What a great place for dim sum! We were looking for something local and read about the Dim Sum King. The food was awesome! Between the dumplings (pork and shrimp), Malaysian noodles and fried sesame bean curd buns (desert) we were pleasantly fulfilled. The staff was friendly and quick to serve up the orders in a steady stream from the kitchen. The atmosphere inside was lively, very clean and really pleasant. It was worth the walk up to this 3rd floor restaurant (and yes there was an elevator if needed).

Very nice servers and delicious food. We ordered so much and it was all tasty. Notable dishes were the smashed, seasoned cucumber, the short ribs, the general tao chicken, and the squid tentacles. Great food, excellent service!

Never really ever disliked a meal experience like this one before. Sorry.

Nope. This place sadly isn't for me. My husband and I were in Toronto riding the Hop On and Off double decker tour bus and I said "let's stop in China Town for a late lunch"... That we did. Sorry we did. Service was grouchy for a place that has been around this long with no help with understanding the ordering process and never asking if we wanted anything to drink other than hot tea. We asked for diet cokes and you would have thought we asked for the world. Food was blah. Couldn't wait to leave.

Dimsum King never disappoints! It's always our go to when we're in downtown and touring our visitors from other cities/countries. We ordered a spread and nothing missed. The shrimp har gow are plump with that nice snap, siu mai are juicy, and the rice-noodle rolls are silky. Crispy turnip cake has those caramelized edges, the roast pork/duck combo brings the crunch and fat you want. Fried rice isn't greasy, portions are generous, and dishes come out fast even when the room is slammed. Just perfect :)

Dunpling - A white square plate holds eight pan-fried dumplings with golden-brown bottoms, accompanied by a metal spoon and a soy sauce bottle.

Went to this Chinese restaurant for the first time for an event. Dim sum and dumplings served actually taste very good. The servers brought out the food very efficiently and offered drinks quickly as well. They were friendly. The restaurant was big, big enough for family to come and bring friends. The energy was good! Definitely check this place out if you're in China town. Also offers both wine and beer

Restaurant is in the middle of Chinatown upstairs on the 3rd floor. They serve dim sum all day it seems as we arrived around 3 PM. You order from a menu and they bring the food out to you. Ambiance is good with 3 Lions (the ones used for Lion Dancing during Lunar New Year) hanging from the ceiling. Service was just okay but probably is better during rush hour. As for the dim sum, it was just okay. Siu mai was lacking in shrimp and more of a pork dumpling. The char siu bao was very good. Sticky rice was okay. Overal a good choice for dim sum if you can't make it out to the Markham area.

The food was amazing. I loved 90% of the food. The service was quick. The restaurant is spacious and decorated nicely.

Good customer service. Very good dim sum. The deep fried shrimp and green beans were amazing. My husband loved the bbq pork bun.

A popular place to go to judging by the crowds. Had to wait maybe 20 minutes for a table. The quality overall is less than I'm used to being from the San Francisco Bay Area. I guess pork buns aren't in demand as none were to be had during my visit. The same could be said for don tarts. I had a difficult time special ordering BBQ pork chow fun. When the dish arrived it was of the wet variety and not the dry as I ordered. The women pushing the carts seem to be helpful. I guess I had higher expectations upon arriving at this place. The interior is large typical of these restaurants.

Standard dim sum place where they still pushed the carts around! The place is really big so even when we came on a weekend at prime time, there wasn't a wait. Service is pretty fast and this satisfied my dim sum appetite!

