    Kamayan

Worst dine in experience I've had. We reserved our Kamayan experience a week in advanced, received the invoice for our meal, and paid the deposit. Arrived at the restaurant at our reservation time of 5:30 and got seated. Waited for around 45 minutes (6:15) as we saw other tables get served and asked our server when the food was coming. He "checked" with the kitchen and said the food was being prepared. Afterwards, he finally brought out the first course for our RESERVED meal. At 6:30, an hour after we had been seated, we ask our server about our food again, causing a second server to come to our table to confirm our reservation. At 6:40, they bring out our second course, 25 minutes after the first one and 70 minutes after we sat down. Finally got served at 6:50 and finished our meal in less time than it took for the first course to arrive. Throughout our wait, we got no explanation as to why our food was taking so long outside of variations of "our kitchen is very busy." It took multiple times of about our food before it seemed like they were actually making our meal. I could understand if we walked in and ordered half the menu, but this was a meal where we put in our orders a week in advanced and told them when we were going to eat. This also wasn't a one-off instance as multiple tables around us also waited 45 minutes to an hour for their food to final arrive. The most disappointing part of it all was that it seemed the owner was too busy chatting with their regulars to take the time to finish cooking our meal. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

There are a lot of places for Filipino food but this one is not a hole in the wall. Decor is interesting and unique with ample seating. The service during lunch seemed like it was the owner and his wife. Menu was diverse so thank goodness we had a pro with us. We ordered the traditional meal with shrimp, beef, pork and chicken skin served with garlic rice on a banana leaf. It took 30mins to prep and once they brought out the large tray they accompanied the delivery with some drums...so cool. The pork was tasty and so was the chicken skin. I loved the garlic rice but the rest was bland. I was expecting more flavour and spice but it was one note. Go there for Kamayan feast because it is a great experience or if you want a unique business lunch. Service and Ambiance is a 5/5 but food quality is a 4/5 ..flavour 3/5.

Giving it a 4 star for their Sunday Brunch! I felt like they were smart to pivot and offer this. In the beginning there was only a few tables but eventually the restaurant filled up to a pretty full house with birthday celebrations and the majority partaking in the brunch! Some dishes were definitely more tasty than others but I loved the variety. Ube waffle attracted me there haha but unfortunately I could not taste the flavour. - sisig fries were bomb - tacos were fun to have - garlic rice, just cuz! - they do the fried food really well. Fried chicken was yum! - breakfast options and all the soups were great! - coffee was decent, calamansi iced tea was sweet and refreshing There's a lot of dishes to choose from and maybe because I tried a variety on the same plate, I may have missed mentioning a few more that I really enjoyed. Check out the pics and give them a try, their menu's rotate a bit weekly!

Combination A: Beef kare kare. Pancit. Sisig. Garlic fried rice.

Not from here but the kare kare is the best! The beef is tender and the peanut sauce is beyond thick and creamy. Must eat it with the shrimp paste for extra flavor. The service was fast. Inside the restaurant felt like you are in the Philippines with all of its decorations.

Finally came here again for dinner recently after two years of covid limiting us to dining out. The place was completely full last Saturday evening. Make sure you make reservations. We've been here a few times in the past but it was the first time for our friends so I ordered quite a bit since I wanted to give them the full experience. We got the BBQ pork skewers which is a must. We also got the Pancit vermicelli with shrimp, kare kare vegetables, grilled pork, and a chicken dish. My favourite dish was the fried vermicelli which was very flavourful and not too oily. We also got some Pandesal bread and garlic rice. The bread was so good...soft and fluffy. We also finished off with Halo Halo, ube cake, and cassava cake desserts. The ube cake was a bit dry so likely won't be getting this next time but the cassava cake was delicious. We'll definitely be back.

Casa Manila is the place for classic, fresh, quality Filipino food that's beautifully plated and served in a cosy island resort-themed setting. The three of us tried the $64.95 CP4 Combo: Fried Milkfish Daing (a crispy fried fish split in half), Crispy Pata (crispy pork hock), Vegetable and Shrimp Pinakbet (okra, beans, squash, tomatoes, eggplant, and shrimp). Pro tip: when you can choose between steamed rice and garlic rice, always choose garlic! This was enough food for four people; the pork is an especially generous serving size. For dessert, we had the buko pandan con hielo and the mais con hielo. We split both of these between three people and it was perfect. These are both sweet, creamy, ice-based desserts that are so good that we like them even when it's snowing outside! The serving staff was extremely kind and patient and despite the busy night, they were so accommodating. Much appreciated!

