This Chinese noodle restaurant has been open since before 2015. We first came here in 2017. The restaurant is up half a floor. It is long and narrow. There is low-volume modern music playing in the background. It is slightly dim in the restaurant. For the month of Oct 2024 and during weekdays, there is a special value meal combo ($13 to $18), and for an extra $2, you get one appetizer (worth $6-$8) and one drink (worth $2). I think the main noodle bowl is the same as the regular price, but where you really save is getting a free appetizer by paying the extra $2. With the specials, they allowed us to choose between 3 noodle types, spice-level, and numbness-level. We ordered the following: 1. Marinated Pork Belly Xiao Mian with Egg Noodles ($19) + Braised Bean Curd and Nestea (+$2). 2. Scramble Eggs and Tomato Mifan ($14) + Salty Crispy Chicken and Nestea (+$2). 3. The Marinated Pork Belly was really good; I prefer the meaty part, and my wife will eat the fatty part. The Hot & Sour Sweet Potato Noodles were really good; I didn't taste any hotness. The Brown Sugar Iced Jelly was good as long as you like the sweetness of brown sugar, which I do. This was the first time I had the Strawberry Yakult; it was yummy. The customer service was excellent and attentive. When the restaurant was not busy, the waitress would ask customers if they wanted extra noodles! They accept credit and debit (it used to be cash only until at least 2019) and cash, but there are many discounts for using cash. For less than $20, you get 5% off. For $20-$40, you get 10% off or a free pop ($2). For over $40, you get a free Brown Sugar Iced Jelly ($6). There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. We loved our experience here. I got the vegan noodles ($7 - really wow!!) and asked for max spice and zero numbing. I asked got extra green onions, sesame seeds, peanuts and garlic. They're not kidding about the spice. My husband did the same but he had pork ribs noodles. Both of us loved what we had but the spice levels were a bit much even for us. Next time we are going to tone it down a bit. Be careful what you wish for I guess!! But the broth is very flavorful and great quantity. Can't imagine getting extra noodles with it but it's great that they have that option. I loved the greens in it - so I didn't miss any protein in it. Temperature of the food is pretty hot - just the way I like it. Staff is very friendly. Our waitress was very sweet and prompt. While in the area, I quickly referred to Google maps for a simple dinner and found Hey Noodles (rated 4.7) - considering I always have a lingering craving for noodles, this was perfect. Walking in, I didn't have strong expectations. A quarter of the tables were occupied, and I was seated promptly. There were only two people working - one in the kitchen, and one processing orders. I was told to scan the QR code, which took me to a website where you could order "online" - efficient! But they also have paper menus, so you can use to order in person. I decided to get the cucumber salad, and the sesame paste dry noodles with minced pork. Once I placed the order, the server confirmed that they received it. As I waited for the next 20-25 minutes, the place filled up. Not only with in-person diners, but also pick ups and deliveries. I certainly wasn't expecting to wait that long, but I wasn't in a rush for once. The food was excellent! For what you can get downtown for ~$20, you can't beat this. The cucumber salad was refreshing and the noodles were chewy, flavourful, although a bit too oily for me. For a no-fuss dinner, this is a great spot - especially during non-rush hours. The first experience I went for was regular spicy and regular numb level, and the flavour was very plentiful with all of the toppings on top (they add peanuts & cilantro too.) Place was busy and seemed understaffed the day we visited. It took about 30min for our food to be ready but the waitress informed us of the wait when we placed our order. The dumplings were nice and crispy. The sesame noodles were not bad; a little plain. The Chongqing noodles were also average. After drooling over the photo of the beef noodles, I suggested this place to my friends for a weekend dinner. I was excited because the refillable noodles and I just wanted hearty broth! The beef sirloin noodles (less spicy) came out pretty quickly after a few minutes and I was ready to dig in. I appreciated that the noodles and broth were both very hot and had an abundant amount of beef and it was delicious. I was too full to ask for and eat any more noodles. I'm also unsure if they handpull their noodles in house but it was still pretty good. The hard boiled egg was a bit powdery (what happens when you over cook it) but still good. Looking back at the photo, they display the noodles with bok choy but instead, they give you lettuce. So consistency is probably better. Hey Noodles The restaurant was very tidy and nicely decorated. There were not too many people when we visited so we were able to sit comfortably and eat at a leisurely pace. The wait staff was very attentive, quick to replace our water and bring us extra silverware. We only ordered the noodles since the pictures looked to be rather large bowls and it is good that we did that. You have the option to add extra toppings and get extra soup, along with other aspects you could alter to your preference. The bowls of noodles were very reasonably priced and provided more than enough food (we had to get togo boxes). Looking at the food itself however, I personally felt that the broth was very oily and that coupled with the pork belly protein option made for a very greasy experience. You can try to separate some of the oil from the top of the soup but despite that, the soup was still rather rich and salty. A slightly diluted version of the broth may have been a better in my opinion. However, the flavor of the soup, despite being overly flavorful, was well seasoned and made from a nice stock. This restaurant appeals to a variety of people, from those more accustomed to traditional and authentic Chinese flavors, as well as those with tamer palettes. A lot of different flavors are for the more adventurous folks to experiment with. Defintiely be careful with the spiciness levels. We got medium spicy and we could feel our scalp itching. Unless you are really tolerant of spicy foods, be careful! That being said, adhere to the other reviews and try to avoid the Numbing addition that they have. It's a little difficult to find since it's not on the ground level (it's like half a level above) & the signs are mostly in Chinese! Wouldn't recommend the lamb (my friend's beef looked a lot better), but otherwise this meal was PERFECT. It's a good thing she was able to tolerate that level of heat. If they made a similar mixup on an order for someone with allergies, someone might have died. I had to add a lot of soy sauce for the soup to be flavorful, which means that the soup by itself is just so so... Not particularly umami. The pickled vegetables added a nice crunch. The noodles were very lackluster. They didn't hang on to the soup particularly well, and they didn't have a great mouth feel. It just tasted like ramen noodles dazzled up with some pickled vegetables and cilantro. The most disappointing thing was the popcorn chicken. The portion was really small, and the individual pieces were the size of small grapes. They weren't really seasoned and let the ketchup? BBQ sauce? do all the heavy lifting for flavor. The breading also wasn't as crispy as I was hoping for. It felt like frozen popcorn chicken that got heated up in an industrial oven or microwave. We originally tried this place at Night It Up and really enjoyed the taste of their potato vermicelli noodles so we decided to revisit the Chinatown location. The meal met our expectations. The soybean and pork intestine noodles that I got were well seasoned and not too heavy. The soup base was a bit oily though but this is pretty common for a lot of Chinese dishes. You have the option of customising your spice level in two ways: the spices and the level of numbness. I did regular spicy and little numb. This ended up being fairly spicy though and I probably used half of their tissue box to wipe off the sweat from the spices. My boyfriend got the beef noodles and he thought the meal was good especially the potato vermicelli noodles. The beef chunks were pretty massive though and he had to manually cut some pieces to make it easier to chew and swallow. Service is very prompt and friendly. We received the food pretty quickly after we ordered the noodles. They also brought us some lemon water right away and were attentive in noticing when we were trying to flag them down. The bouncy, thin noodles come with a meaty broth. This rich broth really sets Hey Noodles apart from other restaurants. When it's done right, the flavors are strong and balanced where you can taste the fiery chili oil, savory peanut sauce, and intense garlic flavor. The only thing that bothers me is the food consistency in Hey Noodles. There were times when chili was the dominant flavor.
