I was looking forward to trying after seeing this place featured along with the burger joint inside Woodbine Foodhall. I love the foodhall, super relaxed and would be a great place to come back with friends. Unfortunately our pasta was super salty. They were close to closing - we got in on a Sat 45 min before closing - so we did not tell them as they were shutting down and it would have sicked fir them to have to make the dish again, but... we could not eat the pasta due to the saltiness. I don't think it was the sauce becaue I tried just the noodles without a lot of the sauce (we got the sausage pasta- forget the name), and the noodles were just way too salty. Maybe too much salt in the cooking water? The noodles were a great texture and perfect bounce. We ended up tossing the dish, very sad:( We will give it another try for sure because of all the good reviews and we saw other people eating and enjoying their food from there. Maybe they were just having an off night.. Placed our order, as soon as we paid we were informed they didn't have the pasta that went into the dish, while we were trying to sort that out they found the pasta. Pasta came out first. It was chewy and gummy but the sauce was good. Salad came out with the side of fries meant for the Stromboli. 30 min on no Stromboli. I go back and check, still cooking, finally after 50 min they give me the Stromboli. I take one bite and it's frozen solid in the middle. I'd been wanting to try this place since moving to salt lake, well before they moved into woodbine, and I'm so happy it lived up to the hype. The Banh-Boli was jam packed with filling, which really did give the impression of a banh mi! With most italian food, you can tell how much care went into its production by the quality of the accompanying starch - the stromboli breading was perfectly light and pleasantly chewy on the inside, and crusted on the outside. A masterpiece, served quickly! My only gripe lies with the cost: quality is paramount, which the banh boli has in excess, but I might've wanted just a bit more food for a $17 meal, whether it be an extra half inch of stromboli, or a side of chips. read more

What an interesting spot. It's a ghost kitchen in some warehouse and you order through a tablet. I ended up getting a banh-boli which I guess is a fusion of banh mi and Stromboli. The flavors were actually pretty cool and conceptually it was very new to me. Overall I enjoyed the food and pricing wise it wasn't bad. It's not like a comfortable restaurant or anything but they do have a few tables to eat. Took a while to get our food, like 20 minutes. Would try out some other things on the menu if I were back though. Parking - Street parking outside but it wasn't bad since the place wasn't busy. read more

I've been wanting to try their strombolis for so long. Located inside the woodbine food hall, their food looked so good. I think it was just ok. The bread it was baked in was great but it was just ok. Not sure if it was too salty or if it was missing something. Food is 5 stars! The flavor was so good and very creative. As far as the space goes, that's why the rating is lower. Next time, I think I'd order to go. It's not clear when you walk in how to order or if it's even open since you're in an open warehouse space and the kitchen is at the back, and you order on an iPad. The tables look like they hadn't been wiped off in a few days which felt like a small detail that shouldn't be hard to keep up with. And then when I needed to ask for a to go box, I had to call to someone in the kitchen. Interesting spot! This is actually a rental kitchen area for up and coming chefs or food truck operators. Marcato is the only permanent food service here specializing in calzones. They have very unique offers for calzone innards and some good veggie options. We ordered the beet unit and as mentioned in other reviews, it's quite delicious. It comes out piping hot with a beautiful crust coated with sesame seeds that get a nice and toasty flavor. Also ordered a side of fries, good but not anything that really stands out. Most folks probably order food to go, inside is like an oversized garage. In fact one person almost drove their car into the place while we sat at a table! read more

My friend and I grabbed Bahn-boli's to eat in a park. Even though we placed orders far ahead of time, it still took a very long time and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes. There was a little bit of seating to wait, but this was definitely a commercial kitchen and is not meant for dine-in. Keep that in mind if you are planning on meeting with people for a meal. The Bahn-boli itself was very large and had a lot of cheese and was extremely spicy. We both felt the amount of cheese was overpowering and kind of ruined the meal, and I felt mine had so many chili peppers that the spice also overpowered it. The bread is soft yet crispy. I had The Meatball. It's large and flavorful with melty cheese. I really enjoyed it and would absolutely order it again. My spouse had the Banh Boli, ya know a Banh Mi in a Stromboli. He really enjoyed it and again this had a ton of flavor. We were excited to try this place! I ordered online and it came out when expected. The fries and sauce are super delicious. I got the karaage chicken, which is a special. It was so HUGE! I cut it in half and didn't finish that half. Super delicious, spicy and flavorful. My husband and son got the Little Shawty and the Bodega and reported they both were great. The only downside was the cauliflower Caesar salad - it was so salty!! I think it was the dressing. We ended up throwing it away. I'm looking forward to trying other Stromboli. read more

This place ain't much to look at, but the food! You have to go here! We walked in and off to the right was a makeshift seating area and no one around. We were eventually directed to the self-service kiosk and then a young man came out of the kitchen and asked if we had questions about the menu. They should change their name to 'Salt Kitchen'. All three of our orders (Pesto Tagliolini and two orders of Broken Meatball Ragu) were geuninely the saltiest dishes we have ever eaten. I stopped by to try the Strombolis (Banh-Boli) and it was very delicious and tasty! The Broken Meatball Ragu was so good and had small kick of spicy from the Nduja sausage which I loved! Honestly I was expecting the food to be better, especially at the price. My mushroom stromboli was super salty and the cheese used in the Mac and cheese was strong and bitter. I found this place because of some Utah foodie reel on Instagram and when my partner and I were in need of some food, I placed an online order with them. My partner order the hot for a teacher and I chose the Cuban Stromboli. We were quoted 20 minutes so we headed to the test kitchen they were operating out of. Unfortunately, our food wasn't ready in 20 minutes. We waited an additional 20 minutes in a non-air conditioned space for the food to be done. As we waited, more and more people came in for their orders and were also told it would be a wait. When we finally did get our order, we immediately dug in and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious they were. My partner got a side of fries that were crispy and fresh, and I got the cucumber salad which was fresh but just okay. The Strombolis are worth the wait, but it would be great to be given a better estimate for when they'll be ready. read more

