Duck Skin w cane sugar
Godwin T.

Venue 5/5 This multilevel restaurant is located in the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto. The first floor is a bar and late night lounge, the second floor is party rooms and private rooms. The third floor is the dining room. Have been here many times now, most recently for their famous Peking duck. The location is very accessible by car or by transit. The entrance is a street level and it is wheelchair accessible. Decor is Chinese fine dining. There are multiple parking, garages nearby in the Shangri-La hotel, or the Hilton across the street. Valet is also on site. Service 5/5 The whole team at Mott 32 is very knowledgeable, hospitable and patient. They are able to give suggestions on drinks as well as recommendations based on dietary preferences. When courses are served, we are given a brief introduction on the dish being served, as well as the ingredients on it. The duck needs to be reserved 24 hours in advance and will take around 45 minutes to roast and prepare once you give them the instruction to. Food 5/5 My favourite is the roast duck for sure. The skin is crispy and juicy, and they glaze the skin with honey. I've had their fries as well as the prawn spring rolls both as an appetizer or a late night snack when I am visiting the bar. The pork dumplings (Xiao long bao) are a traditional favourite. They have also remade them as a cold dessert with oolong and almonds ice cream. Other notable dishes include the lobster tofu (ma po tofu). An add on I like to pair with the duck is the duck fried rice. The rice is crispy too! I would recommend coming with a small group as everything is shareable portion. Just note that the bar menu is different than the dinner menu for certain items.

Truffle and quail egg siu mai

Pretty good Chinese food... but quite expensive too! It's an expansive space (sneakily so) that spans three floors, and is decorated in quite a bougie way that completely masks any remnants of the previous tenant (Momofuku). Hard to believe that the two share the same space! Came here for a team event on Lunar New Year - they were serving special cocktails for the day, so I tried the signature Hennessy cocktail (forget the name now). Was good, but a bit strong. We ordered a bunch of food to share, taking care to cater to some vegetarian / pescetarian needs. A few highlights: - The iberico char siu looked quite interesting, and was pretty decent. It wasn't too fatty and had a nice honey glaze that I love best - Soft quail egg, iberico pork, black truffle siu mai - I was very impressed by the runny egg in the middle. Very well executed and flavorful! - We of course had to order the signature Peking duck. The skin was served traditionally with some sugar, and the duck itself was delicious. There wasn't nearly enough of this to go around! Some bits were used in a delicious rice stir fry after (though we also got a vegetarian option to accommodate folks) - Whole Alaskan King Crab - they showed us our catch (in true Chinese fashion), and gave us the opportunity to take a photo holding the crab. We opted to get the crab legs steamed with minced garlic, and the body in a deep fried golden garlic (HK style!!) - I'm a sucker for chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, so we got this as well (think it's only from their LNY menu). Very generously packed and meaty! We ordered so much food that we had boxes of leftovers to go. Overall, a very solid meal! They even gave us some red envelopes for $100 off (eligible for any dinner that's above $200 in spend), an absolute steal given their famous Peking duck is over $100+ alone. Would come again!

Alaskan King Crab Meat Fried Rice, Conpoy, Egg White, Flying Fish Roe

I was on a quest to find good fried rice in Toronto, so I used Yelp. I saw that Mott 32 was near me and the pics and review looked fantastic. The restaurant offers a beautiful decorative ambiance along with a scenic view of the city. I ordered "Alaskan King Crab Meat Fried Rice, Conpoy, Egg White, Flying Fish Roe." Although I know this was a non-traditional fried rice dish and it was good, it didn't satisfy my fried rice quest, but my daughter, who shared this dish with me enjoyed it very much. My husband ordered "General Tso's Free Range Chicken, Chili" and it is exactly that. Chicken and dried chili. Don't expect any bell peppers nor onions in the mix. Overall, Mott 32 was good. I think I expected more because it's a high end restaurant (Yelp didn't offer a $$$ warning). If possible, I would have given a rating of 3.5.

Crispy frog legs

A great meal! I came here with friends on a trip to Toronto. It was a reasonably quiet atmosphere though it was still quite obvious that we weren't the only people in the restaurant. We had the crispy frog legs, which I thought had too much breading, other than that, they were perfectly cooked and moist. The Tuna Toast was unique and tasted great, though a little spicy to some at the table. While we ate more than that, those are the dishes that stood out for their own reasons. Dishes came to our table well timed and our tea pot stayed full. I really appreciated the experience and look forward to trying out Mott 32 again in the future!

This was the first time I came here ever since Momofuku had closed. I came here for happy hour special. It is quite close to my workplace and I was able to easily book a reservation on OpenTable. However, when I got there, it was absolutely empty. We were the only party in the lounge. I seen a lot of TikTok videos talk about how amazing their dim sum is and they're happy hour menu included dim sum but instead of your regular Chinese dim sum prices of 4 to 6 dollars it was all starting at $10 which was their reduced happy hour special price. It was pretty expensive for what it was but we thought we would be getting super high quality dim sum but it wasn't the case it was pretty regular. Regular isn't bad but it's not what we expect when you pay $10 for four pieces of hargow. Their drink menu is quite unique. I had something with sake and pear which was very delicious. Their service was very prompt and we were well taken care of in that sense but ambiance wise a beautiful restaurant but so empty I probably wouldn't come here for a regular dinner or a lunch meal given their insane price but the only time I thought I would ever try. It was their happy hour and I'm kind of glad I did.

