    Build your own Poke Bowl!
    Michael R.

Tried this for the first time over a year ago and I did enjoy it. However, after visiting again it didn't spark that same sense of enjoyment. I got a BYOB, for the sauce I got the K-Town, base was Japanese rice w/ seasoning base, carrots, cucumber, avocado (unknowing), edamame, wasabi peas, red onions, crispy onions, green onions, pickled ginger, seaweed salad, mince crab meat, salmon and paid extra for Tuna. I usually go crazy with toppings so if it doesn't sound appealing I usually enjoy it. When ordering it, I had a difficult time communicating with the person assisting me as I had to repeat myself on multiple occasions, they were very helpful when it came down to deciding what sauce would have been better to choose. When I mentioned a lot about the repeating, I didn't want avocado but they still added it in. Might have been some confusion because my Girlfriend got avocado in hers. With the actual K-Town sauce, it was not quite consistent with the amount they used to mix everything. It felt like it was lacking in a lot or maybe the ingredients absorbed it, I can't say for certain as the meal to me was pretty bland in flavour because of the lack of sauce (ingredients were nice and fresh though so I'll give them that). For the tuna and salmon, the chunks were so tiny, like I'm sure they were bigger before but these were like small slivers of salmon and tuna. Personally I wouldn't come here again as it was out of convenience, I'll stick with my usual Poke Places like Poke Guys or Makirrito. If I based this review on my first experience a year ago, hands down a 5 out of 5. At this time, I understand there are a lot of factors with this, so operating a restaurant at this time can be harder!

Umami Poke is a new poke place a few minutes away from Summerhill subway station on Yonge. I dropped by on a Tuesday at around lunch time and was pleasantly surprised by the food and staff! The atmosphere of the store is nice! They have a neon sign that is definitely picture worthy and 5-6 tables if you would like to dine in. Scattered throughout, there are decorations that remind you of the beach or nature. As you enter Umami Poke, you are greeted with smiles from the staff and decisions to make regarding your order. The concept of the eatery is a build your own poke bowl where you choose what kind of base you would like first (either salad, Japanese rice, or noodle). Next, you chose from the fresh poke selections to put on top of your base of choice. I had a hard time choosing which poke to select but decided to go for the Shoyu the 6ix (with salmon). I believe their daily poke offerings may change from time to time or they may have a special for the day. Either way, they are clearly listed as you decide. Once the poke is selected, you can choose from a variety of toppings including crab, seaweed salad, cucumbers, red onions, etc. Once that is complete you can add final toppings to your own poke bowl. A small fish poke bowl will set you back $10, while regular poke bowl will cost you $13. For my own poke bowl, I opted for the rice base and added my additional ingredients and toppings. The fish is definitely very fresh and the marinades they use on the fish are very flavourful! Probably has one of the tastiest compared to other poke places I've tried! Staff were very friendly and attentive making sure they got your order right. Since I dined in, the staff even came around to ask customers how they thought of their poke bowls. Overall, great addition to the neighbourhood and fresh and flavourful poke! The only downside is that the cost is a bit pricey.

More like a 3.5 for me. I have had a few poke experiences before and I wanted to try a new location and this was on the list. I ordered the Ktown poke bowl but unfortunately the employee told me that normally they marinate the fish with the sauce but since I went after the lunch rush, she had to make it on the spot which was fine but I do enjoy marinated sashimi more. I like the bowl they used as compared to the see-through plastic bowls. The poke bowl itself was pretty good, I just wished it filled me up more. Ingredients tasted very fresh but I wasn't WOWed with it as I expected. The employee did go around asking if everyone was ok which was nice of her to do so.

A great poke place to go to when you're midtown! Friendly staff, chill vibes and great background music. Ordering is quite simple; they list the flavours of the week, and then you check off all the ingredients you want in your bowl on one of the mini clipboards. I usually get a regular size (which is filling enough for lunch and leftovers for a little snack). Definitely recommend giving this place a try! PS. There is also a stamp card in case you frequently visit here.

I dont give 5 stars often. This place is an exception. I was a bit skeptical at first but this place really is a hidden gem. I have tried a lot of poke bowls throughout GTA and this place is the best so far. The customer service is really attentive and the workers greet you with Aloha! at the door. The fish and ingredients are very fresh, the service was quick and most of all the food was really delicious. This is one of the only places that really does not stinge on their protein. There was Tuna throughout every bite. The ambiance was nice and modern with a touch of Hawaiian vibe. Free water from the giant pineapple as well. Will definately be back.

