Bagnet Peanut Sauce Kare Kare.

Bagnet Peanut Sauce Kare Kare (bottom) was sooo good. The eggplant was so savoury and the sauce paired amazing with the rice! 10/10 must try. Also, the owner/staff was so nice. We didn't realized they closed at 7 and stay past the time yet no one rushed us! Thank you (:

We stopped by this restaurant on our quest for filipino food. We have been to another Filipino restaurant in the area, and the menu offerings at this restaurant were different. The people at the counter introduced themselves and gave us samples to try. We ended up getting a pork belly dish and a beef gravied dish. The pork belly dish entree was served with a delicious marinated papaya and the vinegar based dip. The beef gravy dish was very beefy and flavorful. Both dishes came with rice which was a little dry. Each entree was roughly $10.50. We also bought a plate of Ube for $12, and which tasted vary similar to a barfi (indian sweet). We also had a can of "Calamansi", which is a cirtus flavored drink. If you want to try Filipino place, this would be my top pick in the GTA!

Halo-halo
Bernadette B.

I can't really say anything bad about this place! Everything I (we) ordered was sooo good! And compared to other Filipino restos I've been to in Mississauga, this place is cheaper and still just as good! I came with my mom and brother. We ordered 3 plates and shared, which was the perfect amount of food. A 2 item plate is about $6-7, it comes with a cup of rice and your choice of two sides. If you're familiar with Filipino food, we got adobo (pork marinated in soy sauce and vinegar), bistek (beef with soy sauce, onion and garlic), crispy pata at $17 (big portion of deep fried pork), laing (taro leaves in coconut milk) and 3 orders of halo-halo for dessert at $6.50 each (shaved ice with condense milk, ice cream, lèche flan, mixed sweet beans)! YUMMM! Altogether it came up to approximately $60, might seem pricey (which it is) but in comparison to other restos, the price isn't so bad! If you haven't tried Filipino food yet, what are you waiting for?!?

Plaza is tricky to access, UNLESS you're travelling North on Tomken Rd.
Stephanie S.

Tip: Unless you're driving North on Tomken Rd., the lot for this restaurant is a bit tricky to access and it may require a U-Turn of some sort. I decided to check this place out after a friend said that she wanted to try Filipino cuisine. I've already been to Berto's, so we decided on Carinderia which is located in the unit of the former Blue Sage, a bbq joint. Space has been newly reno'd and it's a fair size, open-concept, & clean with lots of seating. There's no waiter service, but it's more of an order-at-the-counter, wait, & pay for your food when it's ready. Menu consisted of a Silog section (Filipino breakfast w/ an egg, garlic rice, & some kinda protein), Iced Desserts/Parfaits, Kakanin (more desserts), Grilled Meats, & a list of stuff I couldn't pronounce that I'm guessing were probably the dishes in the chafing dishes (mainly stewed meats). While waiting for my friend to arrive, I decided to order 2 combos w/ 2 sides, at $8/combo. Each combo came with either white rice or noodles (Pancit), and I decided on the noodles. Pancit is actually cooked to order because the guy behind the counter, asked if he could start cooking my noodles while I waited. As for deciding on which sides the have, the staff member who helped me was quite shy and soft-spoken, so I just asked him for recommendations. 2 out of the 4 dishes were really not my taste: - Kare Kare - A stewed oxtail w/ tripe, eggplant, some greens in a garlicky, somewhat tangy peanut butter sauce. Weird. No. - Paksiw Na Bangus - Am I at a Russian New Year's Party? No, I am at a Filipino restaurant. Seriously, this dish was reminiscent of something Eastern Europeans would devour. It didn't look appealing to me, but it was recommended. It's a boiled pickled fish with a pickled green chilli & some eggplant, also pickled. I thought it was a white wine sauce, but I was sadly mistaken. It was pure white vinegar, quite fishy, & very acidic. Not my thing at all. My personal palate cannot recommend these 2 sides. Maybe they are really good and authentic dishes in the Filipino cuisine, but they were difficult to stomach. If you're Halal/Kosher/Veg/Vegan, don't Google what Sisig is. Taste-wise, it was ok, but quite porkie...as I found out why via the web. The more familiar dish was the stewed chicken in a tomato-based sauce. I would go back, but I just wouldn't order those 2 particular sides again. I'd probably try the Lechon (roast pork) to see how/if it differs from the Chinese version. And I'd definitely be interested in checking out their sweets!