Sliced duck (2 plates from one duck)

This is a swanky expensive Chinese restaurant located in the Shangri-La hotel downtown. Opened recently we decided to have lunch here to celebrate a birthday. Their signature dish is the Applewood Smoked Peking Duck which needs to be ordered in advance (at least 48 hours) and even then, once you arrive it's another 45 minutes before it arrives at your table. We ordered the basic duck ($180.00). The $180.00 is just the duck skin and meat (how Peking duck is normally served). If you want the rest of the duck you will have to pay an additional cost ($38.00) to turn what meat is left on the rack to a fried rice or have the bones roasted with a chili soy. What else was ordered: Hot and sour Iberico pork Shanghaiese soup dumplings Soft quail egg, Iberico pork, prawn, black truffle siu mai Alaskan king crab meat fried rice with conpoy, egg white and flying fish roe Green asparagus, crab meat, egg white, honey peas King prawns, pumpkin, salted egg yolk Almond and Chocolate, oolong tea 'xiao long bao' We got a complementary dessert and birthday buns as well. The verdict? It was okay. Dishes are different and in general well presented. The yolk in the quail egg siu mai was still soft and runny. The duck itself was really good. Menu says it serves 3-4 but we had 6 people and it was fine. If you decide to go with the extra $38.00 for the rest of the duck I would stay away from the roasted option as the bones were not really roasted but deep fried with chili and garlic. This made the what was left of the meat really dry. Full bar with good selection of wines, cocktails and mock tails and of course Chinese teas. Service could have been better. It wasn't busy and we had to ask 3 people before we got a refill of hot water for our tea and water in general. Also took a while to flag someone down. It's like when our food arrived we were left alone and there was no check-in. Maybe our expectations were set a bit high but at these prices you do expect a bit more. More than a 3 star but less than a 4 star rating. Maybe 3.5?

Mott 32 located at the heart of Toronto where Momofuku used to be inside the Shangri-La Hotel. The Applewood roasted Peking duck "Mott 32 cut" you will need to pre order in advance. Plenty of wraps served with cucumbers and green onions. The wraps were made in house, nice and thin. In terms of the famous duck l, I find the skin was crispy but lacks flavour. The minced duck fried rice with asparagus was delicious! A little bit crispy and dry enough but not too dry for fried rice. The scallop prawns crispy rice in fish soup tasted pretty good if you like fish soup or want a soup dish in between the dishes. The Siu Mai was nice and retro as it has the quail egg inside. Usually, I don't like Siu Mai but with the iberico pork and quail egg, I really enjoyed the marriage of these ingredients. One of my favourite during this meal was the crab meat dumpling, you can find it in the smaller menu instead of the large menu. They have the claw attached to it and presented like a crab claw but dumpling. Unique and I haven't seen this in other chinese restaurants in Toronto. The barbecue pluma Iberico pork was delicious (Limited daily) not too dry and not too fat, just right. The crispy roasted pork belly was not available for lunch. The Nova Scotia har gwa was nicely presented, it was stuffed with lobster, however I find it a little bland and I need to dip it in chilli oil. $28 for one piece, definitely the crab meat dumpling was way better and lower price! The signature smoked black cod was theatrical open from a bell jar with smoke coming out but too sweet and the batter was a little thick to the degree that you cannot taste the black cod flavour. The signature Nova Scotia lobster ma po tofu was delicious. Great with rice. The tofu was so silky and smooth and not too spicy along with huge chucks of lobster. If you are in the mood for a cocktail, the Hanami cocktail was very good! As a happy ending, the mango soup pomelo grapefruit was nice a refreshing for dessert. Service was very nice, friendly and attentive. Explained everything well! Ambiance was nice and comfortable. Overall, a good dining experience and great for special occasions!

Xiao long bao- what's with the tiny basket? Our dumplings all got stuck to it and we lost a lot of soup.

Went to try this new addition to the Shangri-La Hotel! The Hot and Sour soup dumplings are extremely delicate; we ripped 3/4 of them by accident just trying to (very carefully!) pry them from their wee little basket platforms (I have no idea what these are actually called). Maybe because they're on a piece of carrot? Maybe because we left them for a minute longer than we should've? Maybe because the skins are too thin? In any case, we lost a lot of that delectable soup, which was frustrating. The garlic prawn spring rolls were delicious, and packed with prawn goodness. The dipping sauce was a little shallow, but the rolls were super crispy. The Peking duck wasn't as flavourful as we thought it would be. Perhaps we were expecting something more show-stopping, given the price? Anyway, the combination of hoisin sauce and cane sugar made it better. I think we received about 15-16 wrappers, which was plenty. Also, for the uninitiated, please note that you have to order this dish a day in advance and that it takes a long time for it to be served at your table for carving. They took the leftover duck and put it into a fried rice. But the rice was a bit too crispy; even though some of it was probably made like a crust in a wok and then broken apart, it almost felt like some of the grains were just old or partially cooked. We also thought it lacked seasoning, and that the duck pieces should be bigger. Maybe next time, we'd try the leftover duck in a noodle dish or a soup. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is nice (a little Crazy Rich Asians vibes) and the servers were excellent. There are SO many staff here, and they were all very sweet.

