I try to visit Prohibition every time I go to SLC. When I heard they had opened a location downtown, I knew I had to try Repeal. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very cool. They had a Jazz pianist the night I went. I ordered the Bison Ribeye and the Frozen Fig Soufflé for dessert. Both were amazing! It may have been the best steak I've ever had. My waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and had some great recommendations. It's a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for. I will be back, and I suggest you give it a try sometime.

Loved the ambience of this place. You walk down a staircase and it opens into a speak-easy type setting with low lights and tables in quaint areas. The bar is wonderful with the lights and choices in front of you. The menu is an old newspaper which just adds the best touch! The bartenders are wonderful and open to helping which is very nice. I was able to try the Iron Work drink as well as the handmade Tahitian vanilla ice cream and the chocolate tartlet! The tartlet was interesting. I loved the chocolate but I got a little lost on the cream with basil on the top. It was good at first, but then I just went for the chocolate. The Tahitian vanilla was to die for!

Loved this place! The vibes, drinks, music, lighting were perfect. We stumbled upon this place on a Friday night and were thoroughly impressed! The band playing that night was awesome. I'm really glad a place like this made its way to SLC. Would definitely come back!

Ever since my son started really getting into Jazz music, I've been eagerly awaiting his 21st birthday so he could go to a real live jazz club with me. Well, the day finally came and we booked a table at Repeal, anticipating a cool jazzy experience. We were not let down! The atmosphere was swanky, the food and drinks were exquisite and the service was phenomenal. I'm so excited that downtown Salt Lake City has such a great place to sip on a Martini while listening to live music. It's spendy, no doubt. But you're not attending a low-level bar. This is an elevated experience and you're going to pay for that.

We were initially seated at a high top that wasn't intimate, for a date night. The server gladly moved us. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and generally just fun and pleasant. She was exceptional at her job. The bartender didn't have a local rye whiskey. No problem. He came over to explain and make a recommendation. The Black Manhattan was awesome. For my next drink I asked him to be creative. The drink was fabulous. The bartender was world-class. The food was good. Portions are small but that is totally acceptable for this level of dining. Pricing is acceptable for the quality. If you are looking for budget dining, that's ok.... you should just look elsewhere. They are no trying to operate in that space and are clear and upfront about that. The bar tender and server were open minded and accommodating. What I can't figure out is the "chef". We ordered vegetarian and pescatarian food. When we wanted to order the noodles (plain) without meat, we were told that the chef doesn't allow substitutions. How hard is it to plate fresh pasta noodles without meat? The server and bartender more than made up for the "chef" and so 5 stars it is!

Seek this out. The cocktails are top shelf in every way: creative, compelling, crushable. Live jazz plays behind the golden age ambience - the vibe cradles you in glamour. And the quality meets the moment. The small plates are indeed small, but they're refined rather than lacking. The octopus in particular is next level. Like escargot from a parallel universe. Entrees are more normal sized and equally well prepared. Huge shout out to the bartenders! We felt welcomed, valued, and almost immediately part of the Repeal family. This is a great spot for a romantic date night as well as just some quality cocktails. We're big fans.

Wow!! What a total makeover and totally moody vibes! Since it took over the old Bourbon House my expectations were pretty low however I was blown away from the total makeover and vibes that this place has created. From the moment you walk in till you leave you feel you are in the coolest place. The food was delish and presentation great. The reason for not giving it 5 stars was, 1 no prices on anything and if there were the printing was cut off so if you had a budget to stay in this wasn't the spot. The staff wasn't unpleasant but they def didn't make it a memorable experience and when we went for a bday nothing was expressed wishing a happy birthday and when asked at the end of the meal to take a picture of the group I was met with a little bit of an attitude of they were above doing this for us. I would have been a little more ok if it had been busy, which I wouldn't have asked but it was completely empty in the front and the host was just on their phone. Despite the minor service and menu hiccups, I would still go as I just was in love with space layout and the Shrimp Lemon Fettuccini!

I enjoyed the brisket pasta dish for dinner and would recommend the octopus and ahi tuna apps...delicious! Kind of a speakeasy vibe being in the basement. I guess they have the largest selection of whiskey in Utah so that is a bonus if you're into this. Good local beer selection. Overall a little pricey but food and service was good. Recommend trying!

