Location/service This place is located right in the heart of downtown Markham, right across from the Canada Carousel. Really big sign that you can't miss. Parking is available right by the carousel or you can go underground by the condo complex. Interior is pretty standard. Nice to see that they have tables available for you to dine-in, but I see most are doing to-go, so nice convenience. Staff were friendly and nice to see they are following health and safety quite seriously when assembling the bowls. Food Their food had always been pretty staple, where you can either select a fixed menu setup or build your own poke with a choice of base/protein/toppings. I also like that they have an option to do salad or soba noodles besides rice as the base. I went for the Aloha Honey Ginger Salmon (crab meat slaw * pineapple * seaweed salad * masago) and Mauna Loa Spicy Shoyu Salmon (edamame * spicy cucumbers * spicy seaweed salad * masago) They've got daily specials too, so it's nice you don't have to break the bank. Decent Poke to fill my tummy! Poke Guys is located in the center of Downtown Markham, which is super convenient if you live in the area. I ordered the regular Cali bowl, which comes with both Shoyu Salmon and Shoyu Tuna. You get to choose between white and brown rice, as well as what kind of topping and sauces you like. They have a ton of options for sauce, but I ended up opting for the unagi sauce and miso sesame sauce. The sauces definitely add to the flavour of the bowl! For me, the tuna was a tad mushy, maybe not as fresh as it can be. I enjoyed the salmon, as well as the crab salad that comes with the Cali bowl. Definitely add the crispy shallots, they add such a great texture! Kind of like the croutons of the poke bowl world. The regular size was definitely enough, I still had half the bowl left. Temperature of the food is just right, not too cold where the rice gets hard! Overall a decent Poke bowl place. The only thing I would say is it was pricey. We did get two Poké bowls, one create your own and the other one was one of the California Poké bowls it cost about $57 for two people which I feel was a little too pricey for just a kind of fast food type of Meal if the price was about $15-20 a person then I would say yes it's great but that's why I'm giving it a four star ready because it was a little pricey for something that could've been like a subway fast food meal read more

When I downgrade a review, I take my time to assess it. My horrible experience occurred on July 2 this year. I have stewed over it for a few months and decided that I still feel the same way now as I did then. The difference is that I am not writing it out of anger. I have more clarity and calmness. I was a huge supporter of Poke Guys, specifically the downtown Markham location, during this pandemic. On this particular Friday, after being out and about on my staycation, I decided to grab dinner from here. I ordered through Ritual, like I had been doing since April 2020. The weather forecast stated rain all day. Yep, it was raining. When my order was ready, I parked along Birchmount Road and headed over. The sign on the door said a maximum of five people in the store. Yep, there were five customers inside. I stood outside with my umbrella keeping me dry. A couple came over, looked at the sign, and stood near me with their umbrella. A guy walked over and asked me whether there was a lineup. I let him know that the maximum of five people in the store had been reached, pointed at the sign, and said that we were all waiting to go inside. He did not have an umbrella and waited, pacing here and there, and looking inside the store. A male employee made eye contact with this soaked man and waved him inside. He handed this guy his order and he walked out. I was outraged. The three of us were abiding by the rules as customers. Annoyed, I walked into the store. I was told by the same male staff member that the maximum number of customers was five. I knew that. I told him that I informed this customer about the limit and pointed at the sign. I confronted him on waving the male customer in. His reasoning was that we all had umbrellas, but he didn't. So, he rewarded a customer who failed to bring an umbrella with a probability of precipitation of 99% this day. He also was preaching the gospel and not fully following what he was preaching. This guy broke the rule set by his employer, Poke Guys. He jeopardized the health of everyone inside by exceeding his company's own capacity rule. He also set a poor example when clearly all customers outside respected the occupancy rule. I did not appreciate the double standard applied here. As much as I can empathize that he didn't like seeing a soggy guy outside who wasn't responsible enough to carry an umbrella on a rainy day, this employee could have walked out of the store with his order and handed it to him outside. Nope. He chose to break a