If you're looking for a good hangover breakfast in Orem, Callie's is the spot. It's about what you'd expect and seems to cater to the country-western-camoflauge-shotgun crowd, but that's fine by me so long as those portions and prices don't go up any time soon. Per the recommendation of a buddy, I ordered 'Callies Killer Hashbrown' and it's pretty much exactly how it sounds. Hashbrowns loaded with sautéed onions, mushrooms, ham, bacon and sausage topped with cheese and gravy. My boyfriend though, won at breakfast when he ordered the Special "Chili Cheese Omelette." Not only was this a massive omelette it also had a favorable ration of chili to cheese to egg. There were in fact several globs of cheese and chili that I helped myself to over the course of our breakfasts. If you're looking for a grease bomb to sop up those bubble guts, or just get a beer with breakfast in the area, pop by Callies and get er' done. read more

I'm pretty disappointed in our experience here. I was looking for a new breakfast place to try out and according to the pictures the food looked good. I started with an orange juice and immediately it tasted strange. Like dirty rag water and orange juice. I got hashbrowns with biscuits and gravy. The hashbrowns had zero flavor and were mushy. My wife got hashbrowns and sausage mcfuffin looking Sandwhich. Her sausage was burnt and the cheese wasn't great. Only part I enjoyed was the biscuit. It was okay but not the best. One of my favorite little diners. I have never had a bad meal here, I'm not usually a breakfast person but their "killer hash browns" can be explained by the name. Absolutely killer!! Great environment, Western feel with a bunch of local paintings you can buy. They have a bar but it's separated from the main part of the restaurant so it's still a family friendly spot. Karaoke nights are always fun! The service is quick and they make sure you have everything you need, but I've had a couple waitress's with a bad attitude. My last visit I was eating with a couple friends and one of them had a fly in her water and she almost drank it... When I told the waitress she dumped the cup out and refilled it ugh. "Yeah that's fine I'll just keep drinking from a cup I found a bug in... No biggy" Are you kidding me?! Then nothing was done to try to make us happy after that, just an awkward "sorry". Good local feel. Coffee on the weaker side, with hearty breakfasts. Always prefer the local places to chain restaurants and you can tell this place serves the locals. Having grown up in Montana and worked in a lot of its smaller towns, Callie's Cafe is a perfect throwback to me of good food, and (maybe a little too) down to earth interior and service. It's what I love. I always get the killer hash browns of Mark's pitcher mound which is essentially biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage too. You know what you're getting in to here. Girl with the short dark brown hair has an attitude for NO REASON. The signs say "seat yourself" but they get pissed when you move chairs around. They could have asked us nicely to not do that but instead decided to be ignorant and treat customers badly by snapping at my boyfriend not to move them. Like wtf? Be nice? It's not hard??? We called ahead and asked what the wait time was for 8 people. They told us 10 minutes. Then we go in (and end up sitting separately due to them not letting us move a couple bar stools) and I can clearly see her talking badly about us and whining that there was 8 of us. Why do you think we called in earlier??? Why are you working there if you're going to be rude and complain about working? And speaking of working, I watched her. all she did was pick up a couple dirty places with a piss poor frown on her face the whole time. Other than that she didn't do anything. The food was great and the other waitresses were so so sweet but this girl needs a serious attitude check. I felt very unwelcome. The quality is hit or miss, but the only reason I would write a review is that the sign on the door says that someone has a health condition that doesn't allow them to wear a face mask. Was hoping for a hole-in-the-wall diner gem. Not quite. The service was friendly and to the point, you know, the smokers-voice type ladies that I quite like about a diner. Kind of a cluttery atmosphere if you seat yourself to the right of the door, next time (there won't be a next time) I'll choose left. Not really a family-friendly place. Kind of dark, more like a bar-diner. If the food had been good enough, I would come without the kiddos. Food: Hashbrowns were pretty good. I like an almost equal ratio to a crispy shred vs. a soft shred of hashbrown. This one was almost there, I've had worse, so I was good with these. The sourdough toast was good, but not with margarine. My over-medium eggs had clear runny whites. The biscuits on my biscuits and gravy were a grainy, weird texture. The gravy didn't seem homemade and was bland. The sausage was okay, but not my type. The orange juice was watered down. I mean, you could tell even visually, without tasting it, that it was watered down. Came in on a Sunday morning before my buddy's wedding party, so I was looking for a hearty meal to hold me over 'til dinnertime. Callie's delivered. Ordered a Chili Cheese Omelette (it was one of the daily specials that day) w/Hash Browns & a Biscuit as my toast option. It was awesome. All of it. The omelette had the right balance between eggs and chili/cheese, the hash browns were perfectly crunchy, and the biscuit was killer. Yo their butter is awesome too! Creamy and salty. Oooeee. Killer hash browns. Came here for a birthday breakfast after having scouted the area for any good cafe/diner spots and I was not disappointed. I don't recall the food being especially flavorful, but I was expecting a giant mess of a plate of food, and that's what I got. Their large portions drew me in and I came back a second time with some friends because the first time was a good experience. My second time coming the service was quite slow, but we felt bad for the older lady that was literally waitressing the entire place and seemingly the restaurant next door as well (she was busy!). They could definitely use some more staff for the busy times to keep all of us impatient people happy. It was dinner time for my second experience and karaoke was in full swing. read more