    Kaldereta

The place has an awesome ambiance. There are lots of choices in the menu. We ordered the lechon kawali served with some atsara and suka/lechon sauce for dipping. It is very crispy and tasty. Presentation is good too. The kaldereta is too sweet. I ordered mild but i can taste the sweetness instead. I will not order this again. The french fries from the sisig are too soggy and oily for me. I think it's hard not to be if they are to be in a sizzler but it's good to try. The kalamansi is too sweet too but I added more water which made it fine. Next Time we will probably try the kamayan which looks good on the menu. Overall this is a good place to eat Filipino food.

Not impressed with this takeout at all. The rice was hard. The meat was rock hard. The skewer was overcooked. The salad was super sour.

We decided to get some Filipino food from this restaurant as we heard it was good. Service: Got takeout and everything was ready at the designated time. My only complaint is that I asked for one of the dishes to have chilies on the side and they forgot it entirely. Food: Chicken sisig fries - one of their featured menu items as seen in the tv show "you gotta eat here!". The dish as a whole works really well. The fries were crispy yet soft, stacked with nacho cheese, fried chicken skin (think like crunchy bacon but chicken), green onions, red pepper slices, and a bit of lime/lemon. The only thing that would have made this perfect was the spice that they forgot to put on the side for me. Seafood noodles - the noodles are cooked well, soft, has a subtle sauce without being overly salty. There's 8 rings of tender calamari (4 big and 4 small), 4 Mid sized shrimp and sliced egg. I think there's some sort of chicken or pork sisig in there too that adds a nice texture change. Seafood is cooked well. Price: I will have to say that it's pretty pricy for the quantity of food. The quality is pretty good though I'm a bit sad about missing the spice on the chicken sisig. Will definitely come back to try other items.

This is for takeout as a close friend wanted to introduce us to Filipino food the right way. Admittedly, this was his second choice as the first choice restaurant suddenly cancelled our order and we had to look for something quickly to feed four hungry adults. We had the Crispy Pork Spring Rolls, Crispy Pork Belly (Lechon Kawali), Garlic Rice, Grilled Pork Belly (Inihaw Liempo), Kaldereta Beef, Crispy Baby Squid and Turon with Halo Halo for dessert. My favorite was the Lechon Kawali, as they were wonderfully crispy but not fatty as it had layers of meat. A close second was the Inihaw Liempo as the charcoal searing packs an undeniable flavor. Both were delicious with the fragrant garlic rice. My partner loved the Kaldereta Beef and the Spring Rolls. All generally delicious. For dessert, the Halo Halo is enough split between two people. I loved all the different textures all in a creamy coconut milk base. Such an amazing meal!

We took the family to try the Kamayan experience. They had seen some photos of the set from a few friends and thought it would be really fun to try. You do need to book ahead so they have the meal prepared for you. I'll start off with the food which was good, and then end with the service and tips which I found to be not the best. The food was pretty good. Everything laid out on a leaf for you and they do provide gloves/utensils if you wish. Each portion is actually fairly large as well, but I do love how all the sauces are over the rice. The food was quite salty but I do think the meats were done well! We did order the fish extra, but it was incredibly dry, so we were a bit disappointed with that. At the end of the night, we got Halo Halo for dessert. It's quite refreshing, and while we didn't really enjoy the mix of textures, I think that's more so up to personal preference. I can definitely see why people like it so much. Service was not great at all. We had a hard time flagging down staff despite it being a small location and there's a lot of them walking around. They also beat a drum each time kamayan is being served which started out really fun and theatrical but that becomes disruptive. Even more disappointing, they charged us an 18% tip which i think is absolutely disgusting. We didn't even get proper service and had to constantly go get someone to help us. I think if you're someone who grew up eating Filipino foods or someone who is just likes to try different foods, this would be a great spot to get a taste of the culture. I personally have had recommendations for other spots for Kamayan. We don't really see anything that would have us returning personally.

