    Thai Kai Salad
    Jeff D.

It's usually best to have reservations if you want to eat here. We arrived a little early and stopped by the bar for a drink before dinner. The bartender was very attentive and quick. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was very good. After that, we moved to our table. For my entrée, I went with my usual, the Thai Kai Chicken Salad. As always, it was excellent with amazing flavor. My wife ordered the French Dip. It looked good, but they definitely skimped on the meat--check out the photos and you'll see what I mean. Our friend started with Alex's Salad and then had the Steak 'N' Fries. She said it was very good with great flavor. The fries were plentiful and tasty, which is always a plus. During the course of the meal, my wife ordered wine twice. Both times it took quite a while for the waiter to bring it. Not sure where the delay happened, but it was noticeable. Now on to dessert--the warm carrot cake with buttercream icing. It was amazing and a great way to finish the meal. Normally this place is a solid four-star spot for me, but with the slow wine service and the light portion on the French Dip, I had to drop it down a bit this time. Still a good place, just not quite as strong of a visit as usual.

    Steak Maui with fries

Not what it used to be. We got the steak Maui. The steak was tasty but not very tender. The fries were pretty good but the spaghetti squash was extremely bland. The ceaser and house salad was just ok. This place used to blow me away when I'd eat there. Things have changed unfortunately.

    J Alexander Salad w/blackened chicken

Visited this J Alexander's while in TN and enjoyed the ambiance and food! I wish they had a kids menu but they did have some kid entrees but no menu for the kiddos they just tell you verbally what dishes they offer in kid size portions. My daughter got the kids Alfredo pasta and while it wasn't bad it was way too much sauce. My chicken that I added on to the house salad seemed like the seasoning was added on after it was cooked/grilled which I thought was odd. Overall a good experience.

Very good food and service in a fast semi casual setting. This place is always busy for a reason.

Good food, great service! They could work on the cleaning aspect. There was an enormous amount of crumbs in between the seat cushions of the booth. Other than that it's a quality place. We went for lunch and got right in on a Saturday.

You know that feeling when you're all dressed up, ready for an amazing evening, and you step into what you think will be the perfect spot for a great meal? That's exactly where my mindset was as I strolled into J. Alexander's, arm in arm with my stunning companion. I had heard great things about this place--buzzwords like "elevated dining" and "sophistication" were thrown around. But let me tell you, the reality? A plot twist I wasn't ready for. The first act of this culinary theater? The host stand. It was less "welcome, let's wow you" and more "why are you here, we're trying to go home." Purses on the counter, faces that said "clocked out in spirit"--the energy was less Michelin-starred and more gas station at midnight. But I thought, "Okay, don't judge the book by its cover. Let's push through." So we did. Walking to our table, the vibe shifted from dimly lit ambiance to "why is it this dark--are they hiding something?" We finally sat down and met our server, Samantha, who must've been attending the School of Minimal Effort. After about 7 minutes waiting, a quick "hello," and she was off, leaving us to stare at each other wondering if she'd ever come back. But hey, I wasn't going to let that ruin the night. Yet... For starters, we went with the ahi poke. Now, the poke itself? A faint whisper of Hawaii's beaches, sweet and slightly refreshing. But the lettuce boats? Oh, lawd! They looked like they were snatched straight from the clearance bin, at random, of a grocery store. Limp, some lifeless, and begging for mercy. Presentation matters, and this one screamed "meh." My companion, a beacon of grace, ordered the veggie burger without a bun. When it arrived, it was... well, let's just say the plating channeled a strong "hospital food" aesthetic. But despite its looks, she enjoyed it. I, on the other hand, opted for the blue cheese-crusted New York strip with a loaded baked potato. When it hit the table, I thought, "Now we're talking!" But alas, this steak was all bark and no bite. Decently plated, but where was the seasoning? It was like biting into a symphony that never left the first note. The blue cheese crust tried to save it, but even that couldn't redeem the lack of flavor. The loaded baked potato? The saving grace of the evening--hard to mess up, right? By this point, dessert was off the table--both figuratively and literally. Samantha's vibe was more "are we done yet?" than "can I tempt you with something sweet?" so we called it a night. Here's the thing: J. Alexander's could be great. It has the setting, the potential, and the menu to wow. But what we experienced was far from polished or professional. Instead of a night to remember, it felt like a night I'd rather forget. Final thoughts? If you're going to charge premium prices, you better bring premium everything--flavor, service, and energy. Sadly, J. Alexander's missed the mark on all three. For now, I'm sticking to the places that understand a dining experience isn't just about food--it's about making you feel like you belong. Would I come back? Let's just say, I'm not rushing. But hey, maybe they'll turn things around. Until then, I'll be searching for a steakhouse that delivers both style and substance.