capacity rule during the pandemic where we could only do pickup at the time and enforce this capacity rule on me out of all people. Such a slap in the face. Had this employee not broken this rule, I wouldn't have had the need to confront him. He didn't like it. Instead, he enforced the rule on me. Buddy, you prompted me to break it and jeopardize my health. Did you apply this rule to your actions? No. He put me in a horrible position because he lacked sound judgment. Someone needed to enforce this limit. No one at the store did. This customer did. Set a consistent, decent example for all of us. As a customer, I shouldn't have had to point out this issue. Be a responsible staff member. The last exchange that I had with this guy was the following: "You broke your own capacity rule," I said, exasperated. "Sorry. Have a great day." It wasn't good enough. It sounded like he just dismissed my comment. I went on social media. It finally got the attention of someone at Poke Guys the next day. This person generally explained that he was trying to help out this drenched guest and "may have caused others to feel uncomfortable, and we apologize for this [situation]." I got the general note, "We have gone ahead and spoken to this team member, and reviewed this incident as well with the rest of our management team." I appreciated the reply. However, it was so general that it did not put me at ease. Did you tell your entire staff that they need to adhere to maximum capacity rules and to use better judgment? What about other alternatives to hand a takeout order to folks in lineups without risking the health of customers and staff? I didn't get specifics. I didn't feel like a valued customer who used to drop by this place for takeout weekly. I was disappointed. I also had to deal with this exchange on my birthday. I stopped looking at it because I wanted to enjoy my day. I also let the person behind the social media account that I would cease supporting this place after this unpleasant experience. After this unpleasant episode at the store, I did go home with my usual regular Cali poke bowl with avocado, kale greens, nori, and classic shoyu. It did not taste as yummy as it used it be. The salmon and tuna didn't taste as fresh as I was accustomed to. It wasn't crafted with care like it used to be. It was sad and the lack of deliciousness reinforced my decision to find a new poke place to call my go-to place. (392) read more

Always love their poke, it's salmon and tuna is consistently well marinated and just the right amount of sauce. I love the hefty size for the poke chunks here, this way you get more texture on each bite. Cali bowls are my go to, with the spicy aioli sauce on top, just put all the toppings on it, you can't go wrong. I asked for one poke chunk of the salmon Maui loa to try again, it's more spicy than the aioli sauce which I like for my topping but this takes away from the taste of the rest of the bowl. Extra charges for some toppings now such as the seaweed salad. The crab slaw had more slaw than crab but at least you get two scoops for a large bowl to balance that out. One entrance/exit leads right into the poke bar so for Covid line ups it can get a bit smushed in here. No indoor or outdoor dining set up still, just take it to go! read more

My go-to place for poke in Markham! It's not the best poke I've ever had, but the quality and taste is more than good enough to satisfy any poke craving I have. It's also conveniently located in like, the middle of Markham. I usually get one of the Salmon bowls, and it's always filled to the brim, and they give quite a good portion of protein. Many poke places I have been always add way too many toppings and not enough protein, but the bowl is pretty balanced at Poke Guys. I can never finish one regular bowl all on my own because it's so stuffed with all the toppings! Because of this, I think that it's quite a good deal (each bowl is about $13-18). My favourite bowl is probably the Aloha, because the honey ginger salmon is really well-marinated. I tried the Classic Shoyu Yuzu with it last time, and it was *chef's kiss*! I'm glad Poke Guys is so accessible in Markham and close to the city centre. Common classic flavour combinations in their set bowls, and considering location and what its worth, the price is reasonable. You get a decent amount of toppings and overall it is well balanced. Their salmon chunks are quite consistent in quantity, and in terms of quality it is quite decent with a nicely, not overly marinated flavour profile where you still get the taste of the fish. Rice is well cooked, toppings are good quality, and the sauces are decent, not overpowering either. I like the cali bowl as I do like the tangy flavours and sweetness. Of course, mixing of spring mix and rice is my go to for any pokebowl base! Sauce on the side so I can control the amount. Cant wait to go back! read more

