It's been years since I've been in a diner. I've been in lots of places that say they are a diner, but they don't know how to be a diner. This is the real thing The coffee is good, served in think ceramic cups with perfectly sized handle to feel proper in the hand. You can't go five minutes without someone asking if you need a refill. The sausage isn't a sweet Jimmy Dean's style. The bacon excellent. Service was great. Everything else was done well to excellent. This is a place I'd avoided for years because of mediocre experiences back in the day. It's too bad I'd not kept up on them. This is now my go to breakfast place. read more

One other thing that this café has that most similar places do not? Alcohol. You read that right. You can order a beer with your burger-you just have to show scannable ID (that's what the menu says.) There is a bar attached to the restaurant-although it has a completely separate entrance, so if you want to come with your family and don't want the bar scene, you're totally safe. I totally recommend! It was so good and warm and comforting. My family was trying to find somewhere to eat and there is this diner. The pancakes were the best and hot chocolate and my dad loved the omelette. He said it has been the best one he has had in a while. And our waitress was so kind. She was fun and was helpful. Also the vibe was so comforting. Like a place you would go if you had a hard day and just needed a good cooked meal. And my favorite part had to be the old arcade machines. This is a local coffee shop that's been around for as long as I can remember. The pancake was light and fluffy. I love the chef salad but I have to remember to ask for no onions or green peppers. They kept my coffee cup filled. I've never had the killer hash browns but they sound mouth-watering yummy. read more

Callie's is DEFINITELY underrated. This isn't the world's greatest restaurant, but they definitely deserve more than their overall 3 star rating. Here's why: FOOD. The food is dang good! It tastes like something your grandma would cook you. Especially if she was trying to fatten you up or something. Almost like home style cooking. Sure, the place has old chairs and seems a little run down. But I think that adds to the cozy feel. It's the type of place where the waitress knows your name and you can tell her "I'll have the usual!" And chances are there will be a biker gang in here having breakfast when you come. First off... I like this place, and in this pandemic world I wanted to show support to a place I liked. Upon entering there is a sign that says the cook has a health condition and cant wear a mask and to enter at your own risk. Well... no one there had a mask or any other sort of protection. The place wasn't crowded but everyone seemed to be lumped together. My wife and I found a seat the furthest from all of that. I ordered the Biscuit Hi and Fiancé ordered the garbage omelet. Both were flavorless. We had to keep adding salt and hot sauce and to no avail. The overall price was high for the quality of food. The interior was old. Reminded me of what you'd go into on a long road trip. Dusty, a mixture of odd decor, things for sale, and stuff. Staff was overall friendly. A biscuit split in half sitting on top of hash browns covered in a white country gravy. "Sausage chunks" there were really diced sausage links were randomly found under the gravy. Ok so Callie's Cafe is a little rough on the outside, a little outdated on the inside... like really outdated 70's look with some yellow tiles against the kitchen wall and some old furniture. But their food and service is great. We went for lunch and the server was really nice and friendly and had good recommendations on what to each cause we had never been. We got some chicken strips and fries with a bowl of the chili mac. The chili mac was so delicious and the fries are perfect! They are nice thick cut fries. We also got the club which is probably one of the best I have ever had. It has roast beef and cheddar and ham and bacon and so much goodness packed between 3 slices of bread. It was sooo good! I would recommend this. The atmosphere is a little antiquey. And the temp was a little cold. But overall it was a good experience. read more

Decent breakfast menu-NOT too keto friendly though. Definitely a high carb place. I can't remember what the potatoes that are loaded with a bunch of stuff, but I really enjoyed them before starting keto, as did everyone in my office. My biggest complaint comes from the fact that this is a breakfast place that has THE WORST coffee! It's always burnt or stale tasting. No amount of cream or stevia could fix the flavor. As all food in Utah it's barely passable as edible! Frozen onion rings canned or plastic wrapped ham, deli meat, limp crappy iceberg lettuce (try romaine) ridiculously large portions. People of Utah it's about time you caught up with the 21st Century and started cooking food that is seasoned, fresh, tastes good, healthier, etc...so far most of the food we have eaten in Utah is terrible, not authentic, not worth our time or money to spend on. If you're looking for a good hangover breakfast in Orem, Callie's is the spot. It's about what you'd expect and seems to cater to the country-western-camoflauge-shotgun crowd, but that's fine by me so long as those portions and prices don't go up any time soon. Per the recommendation of a buddy, I ordered 'Callies Killer Hashbrown' and it's pretty much exactly how it sounds. Hashbrowns loaded with sautéed onions, mushrooms, ham, bacon and sausage topped with cheese and gravy. My boyfriend though, won at breakfast when he ordered the Special "Chili Cheese Omelette." Not only was this a massive omelette it also had a favorable ration of chili to cheese to egg. There were in fact several globs of cheese and chili that I helped myself to over the course of our breakfasts. If you're looking for a grease bomb to sop up those bubble guts, or just get a beer with breakfast in the area, pop by Callies and get er' done. read more
