I used to live in downtown and we would always come here for their hand pulled noodles. I always thought it was great and a lot better than many more popular Lanzhou Ramen spots in Toronto. However, it's been a few years since I came back because I no longer live in downtown. I was surprised to see the place really haven't changed much at all. The interior design was exactly the same and honestly the prices haven't changed much either. They now also serve rice noodles. Initially I wanted to get their beef ramen soup and an appetizer because I wanted something clean and light. But we had a chat with a granny and her granddaughter on the next table and they highly recommended a few dishes. So we just went with whatever she recommended. When the food came, we realized everything was oily and spicy lol. We ordered the Beef Stir Fried Hand Pulled Noodles for $14.99, Pork Kidney with Chili sauce for $5.99 and their Sliced Pork with chili oil for $3.99. Everything wasn't as spicy as we thought and was very delicious. The noodles had a nice chew and there were plenty of beef slices. As for the appetizers, I definitely prefer the sliced pork over the kidneys. It was just more flavorful and had a tang to it. I would definitely come back here whenever I want Lanzhou Ramen in downtown. It will always have a place in my heart. read more

A quaint, authentic mom and pop eatery. a two man band. I was quickly seated. the menu is extensive and has multiple dishes ive never seen before. everything looked so delicious. I went the safe route and went with this hearty, boiling hot soup during this toronto heat wave. the broth rich, noodles freshly handpulled, the beef with just enough fat. absolutely thrilled. the fried chicken was a bit too fatty for my liking but was cooked perfectly, tasted fresh and crispy. read more

We tried the original beef ramen and the chicken and mushroom ramen, and both were good but we did expect a little more vegetables. Also, it seems weird that they call this ramen when it's not Japanese. However, the soup is delicious and we would definitely eat this again. The meat was super tender in both soups! Also, there is a man in the back who's actually making the noodles, which was fun to watch. We also tried the pork Chinese crispy burger; it was super delicious and flaky, and cost $5.99. I think this was good value for sure; we had enough soup left over for tomorrow's lunch! read more

I'm so glad I discovered this place, and now I'm a fan! The best dish was definitely their Spicy Dan Dan Noodles, with the perfect balance of savoury ground beef sauce and chilli oil on fresh, hand-pulled noodles. The heat level was mild enough to enjoy comfortably. My second favourite was the lamb skewers, especially since they were on a BOGO promotion. The staff brought them sizzling to our table, and the smoky flavour was irresistible. I also tried the chicken cartilage, which was chewy and equally delicious. The rolled onion pancake with beef was crispy, hearty, and easy to grab on the go. The amusingly named Sichuan Saliva Chicken turned out to be mouthwatering cold chicken in chilli oil. The entire menu is affordable, which must be a godsend for students. It's run by a friendly family and has a really chill vibe. I'd definitely come back for another satisfying meal! read more

Cheap but really not good. Their beef ramen soup is just a watery beef broth with over cooked beef slices. The pork Chinese hamburger is ok but the dough is tasteless read more

After the AutoShow, we stopped for dinner, and I have to admit, I initially found the name of the restaurant hilarious. Turns out, it is a hand-pulled noodle specialty spot, and any doubts I had were completely unnecessary. The noodles stick to the basics in the best way possible, with a perfect texture that I really appreciated. While some might prefer a heavier broth, I loved how light and refreshing it was. For anyone looking for a bowl of soup that is both satisfying and not overly rich, this would be a great choice. From the skewers to the condiments, I noticed that this place does not rely on heavy seasoning but instead focuses on balance and clarity of flavors. The execution was spot on, and I would not mind coming back to explore more of the menu. Overall, the food quality was excellent, the service was decent and kind, and best of all, it will not hurt your wallet. A solid spot worth revisiting! read more

Great value for your money. Excellent portion sizes. Prices are same as pre-pandemic! But... yes, there's a BUT! But the service is NOT why you go there. You've been warned. Also, don't wear your Sunday best there. Ideally, rummage through your dirty laundry hamper, and wear what you're needing to wash. You'll thank me afterwards. read more

It's a pretty legit north China noodle restaurant, yeah...including the decoration. There were some cheesy pictures and Chinese slogans on the wall. However, the flavour of the food was good. You can choose the thickness of the noodle or even pick "DaoXiaoMien"(Shaved noodle). I will definitely come back and have different types of noodles! It can be paid by card, too. That's a plus for an Asian restaurant. You know what I mean. read more

