Signature tonkotsu ramen
Mei Lan M.

Checked out the new Ikkousha on Sunday. The space is bright, modern and cheerful. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the signature tonkotsu ramen and some takoyaki. The ramen was delicious and the portion size was pretty decent. I enjoyed the takoyaki too. My kids love this place and I will be bringing them back to check out the newer location.

This Japanese restaurant specializes in ramen, especially pork (tonkotsu). The style of tonkotsu reman comes from Hakata district of Fukuoka, Japan. It is known for its very thin, slightly firm noodles and rich, milky pork bone broth. There are minimal toppings to make it easy and fast to eat. This style of ramen is believed to be developed by port labourers and other workers in 1930s, as an affordable and quick meal. This is their second location in Toronto that specializes in pork. There is a third location that specializes in chicken ramen. They have so many locations worldwide. They soft-opened on 2025-05-07 and will grand-open on 2025-05-17. During the grand-opening, the first 50 customers will get one ramen bowl ($16-$17) for free. Additional toppings or snacks are extra. You order on a slip of paper, one sheet per person. You can see their menu online via a QR code but you can't order from there. My wife and I tried out this location for the first time on 2025-05-13. I came back again on 2025-05-14. On the first visit, we ordered the following: 1. Black Tonkotsu ($17). 2. Gyokai Tonkotsu ($17). 3. Homemade Gyoza 10pcs ($12). 4. Fried Chicken (Karaage) 3pcs ($8). We chose hard noodle texture and light saltiness for both bowls. We also added flavoured egg (+$3) to each bowl. 5. Green Tea ($3). 6. Coke Zero ($3). The flavoured egg was soft boiled. I left mine in the broth longer to make it more hard boiled. There are many condiments on each table: gyoza sauce, ramen sauce (salty), sesame seeds, Yuzu pepper, black pepper, garlic, ginger, and takana. I liked the takana, ramen sauce, and sesame seeds (best with the Black Tonkotsu). The Black Tonkotsu has black coloured tonkotsu broth. It gets it's colour from charcoal edging garlic and house blended black sesame oil. There is Ikkousha's original noodles, tender pork cha-chu, black fungus, and spring onions. I put sesame seeds in it, which added to the taste. The Gyokai Tonkotsu is a special combination of pork, chicken, and fish broth. It is served with thick noodles, pork cha-chu, bamboo shoots, seaweed, and spring onions. The ingredients were good. The Gyoza was very good. The Fried Chicken was very crispy, which is liked. It came with a Karaage Spice (homemade) that you can dip the chicken in. On the second visit, I ordered the following: 1. Spicy Miso Tonkotsu ($17), chose less spicy. I comes with the thicker noodles, and I chose the noodle texture to be hard. I chose light salty for the broth. 2. Iced Tea (Fuze) ($3). The Spicy Miso Tonkotsu gets it's rich umami flavours from red miso and the in-house spice blend, paired with their signature Tonkotsu broth. It comes with Ikkousha's original thick noodles, tender pork cha-shu, bamboo shoots, bean sprout, and green onion. This was perfect in the spice level. I added takana and a little ramen sauce. The meat and noodles were perfect. I drank all of the broth! The Japanese practice of Kaedama is when you are more hungry for just one bowl of ramen. You order Extra Noodles ($3), called kaedama, when you leave some broth behind when you finish your first portion. Then the additional noodles (and maybe some ramen sauce) can be eaten with the ramen broth. Some people order rice instead of noodles. The restaurant uses pork bone soup in 4 big pots. They are simmered for 20 hours. All ramen bowls are dairy-free and peanut-free. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. There are two high chairs for little children. Review 2025-087

It's always a great time at Ikkousha. I needed a dinner spot asap after walking around the mall and noticed that Ikkousha opened a new location right beside Cotti Coffee. The food was great as per usual. My favourite thing to order is the god fire level 1 spicy. As for toppings I enjoy eating my ramen with the ramen sauce, sesame seeds, and garlic. Service was friendly and the food arrived quick. The layout of the restaurant is similar to the other Ikkousha locations. However at this location, there is only one large washroom (as far as I'm aware of).

Heard all the hype about how good this ramen place was so I had to try. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The ramen was so good and I typically prefer thick noodles but the thin noodles for this dish had the perfect bite to them (I picked hard for the softened of the noodles). Also, the broth was so creamy and well balance. I drank every last drop, which I typically don't. The menu isn't complicated but there are a good variety and options for those who are vegetarian. The atmosphere was lively with staff calling out orders and bringing out food very promptly. You order with a paper slip and the process was very smooth and organized. I liked that the seats were labelled so they knew exactly which ramen belonged to what person. They've only been open for a few weeks I believe but it has already gotten pretty busy. Definitely coming back here.

I came by for lunch and had the gyoza, karaage and signature tonkotsu. The food was fresh and tasty, but I found the chashu to be a bit more tough and dry than I have had at before at their Queen Street location. The service is excellent and the space is clean and bright.

Wanted a true Ramen flavour it was bad but portions were small in comparison to other places I've ordered from. Fried chicken was not crispy cause I did uber. The dumplings were so tiny. Honestly not ordering from them again. I got them off Instagram that said they were great. Not my experience. Karagee Don was ok.

I came here with my family to celebrate my birthday and it was such a great experience! We ordered 4 bowls of ramen and got my age gyoza, everything was delicious. The service was wonderful, and I really appreciated the little touches, like offering a power bank to customers, so thoughtful and sweet! A great way to celebrate my birthday. The new Yonge & Dundas location feels like a little slice of Japan right in Toronto. Highly recommend!

Best ramen spots in the city! Ikkousha never disappoints! The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with that authentic Japanese ramen shop vibe. The tonkotsu broth is rich, creamy, and packed with deep umami flavour. The noodles are perfectly cooked with just the right chew, with option on the menu paper to choose texture of the noodles, saltiness etc everything are customizable and the toppings are fresh and portion generous. I especially love the Spicy Ramen, is spicy and satisfying. Good price good potion! Their gyoza with bite-sized, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavour. Perfect pairing with our ramen. The service is superb friendly and attentive, and everything is made to order with great attention to detail. A must-visit spot in Toronto Highly recommend!

This is a new location of Ikkousha on Yonge that recently opened. It is much more spacious than the Queen location and I surprisingly didn't need to wait for a table on a Friday night. Service is friendly and fast. The only con is that the egg doesn't come with the ramen and cost extra ($3). The gyoza are quite tasty. Would recommend even though they are on the pricier side.

Been here a few times. Good food, fast service, a little pricey though. It's a nice vibe after a late day at the office.

The seafood and tonkotsu broth was rich, savory, and full of flavor. It was a little too salty to drink on its own, but perfect for dipping the noodles. The only thing to note is that the cold noodles stayed quite firm even after sitting in the broth for a while, so if you prefer a softer texture, I would recommend asking for hot noodles instead. The soft-boiled egg was also really good, slightly sweet, chilled, and very flavorful. We also tried the Spicy Red Miso ramen, which was not actually very spicy and leaned a little sweet. The broth was pleasant, though my teammate felt there were so many onions and green onions that they covered some of the miso flavor. The chashu, however, was excellent, with a really nice balance of lean meat and fat without feeling greasy. The takoyaki was classic and well done, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, with generous pieces of octopus inside. The karaage was also very solid, crispy outside and juicy inside, with a seasoning that had a clear ginger and cooking wine aroma. Overall, a very enjoyable meal, especially if you like rich broths and comforting Japanese side dishes.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