Combo for $9??
Jamie B.

** 2.5 ** The food is.....okay, to say the least. I had the 2 item combo, and I've definitely had better. The pork sinigang is a bit bland (but then, I like mine more on the sour side so that might just be me). The okra needed a bit more cooking time which was disappointing because I was quite excited to eat it. The adobo is meh. Either there is too much vinegar or the vinegar hasnt been simmered enough for the acidity to dissipate. And the potato was half cooked too. The deduction of stars isnt really for the taste of the food. It pertains more to the fact that I feel ripped off because of the amount that I paid. $9 for a combo is a typical price, yes. I am not going to argue against. But to seriously get one piece of meat for the sinigang? SERIOUSLY? Atleast put another one. The container is big enough that it makes you think you'll get a decent serving portion, but that is not the case. Sure, you get a big serving of rice, but it is mostly wasted if you're out of viands. The place itself is nice. Very clean, bright lights, spacious. They have a nice menu hanging on the wall showing the different meals and party trays they offer. From what I read from a review down below, they offer items that are cooked-to-order which is nice since you know you're getting something fresh. I dont know how that whole idea is working out for their restaurant, but I found that it didn't work well for someone like me who expected to be in and out of there. Its not an overall bad experience especially since its so close to my office, but I dont think I'll be in a rush to come back. I'd rather drive the few extra minutes and head over to the Dixie Park mall where I know I'll get a better bang for my buck at a different filipino restaurant..

Kare-kare Bagnet (THE BEST FOR ME)

The best for me is their Kare-Kare bagnet!!! I always order it thru doordash! It's the best you should try everyrhing. The cost is worth it

Pork belly silog - pork belly, garlic rice, 2 eggs, green papaya salad on top of a tomato. $9.50+tax

Great find in Mississauga for inexpensive and delicious Filipino food! Surprised to find out they take reservations as this is more of a seat yourself type of place. The employee working at the counter when we visited was very friendly and took the time to explain everything on the menu as many of us hadn't been here before. She also made sure we enjoyed our meal and got our feedback which was amazing customer service! I ordered the pork belly silog (breakfast). For ~$10, I got a small portion of green papaya salad, half a tomato, 2 eggs, garlic rice, and a very generous portion of pork belly (pre-cut too!). I love the taste of grilled meats so this was right up my alley! The size was just right too to fill you right up. For the same price, you could also opt for the pork belly grill box which is essentially the same as the silog minus the tomato and eggs, but the pork belly was not pre cut, though looked like the portion was slightly bigger too! I also tried a friend's grilled chicken and that was also so delicious. As we were finishing up, we were offered BOGO halo halo! I never had halo halo up until this point as I am not a fan of overly sweet desserts and that's what I always imagined halo halo to be. Surprisingly, theirs was not sweet at all which was great! The cup of halo halo was also huge so I had to split with another friend, and the both of us still couldn't manage to finish it after our meal! The halo halo was actually a meal in it of itself. Overall, definitely recommend this place! And will come back to try their Kamayan feast (which we were told we had to reserve a few hours in advance).

Silog- meals.
Rovelyne P.

The place is decent. Clean. and MEALS are priced reasonably. But individual BBQ's & desserts are a bit pricey. We ordered TAPSILOG & PORK BELLY- SILOG. Loved their garlic rice & pork belly but the tapsi was sort of dry. We ordered bbq skewer too, but it has an odd taste of alcohol. perhaps rum? Overall, we would eat here again only if we're in the area.