    Alexis Ryan A.

I ordered take out they gave me half of the bowl a few pieces of meat bicol express, it doesn't even taste bicol express, it was horrible, the pancit is bland no taste. I waited for 45 minutes to pick up my food, this is the worst pinoy food ive ever tasted

Seafood, meat and vegan Kamayan feast
    Lina D.

I came here to redeem my Kamayan experience from last week's at Tinuno. I am really happy they had a plant based menu. I ordered the vegan Kamayan feast and was displeased with the garlic fried rice as it was not cooked to my liking. The rice was dry and all I could remember was how amazing the garlic fried rice was at Tinuno. The tofu protein was dry and hard as well, again it was not to my liking. The beans and veggies however were tasty as well as the spring rolls. My friends enjoyed their meat lovers and seafood Kamayan very much and packed the rest home. The portions are very generous and I really liked the separation of the Kamayan feast so it was not shared among our large group of friends. Everyone was happy to have their own Kamayan plate to themselves. The staff was very friendly and our server was super attentive and extremely accommodating when we all came in very hungry so she served a little appetizer to the meat eaters. The vegans were left out but it was okay as we were content just sipping on our vodka cocktails while we wait. The feast took some time to make as we were a large group of 7. Overall, it was a good experience. It is pricier and runs about $33-43 per person for the Kamayan feast. Definitely worth the one time visit.

The Ensaymada is a fluffy bread type pastry filled with custard or ube. Both were delicious. The Shanghai and Empanada were good. I loved the Mini Turon which had banana and jack fruit inside a crispy shell, coated with caramelized brown sugar. For their skewers, you can pour a spiced vinegar sauce or a fishball sauce, or both into the cardboard container. The fishball sauce is a thick, sweet and savory sauce. Kikiam is a sausage-like roll made of minced pork and vegetables, seasoned with 5-spice powder Kwek Kwek is simply made up of hardboiled quail eggs that's coated in a pancake-like batter, and deep-fried until light and crispy. I absolutely loved the Sago Gulaman drink. I love sago pieces. The Gulaman has a sweetness from agar, which I also love. Calimansi is Philippine's most popular drink. Tapsilog, a popular Filipino (breakfast?) meal, is a portmanteau of the dish's three components: tapa (beef), sinangag (garlic fried rice), and itlog (fried egg). The beef was good. The fried rice was indeed garlicy. Chicken Inasal is a grilled chicken, typically the breast (Pecho) or leg (Paa). This version was the breast. This chicken was moist and perfectly cooked. Beef Mami is a type of Beef Noodle soup of Filipino-Chinese origin. This is simply composed of tender beef brisket and egg noodles, boiled eggs, and other toppings which are soaked in a hot and flavourful beef stock. This was indeed nice to have on a cold day like today. The beef was tender. Chicken Mami is a Filipino-style soup with flavourful stock, fresh egg noodles, flaked chicken, vegetables, and tasty toppings! This warm soup was also welcome on a cold day like today. Taho is a Philippine snack food made of fresh soft/silken tofu, arnibal, and sago pearl. This staple comfort food.of course I liked this because of the sago and tofu. I love anything with silky tofu in it! You usually eat it with a spoon but you can also use a wide straw. The Milk Jelly were good. It had a lot of flavoured jellies in thick milk. There are many picnic tables in the outdoor food court. Unfortunately during the Spring and Fall, the tables are not surrounded by walls as they are during winter. We happen to come when the temperature was around 2C! It felt so cold with the windchill. There is no free WiFi. The food stall is wheelchair accessible. There are o washrooms at this food court. The woman who greeted us knew my name from the reservation. It was nice to not say much! We got a nice table in the middle of the eatery. We ordered the following items: - To' silog with pandesal (me) - Bulalo (beef shank) soup - Barbeque - chicken and pineapple skewers - Sisig with steamed rice - Cava - Manila bay x 3 We got water to start. Our group tends to go for alcoholic drinks. We went with a bottle of cava, which was the best. It was fizzy, light, and enjoyable for brunch. I wanted a Filipino breakfast and went with the to' silog with pandesal. It had Filipino bacon called tocino that was pork belly. I love pork belly and liked how it was both slightly sweet and savory. I got two fried eggs, a light salad, and an orange wedge. It came with the fluffiest pandesal that I used to sop up the runny yolks. The garlic fried rice was amazing. Everything was delicious. One of my friend had the barbeque. I learned that barbeque means things on skewers that are barbequed. She got chicken and pineapple on skewers that came dangling from a pretty skewer holder with dipping sauce in the middle of it. She loved it so much. She saw my pandesal and my devouring it as if I hadn't had bread in my life that she got one. She understood how yummy it was. My other friend got the Bulalo (beef shank) soup. He was impressed that I knew the name of his dish. We have similar tastes. I like shank in soup. If I didn't have a craving for Filipino breakfast, I would have had this dish. He enjoyed it. It looked huge and hearty, especially with corn on the cob and other veggies in the soup. As we dined and chatted, I noticed an orange drink that the table next to us had. I asked our server what it was. It was Manila Bay. It had San Miguel beer, gin, calamansi, and honey. It was a traditional Manila drink. Our group said yes to a pitcher. It technical serves two, but we split it between the three of us to see if we liked it. OMG! This cocktail was delicious. We loved it so much that we ordered two more pitchers, so we essentially had one each when we were done. It was totally worth splurging to get it. It was refreshing and yummy. We didn't get any dessert. We were full from the food and drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were our dessert... haha! The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so it's not great accessibility-wise. The washroom was clean and decent. Staff were so patient with us. We were the first group to arrive and the last to leave at around 4:30 pm. We got the bill split in three. All three of us paid with credit cards. I tapped and tipped. All was great. It's a fabulous place to enjoy authentic Filipino food and drinks with company. Everything was yummy and staff were great. I'd return in a heartbeat for more. Maybe we can do a kamayan feast (boodle fight eating with your hands) next time. (117)

