Why has it been so many years since I've been here! I remember it more dingey. It also seems this was one of those places that let people smoke well after it was illegal. I went with my wife after she let me know we should go back. That was good advice. This is the new replacement for Village Inn. It's locally owned, and excellent. Despite looking somewhat like hand formed patties, they are pre-made to look that way. They are still better quality than the normal cheap Sysco burger. The fries were very good. I wouldn't recommend this "bar" as soon as you walk in you start feeling uncomfortable, and very unwelcome... Food is not the best, and please don't get me started on drinks... To called yourself a bartender you need to be able to do more than just pouring beer... they didn't what were most of the drinks.. and what ever I was sever tasted like tab water with weird flavoring... never coming again... This is a review of the bar only--I can't vouch for the food. I noticed this place soon after we moved to Orem and my interest was piqued. A few months went by, we were very busy, and didn't get around to trying The Hitching Post until last month. After trying a lot of other places in Orem to get a beer, I didn't have high hopes: I was sick of having to order food just to enjoy going out for a drink. Well, The Hitching Post is a REAL BAR. A DIVE BAR. You do not have to order food. No one gives you the hairy eyeball for sitting and drinking. The prices are decent, the bartenders are good, and the atmosphere is cosy. I like the bars in Provo okay, but they tend to be quite loud and even a bit smelly. The Hitching Post manages to be a comfortable dive while still maintaining an atmosphere in which you can carry on a conversation. It feels like a dad's basement circa 1982, in a good way: wood-paneled walls, lots of beer posters, football insignia, and ads for local businesses on the ceiling tiles. The bartender told me that they have NFL Network and play several different games on their TVs during the season. Perfect. There's an outdoor patio (no view, though) and inside there are bar seats, a few tables, and two pool tables. The bar is connected to the restaurant by a hallway where you'll find the bathrooms. It looks like you might be able to order snacks like fries and onion rings to the bar, but we haven't tested it out. The beer selection includes a few 4%ers on tap, plus higher alcohol beers in bottles. They have Hop Rising from Squatters and a few other legit brews, plus a full bar of liquor and mixers. A working-class-style dive bar where you'll feel pleasantly ignored by the other patrons. Pretty sure they're open Sundays, too. read more

So, I am a karaoke junkie. I found out that on Friday nights the Hitching Post serves up Karaoke to local attendees. So, I jumped on my Harley and rode over a little after 9 pm. There were a lot of college aged kids there, surprisingly. I have been to the Hitching Post on motorcycle rides where the Post either hosted a ride or it was one of several poker hand stops along the route of another motorcycle ride. I found the karaoke to be ok. The biggest complaint was the sound system was not very good. For us karaoke junkies, gotta have a good mic stand, great speakers and sound system. But, for a Friday night and with nothing else planned, it was a reason to fire up the HOG and ride over and sing a few songs! I will be back. You should try it out as well. read more

I wish any bartender there had the common decency not to watch their customers drive up, then get them ridiculously wasted and watch them stagger out of the bar and get behind the wheel of a car and drive off. This is definitely a Utah bar. I went in without an I.D and the Haggard bartender was super happy to tell me to leave. I'am 35 and fully aware of the Utah laws and regulations concerning alcohol. She was a Utah native for sure and acted like she was doing her job but in reality she isn't. Not best for customer service or the nicest. read more

This is a hidden gem. The Hitching Post is a family owned and operated establishment. It has been owned by Dena since 1993. The bar is open 7 days a week and the cafe is open Monday through Friday 6:30 Am to 6:00 PM and 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays. The bar is open 7 days a week and offers a pool tournament on Tuesdays, darts on Thursdays and karaoke on Fridays. On Saturdays they even have free pool! The food here is perfect greasy spoon cafe food. The fries, hash browns and soups are all made fresh on site, You wont find prepackaged potatoes products in the kitchen just real potatoes. The burgers are about the same cost as a fast food value meal. Food can also be ordered in the bar after the cafe has closed. If you are looking for a genuine relaxing time in a working class bar this is a good time. I love supporting family owned establishments and this is a good one. Good old small town style place, good burgers, fries, fry sauce, fast quick and easy, reminds me of an old truck stop diner.

If you want an ice cold draft beer, a decent bite to eat, hang out, play pool, darts, listen to old songs on the jukebox this is the place. The place isn't fancy or pretentious at all. It reminds us of taverns in other states where it is still normal to go have a couple beers after work. It is a beer bar/game room in the back and diner in the front. We go here to support one of the few small town style taverns left in the area and because we are always treated respectfully regardless of how proper or dirty we look. Funny thing is we stopped in on a Karaoke night and saw the cutest elderly ladies singing Patsy Cline songs and the DJ remembered my husband from several years earlier and said he saved his song: Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. He is not normally a karaoke singer but sang it previously as a request from the widow of one of his good friends along with some Bob Seger songs...if you don't know who those song artists are, maybe this place isn't for you. read more