I had a great time dining here for my dad's birthday!! The artichoke was incredible, I seriously recommend giving it a try!! I ordered a sausage pizza that was just as delicious. Our server was sweet and the restaurant was nice, but not overly nice! Overall a pretty good experience.

My "medium" steak that came out burnt/well.
    Racquel S.

Love this location typically. On my last visit I asked for a medium cook on my strip and was brought a burnt/well done steak. Sent it back which took forever to get the new one after an already initially long wait during the lunch rush. Waitress said she misheard me on the cook temp. They gave a free dessert for the issue, but I feel due to the excessive wait it should have just been comped instead.

The steak sandwich is served on a ciabatta roll. It has Filet mignon, Gruyere cheese, grilled red pepper & onions, garlic mayo, and creamy horseradish. The house salad has Romaine, arcadia blend, heirloom cherry tomatoes, carrot ribbons, cheddar cheese, bacon, garlic croutons, and watermelon radishes (which are an added bonus because they aren't in salads I've ordered at other places. ) The house roasted jalapeno honey vinaigrette put this salad over the top. I was hesitant to order, by the name of it. I thought it may be too spicy, but it's not spicy at all. It has the best flavor, and I have to admit I order the salad sometimes just because I have such a craving for that yummy dressing. I've never had anything like it, anywhere else. The grilled cheese sandwich is different too. It's served on Challah bread with garlic butter. It has bacon, roasted tomatoes, sharp cheddar cheese, and avocado. I wouldn't normally order a grilled cheese at restaurants, but I look forward to eating this one! My friend ordered the garlic bread appetizer for us, which was good too. It was Sourdough bread with garlic, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. It was served with house-made marinara. The marinara made me wish I had more of it and some pasta to serve it on. We finished our meal off with crème brûlée. Yum! I've never ordered anything at this place, and it not be delicious. I hope I can eventually venture out on the menu, because I'm sure every item I try will not disappoint. To add, if you want really good service in a very nice atmosphere, go here.

This was the email I sent: "Two friends and I had a 7:15 PM reservation at Culaccino on January 10. Our server was Lee. Things started out fine, but we found ourselves quickly being subjected to Lee's somewhat aggressive approach to service. He honestly was the least personable server I've ever experienced, and had a very condescending manner. A misunderstanding occurred on my friend's order. She was brought a dish with pork in it, which was not what she ordered. Mistakes happen, but Lee was not at ALL nice or accommodating about it, laying the blame on her, and bringing it up multiple times during our meal, with a snarky and resentful undertone. After we paid, he walked up, dropped our checks, and walked away without a word. It was the first time in my life I've ever been tempted to leave zero tip. My conscience for some reason would not allow me to follow through on this, but it was as undeserved as any gratuity I've ever left. We wanted dessert, but we ended up going elsewhere due to how we'd been treated. We also had no clue we would be charged $6 a person for water! Perhaps something that could be mentioned during the ordering process. I've honestly never had a more disappointing dining experience. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and had hoped to come back for a date night, but our experience left such a bad impression, I can't imagine spending additional money here. I'm not sure if other diners have had this experience with Lee, but we certainly did not feel welcome or valued as customers and felt it was important to make you aware." The food was fine, but most dishes needed salt- so basic. The lack of response from management, however, really says everything one needs to know about Culaccino. I'd truly recommend spending your dining dollars elsewhere.

Not a big deal, though it was badly over dressed, so whatever salad we order (or whatever we're served) in the future, it'll be dressing on the side. After having a tough time deciding what to order on our first visit, I went with the tuna. The tuna slices were nicely rare though the dish was very bland. A pop of pickled ginger on the side, but some wasabi, or even a hit of salt, would have helped a lot, and the dipping sauce was off and bland, could have really used some more soy sauce. Wife got the crab cakes. The cakes were really nice jumbo lumps, very good quality, and the shoestring fries delightful (though I might order them well done next time for a bit of extra crunch). I ordered the filet Oscar with the special sauce they had and was wowed by all the flavor and the cook on the steak. The chef really knows what he's doing here. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake and the crème brûlée. Both fantastic! This is now my favorite place in Franklin's dm cannot wait to be back.