    Salmon (avo dressing) poke

This place is really close to summer hill station- easy to locate along Yonge Street Food: Ordered salmon poke with avo dressing. I ordered a regular bowl to share with my boyfriend, portion is good for two people. Add half avocado for $1. Good salad dressing, very apatiting. Many toppings to pick from (I had them all- red onion, carrot, mushroom, edamame, bean sprouts) What makes them different is that they have zoodle option (zucchini noodle)- awesome choice for keto peeps Looks like they have different dressings every week on either tuna, tofu or salmon. Very innovative Service: Very friendly staff, I got to try the fish before ordering :) Decor: Very pretentious- for instagram, spacious, and comfortable. Good for groups.

Rain. Shine. Snow. Find me at Umami! I alwayssss crave poké & this place hits the spot. Shoyu the 6ix & Hot Hawaiian are my fav mains, but I'll get an extra scoop of the other flavours to mix it up. Usually on top of rice mixed with kale noodles (so good). I also make sure to never leave without grabbing a can of Kona Coffee. TIP: Parking is free across the street on Summerhill Ave.

Fellow poke lovers, I encourage you to check out this gem along Yonge Street! I've tried many poke places, but I believe this place was love at first bite. Their menu explains everything but having walked 25 minutes to get here (I had a prior engagement nearby and didn't find the TTC ride necessary when I could walk), I asked how their place worked. The friendly staff explained everything to me, step by step, and what I really appreciated and admired was him telling me everything he was doing - from adding soy sauce to the salmon to seasoning the rice. I got a regular sized bowl, which fits two scoops of protein. You can also get a smaller size for one scoop. They offer rice, zucchini noodles and quinoa as the base and I got half zucchini noodles, half rice per the staff's suggestion. I highly recommend the zucchini noodles! Very unique and tasty. Next time I'm in, I'm going to get a whole bowl of it and not half! As for the seasoning of the protein, I believe the flavours change from time to time but I got "Always Lit". This is delicious for any of my wasabi enthusiasts out there, or people who like it to a milder extent. The wasabi taste is there, but not strong enough for the aroma to go up your nose (and make you cry). They also have a bunch of veggies and toppings you can add in. I recommend the wasabi peas as it gives your bowl a nice crunchy texture! The guy who helped me was really friendly and nice. Even checked up on me midway through my meal to see if I was enjoying it, though the place is not a waiter service place. I will 100% be coming again (especially since I have a stamp card to fill out!)

Spicy hawaiian tofu with siracha mayo

I've had a lot of poke bowls from all over the USA, but this place takes the cake. Deliciously handcrafted, fresh and heathly ingredients with a spicy twist! I'm vegetarian so I tried the spicy Hawaiian tofu which was delicious!!! The space is also so cute and well decorated it felt like i was on the beach

Once you step foot into Umami you already feel so welcome and cozy. Loving what they did to the space. I got Salmon and tuna with zoodles, edamame, enoki mushrooms, seaweed salad, sesame seeds, & crispy onions. Everything was so fresh I loved it! It tasted amazing would totally come back and try other combo This is the first place that I know that offer quinoa as well for an extra dollar

    Sam W.

I loved my ginger tofu poke bowl! Umami is a great addition to the area for a delicious lunch or quick dinner fix. I loved that the concept is make it yourself because I always read the premade choices and always want to swap out items and make substitutions, etc. There was tofu, tuna and salmon with different sauce pairings. She let me try the tofu varieties before making a decision (lucky she did because I almost chose the spicy flavour without noticing). You can have a base of either quinoa ($1 extra), zucchini noodles ("zoodles") or rice. I had half zoodles half rice so that it would be filling but still a bit lighter. You can pick unlimited veggies and toppings (except that avocado was $1 extra - totally worth it). They also asked if you wanted extra sauce, which I did but it didn't feel too saucy/salty but I appreciated that they checked before drowning my bowl in sauce. For tofu, the small size is $8 and the regular is $11. I opted for the regular given the marginal price difference and it being my dinner. However, the small size could be a filling lunch portion. With the addition of avocado, my meal was about $13 with tax, which is great value for a delicious and relatively healthy dinner.

