Absolutely amazing. I was actually on yelp reading through reviews in which steak I should get. This kebab was on the special menu (was on regular before). I've asked for medium rare, and switched the mashed potatoes for loaded baked potatoes & extra side. The steak was so tender and sooo flavorful, cooked right into perfection. We are locals, and go there about once a month, but...they have gone downhill a lot, our last meal there for dinner, my wife had a pork chop, which was so salty, she did not eat it at all, took one bite out and gave it to my so for his dog. I had a prime rib ordered medium rare, it came out looking grey and dead, it was disgusting. I ordered a VO Manhattan for an adult refreshment, they no longer have VO, so I changed to regular Seagrams, they always offer a sidecar. This time the glass was half full, so was the side car. The food was exceptional and service by our waiter, Seth, was amazing. We are from Minnesota and our Franklin friends brought us because they serve some of the best steaks and food in Nashville area. I have been here a couple of times with my colleagues. Since it was lunch with vendors, we always came in as a group of 10. The reason I'm only giving this a 4 star and not a 5 is, they don't accommodate more than 8 people. They give you a round table where hardly 8 people can sit. If you guys fix this, I'll give you a 5-star. The food here is good. The last I went to J. Alexander's was in Memphis. I ordered rotisserie chicken there and, it wasn't that good. So, this time, I ordered the barbecue baby back ribs. Beware, that is a whole RACK of ribs. You can see it in the picture. But, I LOVED the ribs. They were so well cooked. WARNING! FOOD POISONING! (Cool Springs Location) My husband and I ate here earlier this week, and became violently ill within minutes of eating. The reason I know it was J Alexander's is because that was the only meal I had eaten that day. To alert them to the problem, I contacted the manager, (Keith, apparently) to tell him that I got food poisoning from fish I ate there, became extremely ill, and was eventually hospitalized in the ER later that evening. When I spoke with him, he seemed unsurprised, saying simply "OK, Thanks"....with no questions about the incident. He reacted as if I told him the bathroom needs toilet paper, not that he just hospitalized a customer due to food poisoning. His response made me think he either doesn't care, or must get phone calls about food poisoning all the time. Either way, it's bad news. Hubby and I returned to J Alexander's and thankfully had a reservation, because at 5:20 there was an hour and a half wait. We were seated right away. When scanning the menu, I realized that there are not really very many choices for those of us who eat gluten free. So when our server came I asked if I could get the fish tacos grilled and served on lettuce rather than a tortilla. She said no problem (they are listed as fried on the menu), when they arrived they were grilled but they were on a flour tortilla...so back they went, and they had to cook me another order while my hubby ate his dinner. Maybe I am being unusually picky, but it does get old when you have done all you can to get a meal to fit your needs, and then both parties end up eating alone due to the mix up. Upscale chain restaurant chain with hostesses in black dresses, waitstaff in black and white and actual linen napkins, J Alexander's is a good step above the fast casual you might expect from the Friday/Tuesday/Chili/Applebee crowd. Good menu of entrees, and while I kinda wanted a burger, I let myself be talked into the steak and frites. Cooked as ordered (medium rare), it was a good cut and a good piece of beef. Easy to slice and eat. The shoestring fries are also good, though salty and a little challenging to eat with a fork. The winner here is the carrot cake, though after one bite I scraped all of the frosting off to the side. It really doesn't need all of that *extra* sugar on top of what is already a sweet and moist cake. I'm not sure why they serve the club soda out of bottles. Doesn't the dispenser at the bar have a button for that? A nice, fancy meal with a fancy price. Soda, steak and dessert, $40. read more