As a major sushi fan, I love all poke as well. PG impressed my mom and I on all levels. We both had the large PG guys bowl w/ unagi sauce and tobiko sauce and we enjoyed it to the last bite. The ingredients were unique and flavours mixed well together; I really enjoyed the mango in the bowl as it gave the bowl a sweet/tangy kick that refreshes the palate. The sauces were both fantastic and there was enough of it to last the bowl the whole way through. Also a huge plus, the portion sizes were great. $18 for a bowl seems pricey, but compared to other poke places, PG doesn't skimp on the fish (raw salmon in ours) and toppings. I hit the bottom of my bowl without running out of fish or toppings. Also, the bowl is very filling; even when super hungry, the large bowl could feed 2 people. Most importantly, quality was just fantastic every part of the way. From the ample-vinegared sushi rice at the bottom of the bowl to the mix of sauce and toppings at the top, the bowl was great. Even the fish itself was marinated really well and the fish used was fresh/high quality. Definitely will be coming back, as soon as possible. This is the 5th time I've ordered for a delivery through ubereats and doordash before and during covid. I wouldn't have ordered these many times if it wasn't for my friends/families who wanted to - majority won. I have always put something on the comment section where I asked for extra garnish, but there was always something missing/wrong with my order or someone else's order. These were the incidents, not in chronological order: - large sized pokebowl came with a few pieces of salmon for protein - missing garnishes - did not receive any extra garnishes - garnishes that weren't chosen were in the bowl - missing topping I feel like when you call to order and pick up, they get the order right 90% of the time. If you decide to go through ubereats or other apps, they'll get it wrong and they also won't read the comments section where you also input your allergies. This truly baffles my mind. This location is around the corner of TD and facing the carousel at downtown Markham. My favourites include the Cali bowl and Aloha bowI as it's not spicy. I ordered the Aloha bowl recently, as it already has seaweed salad and crabmeat slaw without the extra cost. You have the option of pairing it with white rice, brown rice, or salad. I would recommend the brown rice, but sometimes it is sold out. The poke was still fresh and tasted good! However, I did not like how they put too much sauce on the poke bowl. It felt like my entire bowl was drenched with sauce, and there was still a small pool of sauce/water left at the bottom after mixing. It's been a hit or miss with the portion size of the ingredients and sauce. The GTA is still really lacking in poke places but Poke Guys is here to save the day! It's located at the ground level of the Nexus owned condo buildings at Enterprise and Birchmount. There is street parking along Birchmount and you can also turn into the surface lot for the buildings. There is signage indicating that you can only park there for 30 minutes and I did see security circling around. Note that if you park here you can only exit back onto Birchmount as there is a gate doesn't open for you unless you're a resident. Onto the good stuff! It's been really hot in Toronto and poke is such a great cold-ish meal. You can build your own poke bowl by choosing one of many great bases (soba noodles are $0.50 extra but very good), fish, toppings, etc. This place is a little different than the other poke places I've been to because every single non-crunch topping costs extra and there are premium ones that cost even more. If you go with their pre-set bowls those seem to be slightly better value so that's what we did. If you go with a pre-set bowl you can still add extra toppings and choose sauces for some level of customization. Some interesting things I saw with the toppings is that if you get avocado, they have pre-portioned avocado packages in cling wrap that looks to be about half an avocado so they don't skimp on that! The crab salad is also a little different from other places because it's mixed with cabbage. They do seem to give you a lot more though. My Cali bowl over soba noodles was awesome. I practically licked clean the bowl. All the fish was fresh and tender and the topping selection went really well with it too. read more

