A bit pricey, but also well worth it. The amount of food they give is great. I ordered a side Caesar salad that was large enough to be a meal in and of itself. For my entree, I ordered the rattlesnake pasta. Very cheesy and delicious. I was told by my family members who tasted it that it was spicy, but as I eat spicy food multiple times a week, none of the spice registered with me. Regardless, good portion size and delicious. We also ordered the cornbread, and let me tell you; the cornbread changed my life. Buttery, slightly sweet, with a hint of jalapeño is what you get and it is worth the extra calories. I also ordered a lemon drop martini and it definitely came packed with the alcohol. Overall, I enjoyed J. Alexander. I was pretty disappointed with this location of J Alexanders. I've been to the one on West End and it was great, so when choosing a nicer restaurant for my moms birthday dinner, I thought we would be fine at the one in cool springs. There wasn't really anything horrible that happened, it just wasn't "great". I felt that the decor inside wasn't as nice as the one downtown and our service was just mediocre. I ordered steak and mac and cheese. And my steak was just ok, nothing special about it. And the mac and cheese tasted like elevated velveeta (super disappointed about that!). My mom got the thai salad and enjoyed it, so that was good. Since it was her birthday, they gave her a piece of carrot cake, and it was disgusting. Never order the carrot cake. I might try this place again, but honestly, I'd just rather drive an extra 10 miles and go downtown. read more

Best thing about this restaurant...was leaving! 1 out of 10, they get a negative 50. I used to be a fan of J. Alexander's and always looked forward to eating there. Great food, service and atmosphere. I guess things have changed at the Cool Springs location. I ordered a burger and asked the waitress to add bacon, my wife ordered the grilled salmon. Let me list the issues. 1. Hostess acted like she was to good for us, did not make us feel welcomed 2. Waitress seemed like she did not want to be there and it showed in her attitude and lack of service 3. Food was sub-par, at best a. Salmon was undercooked 4. After our food was brought to the table, we were never asked how our food was, and if we needed anything. 5. Waitress never came to check on us. I had to flag down the manager, because our waitress was nowhere to be found. a. I had added bacon to my burger but it was not on there when it was brought to the table. Since the waitress was MIA, I flagged down the manager. He came to the table and asked what I needed. I told him I needed bacon added to my burger, as I had ordered. He took the burger to the kitchen and had bacon added. No apology, and seemed irritated that I had bothered him. 6. The waitress finally came by our table after we had finished our meal. Didn't ask how it was, only asked if we wanted desert. 7. Table smelled Like wet rag. I have felt more welcomed and received better service at McDonald's....so that should tell you a lot about how we were treated. Maybe it's because we're Asian, maybe they're racists, maybe they just hate their job, maybe they hate their life? Either way, their job is providing customer service and they get an F. J Alexander's was nice! Post iron maiden concert we enjoyed the grilled artichoke app which was unique. Service was attentive on a busy Wednesday lunch hour. This would be a good place for a business lunch. We ordered Bloody Marys which were weak and just meh. I wanted a salt rim and wasn't offered the option. It's the restaurant that brings the warm wet napkins to clean up after messy artichokes. I don't remember what my sorority sisters got. I got the pimento cheese and bacon sandwich which was really good. I like bacon to be super crispy which this wasn't. That's okay. I didn't expressly order super crispy. Everything is great!!!! The best restaurant and food in Memphis. This is my favorite restaurant to visit because they never disappoint.

I have never been to J. Alexander's when the hostess literally just stood and stared at a screen while her counterpart made sure every table was ready and seated everyone! This restaurant offers consistently good food and good service. I love that the waiting area is large enough to accommodate those who are waiting and that the staff at the check in area are ALWAYS polite and attentive to the guests. I have ordered several different options during the many times I've visited and have never been disappointed, ever. My only complaint--which is minor--is that we only get "frequent diner" credit on dine-in meals. My husband orders a huge grilled chicken salad every Wednesday evening, 44 weeks out of 52, but that doesn't count towards any frequent meal credits. Doesn't deter us in the least from going back because the food and service are worth it. read more

