The first time I ate here I had the grilled tri tip and it was so good I get it every time. Tender and flavorful, it's just delicious. It comes with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The mashed potatoes are pretty good, but they have a little too much seasoning for my taste. The broccolini is disappointing, however. It comes out cold and almost raw. It's so hard you have to cut it with a knife. The stalks are almost inedible. I love broccolini so I hope management sees this and makes some changes. Loved the outdoor seating especially because it was such a beautiful night however when we came in all of the seats were taken so it wasn't an option for us. What is K88? It is a really nice, casual, fast, upscale dining experience. They offer really good food in almost a cafeteria atmosphere. When you first arrive you are filtered through their cashier line to order your food. Your selection are what you would find at a nicer restaurant like steak, chicken, pork with all of the sides. Mashed potatoes, broccolini, asparagus, salads and more. After you order you take your number and go sit at a table in their nicely furnished dining area and they bring you your food. There is no server, you have to get your own drinks and it's all very low key. I believe that by doing this they have been able to keep their costs down and provide good quality food. Their prices were very reasonable. At the suggestion of the, very friendly, cashier I ordered the Grilled Tri-Tip steak. Although it had more a sous vide cooking feel to it and they did not ask how I like my steak cooked it was very tender with good flavor. It came with two sauces to dip in from a selection of five. I chose the peri peri and chimchuri. I would have preferred it a little more rare, it was at least medium well, and it was only slightly warm when served, I would have preferred it warmer. I had the broccolini and a side salad as sides. All for less than $19.00. My wife had the peri peri chicken, perfectly cooked, nice and tender. Good flavor with rice that was also very good. I hate to do this. I've LOVED K88 for years. They have always been a place for fresh, delicious food. But something has changed. The food is different. It's not quite as fresh as it used to be. The French fries are definitely not "hand cut" anymore. They're frozen. To say they're hand cut on the menu and offer frozen fries is a bit insulting. The salad I ordered recently was flavorless and watered down. It wasn't the same Cobb I've ordered for years. The steak was similar, but they didn't cut it against the grain, they cut it with the grain. It was tough and chewy. Last of all, prices for all of this downgraded food have gone up. We live just a walk away from here. Plenty of parking, easy access from the main road, and a welcoming environment. Upon entering the restaurant, you're immediately greeted. They're waiting for you at the register to take your order with smiling faces. The front end service is great, BUT the service of waiting tables is a little slow. I just always think, "it's common courtesy" to ask if there's anything else a table needs after delivering an order. And if you need any extra condiments you'll need to get back up to the cashier and ask for them. Although, that's what we ended up doing. And then waiting while other customers are being rung up for their orders, it gets a little difficult to quickly receive the needed condiments. The food is decent. For me, probably not worth the price. You can find some pretty good burgers and soups/salads for a few bucks cheaper than here. I mean, if the food was WOW!! It would be worth the price. But it was, average. For me. Maybe there are people who like to spend a lot on "average" meals. As picky as I am, I'm not one of those people. Don't let me be your party pooper. So I have to start by saying I'm a big fan and I've only been twice! The food has been awesome both times and the juices are good and unique. I've been for lunch and had their great big Cobb salad and also for a date night with an appetizer, main course and dessert.