A true find fire good food!! So happy this was my intro to Philippino cuisine! Oh.em.gee!!!
Chrisy K.

Best ever!! A must visit for excellent Philippino food. Everything on the menu looks amazing. My fave so far is the Bbq beef rib box and the Lechon Kawali!!

Pork belly tocino style silog

Craving for comfort food after sick days, so my husband decided to take me to a Filipino resto serving breakfast but it was closed. But we were already in the mood for some "silog" dishes that we continued to seek Yelp's help finding us another place. And so Carinderia by DFlores happened. We ordered the pork belly tocino style "silog" (si short for "sinangag" - Filipino style garlic fried rice and "log" for itlog - egg which is usually fried for this type of dish) & the Bangus(milk fish - fried for this dish) silog. It was tastefully prepared and presented- clean and straightforward. The Kuya at the counter let us try some papaitan soup- beef and its organ meats in some tinge of bitter and sour clear hot broth, it was delicious and appropriate for a chilly snowy winter weather. The Kuya in the kitchen however prepared our supposedly take out Kare-kare which eventually ate with our silog meals. Kuya did an awesome job! I came from a family of excellent cooks and tasted almost all the best made Filipino dishes. But I should say that the kare-kare is a "yes" for me. It was a happy meal for us. We also got the ube halaya to take home.. Oopps. No photo. We ate it the car while driving home. A great place to go. We will come back to try the rest of the menu.

Bangussilog. A whole fried milk fish for breakfast? Yes please.

We ordered their Halo-Halo, Palabok and their Berto's Fried Chicken. Halo-Halo (5/5) is hands down the best summer dessert. It's so refreshing and had the perfect blend of sweetness and creaminess. They added the perfect amount of ube ice cream, caramel flan and a mixture of jelly, red beans and sugar palm fruit at the bottom. It's a must-try treat. Palabok (2/5) was okay. It was a bit dry and not as saucy as we would've preferred. It could use some chicharron (pork rinds). There's not much protein in this meal other than the boiled egg which was a let-down. We also noticed that some of the noodles have crisped up as well which must've been from the heat lamp/steam table. The dish could use some shrimp and topped with some fried garlic chips. Berto's Fried Chicken (5/5) was delicious. It was fresh, tender and juicy. It had the right amount of seasoning that didn't make it overwhelmingly salty. The garlic fried rice and fried eggs were a great combination with chicken. Any of their breakfast items have always been good.

The place was about half full at lunchtime but we still snagged a nice table in the corner. Our server was very helpful and explained what certain items on the menu were. Before we got the food we ordered, though, we were provided small free bowls of a simple shrimp and garlic broth. Simple but delicious, and a great way to start off the meal. For my main, I got the Chicken Inasal w/ Atsara. (It's got the name of the restaurant in it, so I really had no choice.) It's a very tasty dish consisting of a perfectly-cooked piece of chicken, a heaping pile of garlic rice, and a small, zesty coleslaw. Everything is really, really good, and it wasn't long before I cleaned my plate. And because we're pigs, we also shared a plate of the Sizzling Sisig ("Crispy Pork with Onion, Chili and Calamansi"). As advertised, this arrived to the table sizzling. It's a seriously tasty dish. The crispy bits of pork combine with the other components to create a completely addictive dish. I could see myself vegging out in front of the TV with this concoction. Bella's Inasal is a terrific little place. I'm really glad we checked it out.