I am SO impressed by this place. A huge poke fan, my brother and I needed to try poke guys. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and while all the staff seemed busy, we were served right away. We mentioned we had never been there before and the woman helping us walked us through the steps of ordering. I loved how they had the bowl sizes on display so we didn't have to ask the difference :). We both got large bowls with spicy tuna and brown rice. On mine i added spicy seaweed salad, edamame, ginger, onions and ALL the sauce. The idea was to split this into 2 lunches the next day and it was definitely big enough to do so. The bowl was in the fridge overnight and none of the flavour was compromised. It was flavourful, SPICY!, and filling. The store was clean, covid measures were in effect and staff was so friendly. I usually like to build my own when I get poke but I wasn't too fond of how you have to pay per topping as opposed to other places where you get to select a set amount at a set price. So I ordered the A Hui Hou signature bowl (features honey salmon, seaweed salad, crab meat slaw, edamame, masago, fried onions). The first thing I noticed was how generous they are with the toppings... they pack everything in! Don't let the shallowness of the bowls fool you. The salmon is cut in large thick chunks... super filling and satisfying when biting into them. For sauce I got the shoyu and a bit of spicy aioli. Everything tasted very fresh and I got full really fast. My first mistake was thinking I needed to order a large bowl... a small would have definitely sufficed. The cost isn't light though, as my bowl came to a little over $17. If you build your own bowl I'm sure it adds up quick. Like all poke places, it's fast food style. It's pretty small of a space but there are about 4 tables for seating. There's free underground parking too. Today was a Saturday and they had a pretty steady stream of a lineup when I arrived at about 7:30. I hate to nitpick because it may have been a once in a blue moon thing but they ran out of food and closed up at 8pm when their business hours are normally until 10. I watched them turn away numerous customers. I can't imagine if I walked in half an hour later... would have been so disappointing! I love, love, LOVE poke bowls and this is exactly what we needed in Downtown Markham. With this convenient location, I can satisfy my poke cravings any time. I prefer the Signature Bowls over the Build Your Own Bowl. It's just more worth it IMO. I always get the regular size and I can never finish it. This $11.75 bowl can last me two meals! Haha. Cali Bowl - This is your typical poke bowl - the OG, if you will, and it's my favourite. It's got all the classics like salmon, crabmeat, masago and avocado. That's basically all I need to survive. I personally did not like the tuna in it (not a tuna fan) but I always forget to ask if I can sub it with salmon. Mauna Loa Bowl (Volcano Bowl) - I love spicy food and I think my tolerance is average but this bowl was pretttty damn spicy with no water. Nonetheless, it was delicious. I would make sure I can split this with someone else next time. My friend had to give me some of her plain rice to dilute the spiciness! The servers are always friendly. It is more of a grab and go place so there aren't too many seats inside. Maybe a capacity of 20? For my first visit, I tried the Cali Bowl ($11.25). I love how fresh the toppings! Especially my avocado was freshly cut when ordered, no brownish and bruised sad looking avocado. The only flaw maybe the white rice which was dry and hard and lack seasoning. Being the only game in the hood, I will be back to try other Signature bowls or even build my own. The people of the 'burbs looked up and shouted, "We want poke!" and Poke Guys whispered, "Ok". Finally bringing the popular Hawaiian rice bowls uptown, I can definitely see this little shop becoming quite popular. Who doesn't love a healthy alternative? And with all the ingredients, you've practically got a rainbow in a bowl (a rainbowl lol) which is Instagram material 101. With an impressive spread of fresh ingredients, you're welcomed to create your own or let them arrange one of their signatures for you. The most popular is the Cali Bowl, probably because it contains all of your favourite ingredients like avocado and crab meat AND it has both kinds of fish (salmon & tuna). Others like the Angry Shrimp and Wasabi Octopus are equally enticing, and the Vegetarian is a wonderful green option. On my first visit to this location, I ordered a regular Vegetarian Bowl ($11.25) + Crab Meat Slaw ($1.25) + Masago ($0.85) + green onion & ponzu sauce. So correct me if I'm wrong, but with tax, I'm still not sure how my bill came out to over $16. That is really expensive for a regular. And the additional masago came in the tiniest teaspoon amount. I would suggest you skip the additional toppings altogether and just stick with what they've got on the menu. Overall, the food itself is pretty good. Can't go wrong with what is essentially a deconstructed sushi roll. Ingredients are fresh and the variety is impressive. I can see myself coming back here quite frequently despite knowing that this is essentially overpriced fast food. But damn, what good fast food it is. Before I end this, I'm just going to nag a bit. Come on, Poke Guys, you're fitting perfectly into the sustainability health trend that's sweeping the nation. You are using SO MUCH PLASTIC.