SO impressed by this Chinatown noodle spot! Food comes out quickly. You know it's legit when you get to choose your noodle thickness! Firstly, the cold chili oil 凉皮 was excellent. So flavorful and not too spicy. I tried both the thicker noodles and the 2 mm noodle, both exceptional. Super fresh, perfect texture, and generous servings of meat. This is my go to Chinese ramen shop! Super affordable price and everything I've tried so far were tasty. I ordered the sliced noodle with beef brisket. The beef was so tender and the noodles were thick & chewy (just the way I like it). I really liked the flavour of the saliva chicken with the chilli oil and Peanuts, but the chicken was a lil dry. It seems like they actually fried the chicken a bit cause the skin was a lil crispy/hard. I'm the past, I've also tried their stir fry sliced noodles (one of my favs and I always struggle deciding between this dish and soup noodles) & pig ears in chilli oil (another yummy appetizer). Hand Pulled Noodles with Beef (in soup): Flavourful broth that wasn't overpowering and salty. The noodles were a nice chewy texture. the toppings like the radish had a subtle sweetness to it & great crunch alongside the noodles. A huge plus is that you can choose between 6 different noodle widths (ranging from 1mm to 50mm)! I had gotten the 3mm (two-small) size shown in the 2nd photo and found it to be the perfect size. Overall, an amazing noodle shop & great place to go especially during the cold winter weather. The place can get busy especially at night to be aware for larger group sizes. read more

This is a fantastic spot for casual dining in Chinatown! I had their hand pulled ramen with tomato and egg in soup, and it was flavourful, fresh, hearty and very tasty. Their portions are big that I had enough left over for another meal. Lots of seating space inside and relatively fast service! Truly one of the gems in Toronto. Even after recent price increases, a bowl of their noodles still only set you back $10.99 which is a great price for the quantity and quality. Both their soup options and dry options are great. I've tried all different noodle thicknesses and my personal favourites are the classic for soups and the sliced noodle for stir fry. I took my Chinese parents to try this place and despite them being generally quite picky, they really enjoyed it. Nothing to say except that I've never had a bad dish here! read more

Dined in here for early lunch on Sunday with a party of 5. There were plenty of seats available. It looks like the place was getting busier with people coming in. Tried the beef skewer (2skewers for $3.49) and it was nicely seasoned. It was very chewy with fat in it. The dumpling (4pcs for $2.99) was crispy and delicious. The hand pulled ramen with braised soup ($9.49) was pretty good. I would have enjoyed it more if it was spicy. I added the chilli sauce they provided on the side and it made a big difference-giving the broth more flavour. They were pretty generous on the amount of braised beef given. I opted for the wide big noodle and it reminded me lasagna noodles lol. It was nice of them to provide me with scissors to cut my noodles or else it would have been hard to eat I tried my brother's hot spicy noodles sichuan style ($9.99) and I enjoyed it. This was a dry noodle mixed with bean sprouts, green onions, cucumber and ground pork. He opted for regular noodles. I really enjoyed the spice in it. Overall, the size of their noodle dishes were huge. Struggled to finish my noodles even though it was my first meal of the day. read more

This place is better than I remembered. Went here many years ago but never been back until recently. I got their hot soup with braised beef + an egg and it was so filling and delicious! Great beef noodle soup place! The place doesn't look like much, to be honest, but their food is quite delicious. As with many Asian restaurants, they're very hands-off with their service. Only there to take your order, give you food, and refill water. Personally I prefer service like this, because they aren't asking you questions about food that you don't know how to answer, or will inevitably just default to "good" because you can't think of anything else and are trying to be Canadian-polite. Their food is all quite reasonably priced and with many noodle options--both with and without soups. Their noodles are hand-pulled and are wonderfully elastic and chewy! Their broth is also pretty nice, not overly salty, but a great base for chili oil. That being said, it's not particularly unique compared to a lot of beef noodle soup places in the GTA, but it's still a wonderful addition. Come by if you want a nice comforting warm bowl of food! read more

Was absolutely starving after a morning at the museum and then decided to go to Homemade Ramen. I asked for a table of one for lunch and was immediately seated. They have a menu and a notepad you can write on for what you want (which is kinda interesting). Then give the notepad to the waiter/waitresses and wait for your food! Sliced noodle stir-fry with lamb ($11.99) - I loved the sliced noodles; unfortunately for me, it wasn't uber uber thick. However I did love the noodle flavor and there was a lot of stuff on the plate for the price that I paid. They have a good amount of meat in there and I was absolutely enthralled of that fact. There were some vegetables in there that I didn't really like, but you know, to each their own haha. I loved having it stir fried and I loved the flavor that came out of it. It's good and aplenty. Also went for the scallion pancake which I enjoyed; it was cut in 5 pieces. It's a bit of a crisp but not too much scallion flavor really in there, but I do love the flour flavor in there. Food comes out at a good pace; service is decent - flag em down haha. I do wish I knew what the option for thick noodles are, but not noodle soup hahahahaha. read more

Highly recommended. Nice and homey comfort food. Don't come expecting Japanese style ramen (despite its name!) Between 2 adults and 2 picky kids, we devoured three bowls with generous amounts of noodles. Got the braised beef soup (not spicy despite the chili label), regular beef noodle, and Dan Dan mian (not very spicy), along with lamb skewers. Everything was super flavorful with tender meats (though not the same as Taiwanese style beef noodle soups). Noodles were perfectly cooked. We could see them making noodles behind the counter! read more

