You can tell she loves her job and is proud of her cook. This place may not look fancy like other Italian restaurants with dim lighting, fancy deco, but her food speaks for itself. Her salad is always fresh and flavorful. We had avocado salad. It's not just a bed of mix green with avocado slices. There's apple slices, mixed green, every piece is lightly covered with rich and refreshing dressing. The pizza is not the usual pizza from pizzeria, she made it from scratch. It has its own texture. Pork lasagna is light! It is not the typical thick pasta layers. Everything is made from scratch. We love it. My friend said it's more northern Italian cooking. It's not loaded with red tomato sauce. The pasta is thinner, the ground pork is tender. Then comes my favorite short rib ravioli. I'm usually not a fan of ravioli, because they're always full of cheese and nothing else, but Susy's is full of short rib. Just meat, not trying to cheat with cheese or cream. If I want real authentic Italian food, I'll come here. I love how Susy will stop by the table, chat with us, told us what tv show she's watching. The food by Mama Susy is outstanding! And it IS "Mama Susy" who does all the cooking. This is really a hole in the wall. Only in terms of size. It's clean, it's bright. Just in a very small space. She is the real deal, a real native of the cuisine here in the US cooking for us lucky people. She's a solo act. My wife had the herb chicken and I had the lasagna. Both were healthy portions and both very good. We will be returning. She's such a sweet lady. I hope that her business gets traction. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. This place is amazing!! We ordered the arancini to start as Susy freshly prepared our entrees. Lightly golden crispy outside, with ooey gooey cheese and a tomato sauce inside. Simply delectable. Our entrees were short rib ravioli and chicken mushroom ravioli. The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender with a pinot noir sauce inside and out. Chicken mushroom ravioli was accompanied by a fresh and tastebud-satisfying basil pesto. All raviolis were made at order and generously filled. Pasta was a bit more al dente for the chicken from its shorter cooking time, but make mistake that both were perfect. Throughout our time, Susy came out and visited with us during different cooking stages. She shared stories about the rice she uses for her arancini (not arborio) to make it more authentic to its Sicilian roots, how tomatoes make the difference, and how she's adapted her recipes to maintain flavor in the more arid Salt Lake valley. You really feel invested in what you're about to enjoy when you learn how she works hard at all the details. It's safe to say that you'll likely be full when leaving, but none of it will feel heavy. You'll feel full of Susy's love for Sicilian and southern Italian food. I met some sisters and a niece for dinner on a Tuesday night to celebrate a birthday. We were the only diners there and Susy was the only employee, so she had to serve/cook/clean. I'm sure there are other staff helping on weekends. It is a small restaurant with a big menu. I had the ricotta gnocchi with a pink tomato cream sauce. Others ordered margarita pizza, chicken mushroom ravioli with pesto, and brisket linguine. Everything was delicious!! Water comes in a chilled bottle. There were no desserts available the night we ate--would have been nice to top off dinner with a sweet treat. Next time I'll try other items. First thing's first this is hands down the best gnocchi I've had in Utah. Beats Per Noi Trattoria, Cafe Molise, and other fancy downtown Italian spots I've tried. Not chewy, just pillowy goodness that melts in your mouth with a delectable pink cream / white wine sauce that I practically licked off the plate. The location is very unassuming. Susy herself was the only one working on a Tuesday evening, our server and chef. The utensils are all disposable and the water comes bottled. You know you struck gold when you walk into a strip mall restaurant and the owner is the only person in the place. Don't get me wrong, I love a crowd but this was a small restaurant with only a few tables in it and it was a late lunch. The owner, Susy, greeted me and treated me so well and kind. Susy's kitchen started off as a food truck. Sadly, Susy is still acting as if it still is. When we first walked in, two things struck me: it was very clean and white, and the seatimg is patio furniture (it looked more like an ice cream shop than a restaurant). The food is served in to go containers, with plastic utensils. When we asked for water, we were given chilled water bottles and plastic cups that we were later charged $1.75 each. Susy is a one woman show. She is the hostess, waitress, cook, and cashier. It is amazing that she is so happy. We came because one of the only other pictures on Yelp is of pork rib ragu. It looked delicious and is something we have not seen in many menus. This convinced us to come. Sadly, even though the pork rib ragu is featured on the window (in vinyl), it is not in the menu. Susy explained to us that she does all the cooking herself. Therefore, she had to make the menu smaller. Understandable but disappointing just the same. I ordered the Tuscan Chicken Pasta because Susy told us the sauce was a vodka sauce. It didn't look nor taste like a vodka sauce. The pasta is homemade and, as such, has a nice chew to it. The chicken is a chicken thigh with basic seasoning. My husband ordered the pork belly sandwich. The pork belly was very tender and delicious, but as a sandwich, it was lacking. The description said served with seasonal vegetables but it was just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo on a store brought hamburger bun (you know the type that sticks to the roof of your mouth when bitting into it). We were left scratching or heads. This elevated meat was brought down by the bread and toppings. (A nice brioche, onions, peppers, and an aoili would have easily elevated this dish.) Susy served the sandwich with fresh fries. They were hot, fresh potatoes, and well seasoned but not crisp. Bottomline, $45 after tip makes this a no-go for us. Small portions that don't deliver on flavor. When we left, my husband turned to me and said, "It got 5 stars." We expect more from Yelp. read more

This was, without question, the most unprofessional takeout dining experience I've ever encountered. I placed an order with Susie's Kitchen after a significant conversation with the proprietor about a specific delivery timeline. She explicitly agreed to the timeline, leaving me under the impression everything would be handled smoothly. Imagine my frustration when the food wasn't ready on time--and to make matters worse, she blamed me for the delay. Yes, the customer was somehow at fault for her inability to meet a timeline she herself confirmed. After the order was delayed by more than half an hour, she refused to make any apology. We tried to cancel and she refused that as well. The lack of professionalism doesn't stop there. The restaurant's website doesn't list any prices on the menu, leaving customers to guess how much they'll be charged. When I asked for a menu, I was sent blurry photos that were nearly impossible to read. It felt like a joke--or a warning sign of the poor operations to come. Between the lack of transparency, the appalling communication, and the inability to follow through on basic commitments, this place is as poorly run as any restaurant I've encountered.