So a very disappointing meal. I will say the house salad was The Best!! (Only reason for the third star) So in the mood for a great salad...go! The server was on top of drinks and super friendly. I had the NY Strip, rare, it came with NYO mac n cheese. The steak while cooked correctly was desperate for salt! There was zero seasoning...wait there was a pad of seasoned butter placed in top. Filet Mignon This was the only resturant I trusted to serve a really wonderful steak. On Sept. 19, 2022 at about 4:30 PM ( so they were not busy) my wife and I ordered the filet done medium. Though only very slightly overcooked, both steaks were very dry and tasteless. When I told the waiter who asked how everything was, he simply said he was sorry. My family loves j.alexandars and since moving to TN this location has been our take out go to for at least once a month... With that said I am writing this review with a negative tone in hopes that they fix this issue. Recently when we order an Alex salad or loaded baked potato or sandwich or prime rib or anything.... The food does not include a side, toppings or garnish. I noticed a trend recently of getting my food home only to find a few items missing. I now feel the need to check the bag for completeness in my car before leaving which does not seem acceptable based on the menu pricing and the additional tip I always give. Before I would just eat without a completed meal as I live 20+ minutes away. Today I ordered 2 side loaded baked potatoes only to find the "loaded" toppings missing. I go back in and the manager tells me "you didn't ask for a loaded baked potato". I definitely ordered a loaded baked potato as that is literally what it is on the menu. I simply clicked on what I wanted.. what the app shows is not my problem and should not be something you try to call me out on. Further I got home and my other items were missing sauce or condiments. Again, I like this restaurant and this literally feels like a recent Trend of leaving components out and challenging me when I pick up. Not acceptable but I'm only asking the location to review their processes as the ownership of quality and accuracy should not fall to me. read more

Had a very romantic and wonderful dinner with my wife. I had Prime Rib and asked for an end cut. Was so tender and had great taste and a mountain of mashed potatoes! My wife had the BBQ chicken pizza with caramelized onions and Gouda cheese... was VERY good! We started off the dinner with the grilled artichokes... a must! Topped it off with a slab of carrot crack we shared. It's served warm and was fantastic! Took about half of everything home. A definite return is in the future. Enjoyed a hot chicken sandwich with added pepper jack cheese and a cocktail. The service from Emma was attentive, friendly and welcoming. It was clear to see a Emma cares about her guests, the brand and the experience- thank you. The shoe string fries were perfect and a very generous serving size. For years all anyone ever talks about is how AMAZING J Alexander's is, and how it's SO superior to other steak houses. I'm very wary of chain steak houses, so I have never cared to try J's by myself, but I tagged along to a dinner the other night after reading the menu beforehand - the menu has many options and a ton of great salads (which is what I wanted). We ordered queso with spinach to start. Everyone at the table (minus 1) said it was usually really good, but this day it was more runny. I'll admit, I liked it, but it totally tasted like velveeta.... so fancy for a steakhouse! Our waitress was friendly enough, but I was a little annoyed she kept calling me "miss." Maybe that's their protocol but it was strange to me. I'm 29.... please don't call me, "miss." The other three people at my table ordered 2 French dips, and chicken tenders as their meal. I ordered a Thai Kai Salad. The waiters brought everyone's food at the same time.... except mine. The salad. Thinking they'd be coming right out with it, I patiently waited, but minutes go by and it doesn't come. After a few minutes the waitress comes by and says it should be out soon. I then see her whisper to another waitress, they both look at me and walk off. I am assuming my order was either not put in or forgotten about. I got my salad about 5 minutes after everyone else got their food. The manager brought it over, but didn't acknowledge I had been waiting. It kind of annoyed me but I didn't say anything. The waitress then didn't come back for another 10 minutes or so, and when she did she didn't even bother to apologize for the wait or ask if everything was ok. I really wasn't mad but she could have acknowledged I got my SALAD later than everyone. A freaking SALAD, y'all. The food was good, and my salad had a wonderful flavor, but the service was mediocre and while I don't expect a free meal or anything - just a simple acknowledgement I had to wait on my food would have been polite. 5 minutes doesn't seem long but it is when you ordered a salad and everyone at your table has received their food. I'd go back but this experience was a 3.5 star for me. read more

The food at J Alexanders was OK. We ordered the prime rib which was nothing special with side of mashed potatoes which were yummy. The service was OK. Server was attentive and took care of of our order. She did not make sure every detail of table setting as I expected of that caliber meal. My husband told them it was our anniversary when reservation was made, but there was no mention of our celebration. The smoked salmon appetizer tasted like canned salmon with liquid smoke as an ingredient. It was OK but definitely not what I expected. read more