Food: 3.5 Stars Service: 3 Stars…read moreAmbience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Filling This is a late review but I came here based on a recommendation by a co-worker who really liked their BBQ offerings. Overall I was fairly satisfied with the food and wouldn't mind trying some of their other offerings. For some reason I was very excited to try this place so I ordered a bit more than I usually do. We did the prix fixe menu choosing the lumpia as our starter, adobo as our main, and a halo halo as our dessert. We also ordered the BBQ pork as this was highly recommended and the main reason I wanted to try Islas. The BBQ pork definitely met the hype as the meat was tender and flavourful. The lumpia (which is essentially a spring roll) was also great with its crispy exterior and flavourful fillings. The halo halo was solid as well. The adobo was the one thing I did not really enjoy much. It was ok but this is not the flavour of adobo that I personally enjoy. It was not bad but not the flavour I think of when I want adobo. The space was large and was dimly lit. It felt clean and spacious and the decor was alright nothing special. The service was ok. They took our order, brought our food and cashed us out. Really nothing especially good or bad. All in all I would definitely come back here for the BBQ and to try some of their other offerings. Glad I came here and tried it and would recommend the same to anyone looking for food in the area.

It is free to enter the night market. Ube is a purple yam, a type of sweet potato, scientifically called dioscorea alata. It's deep purple colour is due to the presence of anthocyanins. There were so many food vendors. There was Filipino artist Leeroy New, DJ Nina Salvo, Band BotterxBroke, and a magician. We ordered the following: 1. From Tito Parley's: Salvanas ($7.00), a macaron x ice cream sandwich, Ube Coco flavour. 2. From Hazel's Best: Ube Gulaman Samalamig ($6.00), a cold drink. 3. From Islas: UBE Smash Burger (double, $15.00). The food and drink we got were so delicious! There are picnic tables to sit on. After 18:00, it got crowded, so it may be hard to find a spot to sit down. We also met a friend, Rechie Valdez, federal Minister of Small Business. She herself is Canada's first Filipino federal minister. There is no free WiFi. The festival is wheelchair accessible. There are two paid parking lots. Review 2023-304

I loved the ube pork adobo cheese bun, very unique and delicious. Some items are really pricy for what you get, but that's usually the case at the night markets. Fun to try out some limited time items for the festival. Loved that there was a ube themed backdrop to take a photo and it was great that it was walking distance to us.
