We were in Toronto, so we had to check out some dim sum spots. I searched on Yelp and this place had good reviews. I'm not sure if they had parking in the building, but we parked at a nearby Green P parking and walked over. Service was excellent and the workers all spoke Cantonese. They were impressed by my Cantonese speaking skills, especially since I don't look Chinese. I'm not sure if that was a compliment, but I'll take it. They served items I've never had before and I needed to try it. I got a bowl of fresh lobster meat in pumpkin soup $9.80, look fun with egg and chicken $9. We had to get two orders of the egg yolk jin dui $7.50. We also got my usual shrimp dumplings $10, chicken feet $9 and black bean spareribs $9. The hubby wanted to try the pan fried chicken dumplings $10. Hands down the best item was the salted egg yolk jin dui. It was freshly fried and when I bit into it the sauce came oozing out. Next, was the lobster pumpkin soup. It was delicious. I wish that they would have put more lobster into it and not just a few tiny pieces on the top. Everything else was great, on par with the dim sum in Hong Kong. I did have a problem with the shrimp dumplings. One of the wrappers broke when I picked it up with my chopsticks. No biggie though; it still tasted great with huge and plump shrimp fillings. They charge for tea, $3 per person. *prices listed are in CAD

Right across from the Eaton Centre, this is a solid spot if you're craving Chinese food and especially seafood. Honestly, it's a nice change if you don't feel like eating inside the mall. The servers are friendly, and while it's not the quietest place, the lively buzz actually adds to the atmosphere. The lobster dinner was delicious, and the soup hit the spot too. It's not the absolute best Chinese restaurant in the city, but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Good for groups, casual dinners, or anyone looking for a tasty meal just steps away from downtown shopping.

A great little spot for dim sum in Toronto downtown. Apparently the place takes reservations, but we showed up with that one on a Sunday and the restaurant became quickly packed. As with any decent authentic Chinese place, expect service to be rushed/ impersonal but food to be great. Everything is on the menu from congee to egg tarts to buns. The pork buns actually had some of the fluffiest buns I've ever had. Skip the hot and sour soup- it was entirely bland. Located as part of a mall, they don't seem to have their own airflow so it gets hot quickly.

One of my friends recommended Moon Palace, and I was able to stop by on a Saturday evening. It wasn't too busy, and we were able to be promptly sat. While it was not dimsum hour, they still have dimsum selections available to be taken down by paper, as well as a fuller menu for entrees. All of the dishes were familiar, as I grew up in a Cantonese household. We ended up ordering the sweet & sour pork, Cantonese chow mein (we originally tried ordering the chow fun, but they had run out 10 minutes prior to us ordering :( ), mushroom/tofu vegetable dish, and egg yolk sesame balls. Personally, I loved the sesame balls the most hahah the egg yolk filling was perfectly not-too-sweet and delicious! The sweet & sour pork had really thick breading; we wished there was less thick coating, crispier texture, and more meat. The Cantonese chow mein was great! Your typical crispy noodles with great proportion of vegetables and meat. The tofu/mushroom dish was also great! The interior was nice and the spacing felt comfortable. All of the servers were really nice. Despite my broken Cantonese, they made me feel like I was speaking fluently hahaha I would come back just for the sesame balls hehe

What a delight. The quality of of the meat and ingredients that they use in general here are amazing. The best dim sum in the city. When you have shrimp and duck in your chow mein, there are chunks of duck and the shrimp are small to medium sized shrimp not those tiny baby ones that taste like nothing at usual places. They're so good at putting a twist on dim sum items you're used to having like they have Siu Mai dumplings that are twice as big as they are elsewhere and they're topped with a little bit of truffle. Instead of having only barbeque pork steam buns, they also have chicken and ginger steam buns. Their shrimp rice rolls have medium-size shrimp in them and a yummy steamed green vegetable. There's one man server who is so nice and friendly and seems to always be working. The venue itself is pretty and very open with high ceilings. If you're looking for some elevated dim sum, I highly suggest trying this place

Went here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. Interior was clean and decorations and ambiance was tasteful. Service was attentive and efficient. The food was delicious and presented very well. We got the set menu and it was a very reasonable price for what you get. My favorite dish was the steamed fish and would definitely recommend that. Overall, great place for Cantonese style dinner in downtown Toronto area.

The quality of their food is surprising because even if it is familiar Chinese food, it was not greasy in any way. They brought out the siomai first and it was huge, bursting at the seams with pork, not fat. Afterward, in quick succession came the rice noodles, crispy noodles, steamed fish in ginger scallion sauce, sautéed beef, snow peas with mushrooms and fried tofu. All of these were *chef's kiss* delicious. Service was top notch and the waiters assigned to us promptly refilled our water glasses and teapots. We were left wanting for nothing. It was such a gorgeous venue for our family reunion. However do note that if your table is against the wall, those seated in that area will find it difficult to leave to go to the bathrooms without asking everyone else to get up. All in all, Moon Palace offers superb Chinese food and first world service - you'll get so much bang for your buck and a ton of memories.

Outstanding dim sum in the heart of Toronto's financial district! True flavours of Hong Kong! Exemplary service! Ambiance is soothing and has an understated classiness ... Paid parking available in the same building ( entrance from Bay St )

A Satisfying Experience The service was attentive -- I never had to ask for water or tea, which was a nice touch. However, I do wish the ventilation had been a bit better for a more comfortable dining atmosphere. Now, onto the most important part: the food. It reminded me of my grandmother's cooking -- not overly salty, with a perfect balance of aroma, texture, and flavor. I tried several dishes: chicken and abalone stir-fry, fried wild rice with seafood, Chinese broccoli with preserved pork, pumpkin soup with lobster meat, and the standout dish -- sweet and sour seafood soup. You might think sweet and sour soup is nothing special, but this one is on another level. If you're a fan of that flavor profile, don't miss it -- you won't regret it.

If you order on thing, order the duck. If you order two things get the rest of the menu, because everything is fantastic. Best to come with a big group and try multiple dishes. The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly. Very easy to become a regular.

There was a piece of plastic in the veggies dish. So disgusting and disappointing. The waiter gave us coconut pudding as apology but still we already ate the dirty stuffs otherwise food was ok.

One of the better dim sum spots in Downtown Toronto, though the selection of dim sum items is relatively limited and they were surprisingly sold out of congee when I dined here. The actual space and ambiance leaves much to be desired but the food feels clean, tasty, and well seasoned. Definitely come here with a group and plan to share, as the portions here are quite large!

Xo sauce scallop rice noodle rolls

We came here late afternoon so it wasn't busy. We ordered their dim sum. They served dim sum the whole day. We ordered the lobster meat, shrimp, and asparagus dumplings, bbq pork crisp, black truffle pork and shrimp dumplings, xo sauce scallop rice noodle rolls, and durian crisp. The lobster dumplings were good. There was big lobster meat inside. The black truffle pork and shrimp dumplings have a strong truffle taste. The size of the dim sum is bigger than the normal size in other restaurants but it also costs more. I like their bbq pork crisp. It is very crispy and you can see each layer and layers of it. The only thing I didn't like was the xo sauce scallop rice noodle roll. It didn't have much taste to it. The service was good. The food came out pretty quickly. The staff was pretty attentive and kept coming back to check on us. The decor of the restaurant is pretty and clean. It is a big restaurant. Their restroom is at the lower level and they have more tables on the lower level.

I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