This place is severely underrated on Yelp! One of the few places still offering the authentic traditional style of dim sum with the Chinese ladies pushing the carts around, which is very much appreciated by dim sum fans like myself! Not to mention there is a large variety of dishes available, all of which are tasty. I tried a bunch of different dishes (as you do), so here are some ones to highlight: - Shrimp and chive dumplings: This was surprisingly good, as the meat/veggie combo was tasty and the outside was nicely lightly fried. - Har gow: A tasty dim sum classic done well. - Egg tarts: Always one of my favs and this one did not disappoint. - Bean curd roll with beef: Decent although some of the others were better. - Chang fen (rice noodle roll) with you tiao (fried dough): Another one of my fav dim sum dishes and this one had nicely cooked dough on the outside to go with the well-made fried dough inside. - Tofu pudding: Delicious soft tofu in a sweet and gingery soup - Durian puff pastries: This one really surprised me because I thought I wasn't a durian fan, but this durian flavor isn't particularly strong (in a good way) and the pastry part was super soft and fluffy, making for a surprisingly delicious dessert. Our whole meal for 2 people came out to $60 CAD, which is quite a good deal considering the amount and quality of the food. The restaurant itself is on the upper floor of the building and the space is huge with tons of large tables for seating. It can get pretty packed in there though during peak hours, but we were able to get a table without a wait at prime weekend dim sum time. There is some traditional Chinese style decor around. I've already talked about the cart ladies, who are great, but the other staff are helpful as well. It definitely helps if you can speak Chinese though. Overall, Dim Sum King is definitely one of the top dim sum spots in Toronto. If you like dim sum, make sure you stop by!

First time here recently and it was fantastic! I'm really surprised with the mixed reviews. It's not as modern and no fancy tableware sets but the place was clean, excellent service and most importantly the food was really good. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are still serving dim sum in the traditional push cart style. We came quite late around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon so there were only a few push carts when we arrived so we did have to order a few items from the kitchen. Overall, we really enjoyed our dim sum lunch and we will definitely be back if we are in the area.

It is about 3.5 stars. The restaurant is at the top floor. They do have a slow elevator on the side if you don't want to take the stairs. The restaurant is push cart with dim sum. You can get a closer look on food you like. We got the fried squid without coating. The squid is just the tentacles. But it is delicious. The second dish is the rice paste with BBQ pork and steam bun. Both dishes are just ok. We also got sweet soft tofu and the stuff eggplant. Those are quite good. Recommend those last two dishes. Overall is good. I like push cart for dim sum. Very traditional way for serving this Chinese tapas.

Food 4/5 Service 4/5…read moreAmbiance 4/5 Food: I came here for a lunar New Year lunch with some co-workers. They chose the menu which was a combo deal. There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.

Behind its unassuming exterior lies a dining room of quiet sophistication: modern, luminous interiors with tasteful appointments that signal immediately this is no ordinary Cantonese restaurant. The dim sum programme is where Moon Palace truly distinguishes itself. Each piece arrives with a precision and generosity of filling that speaks to genuine kitchen pride -- plump dumplings, impeccably fresh shrimp, and roasted meats that carry an unmistakable depth of flavour reminiscent of Hong Kong's finest teahouses. The quality of ingredients is evident in every bite; nothing here feels like an afterthought. What deserves particular commendation is the consistency. Over multiple visits, the standard has never wavered -- a hallmark of disciplined kitchen craft that is rarer than it should be. In a neighbourhood saturated with tourist-facing options, Moon Palace maintains an unwavering commitment to authenticity and refinement. Service is attentive and gracious without being intrusive, contributing to an atmosphere that invites one to linger. I have recommended Moon Palace to friends and colleagues without hesitation, and will continue to do so. A polished gem in downtown Toronto's culinary landscape.

Both times were for lunch, and there was a large party both times. It was also a treat for me to show for the first time my Texas-based niece and nephew one of my favourite Chinatown places in Toronto. We were seated very quickly, despite the lunch rush. Very clean tables and floors, and a well-lit area. Since there were eight of us, we got the round table with a lazy Susan. We started with the chicken and corn soup, which heated us up quickly on a chilly January day. Then the dim sun arrived in numbers, from the delectable Har Gow, the scrumptious Siu Mai, the tasty deep-fried squid tentacles, the texture of the curried cuttlefish, and the interesting mouth-feel of chicken feet. Sizzling plates of beef in black bean sauce and shrimp/scallops in a Szechuan sauce were just epic, arriving to the table in a scathing aroma that made my mouth water. We had to balance all that great protein with some savoury Gai Lan, sautéed in garlic. All in all, we arrived in cold spirits, but left with full bellies! Thanks for showing my niece and nephew one of the best establishments on Spadina!

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
