Went here for lunch and had a great experience overall. The restaurant was packed, which is always a good sign and the space itself was well designed and visually appealing. The food was delicious with good portion sizes, and the service was excellent. The only downside was that the prices were a bit on the higher side, but the quality of the meal made it worthwhile.

Clean tasting dim sum and stir fry noodles. The highlight was the crispy rice shrimp roll and stir fried beef noodles. The shrimp roll was red and had great crispy and soft textures. The beef noodles had a good wok hei. You can skip on the squid tentacles. The durian puff was not too sweet.

Visited during dim sum time. There was a line to queue as usual. When we called ahead, the waiter said there was no queue, you can just walk in. That unfortunately wasn't correct and we ended waiting 45 minutes for a table. After receiving a table, the food arrived fairly promptly. The seating arrangement was very comfortable and spacious. The food looked fairly good and taste good. Will visit in the future and arrive earlier to avoid the queue.

With a dear friend visiting from Vancouver for the first time since the start of the pandemic, our foodie adventures resumed, exploring restaurants around Toronto, with good food! Our first stop was for dim sum at Providential 9 in Markham. The decor was nice, resembling an old Chinese courtyard. They even had real tablecloths on the tables, not the cheap plastic sheets. With a few stops planned for our day, we ordered only four dishes. The portions were bigger than what we're used to from other places. - Pork Short Ribs, Chinese Yam, Black Bean Sauce - Bean Curd Roll with Vegetables - Crispy Turnip, Taro Cake, Oat Bran - Beef Tendon The flavours were good and the prices were very reasonable, with an early bird discount. I'd come back to try more dishes.

Came here Tuesday night with friends and it's half full. Inside is newly renovated with big sitting area. We ordered: 1. Chicken stew-5/5 2. Eggplant and Tiger shrimp stew -4/5 3. 椒丝通菜- 3/4 4. 白果水鸭汤- 5/5 The service is very attentive and prompt. And interior decorations are nicely designed. Price wise, It's towards a bit pricy end compared to other Cantonese restaurants. I heard that they serve good dim sum as well, will come back and try.

Extreme Caution! Diner beware, a celebratory dinner including Peking duck and other items, unfortunately ended with a disappointing and very concerning experience. The pancakes that were served with our Peking duck were covered in mold! All diners including three small children ( 3 to seven years old) ate one serving before we realized that the remaining pancakes in the dish were completely covered in mold. When raised with the servers and management, the response was concerning as they seemed to brush it off and did not understand the severity of the health concern that we noted with a response to give them a call if the children get sick. Needless to say, we will be staying far away and reporting to the health authorities. Diners beware :(

This is a classy dim sum place with a top notch reputation but also with quite an unassuming and modest exterior and some cryptic signage to boot.   After a puzzled double-take though, we entered to enjoy not only a classy dim sum brunch but one with a lot of exotic, creative, and tasty dishes.  Service was prompt, professional, and attentive.   We had the following dishes.  All were excellently prepared and as mentioned many were exotic and uncommon. Foie gras siu mai  King prawn har gow Abalone with minced meat tart Beef tendon in satay sauce Scallop/prawn dumplings Mushroom and pea leaf dumplings Tofu skin rolls Rice rolls with mixed mushrooms  Pumpkin and Chinese yam porridge Baked durian pastries  Sesame balls with salty egg yolk There was also a $15 CD charge for our 2 pots of different teas.  Overall, a very enjoyable and delicious dim sum outing and probably the most exotic one in our dim sum experience.  The value was also amazing for the menu with the total pre-tip bill being a relatively modest $118.53 CD or  $87.80 USD.  A tip-top thumbs up and highly recommended!

The restaurant is tidy and spacious. Comfortable seating. Decent service. People said their Peking duck is great but so so for me. The warping pancake was very good, thin and soft with chewy texture. But the roasted duck skin is soft, it should be a crisp skin and the duck is too meaty, well, the duck taste was ok. The steamed fish was a bit over cooked. Claypot chicken is ok but nothing special. Overall food taste ok, and just ok. lol