A few Saturdays back, a couple of friends and I met up at Islas Filipino BBQ and Bar. We all…read morepitched eatery ideas and went with this suggestion from our Filipino friend who has always been my guide when it comes to Filipino food. We originally planned on going in early February. We meet up roughly every two months. One friend had to cancel. I was away during the long Family Day weekend. Instead, we rescheduled to the Saturday after the long weekend. I am the reservation booker in our group. I don't wait for someone to do it. It's an automatic instinct. I booked online twice. It was easy to cancel my first reservation and reschedule. You get a text message that confirms that your reservation is good or that your cancellation request went through. You also get a reminder a day before and an hour before your reservation. Nice! I had no problem finding a parking spot on Queen Street West, steps away from the eatery on the north side of the street. It's Green P parking, so I paid for three hours of parking through the app. I then started a new session for an hour because we tend to go over three hours when we dine as a group. It's such a great app and is convenient! One of my friends had arrived when I did. Moments later, our other friend made it. We all walked into the restaurant. The woman who greeted us knew my name from the reservation. It was nice to not say much! We got a nice table in the middle of the eatery. We ordered the following items: - To' silog with pandesal (me) - Bulalo (beef shank) soup - Barbeque - chicken and pineapple skewers - Sisig with steamed rice - Cava - Manila bay x 3 We got water to start. Our group tends to go for alcoholic drinks. We went with a bottle of cava, which was the best. It was fizzy, light, and enjoyable for brunch. I wanted a Filipino breakfast and went with the to' silog with pandesal. It had Filipino bacon called tocino that was pork belly. I love pork belly and liked how it was both slightly sweet and savory. I got two fried eggs, a light salad, and an orange wedge. It came with the fluffiest pandesal that I used to sop up the runny yolks. The garlic fried rice was amazing. Everything was delicious. One of my friend had the barbeque. I learned that barbeque means things on skewers that are barbequed. She got chicken and pineapple on skewers that came dangling from a pretty skewer holder with dipping sauce in the middle of it. She loved it so much. She saw my pandesal and my devouring it as if I hadn't had bread in my life that she got one. She understood how yummy it was. My other friend got the Bulalo (beef shank) soup. He was impressed that I knew the name of his dish. We have similar tastes. I like shank in soup. If I didn't have a craving for Filipino breakfast, I would have had this dish. He enjoyed it. It looked huge and hearty, especially with corn on the cob and other veggies in the soup. As we dined and chatted, I noticed an orange drink that the table next to us had. I asked our server what it was. It was Manila Bay. It had San Miguel beer, gin, calamansi, and honey. It was a traditional Manila drink. Our group said yes to a pitcher. It technical serves two, but we split it between the three of us to see if we liked it. OMG! This cocktail was delicious. We loved it so much that we ordered two more pitchers, so we essentially had one each when we were done. It was totally worth splurging to get it. It was refreshing and yummy. We didn't get any dessert. We were full from the food and drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were our dessert... haha! The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so it's not great accessibility-wise. The washroom was clean and decent. Staff were so patient with us. We were the first group to arrive and the last to leave at around 4:30 pm. We got the bill split in three. All three of us paid with credit cards. I tapped and tipped. All was great. It's a fabulous place to enjoy authentic Filipino food and drinks with company. Everything was yummy and staff were great. I'd return in a heartbeat for more. Maybe we can do a kamayan feast (boodle fight eating with your hands) next time. (117)

Overall I was fairly satisfied with the food and wouldn't mind trying some of their other offerings. For some reason I was very excited to try this place so I ordered a bit more than I usually do. We did the prix fixe menu choosing the lumpia as our starter, adobo as our main, and a halo halo as our dessert. We also ordered the BBQ pork as this was highly recommended and the main reason I wanted to try Islas. The BBQ pork definitely met the hype as the meat was tender and flavourful. The lumpia (which is essentially a spring roll) was also great with its crispy exterior and flavourful fillings. The halo halo was solid as well. The adobo was the one thing I did not really enjoy much. It was ok but this is not the flavour of adobo that I personally enjoy. It was not bad but not the flavour I think of when I want adobo. The space was large and was dimly lit. It felt clean and spacious and the decor was alright nothing special. The service was ok. They took our order, brought our food and cashed us out. Really nothing especially good or bad. All in all I would definitely come back here for the BBQ and to try some of their other offerings. Glad I came here and tried it and would recommend the same to anyone looking for food in the area.