I had the Hot for Teacher lunch special. It did take some time for the order to come out (as it does with good food), and it was WELL worth the wait! The food is super fresh - everything is made by hand, including the fries. This is def the best Stromboli in the area. I would definitely come here again. A note for new visitors: you'll arrive at the Square Kitchen (which if you know, is an incubator kitchen, so the ambiance and seating is very rough) and enter the door to the east. I had to run a few errands downtown today and was looking on Yelp for a new place to try. Marcato popped up and I'm a huge fan of Stromboli. We plugged it into maps to take us there. We passed the place a few times because we couldn't see a sign. We parked and went to the address 751.... Please don't let location and no sign deter you from trying Marcato. It will not disappoint!!! We went inside and found the kiosk to order. We did the Teacher and Meatball. Wow!!! First off they are huge. You won't go away hungry after this meal. Make sure to get plenty of napkins and get a side of the Marcato sauce for dunking. Thank you for a great lunch! We will be back!! I told the family about this place for them to try. I'm here to hype up their "Give Me The Beet" stromboli, because wow! I was so impressed by the flavors in this. I'm not usually a fan of beets, because they can have a somewhat overpowering earthy flavor, but this stromboli is incredible and the beets are the star of the show. Give Me The Beet has pickled beets, sauteed broccolini with shallot and lemon, basil pesto, candied walnuts, herb goat cheese, and mozzarella. They're pretty big too! I was able to eat have for lunch and half for dinner. I didn't originally know exactly what a stromboli was, but when I heard that it's essentially an adult hot pocket, I was sold. Pickup is in Square Kitchen, which is a warehouse style commissary kitchen building housing other small businesses as well. The parking is limited, but there is street parking all along that block. We ordered online and pickup was ready within 20 minutes or so. Excited to check out their french fries and gnocchi during my next visit! read more

Come here to try their marvelous Stromboli, a savory filled Italian pastry, similar to a calzone. The dough has a great chewy texture and the fillings are high quality and flavorful. They have both traditional Italian fillings, as well as an intriguing lineup of novel ones (banh mi? Cubano?? roasted beets???) Prices for their stromboli clock in at $16-18, so not cheap, but worth it for the good quality and generous portion size. Would not expect any less from alumni of the illustrious HSL! The Square Kitchen pickup location leaves a bit to be desired---limited on-street parking, dilapidated neighborhood, and a very spare reception area---but don't let that dissuade you from trying Marcato for your strombolic needs! read more

My husband and I checked this place out today as we're always hunting for new spots to try out. We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by this place- it has certainly been a very very long time since we've found something in the valley that was this special and it definitely brought a breath of fresh air and high hope into the SLC culinary space. We got the teacher, ricotta gnocchi, and the cauliflower caesar salad- all of which were probably some of the most memorable pieces that we've had in SLC for awhile that you can tell were crafted by a chef who genuinely understands the balance of very well-designed food, flavors, textures, presentation (even in a to-go container) and mostly this art. SLC lacks the quality of food and art Marcato Kitchen has to offer and I am very excited to see where this concept goes because it was genuinely beyond impressive and well exceeded our expectations. We ran down to a coffee shop 5 mins down the street and ate at a communal table where everyone sitting around us was asking where and what we were eating because everyone was so impressed at the presentation of how good the food looked in to-go containers and everyone sitting around immediately all said they needed to try this place out because of how beautiful the food looked. My husband and I attested that it tasted even better than it looked and highly recommended giving it a shot. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, unique and stunning flavors, perfect temperature even after taking it to go, and each component complimenting the next. Absolutely breath-taking across the board in every possible way- we were jaw dropped and speechless, honestly. Note that the kitchen is located in a shared an industrial kitchen space and is not designed for sit-down or dine-in, you order your food at the kiosk outside the kitchen and the chef prepares it fresh for you, it takes about 15-25 minutes based on what you order but then you take it to go. It is in a somewhat warehouse environment but you enter through the front doors and there is a little kiosk in the middle towards the back on a table where you place your order. We were greeted by I believe the chef, who was very warm and had such lovely vibes. We will absolutely be back to try the other menu items, hoping they continue this concept as it's quite perfect but I wouldn't be surprised if they released into a full restaurant concept eventually because these guys would absolutely crush it in SLC. We are very very lucky to have quality and art this good available to us in a casual concept where easily accessible. Thank you, Marcato kitchen, for completely making our weekend today and truly providing an experience that will be added to our memories to cherish and recommend which is so incredibly difficult to come by these days in the culinary space. A really hadn't had a Stromboli before. It is a a sandwich cooked in the oven. It might be a bit more complicated than that, but it means that, as others have said, it takes a bit to get the food. But when it comes out, it is hot, and delicious. I would recommend getting them to go. They will stay warm for 10-15 minutes. I stayed at ate at the tables, which is also fine. I ordered the Teacher. After staring at the iPad menu for a few minutes, I still couldn't tell what the ingredients were, so I just ordered it as it was on the menu. What came out was a cheese, meet and vegetable sandwich melted together, not something for picky eaters, but if you are willing to try something new, go for it!
