service was attentive. My only complaint was that after asking our waiter for a recommendation between two cocktails, he suggested another one without warning me about the price. At $35, it was quite more pricey than the average $18 on the menu, including the ones I had originally picked. That's unfortunate because based on that experience, I don't think I'd go back.

I genuinely prefer bars that have room to sit, walk around, offer food, and are quiet enough to have conversations in and Prohibition (at least on a Sunday night) offers all of those things! My friends and I stopped in for a couple of drinks (and maybe drank a little too much, haha) and the host (in a Hufflepuff sweatshirt!) was so, so sweet and so patient with us and willing to seat us even though her section was full. I've never been to Prohibition before my most recent visit, so I was enthralled with the speakeasy aesthetic (I was expecting it with a name like Prohibition, but it's different when you see it in person!). I felt underdressed for the occasion! The bartenders were dressed as flappers and they took such good care of me and my friends. I ordered the cauliflower to share and it was really good! I would definitely order it again (but bar food is expensive). The only signature cocktail I had that evening was the Sakura and I liked it a lot, but unfortunately the bar didn't have a whole lot of options and flavors of liqueur available. (They didn't have the flavors for a Mexican candy shot, so we just shot straight Tito's.) Overall, I had a lovely experience and I will definitely have to stop back in for one of their events. Fun little speakeasy in SLC. Visited on a Tuesday night and it was oddly packed. There was quite a wait to get in and our party of 10 had to be seated separately. This place has such a cool vibe! The entrance to get into the dining area is really clever, and the ambiance is quite cozy with its warm low-level lighting. For drinks, we ordered Eliot's Mess - highly recommend if you are looking for a nonalcoholic drink! It had a really nice, non-artificial passionfruit flavor. For food, we ordered the When Figs Fly salad and Three Spot Tacos - both great vegetarian options. We also got the apple cobbler for dessert, and I'd only recommend it if you have a big sweet tooth - we found it a bit too sweet for our liking. read more
From the moment you walk into the "antique store" you know you're in for something special. The hidden doors open and you're brought inside prohibition. A 1920's themed restaurant. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between elegant and inviting, with dim lighting, eclectic decor, and an attentive staff ready to answer your questions. The menu is a unique and well thought out. I had Hammer and saws it is a elk loin with Gorgonzola served over fettuccini. It was delicious! . The craft cocktails are beautiful and very delicious. The attention to detail in presentation made Service was impeccable throughout the evening--attentive but never intrusive. It hurts me to do this but my past two visits to Prohibition have been super disappointing. The service is great, the ambiance is fun, but the food has been off. There was a clear lack of flavor--no salt on the fries, no bold flavors in the nacho cheese, no sauce on the burger, and more. Everything we ate was under seasoned or poorly prepared. They never offer condiments even though the fries (specifically) desperately need a fry sauce or something. But despite all of that, I still love this place. I really hope my next visit is a five star experience. read more

We came on a Monday afternoon and were seated quickly! The speakeasy doorway is a delightful touch. Service was friendly and dressed to match the theme. My mimosa wasn't spectacular but my french toast was utterly delightful! (I didn't even try my husband's chicken and biscuits but he said it was good.) Like many others I'd caution you to remember this is a bar that serves food not a restaurant with alcohol, be patient with your servers and enjoy the experience. When in SLC, this is a must but no need to go multiple times. The atmosphere is so on point and the cocktails are over the top with the presentation and selection. The drinks themselves are quite pricey and a small pour. The food is good but not outstanding for the price. We had checked the menu out online and assumed the show price was built into the food and drink price. We were mistaken. There is a $20 cover per person at the front door to enter the secret door to the restaurant and show. We were a bit disappointed with the show which lasted about 20 minutes but we were so glad we had this experience. read more

We came here for dinner on a Wednesday. We got here pretty early, so it wasn't very busy. We had reservations but would not have needed them. Our table had old school office chairs without wheels. They were comfortable, but not great for getting up and down. We took an Uber, but there is a small parking lot. The lot is shared with other business, but they all seemed closed by time we got there. I got the Tommy gun tacos and my wife got the artichoke chicken pasta. We also got the Cuban sandwich to go. We came for brunch! They serve brunch in the day time, I had come here recently before but we weren't able to get in because my friend didnt have her ID. They will scan your ID, and take you through a book case door. The inside of this restaurant is gorgeous!!! Really takes you back to the 1920's. For brunch we ordered the chicken fried steak, chilaquiles, french toast, and the beignets to share. I got a bloody mary as well. The chicken fried steak was great! I love ordering this dish at restaurants because its not something I usually eat. The beignets came with a jelly that had a slight kick which was very tasty. I tried the chilaquiles, I will probably order this next time, the green chili verde sauce was super yummy and the pork was very tender. I want to come back on Friday and Saturday night to watch the burlesque show! read more

While in town overnight I was looking for a speakeasy spot and a quick search on Yelp led me to Prohibition. The decor was spot on including the disguised door that leads back into the bar restaurant area. The servers are all dressed in 1920's style clothing, super friendly and attentive and great a recommending food/drinks based on preferences. I ordered an old fashioned which immediately prompted our server to recommend their Facts and Figures cocktail which is comprised of Templeton Rye, Courvoisier VSOP, Fig Demerara Syrup & Black Walnut bitters and when the drinks came out, I immediately wanted to swap mine with my friend's lol. Food wise we started with the nachos topped with chicken and it was good, the chips were not traditional style but good and there was a good balance of cheese and toppings throughout. Overall ok but I would have preferred it if they offered non-traditional style appetizers. For dinner I had the Smokehouse Burger and my friend has the Cuban sandwich. Both were delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked, topped with peppered bacon and had a rich Smokey flavor which really hit the spot! The Cuban was also really good. Overall it was a pleasant experience, great vibe, great drinks and excellent service. I will be back next time in town and plan on trying their Elk chops!! read more