I came to this cafe for a late brunch to try Mark's Pitcher's Mound, which had been recommended to me by one of my housemates, and I wasn't disappointed---it was a nice heap of breakfasty deliciousness, including sausage links, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits, and gravy. It was not utterly amazing, but it was still entirely satisfying, and I'd gladly come do it again sometime. Great food............ the few times that they have decided it's actually been open. We used to come often, but lately it's been closed every Sunday we've tried even when it says open. I called yesterday, and they said they would be open. We drove half an hour to come but they wouldn't seat us over an hour before closing. The service is ridiculous. We like the food, which is the only reason for coming here. There's always been a wait even when no one was there but today just tops the cake. The service and staff are absolutely miserable. No food is worth it. The staff is ridiculously rude about it too and told us "they are never closed on Sundays." I would not recommend this place at all. read more

I live in Southern California but my family lives in Utah County and I come up every few months. I have breakfast here almost every time. This place reminds me of the Utah I used to visit in the late 60's and 70's as a kid. Some of the regulars are country folk hanging in their normal place. I miss that Utah. The food is good and portions are generous. The servers have been efficient and mostly friendly. If your real hungry, get the Pitchers Mound. They have a loaded hash brown dish that's good also. I tried this place for the first time today, both my son and I got the cake hi and we both got a side of hash browns each. Food was fantastic! Most waitress don't listen when you give specific cooking instructions on sausage/bacon/eggs. But she did and the cook(s) that prepared it, did an AWESOME job!!! Walking in the place was a seat your self. So we walked around looking for a table which most were empty but all of them were dirty. We found a table by the door that was clean so we sat down. I waited for the waitress to bring us a menu and made eye contact with the bus girl 5 times which she wasn't doing anything so she could have brought us a menu. After about 2 minutes of no menus we had to get up and ask for menus. Our waitress finally came and told us that she was the only one working which is fine if she is busy but her bus girl needs to help her a little more. Oh. My. Goodness. I don't know where to start. How about with the story that helped me find Callie's. I was supposed to drive up to this restaurant that is about an hour away only because my friends raved about how incredible it is. However, on the way up there, I noticed that my car started making this horrible sound. We pulled off the freeway and saw that the plastic guarding the undercarriage of my car on the right front side had come loose and was completely shredded, scraping against my tire while I drove. We tried to pin it back long enough for us to get to a tire place so that we could get something to tie the piece of plastic back well enough to last for a bit. But when we got to the tire place and got the whole thing situated, I decided that I didn't want to drive all the way up to Bountiful with only a few zip ties holding that thing up, so we decided to go see how much it would cost to fix. After that, we were friggin' starving and decided to go some place local...and local we found. We ended up at this place called Callie's Cafe. I don't know what I was thinking. We walked in and a white board that said "Seat Yourselves" was positioned on a chair. We sat down at a booth that looked like it was made in 1963 at the latest. Two tvs in the restaurant aired "Great American Country". Our waitress donned a tattoo on her hand - a coyote in front of a full moon. She was a pretty cool chic, and that's pretty much where any "pretty cool" moments end. I ordered the grilled roast beef on sourdough, thinking that it wouldn't be an entree soaked in grease - I was wrong. If you're looking for some greasy breakfast foods, this is the place for you! I'll be honest, I'm not a big breakfast person, I got a breakfast sandwich with ham on sourdough toast. My main complain is the toast was really just bread that may have touched the grill for a second. It was almost soggy and turned into a glue when mixed with the butter and grease from everything else. My husband got the pitchers mound which is basically a heap of everything breakfast covered on gravy. He thought it was really good. Prices are super cheap and service was great.
