J. Alexander's has been disappointing lately. Something has changed. More recently we experienced poor quality (seemed old and oddly "seared") seared ahi tuna and barely warm bread pudding ( seemed to have not been heated properly after coming from the freezer). So many people coming and going to the table one is not sure exactly who the "server" is anymore. In spite of that, however, it seemed that the dirty dishes on the table would never get picked up, so we had to put up with those for an extremely long time. Two family members became Ill with digestive upset that night, although I can't say for certain it was due to the food there. This has been one of our more usual restaurants, however now going to stop going for awhile and hope for improvement. read more

I was on business in Brentwood and came here for dinner on a busy Saturday evening and was told there would be about an hour wait. We strolled over to the bar area and enjoyed a drink as we waited for our table. Soon enough we were called to our table and were seated. I opted for the prime rib and asked instead of smashed potatoes could I have a loaded baked potato? No issues and soon I was cutting into a tender prime rib and enjoying a delicious loaded baked potato. All in all, it was an enjoyable dinner. read more

The food is ALWAYS great. The ambience is OK; I feel the music is too loud (although I like the eclectic mix) and it's almost always too cold for me, even in the summer. The food is always good here!! My favorite is the salads and dressings. Normally, I go for a chicken sandwich, French dip or burger. Tonight I had their chicken plate with orzo rice and side salad. Most people that eat at J Alexander's are repeat customers. We had not been there in a few years (we don't have one where we live) so we needed to look at the menu for a moment. The assistant server took our drink order and assumed we were ready to order a starter. I can appreciate that but I wasn't ready in this case. The server came and introduced himself and we then ordered our starter. He knew we would start with the queso. I had Nashville hot chicken (when in Rome) and my wife had tuna. We had a bottle of Talbot Chardonnay and the rest is history. I wish we had one near us. I wish we had anything near us! read more

COVID-19 Dining Experience No usual beach or cruise holiday weekend due to the Rona, but I wanted to have a memorable time with family and friends. We enjoyed a day of shopping, site seeing, and worked up an appetite. Of course I got out voted as the majority wanted J Alexander's. Saturday night was a 45 min. wait and I received a text when our table was ready. I always love the ambience and great service. I have never had a bad experience at this location. Staff wore masks and social distancing enforced. Unfortunately there are no vegan options, unless you want a plain baked potato and salad with no dressing. No thank you. Meat, salmon, dairy, and more meat. If I am going to cheat I am going all in with no substitutions. Refer to the food and drink menu online. I was feeling bougie so I started with an Apple Martini $13.00. Love the liquor sweet black berry at the bottom. I ordered the filet mignon medium well, baked potato with toppings on the side $40.00, and a ceasar salad $6.00. I had to send my steak back because it was overcooked but the server apologized and quickly rectified it by bringing out another steak 10 mins. later. It was perfect. Our table shared the baby back ribs $29.00. Absolutely delicious. Two years later and J Alexander's [Franklin] is still one of my favorite restaurants. read more

If you love a swanky, trendy atmosphere that has Delicious food & Top Notch service than this place is a must for you! I usually sit at the bar with my husband or even when I fly solo when he is traveling. All of the bartenders are the best in the biz but I have to give a shout out to my favorites so far, Ben & Brittney are AWESOME! They are very attentive & personable yet know when you need to just chill... . I almost always get the Crab cakes & a sub the fries for a Caesar Salad ( their dressing is out of this world so ask for a 'lil extra on the side ). My husband loves their burger & chicken. J.Alexander's has a great wine selection & although I have not ordered one yet the Bartenders or should I say, Mixologists, mix up a lot of martinis that look so good! Excellent meal and good service. I had the crab cakes, which were large and tasty. Instead of fries, I substituted the wild rice & orzo combination. It is served cold & was delicious. Ordered the cheeseburger well done. It arrived pretty much rare. Sent it back, took more than 20 minutes for another burger to arrive. A little less than a quarter was missing on the patty, which had also been cut in half. Patty barely had any cheese on it. I should have just ask for it to be taken off our bill as everyone else had already finishing eating. The "manager on duty" (3 pc suit) brought it out and simply said "sorry about the wait". Server never came back and ask how it was. Can no longer recommend J.Alexanders to friends/family that visit our area. I will not be returning to this establishment, too many other places with better service and customer care. read more

We were celebrating my daughters birthday with my family. My one daughter ordered a pizza which was served cold (I've gotten a hotter pizza being delivered to my house) my oldest daughter was eating her veggie burger and almost broke her tooth on a rib bone that was in the veggie burger!!!! Why would a meat bone be in a veggie burger? The waitress went and told the manager but he never came over to explain to us or apologize. They took the burger off our bill but my daughter left the restaurant hungry. She could have broken a tooth or worse choked on a bone. I think that is pretty serious to not even address the situation with us from management. read more

I wanted to love this place, I really did, but I had more disappointments than expected. We were told that they served bread while we waited for our food and the waiter came in by twice saying it was in the oven. We never got it. I ordered the rattlesnake, nowhere on the menu did it say it was a pasta dish. I was okay when it came out but not all the noodles were cooked all the way. I hardly ate it and didn't ask for a to-go box. Probably won't be back here. Just a sad experience for such a nice place. read more

They refill drinks quickly, the atmosphere is nice (albeit a little dark), and I've not ever had a bad experience there. Honestly, there isn't a more consistent or multiple-pallet pleasing restaurant in Nashville. I've eaten at this location dozens of times and have never been disappointed (except when they took the smoked salmon appetizer off the menu). Best salads I've ever had. Thai Kai and the Grilled Chicken are exceptional. Steak Maui is to die for. Killer burgers and French dip sandwich. You really can't go wrong. However recently, I found something new at the Cool Springs location only: artisan pizza!! Their pizza has the best crust pizza I've ever had. Period. It's a nepoletanna style pizza - so understand it's not NY pizza. I would much prefer this pizza to anything I've had - anywhere. It's truly bizarre that this level of pie is at a restaurant like j. The pork chop was very good. It was bone it, basically 2 rib cut. Service was good and it was walking distance from the hotel.

Food was expensive and disgusting. Our waiter never brought us our requested condiments and the veggie burger was disgusting my husband said. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was ok but the slaw was stringy and hard to swallow as it got stuck in my throat. My daughter said the the chicken tenders were good. Last time we went we ordered a dessert maybe called the good stuff. It was something along those lines.. and it was truly a delish mountain of ice cream.
