A small fast-food-like Filipino joint near my area. Ive drove past it many many times but never knew what it was until i found their yelp page. When you walk in, ull see a big hot plate counter in the front, just like the ones u see at a grocery store. And thats their offerings for the night. They also have a few things on the menu. I was a little confused walking up to check out as I wasnt sure what I want and they had no intention of recommending me anything as if i knew what everything was. There were no labels, or if there was, i still would know what those dishes were. So i went for something with pictures. We ordered: Berto's Combi Platter (aka Combo #1) includes: Squid Beef skewers Chicken skewers Pork belly Fish Shrimp Egg plant Mango salad Fried rice Soup After ordering, you can seat yourself as u like, and they will bring the food to you. They also have a condiment table so its ure missing some siracha, ull know where to find it. The descriptions said this combo was good for 2-4 people. My mom and I definitely down ALL OF IT. And she was like, if we brought two more friends if wouldnt have been enough. In which i agree, the portion would be small for 4 people. Really liked the variety in this platter, it reminded me of kamayan, but the pork belly was waaaay too dry almost hard like a rock. The platter also came out luke warm, so after i had a skewer, the rest of the food was cold already. Id still come back to try some authentic sinigang, thats what i heard the people behind me was ordering. They seemed like they know what everything was lol

Seafood combo platter with pork replaced by chicken.

Their kamayan boxes are good value, but the flavors were lacking. Yummy garlic rice but the chicken could have used more balanced flavor and was a bit tough, the fish (fried tilapia, stuffed boneless milkfish) was just ok, bland. Lots of protein in the boxes though! Note their seafood ones don't have squid, shrimps etc anymore as shown in previous pictures.

Mmmm! This place serves some tasty kamayan feast food! We came to celebrate my aunt's birthday, and she really had a craving to try a kamayan feast. However, we didn't want to travel all the way to Toronto for Tinuno and so were delighted to find that Berto's in Mississauga serves combi platters, which are essentially very similar! We reserved a table and ordered two combi platter #1s in advance. When we got there at 6:30pm, our platter was already ready. Unfortunately, not all members of our party were present so we had to wait until 6:50pm for the platter to be served. As such, by the time the platter was served, some of the skewers and meats had already cooled. The food came with a serving of soup for everyone, and the soup tasted interestingly like the broth you find in pho. There was an overwhelming flavour of cinnamon and cloves. I'm certain that there was a ton of MSG in the soup though, as we were all dying of thirst after. The combi platter #1 came with a stuffed squid (filled with minced tomatoes and red onion), smoked milkfish, some pickled shredded papaya, mango salad, two skewers of chicken, two pork skewers, some roasted lechon and pork char siu, and four shrimp. I absolutely loved the squid and milkfish! The smokey flavour of the fish was very prominent, and the outside skin and extremities were delightfully crispy. The grilled shrimp was also delicious - my shrimp was grilled to the point where I was able to consume everything as it was so crispy. Overall, the food was delightful, and even better was the fried rice! The garlic flavour was very fragrant. Berto's had made a slight mistake and thought that we had only ordered one platter for six people, and so they had to rush to prepare our second platter. As such, when the second arrived, the fish, squid, and rice were much hotter than the ones served before. As a result of the heat, the fried rice was also slightly mushier and wetter, but nevertheless just as tasty! The second squid (unpictured) was also significantly larger in size, and the second platter came with two slices of salted egg (they had missed that order in the previous platter). The two combi platter #1s were more than enough to feed six people, and the food was surprisingly good! We will definitely come again to sample the other food - particularly the halo halo! The dessert is without doubt one of Berto's signature dishes, as almost everyone passing through the restaurant ordered one!

Small servings of beef pares.

I'm giving it 2 out of 5 stars. Wife and I drove here for 30 mins, yes we live far from this place but we wanted yo try their beef pares. So we got there and ordered 2 of them. Price was $10.50, andfor that price and i was as expecting good meal and good servings. I was disappointed that the serving was so small. The picture below says it all. It was served to us in a small container and half full, not only that, the beef pares was served to us cold. I talked to the employee about it and they quickly resolved the issue by putting our beef pares to the microwave. I know it because the container was warm when they brought it back to out table. Will only go back here if I am in the area but will not drive here for 30 mins again just for them.