Met a client this afternoon and ordered the Special, Halibut with Lemon sauce, to go. I just ate the fish, at home and found 6 bones. Luckily, I didn't swallow any. I called and spoke to Tim , the manager on duty. He said the fish is brought in fresh and that they "make every attempt to get all the bones out". I appreciate that but be aware of the halibut. This is my experience only. I have never had a bad experience here. I love this place. Always plenty of workers. The food is great. It's pricey but I will pay more for nice ambiance, fast service and great food. I always get the French dip or the pork tenderloin with bang bang sauce. My wife always get the steak & fries. Made reservations for a Wednesday night at 9pm, and ended up being ready for dinner earlier and moved the reservation to 8:15. When we arrived at 8, we were seated right away. This was my first time at a J Alexander's; but it's my friends favorite restaurant in Nashville, so he knew just what he wanted. We got the artichokes as a starter and they were fabulous! For my entree I got the French dip with fries and it was even better than they starter! The fries were thin and crispy and the bread on the sandwich was soft. We've ventured to J's a few times previously. The latest was last Saturday was for my best friend's birthday. Her sister had made reservations for 8, and we were the first ones there, a few minutes early and our table was already ready. I love when reservations are honored. I really like the ambiance and feel of the restaurant, its really dim with huge windows into the kitchen. It smells heavenly. When everyone arrived, we ordered some appetizers - salmon dip and cheese dip. Both were delicious. The salon dip had little fillers and well balanced. For my entree, I had the prime rib with mac-and-cheese. I've gotta say, I've had better. It actually came out room temperature/borderline cold, and it was a bit chewy and needed just a bit more seasoning. The mac-and-cheese never disappoints. And my husband enjoyed his chicken salad. Other than the prime rib, we had a good experience. The staff are extremely attentive and nice. We stayed there for a good 3.5 hours, and brought in our own wine and cake, which they offered to refrigerate. We didn't feel at all rushed to leave and even had some patrons join us in signing Happy Birthday. read more

My husband and I live in franklin and have been regulars at J Alexander's and it truly has been our "go to" restaurant. Unfortunately, we recently had an awful experience and had a hard time finding a way to get in touch with corporate to share. I took my father there for a nice dinner on a busy night and we ordered an artichoke that wasn't quite done. I politely asked that it be put on a little longer, which it was. When it came back out we continued to eat it and then a cockroach fell out of the next leaf I pulled. Our waitress was fantastic and handled this well. She told the manager and took the food away as we didn't even want a new one at this point. Sadly the manager came over to discuss it with us and was very condescending. He shared that although he was sorry this happened, he said it's very unusual because they check each leaf of the artichokes before cooking and this never happens. Although I know it doesn't happen because I visit often, he made us feel like it was our fault rather than making the situation better. I am not looking for free food, nor do I need it, but he made us feel like we were hoping for that. We remained very polite, finished the other food that we had and then left. Most of my friends also visit this location and were shocked to hear what happened as they're usually very professional. Regardless of this review for the Franklin site which we all will not visit again, we will continue to go to the Nashville location. We do love the food and hope we don't run into this at the other locations. read more

You can't go wrong EVER with J Alexanders for a business lunch or a dinner night with friends. For lunch, I'm a huge fan of the chicken sandwich. For dinner, the pork loin and rattlesnake pasta are always solid choices. J Alexander's wait staff understand the art of stealth service. You rarely see them drop off a refill and they never insert themselves into the conversation. Each are obviously trained to be efficient, kind and thorough. Dessert. Oh my, the desserts. Two of my favorite desserts in the Nashville area are here. Carrot Cake. Chocolate Bar Cake. It's a hard choice, but the carrot cake typically wins. My only criticism is the dining room is way too dark for lunch. It hurts walking outside in the sun after. This was my first time phere and it was recommended by a friend. The wait staff was so knowledgeable about the specials and great service. I had the Prime Rib dinner. When my meal came to me, it was a beautiful presentation but was lukewarm. The potatoes were so dry and unflavored that I couldn't even eat them. My prime rib was cooked perfectly but had no flavor whatsoever and also lukewarm. The best thing about this meal was the Key lime Pie. I had better prime rib elsewhere. For the service and desserts I give them an A+, but for my prime rib meal a C-. Maybe the chef was just having a bad day. I will try a different day and time again to eat at this restaurant and let you know. read more

They require you to go in, order at the bar and sit for 30 minutes. I do not understand why the discourage business because you can't dine in. Usually a great experience. I went the other day, gave my order and it was brought to the table. It wasn't what I ordered, but close. My server, who was really nice, indicated that I could eat the food or it would be tossed out. I said that I didn't want to waste food, so I would just eat the mistake and get what I had originally ordered to go and just eat that the next day. My server apologized for the mix up and that was it. When I was given my bill, the server said that I was charged for everything even though what I ordered was not what I was given. I go here a lot so I didn't want to complain about it. Just seems stupid that I was charged for what they were going to throw out. I'm pretty sure that the person who took my order was not my eventual server. So that person was at fault. read more