Repeal is a whole vibe. We scored a booth in the back with a piano view, and it was the ideal setup. The musicians are wildly talented. That piano player. Credit where it's due: the chef showed up. The Lion's Mane mushroom dish was creative and unexpected, presentation on point. We also did the ahi tuna, octopus, and endive salad. Every plate looked thoughtfully planned, polished, and meant to be shared. Tapas is my love language, and Repeal speaks it fluently. Bring me another Manhattan Sil vous plait.

Such a cute little hidden spot! This is where Bourbon House used to be, and it's now a cute and classy little jazz bar. They have bites and drinks, and we went on a Thursday night and there was live jazz music. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and our server brought out a cake for her and the band played happy birthday. Such a great little spot, I can't wait to come back!

This restaurant has a cool ambience and we went for the live jazz music! The music was great however they charge a $25 cover fee... at a restaurant I thought was bizarre. Anyways, the food is pretty expensive as well though we knew that going in. The menu only has 5 entrees and one of them was sold out that night so 4. I got the chicken which was very delicious and a side salad. I could tell their food was well made though I wish there was more options. We also had a reservation for a table although it was in the corner where you can not see the band so we switched to sit at the bar, kind of disappointing. The bar staff were very nice to us and the drinks were good as well. Probably would not come back since I got the one thing on the menu I wanted to try.

I saw this place on TikTok and thought me and the huns would give it a try. It did not disappoint! The ambiance was great! They had a live jazz band that was amazing! The food . We started with the hummus and grilled olives. I would come back for the hummus and fresh pita bread alone! Then onto the grilled endive which was ok. For our entrees we had the bison ribeye and the chicken confit. Chefs kiss . The polenta cake with the chicken was sooo good! The staff was friendly and gave good recommendations. We will be back!

5/5 - Swanky Vibes, Killer Cocktails, and Top-Tier Service If you're looking for that perfect blend of class, creativity, and comfort--Repeal is it. From the moody, swanky interior to the next-level cocktail menu, this place is in a league of its own. With a jazz band included! Let's start with the drinks: the Molé Espresso Martini is unreal. Rich, bold, a touch spicy, and totally unforgettable. The Paloma is another standout--bright, crisp, and ridiculously smooth. Every cocktail is crafted with intention and flavor-forward flair. Service? Impeccable. Angelo, Caleb, and Ethan were our servers and absolutely crushed it--attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. He gave great recommendations and brought such a chill, welcoming energy to our table. And huge shoutout to "Gizelle" the GM--you can tell this space is a reflection of her. She brings style, warmth, and a fierce attention to detail that ties everything together. From the atmosphere to the staff to the drink program, J has created something really special here. This isn't just a bar--it's an experience. Whether it's a date night, a cocktail meetup, or a solo unwind spot, Repeal nails it every time.

They were close to closing - we got in on a Sat 45 min before closing - so we did not tell them as they were shutting down and it would have sicked fir them to have to make the dish again, but... we could not eat the pasta due to the saltiness. I don't think it was the sauce becaue I tried just the noodles without a lot of the sauce (we got the sausage pasta- forget the name), and the noodles were just way too salty. Maybe too much salt in the cooking water? The noodles were a great texture and perfect bounce. We ended up tossing the dish, very sad:( We will give it another try for sure because of all the good reviews and we saw other people eating and enjoying their food from there. Parking is all street parking, and during peak dinner hours it can definitely be hit or miss. We ended up parking a bit farther away and walking over. Service was a little messy during our visit, but I could also tell the staff was trying their best. It seemed like there was only one person taking orders and handling the front, and she looked pretty flustered on a busy night. I also suspect the kitchen may have been understaffed. For appetizers, we ordered the ravioli and the baguette au gratin. Both were delicious. The ravioli was definitely my favorite of the night. It was super rich and heavy, so sharing it was the right move. The baguette itself tasted good, but the cheese on top was cold and had already solidified. It felt like it had been premade and quickly assembled before serving. For our mains, we ordered the duck breast and the beef bourguignon. This is where I really started feeling like the kitchen was struggling a bit. Both dishes came out surprisingly fast, but unfortunately the duck, mashed potatoes, and even the gravy were cold. Not just cooled down, but genuinely cold like they had been sitting out for a while and not kept under a warming lamp. The beef bourguignon was the warmest dish we received, though even that was only lukewarm. The frustrating part is that the flavors were actually really good. The food itself was delicious, but the temperature of almost every dish really took away from the experience.