Salmon shoyu poke, with purple rice, carrot, edamame, seaweed salad, and ginger.
    Yulia R.

Perfect for a light summery lunch, and the poke is definitely legit! Good fish, fresh toppings. I recommend the purple rice as a base. Enjoyed the salmon shoyu in one of the two swing chairs with bright orange cushions. Casual, happy-making atmosphere, and friendly staff. (Also, there are vegetarian options, with tofu instead of fish.)

Pokito is a Hawaiian restaurant/take out joint located along Queen St. W. near Spadina Ave (close…read moreto Cameron St.). They've been a staple for poke in the area for years, however, their menu has expanded to include more Hawaiian foods like plate lunches and snacks (like onigiri and spam musubi). I recently stopped by Pokito to pick up take out for dinner as I had stumbled upon a $10 coupon from the restaurant over Facebook. Upon entering, the space is inviting and warm, with wooden accents throughout the space. There are several tables if you'd like to dine in. The menu is large and they also have daily deals as well. In the small fridge display they have a sample of their poke on display along with other items like onigiri, desserts, and drinks. Their poke bowls are likely the most popular items to be ordered but definitely don't skip out on the plate lunches as well! I opted to grab a garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch (tail-on shrimp sauteed in buttery garlic sauce on rice (can choose between white or brown rice) with mac salad and a salad slaw) for $22.50. I did have $10 off my order which was great. If you sign up for their rewards program you also get other deals as well (the next deal I get is 50% off a plate lunch for a limited time!). My order was made fresh which took about 5-10 min. I didn't mind as I just sat down to wait. Service was friendly and efficient. I had my garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch for dinner. Beware that the shrimp is really garlicy and delicious! Just be careful if you need to talk to someone afterwards because they will smell it. The rice absorbed some of that garlic flavour which made the rice even better. The mac salad was great and the salad slaw helped to cut through everything as well. Portions were large and I was full afterwards. Overall, a great place for Hawaiian plate lunches (and I'm sure poke as well!) in the Queen/Spadina area. Definitely will return to try more of their plate lunches as well as poke.

I had the spicy garlic ahi and the original ahi, and the tuna was so fresh I half expected it to still be swimming. It melted in my fat little mouth like it was apologizing for every bad life choice I've ever made. This honestly rivaled poke I've had in Honolulu, which is terrifying because that means I no longer need Hawaii--I can now die broke and mercury-riddled right here at home. The spicy ahi hits hard too. Caucasians, if you've ever cried during a Taco Bell mild sauce packet, you should probably update your life insurance before ordering. My only critique? More sides and toppings. If I'm going to spiral into heavy-metal toxicity, I want to do it with reckless abandon and at least three different crunchy things sprinkled on top. Still, this place is so good I'd happily shave a few years off my life expectancy for another bowl. Who needs retirement when you've got poke like this?

I changed things up and visited the food court at Atrium on Bay. It was nice seeing several stalls open at around 4:30 pm. It was a toss-up choice between My Sushi or Fusia Asian Kitchen. I looked at the former's menu and liked what I saw. An early dinner from My Sushi, it was! You can get a bunch of sushi rolls. There were many options. I took one look at the poke menu and knew I needed a bowl. I got a regular. You can also do a large. A Chinese couple owns this business. The man took my order. The woman prepared my bowl. The man was helpful and nice. He said that I could do rice or salad, or half of each, if I liked. I went with salad. For the sauce, I chose teriyaki. I also got a Diet Coke. I waited patiently for my food. It didn't take too long. The woman asked if I needed a plastic bag. I waived it off, as I was going to rip open and devour my food at the food court. I cracked open my can of Diet Coke. It was cold and hit the spot. I loved my poke bowl. The salmon was fresh and yummy. The mandarin oranges were a nice twist. They brightened this bowl significantly. There were crispy green bits that I enjoyed, but I didn't know what I ate... lol The greens are iceberg lettuce. I would have liked mixed greens, but the crisp lettuce worked out surprisingly nicely. The half-avocado's presentation was amazing. It was cubed and fanned out. This find was awesome! I would love to return for more. The regular-sized poke bowl was perfect. Down the road, I can see my getting a large. Perhaps I'll try the sashimi next. I love sashimi! (197)