Shrimp toast, soup dumpling, shu mai

Guys, 14/10. This place was perfection! First, hats off to our waiter Tom who we put in the uncomfortable and no-win position of picking our entire meal (to go with our pre-ordered Peking Duck) and did so with confidence and skill. He even picked the wine! We had the cucumber salad (Din Tai Fung could never), shrimp toasts (the best I've ever had), soup dumplings (with hot and sour rather than just broth), shu mai (with a quail egg inside). We had the duck - which is a MUST - and the green beans with the crispy duck fried rice (best ever) and a short rib. ...and then we went back for more shrimp toasts. Tom chose a dessert which came out on dry ice and was the perfect ending to our amazing meal. I miss Momofuku but Mott 32 will be a regular haunt for us from now on.

Located at Shangri-La, this place is simply put, GORGEOUS. You will love the ambiance there! The service is also very nice and helpful in giving suggestions. It was my second time trying Dim sum and I did not like dim sum first time so the stakes were high! However, every single item for the dim sum was great! It was fresh, well seasoned, not too oily or salty, and not overcooked. Especially anything with pork! The star of the show however, is their new dumplings, Black cod misu dumplings. Simply, the best dumplings I have ever had! And the dessert was amazing too! not too sweet not bitter. Well done! definitely suggest this place!

All the dishes were beautifully presented and tasted great, though the portions were smaller than expected. We had anticipated portions similar to Yu Seafood, but they didn't come close. The interior was stylish and added to the overall dining experience. However, the timing of the dishes was completely mixed up--we received the appetizer after the mains and dim sum. To make matters worse, we found a light brown (almost blonde) hair underneath the clay pot of the eggplant dish, which was both surprising and unpleasant. We brought this to the server's attention, and they handled the situation well by apologizing and offering a complimentary dessert.

My husband & I were in town for a few days & stumbled upon Mott 32 on our walk. We found out it had just opened 3 days prior to our arrival and knew we had to try it out! First and foremost, staff was so wonderful - they had no room available at all but since we were going to be leaving town soon they made an exception for us which I really appreciated because I had never tried this place. Second, the service was PHENOMENAL & I cant even begin to explain the taste of the food. I don't understand why these reviews are so mixed, I guess maybe it was because the restaurant was trying to figure things out on its first few days of opening but let me tell you: they definitely got it down now. Tom & Amanda are wonderful servers with the utmost help, knowledge of the menu, and professionalism. Every dish we dried, we loved - and that says a lot because when is the last time you loved every dish you tried at a restaurant? The drinks were also very tasty! Their "mango soup" dessert, no words... just fantastic. Third, the decor was astonishing. The restaurant is 3 floors: the first is a lounge/bar area, second is private dining rooms and washrooms, and third is the main restaurant area. The furniture and accents were all beautiful and complimentary to each other. Price: It was around $400 for 2 people, with around 10 dishes, a dessert, and 3 drinks. I'd say this is very reasonable with how great the service and taste of food was! Great job this was our favorite food spot for the trip!

Overall 3 stars. The food was good and the service upstairs was good. They lost one star because of the service at check in downstairs with the hostess. I went to the restaurant first as my husband was parking the car so the hostess asked whether I wanted to wait for him at the bar or go upstairs first. I said I would wait at the bar. When my husband came in, the hostess did not acknowledge him so he came straight to where I was as he saw me. She was not on the phone at that time. We were about to go to the hostess to get our table when she got on the phone. We were waiting for at least 5 min for her, even though she knew I was waiting for a table. After waiting a while, I stood right in front of the hostess and she continued to be on the phone and did not acknowledge me. Finally she told the person on the phone to wait and she told us to head to the elevator and did not accompany us to the elevator. Others were accompanied and even had the floor pressed. We had the duck experience and the signature smoked black cod. The duck experience was an experience. They take the skin off the duck in front of you and they give each person the condiments and refilled them without additional cost. We ordered extra wrappers without additional cost. The duck skin dipped in brown sugar was really good and very different. The smoked black cod was excellent and the taste was very interesting. We ordered 2 desserts- the almond & chocolate oolong tea XLB and the fresh mango, coconut glutinous rice roll. The XLB was ok but the glutinous rice roll was good and refreshing. They also gave us the osmanthus and goji berry matcha jelly for free. That was really good and refreshing. Food and service upstairs overall is 4 stars less one star for the poor service by the hostess. For a restaurant that charges such high prices, the service by the hostess is below expectations and set a bad initial impression.

The posters outside caught my eye, and I decided to come back with a group of three friends to try it out. We came a bit late around 8 PM, and most of the fish were already sold out except the original. We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.