We were quoted a 10-15 minute wait despite there being multiple open tables everywhere, which already set the tone. The person at the front also seemed like greeting guests was a personal inconvenience. Not exactly the warm welcome you'd expect from a place trying this hard to look aesthetic. To make things worse, several pastries sitting in the front display were visibly burnt. Not "artisan charred" -- just burnt. The pastries we ordered were actually good, which makes the rest of the menu even more disappointing. We tried the soft scramble, pork cheek tartine, truffle tartine, and mushroom fettuccine. Everything looked beautiful but tasted either burnt, bland, or both. Every toast item arrived burnt enough that you could taste it in every bite. Our server came by often to refill waters and check on us, but the service somehow still felt oddly impersonal. Since the restaurant wasn't busy at all, it also made us wonder how attentive the service would be during an actual rush. Honestly, this place feels more focused on looking trendy than serving good food. Stick to the pastries if you go -- it's the only thing worth ordering.

It's a beautiful space, especially when it's still light outside and the evening sun comes in through the windows. Our server Jordan was excellent. Knowledgeable and efficient. They give you a TON of complementary things. Bruschetta to start. A massive bread basket, which is great for dipping into the anchovy garlic dipping sauce and all sorts of other sauces throughout the evening. And biscotti and a little cup of hot chocolate for dessert. We did not love the pasta sampler we ordered, though. It certainly wasn't bad, but all the pasta was overcooked IMO. I got the Salsiccia e Mare for my entree, and it was fabulous. Essentially a cioppino, but with sausage on a bit of spinach in the middle. The seafood was clams, muscles, calamari, and scallops. My wife had the Pollo della Casa, which was super tasty, but, as with the pasta, we thought the risotto was really overcooked. Had almost no consistency at all. Almost like creamy grits. And the famous lemon gelato dessert at the end was super. It was 28 bucks - ouch - but it was massive. Very lemony, and served on a bit of fresh Utah peaches. Prepared tableside, which was fun. I didn't love the honey they drizzled all over it, but my wife sure did. All in all, a really fun evening and a very solid restaurant. We'll go again.

I ate at Valter's Osteria last night with a client. It was just fantastic…read more We started with the antipasto. There were two options and we chose the one with shrimp on romaine, burrata caprese, and melon with prosciutto. Then we shared the pasta sampler (which has a much cooler name that I can't recall because I don't speak Italian!). I was never a big fan of gnocchi but it was fantastic, served in a spicier tomato-based sauce. There was a spectacular butternut squash ravioli, spinach ravioli, and a spaghetti with an indescribably delicious cream sauce. Overall, that dish is NOT to be missed. We also had a special entree of beef tenderloin with mushrooms, shaved potatoes, and an oxtail sauce. We shared it because OMG food coma, which was a great call. We finished with the tiramisu *swoon* and the lemon gelato with lemon juice, local Utah honey, and sea salt sprinkles. I'm not a big lemon dessert fan and I wouldn't have normally ordered it (I had the tiramisu). The lemon gelato with honey had such a pleasantly unusual texture. The honey had the mouth feel of stringy cheese but the flavor of spring. The gelato was delicate and soft and the salt just amplified the experience. Zachary was our server. He's funny, extremely knowledgeable, and served each dish with an unforgettable flourish. I'm sure mine is just one more voice extolling the fabulousness of this restaurant, but it was a pleasure. In my work, I get to eat in many amazing restaurants. It sounds bold, but I think this was one of the best meals I've ever had. Excellent choice!

I think they blend the Japanese and Italian cuisine so nicely. I would've preferred a little bigger portion sizes though. The wagyu ragu was pretty good but nothing too crazy. Still highly recommend!

Unfortunately, the meal wasn't amazing but did have a few hits THE GOOD - Great service. The dishes and specials were described well for us. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs (napkins and water refills) - The mussels appetizer (a special?) was incredible. Great umami flavor and a delicious, rich sauce that was perfect to dip bread into - zucchini blossom special was great. They were perfectly fried and had delicious sauces accompanying the dish. Great appetizer and would order again if available - The fish entree was delicious. I would definitely order this again also. Great sauces on this dish. THE BAD - So many bland dishes. Dishes desperately needed salt. Many appetizers and pasta dishes felt one note and looked more appetizing than they ended up being - Pasta was super chewy. While I appreciate fresh made pasta, this pasta was bland and felt under cooked. -The gnocchi dish was not great. The sauce likely broke and there was a really unappealing rim of straight oil that made the whole dish taste very poorly and made my husband lose his appetite. Overall, I'd stick to a few appetizers and the seafood entree but skip the pasta dishes. This is unfortunate given the fusion concept should have higher quality and more flavorful pasta.
