Came in on a Monday at 1pm. The restaurant was 30% full so we got a table immediately. They do not have chrysanthemum tea. Tea is $1.50 each person. Items are made to order. Interior is bright and modern. If you pay by cash you receive a 10% discount off your bill. They also offer a membership card for $20 which offers discounts and waives the tea charges. Majority of the items we've ordered, I enjoyed. Especially the chicken feet which I usually don't eat. My least favorite was their new seaweed crab roll which is fried imitation crab sticks wrapped in seaweed. You get 3 pcs with mayo to dip for $7.38. Not worth it. Also the short ribs were chewy. Service was friendly and items came out in a timely manner.

Had a very pleasant dining experience yesterday. This place is just over 1 year old and they seemed to already establish to be a sucessful restaurant. Food was excellent, price was resonable, service was very attentive, maintained both dining room & washroom very clean. I have never had a server came to the table to check on us to make sure everything was okay in any restaurants in Chinatown before to be honest. Was very impressed by the attentive service. And most of servers spoke English fluently which was a plus. It also had a new generation vibe but was full of senior Chinese to have Sunday brunch which means food is authentic. 1. I would order anything in rice rolls form on a sizzling plate($11.88) again. Both short ribs rice rolls & rice rolls in XO sauce were great. 2. Stuffed eggplant & jalapeno($8.38) will be also must to have. 3. ST 8- Big 3 pieces of Chiu Chow style chicken & nuts($6.38) were really good. Dumpling was plump with lots of stuffing. There is 10% discount if you pay in cash. $1.50 each for teapot service. I will return for more food for sure.

. came here with my out of town cousins . the moment we stepped inside the environment was definitely super big and bright, very inviting and clean compared to some other resturants in chinatown . table of just 4 but service took forever? while it was early in the afternoon so not many other tables were seated . food took over 20/30mins to come out after putting in our order . our server was nice and super friendly, but one older lady was a little more rude and snappy towards us when we asked nicely for hot sauce/ extra plates etc . overall food was alright, dim sum sizes were on the bigger side? prices were also more on the steeper side... . not the biggest fan on the meat dishes but the deep fried squid tentacles were !!! yum

My family was visiting Canada for a few days and dim sum breakfast was on the itinerary. We stopped by Wok Theory for a quick dim sum breakfast before heading to the aquarium. My husband wanted to be in the old Chinatown area to explore so this restaurant was one of my option to choose from. I wanted a slightly more upscale dim sum breakfast restaurant than the typical mom and pop restaurant and Wok Theory stood out from all the other dim sum places we looked at. I wasn't going for the dim sum cart experience, we had plenty of that back home. I was looking for a clean modern upscale restaurant instead since we were in another country. Cleanliness was a must. I think Wok Theory, with its modern interior design and menu, will satisfy anyone new to dim sum. You have all of the traditional dim sum items brought out to you one by one. Food is served at an amazingly quick pace. Be prepared to have all dishes prepared and at your table in less than 15 minutes, even if you ordered over a dozen like I did. Each dishes came piping hot. The Shumai was some of the juiciest I have had. Shrimp rice rolls, century egg congee, and steam tripe were standard as was the steamed buns. The stuffed jalapeño peppers were my favorite but the eggplants needed maybe a little more shrimp paste stuffing. The honeycomb tripe and the chicken feet had a slightly different taste than the ones I had back in Boston but they were still good. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the dim sum was and most impressed with the atmosphere, the modern storefront and interior and extremely clean restroom. If you are trying dim sum for the first time, and you are visiting or if you live in Toronto, ON Canada, you should definitely come to Wok Theory. Service is excellent. I have no complaints at all. I highly recommend this place. See my pictures.

We came on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm and this place really hit the spot for us. We loved the soup dumplings, custard dumplings, and green beans. Service was not ideal. They probably had as many servers as there were occupied tables, but yet we were rarely checked on. But the food was great and came out in reasonable timeliness. Recommend

Found this new place in the former Shanghai Shikumen location. I am still grieving Shanghai Shikumen's XLB. When I saw this new restaurant Wok Theory and approached the storefront for the menu, and found that they have XLB - I immediately went in and ordered it (ST11 Pork Soup Dumplings 5pcs $5.80). It was a take out - I also got Shrimp Rice Roll (RR2 $6.80). The restaurant is stylishly decorated. I found that there are more restaurants like this emerging in/around this "old Chinatown" area. Which is kind of nice to bring in new crowd for sure. XLB was OK. Good amount of soup, the soup X meat ratio was appropriate, but the wrapper was kind of rubbery side (similar to the texture of dumplings with lye water). The wrapper did not have the nice wheat delicacy and flavor as I wished. But what can I expect more, it is $5.80 for 5pcs, and it is not their signature item like Shanghai Shikumen anyways ... The shrimp rice roll was good. It had generous, large and plumpy shrimps inside. The wrapper's texture was not as smooth as I wanted though. I also wondered why it came with vinegar, instead of savory sweet sauce. I want to come here for eat-in next time. May be with people who are new to dim sum. Nice ambience. Excellent location.

I dropped by to see some friends very briefly at Wok Theory Restaurant and got to taste two dim sum dishes a loved! The bok choy with goji berries was delicious. I need to eat more healthy greens like this! And the sautéed green beans were outstanding! So delicious and wish I could eat this everyday. Service was fast and ambiance had a cool, futuristic vibe like I was on a starship from a Star Trek show! I'm definitely coming back for a full dim sum lunch!

This is a new dim sum joint located at the heart of Downtown Toronto - Chinatown. Newly contemporary themed renovated establishment offers a variety of dim sum items for you to chose from. The venue is clean and the staffs were friendly. They also offer two private vip rooms for a more exclusive dinning experience. Tea: 1.5$/ person All dim sum items are less than 10$/ each. Credit card is accepted at this establishment.

We wanted to try dim sum in Toronto and Wok Theory did not disappoint. The restaurant is clean (tables, dishes, restroom) and the food was really good. The service was attentive and we didn't feel rushed. I felt that they put a lot of care and pride into the food. We ordered 9 dishes and they were all delicious. My three favorite were the fried tarot root puff, rice noodle with bbq pork and egg tarts. Sorry for the lack of pictures. I didn't think I was going to write a Yelp review, but I feel that people should know about Wok Theory if they want good dim sum. I would definitely return but unfortunately we are just visiting. 4.5 stars!

Items that I got this visit: - har gow shrimp dumplings: overall pretty good, but the wrapper was a bit thicker than I expected. Would prefer a thinning dumpling wrapper - chicken feet: excellent, very tender and flavor was great - tofu skin wrap in abalone sauce: pretty good, the meat inside was lean and well balanced with the veggies - spare ribs in black bean sauce: this was a bit of a disappointment. The ribs were a bit tough and also underseasoned. It could have used some more salt and some extra cook time. Service was fine, nothing special. The restaurant overall was pretty nice and modern. I hope to come back sometime and try some other dishes.

There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.

I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