Tip: Don't forget to designate what size of noodles you want; I forgot as the menu doesn't show the options but the restaurant wall does. Solo traveler here. Spending a few days in Toronto and me not being used to the cold (Cali girl here), I was really craving for some hot soup. Saw some good reviews and liked the hand-pulled noodle aspect to the restaurant, so wanted to check this place out. The waitresses were very friendly. They give you receipt paper where you write down your order and they take it to the kitchen. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup as well as the beef sesame pancake. Pretty cool that near the cash register you can see someone hand pulling the noodles. Food came out at a reasonable time. The beef was kinda cold and a little dry, wasn't living for it. The noodles were alright; I forgot to indicate what size noodles I wanted as the sizes are only mentioned on the wall, not in the actual menu. Soup was a bit salty, added some chili oil and it mellowed it down a bit. As for the beef sesame pancake, I should've looked more closely to the Yelp pics because it was smaller than I expected it to be lol. 4 small pieces for 6 bucks.....more than a buck a piece lol. Though pre-judgment aside, the pieces were actually pretty tasty lol I'd actually eat it as a snack. Would I want to come back here again? Hmm, maybe to try out the other soups in the menu and ask for larger noodles. read more

Been a couple years since the last time I came. It's nice to see that the prices overall haven't really changed. Ordered a hand-pulled noodle soup with braised beef, because I wanted to compare it with a similar bowl I had recently at another location. And the difference was huge. Most of the meat was just the fatty pieces; there were probably only a couple small chunks of beef. They were tender, but they were also quite small so that is a factor to consider. You get a decent amount of noodles. Actually most of the bowl consists of noodles. It's still got that chewy texture and some flavor, but I think it could have been a bit chewier. The broth itself I found quite salty. I do remember that some of the bowls had a herbal flavor, but this to me was just way too salty. I did not find how the broth looked very appealing either, as you can see lots of oil floating around. Service is good: we were offered plenty of tea refills (which was very diluted). But they've gotta step up their noodle soup game. read more

I came to this place after watching YouTuber Mike Chen's Visit to Toronto video. I have been looking a good place for hand pulled noodles and I was not disappointed. The broth was simple but was rich in taste as it complimented the regular noodles I had with it. What's awesome about this place is the opportunity to try different sizes of noodle length, whether you like the wide or narrow, it totally is up your preference. The braised beef was succulent and paired nicely with the broth and noodles. I definitely will back the next time I am in Chinatown for that hangover cure or for just a good bowl of noodles. read more

One thing I noticed in Toronto is that there are many homemade noodle shop, and there is one on Spadina Avenue that I enjoyed a lot. Homemade Ramen (中國蘭州牛肉拉面) sells authentic lan zhou ramen (蘭州拉面). Once you enter the shop, you can see a chef at the back pulling noodles non-stop. They make the noodles fresh to order, and they have 6 different noodles to choose from. Each has a different thickness and width. We ordered two items to share, and of course, we have to order a bowl of Hand-Pulled Noodle with Beef, as well as Shredded Pig's Ear with Chili. For the Hand-Pulled Noodle with Beef, the default noodles are regular, which are 2.5mm wide. However, I decided to change to leek leaves, which are 5mm flat noodles. Once our order was in, the chef started to pull noodles, though I wasn't sure if he is making our orders. Within 10 minutes, our noodles arrived. The broth is clear and light, with few beef slices and pickled radish. The portion is huge, so it is perfect to share. The noodles are perfectly cooked, nice and chewy. I love the broth so much, and I am surprised by the addition of pickled radish in the soup - the combination goes super well together. The Shredded Pig's Ear with Chili came as well. It looks spicy, but it is not. It is on a sweeter side, with the addition of bell peppers. I prefer having just the shredded pig's ear with minced garlic and chili oil on its own. The bell peppers are not necessary here. *** Overall Impression *** Homemade Ramen is another gem on Spadina Avenue. It has good service, clean ambiance, and most importantly, inexpensive noodles. You can get a bowl of noodles for less than $10 here, and I can guarantee that you will leave with a full stomach! Although I didn't try much here, I will definitely revisit and try other noodle bowls! My recommended item here is the Hand-Pulled Noodle with Beef, and I think the leek leaves' width and thickness are perfect. This is the 1st Chinese restaurant I stopped by in Toronto . The food was delicious and service was great. Hand pulled noodles were delicious! They hand you a pad and you write down the order number you want. Remember, debit or cash only no credit cards. The menu is pretty big with many choices to choose from. In the end we ordered the sliced pork belly with garlic sauce, beef noodle soup and chicken stir fry noodles and scallion pancake. All the noodles were all hand pulled. The pork belly was soft, tender and the garlic was not overpowering and was balanced nicely with the sweet and salty. The noodle soup and stir fry were delicious and we enjoyed every chewy bite.