Berto's never failed us yet! My friends take me here every year I visit. Their breakfast is always consistently good and the halo-halo is worth the drive from Hamilton. Although their hot food selection is not wide, they have the usual entrees we all look for!!

Breaded pork chop silog. The sauce is so good.

Very good filipino food at a decent price! Sometimes when I'm not home, I just crave some good home cooked filipino food - and this place definitely delivers that - home away from home! I definitely like this place more than others as the price is more reasonable. The garlic fried rice is perfect and always hits the spot with the fried egg and its yolky goodness. They have lots of sauces there to go along with the dishes - my personal favorite is the spicy garlic vinegar (this actually runs out fairly quick). The atmosphere is nice - very clean and the employees are really friendly. They also do catering!

Takeout menu 2

We ordered takeout by phone while we on the way. the person who took our order told us it will take 1 hour ( we are 20 min away) but we decided we want to try it tonight so we went to home depot while waiting for the time. Once we reach the place, we realize the place look cozy. We will definitely dine in once we are allowed. The ambience was nice and the place sparkling clean. Once we pick up our order, we headed home. For the price $40.60 after tax for combi 1 platter, it was not bad. The pork bbq skewer was cooked well and the sauce was amazing compare with seafood city's( a bit hard to chew). The only regret was the fried rice was hard and bland compare to tinuno (toronto) and not worth $3 extra that we paid. We will order again next time but without substituting fried rice.

Very yummy fish dishes with huge portions. The combi platter 2 was enough to feed me and my husband and then some. Definitely recommend to get the garlic rice, I could eat that just by itself!

I came here here about 2 weeks ago as my cousins and I were looking for a good place to take my grandfather to for brunch. We were looking forward to a good Filipino silog meal (basically garlic rice, eggs and meat) since it had been a while that we'd had this kind of meal for brunch. I like the simple cafe layout of this restaurant. You go up to the counter to order your food from any of the hot plate offerings or order off their made to order menu - either way, the prices are reasonable for the portions that you get. Then, they'll bring the orders to you at your table when it's ready. I also like the cute traditional Filipino details around the restaurant such as artifacts and photos on the wall and corner by the register, as well as the wooden cutlery displays and woven bowls on the other walls where the tables are. In terms of food, the garlic soup that came with each of the silog dishes was tasty and comforting in this cold winter weather. My husband's order was made up of longanisa (Filipino sausage), sunny side up eggs and garlic rice. I ordered the tapsilog which was slices of marinated beef with sunny side up eggs and garlic rice. My cousins got the same orders, while my grandpa ordered a bowl of what is essentially the Filipino version of congee. I thought the garlic rice was decent. The longanisa was good (a bit hard to mess this up though to be honest) but the beef was a bit disappointing. I personally prefer tender slices of beef - this was a bit chewy for my liking. It may have had to do with the pieces of beef being a bit thick rather than sliced into smaller, thinner pieces. I also would have liked the marinade to be a bit stronger since it had just a hint of that flavour - it might have needed to sit in the marinade a bit longer. Again, this is all personal preference. All in all, a decent meal for the price paid and I was glad that we dined here since it had been on my list of places to try for some time. I might come back here with family to try the combi platters, which look pretty much the same as the kamayan feasts that have become popular in other Toronto Filipino restaurants.

'Tapsilog' (Beef tapas, garlic fried rice, fried eggs)