Stylish & elegant interior. Many groups of people lined up for tables during busy Saturday lunchtime. We did not book but were offered a table (for 3) in 10 mins. Had - Har Gow - Shrimp spring rolls - Crispy red rice rolls with shrimps - Steamed scallop on a half shell - Crispy beef short ribs - Crispy Squid legs - Sticky rice in lotus leaf - Crispy fried meat dumplings - Mushroom & snow pea dumplings - Sticky rice and vermicelli stair fry - Deep-fried chicken knee All dishes were refined - had the very right amount of seasonings, never too strong never too sweet never too salty, just the right amount, extracting the best of each ingredient. I loved their red rice rolls. Plump shrimp and crispy vegetables (deep-fried) were wrapped in the sticky/chewy rice rolls - enjoyed the new texture! Sticky rice noodles embracing deep-fried crispy vegetable & donuts and plumpy shrimp. Enjoyable. Steamed scallop - the grass noodle on top soaked up the juice from the scallop, eating it with a plump, perfectly cooked meaty scallop & eggs and fried minced garlic - Yum!!!!! I will come back again :)

Hock pork with ginger in sweet rice vinegar

After listening to the news of a potential nuclear strike at the war zone, the first thing came into my mind is to have Dim Sum with my family before it is too late. Since I have bad experiences with discount morning Dim Sum and Hong Kong style café Dim Sum restaurants, I decided to try something a bit fancier. The first thing attracted me at the Providential 9 restaurant is their Jiangnan scenery style décor. This elevates the whole dim sum tea time experience to the next level. My personal favourites of all the dim sums we ordered are the caviar and foie gras Siu Mai, hock pork with ginger in sweet rice vinegar, baked BBQ pork bun, crispy taro w/ mushroom dumpling, and Cantonese sponge cake. I also ordered some of their "bird's nest" feature dim sum such as the seafood and bird's nest dumpling in soup and fresh bird's nest milk tart. Some of their dim sums are over steamed, like the Chiu Chow style dumpling (just skip this one) and traditional salted egg yolk layered cake (very soggy). The Seafood and bird's nest dumpling in soup is a bit salty, as I believe the chef uses the Cantonese style "high soup" consommé that is super concentrated. Overall, my family and I really enjoyed this Jiangnan scenery style décor place. Plus, the dim sums are great as well. Also, the manager is very friendly and helpful. Friendly advice, this dim sum restaurant is packed during lunch hour. Make sure you book a table in advance and choose an early timeslot (I booked 10 AM on a Saturday morning).

At first glance, this place didn't look like much from the outside and it's could be very easy to miss. The interior is decorated well and resembles a traditional courtyard back in the dynasty days in China. The furnishing and thoughtful touches also go very well with the whole place. I'm honestly more impressed by the decor and design than the food. The food is pricier than some other dim sum restaurants we normally go to because they try to dress up the food with touches of delicacies and luxury items, such as the fois gras caviar siu mai and fish maw congee. The siu mai were big but tasted dry and bland in taste. I prefer the har kow more. The fish maw congee didn't have much taste at all and almost resembled plain congee. They probably used a very small amount of fish maw in it. Such a scam. I would have much preferred plain congee if I knew that was what it would taste like. The rice noodle rolls (腸粉), which I didn't get pictures of, were one of the better dishes. I also liked the molten custard salted egg buns (流沙包). Service is very slow and sometimes you have to flag down a waitress because they don't stop by to check on you often. That is very typical with chinese restaurants though, so I wasn't surprised. Overall, it was decent at best but I'm not sure we will be back for dim sum here.

Came here for dim sum. Came around 11:20am on a Saturday with 25 tables ahead of us. You can go in and put your name on the waitlist on the tablet and they'll text when a table is ready for you. This place is super busy with huge lines and we knew it so we ran some errands first. It took 2 hours before our table was ready. Some unique dishes on the menu like foie gras siu mai but honestly taste wise it was only okay. Same with their truffled beef rice rolls. Their fried dishes seemed more solid! We really liked their deep fried turnip and taro cubes (with oats on top...) and their shrimp spring rolls were really nicely done. Definitely not worth waiting a long time in line for, but would be decent without a line! Prices are on the higher end for sure as well. Lovely interior and aethetics though. Spacious with individual washrooms.

Came here on a Saturday morning for an early dim sum lunch. It wasn't too busy and we were seated relatively quickly. They have an iPad waitlist system so you can always enter your name and phone number and come back when your table is ready. The inside is nicely decorated, reminiscent of a Chinese courtyard, and tables are very spaced apart. This gives a very relaxed ambiance compared to the loud and chaotic nature of other dim sum spots. Service was relatively friendly and attentive for a Chinese restaurant. Pricing is on the higher end, and they have a lot of interesting takes on dim sum items, such as the black caviar and foie gras siu mai. The dim sum itself was so-so, a lot of the steamed dishes were made in advance, so it wasn't fresh. Portions were decent. All in all worth checking out if you're looking for a unique, less noisy dim sum experience.

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