I LOVE the theme. The best part for me is the little foyer where you enter. Ambiance is pretty good and I love the antiques that are present throughout. Sometimes I review restaurant bathrooms (see previous reviews) and this one gets points for bringing the theme into the bathroom. Good job! The food... I had a lavender 75 *very good*, the french onion soup, and the cobb salad. Mostly want to comment on the soup... I don't know if this is a Utah thing, but this was lacking flavor for me. I think maybe it was made without the wine/cognac. There was also no bread at the bottom (just a crust of bread served with the bowl). It was passable, but not amazing. The cobb was good... I ordered it with steak but got steak and chicken which was OK. Additional dressing was needed, but the veggies were fresh and I was overall happy with my selection. Nice place. Not a must for me, but wouldn't mind doing again. read more
The idea of a speakeasy is a fun concept. The staff were friendly and helpful. The brunch menu was plentiful with choices. I had the stake and eggs ( cooked to perfection) and my wife had the vegetarian breakfast (also a delight). Overall with the price and will definitely be going back. read more

If you can only dine at one restaurant in SLC, make it Prohibition. The atmosphere has a lively vibe with the 1920's feel and the live jazz music. The menu, so many amazing choices, the cuisine is a work of art. You can tell the ownership and kitchen staff take pride in their creations. If I could come back every week I could. There's something absolutely romantic about a revolving bookshelf and hidden room on the other side. Perhaps it was the fantasy movies I watched as a young person that set me up for thinking that all magical places are hidden behind an unsuspecting wall, fireplace or book shelf. So when I visited Prohibition and got to see such a setup in real life, I was delighted. Once you get behind the shelf, you'll see a moody room with lots of tables and booths as well a well-stocked bar ready to make you whatever concoction you can imagine. I took the recommendation of my friend and ordered the Bourbon and the Beast. Not only is it an exquisite presentation, but it's delicious to boot. I highly recommend it. We both ended up ordering the Mob Cob salad, which we enjoyed thoroughly. I swapped out the dressing for the vinaigrette, which I did not care for. But that was totally personal taste and I like a naked salad sometimes more anyway. You'll likely find some kind of entertainment here along with the food and drinks. The particular night we went, it was live blues music. Other nights they have karaoke or burlesque. I'm excited to become a regular and check out all the events! read more
Stopped in for dinner recently. Love the decor and the hidden door bookshelf to enter. I was seating right away. My waitress was friendly and stopped by often to see how everything was. I ordered the smokehouse burger. This burger comes with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, pepper bacon, house slaw, lettuce and tomato with a cilantro lime aioli. I asked to hold the onions, slaw, lettuce and tomato. I'm glad I did only because the cilantro lime aioli shined through and brings this burger to another level. I wanted to order extra to dip the burger! I think this flavor might have been lost with all the other ingredients. Burger comes with several options of fries, I chose sweet potato. Everything was great. A few side notes that really doesn't effect my rating. I wasn't asked how I wanted the burger cooked. It came out medium to well done. I would have preferred medium rare to medium. Second, it is pricey at $21 and would have liked a few more pieces of the pepper bacon, it only had two small pieces. But, I can't argue with the flavor of this burger and would definitely return and order again! read more

Walking in was so awesome, you literally walk behind a hidden door behind the bookshelf. The atmosphere is so fun and the live band was a great surprise. I was in the area for work and wanted a cool place to take my team to dinner. The atmosphere wasn't disappointing. The three starts could have been five if the service and food were better. We sat right in front of the kitchen window. We saw the main cook reach up to take his cell phone down, text, and put the phone back above his head on what we believe is a shelf. All with gloves on and while cooking. The food tasted pretty bland, especially for the descriptions of the food. I had to add salt, pepper, hot sauce, and asked for extra sauce on my pasta and it was still very tasteless. The others at the table said their food was also pretty bland. The lollipop chicken wings were the best thing we had all night and had the most taste. Our waiter wasn't present much and I had to ask another two waiters for hot sauce, a refill on my water, and also to get me the check. It was very busy but not busy enough to only see the waitress when we ordered and then when we paid. If you are looking for a great atmosphere with good drinks this is the place to go for sure! read more

TLDR: Yummy food, super fancy and fun drinks, if you're into vintage/1920s/burlesque (even if you're not into it) you will enjoy the vibe. And food. This almost felt like getting through Leaky Cauldron (Harry Potter) cos there is a cosy library-like lobby with so many ultra cool trinkets and artefacts with a book shelf that slithers open into...not gonna spoilt it, go see for yourself. We really enjoyed the place and the service was quick and friendly, all their food and drinks recommendations were top notch. I also liked the projector playing old movies :) I tried the Big Chicken Little pasta and really liked it. Lollipop gams appetiser- tastyy. Nope, I've gone in jeans and a sweatshirt. You are welcome to dress up if you want but usually it's just the staff.