Definitely one of the better Filipino restaurants in Mississauga, if not THE best Filipino restaurant in Mississauga. Located at the northeast corner of Dundas Street West and Erindale Station Road (it's in the plaza where Rose Bakery is), there's a decent amount of parking and this place is easy to find (the restaurant faces Dundas Street W). My parents and I visited on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised by, a) the variety of the menu, b) how very clean and modern the space was (you feel comfortable here), and c) that the food was quite good and well-prepared! Here's how it works: you walk in, grab a table, order at the front, pay, and they bring you the food when it's ready. Our food took about 15 minutes to prepare. We ordered a variety of the 'silog' dishes (around $8.00 each), which are prepared meals traditionally served at breakfast. We ordered the 'Tapsilog' (marinated beef strip 'tapa'), 'Daingsilog' (fried fish), and 'Tocilog' (sweet cured chicken and pork), which were all served with delicious garlic fried rice, fried egg, and picked veggies. All were delicious - if you're new to Filipino food, start off with the Tapsilog. The beef was soaked in delicious marinade and paired deliciously with the fried rice. Portions were above-average in size (better than other Filipino restaurants in the area). Prices are average. Service is nice and friendly. They also have a hot table at the front for take-out. For drinks, we also ordered the 'Sago at Gulaman' ($3.00), which my cousins and I always joke as the Filipino bubble tea. It's basically a sweet cold drink full of brown sugar, tapioca and various jellies. I found Berto's Sago way too sweet, but the jellies were soft and super fresh. My parents and I will definitely be back. Note that there aren't many tables (the place seats around 20 people total), so perhaps not the best for really big groups. For 4 'Silog' dishes and 2 drinks, with tax, and tip, we paid around $48.00.

Passed by this place and decided to try it - a great deal! The picture attached was about $30. It usually comes with pork belly, but since we don't eat pork, we asked if we could substitute it for anything and they were very generous and switched out anything pork for chicken skewers. The presentation is beautiful and tasted just as good, even as takeout. We saw the Kamayan feast pictures in restaurants in Toronto and were pleasantly surprised that we could get this in Mississauga and in takeout form too! Bertos is located in a strip mall and there's a cute bakery right next door.

Lotsa stewed meats in the chafing dishes up near the cash.
Stephanie S.

Contrary, to what most people think, I am not Filipino. So as I entered, the other diners present + the cashier appeared a bit confused as I had quite a few questions about the menu. Silog - This is what I ordered for takeout. These are rice dishes that you're supposed to eat for breakfast. The Beef Pares (chunks of brisket) that I ordered really reminded me of the broken rice dishes, complete with the fried egg, that you get at Vietnamese restaurants, BUT the ones at Berto's came with garlic fried rice (really good!) and stewed meat instead of something grilled. The brisket itself was very similar to Chinese five-spices beef brisket, although it seemed to be cooked with a bit more care as beef was a nice reddish-brown colour, pieces were cut smaller, more evenly, and there was many a coupla different spices used. Meat was very tender. Portion was sizeable, I couldn't finish it all. Came to about $9 'n change. Good home cooking. Interior: Although it's not in the nicest strip mall, I was impressed by the interior of the restaurant. Owners did a really good job to sorta remind you that you're in the somewhat rundown John Anderson plaza! Since it's an indie in my area, I'll definitely go back, probably not for pancit (I never crave this), but probably the soup noodle dishes &/or the desserts!

Michelle N.

You have the option of dining in or grabbing takeout. We ordered Combi 1 Platter ($27.95+tax) which is enough food for 2-4. The presentation of the platter was beautiful and the portion was huge. Overall, the food was yummy and was a great experience.

For my main, I got the Chicken Inasal w/ Atsara. (It's got the name of the restaurant in it, so I really had no choice.) It's a very tasty dish consisting of a perfectly-cooked piece of chicken, a heaping pile of garlic rice, and a small, zesty coleslaw. Everything is really, really good, and it wasn't long before I cleaned my plate. And because we're pigs, we also shared a plate of the Sizzling Sisig ("Crispy Pork with Onion, Chili and Calamansi"). As advertised, this arrived to the table sizzling. It's a seriously tasty dish. The crispy bits of pork combine with the other components to create a completely addictive dish. I could see myself vegging out in front of the TV with this concoction. Bella's Inasal is a terrific little place. I'm really glad we checked it out.

We all…read morepitched eatery ideas and went with this suggestion from our Filipino friend who has always been my guide when it comes to Filipino food. We originally planned on going in early February. We meet up roughly every two months. One friend had to cancel. I was away during the long Family Day weekend. Instead, we rescheduled to the Saturday after the long weekend. I am the reservation booker in our group. I don't wait for someone to do it. It's an automatic instinct. I booked online twice. It was easy to cancel my first reservation and reschedule. You get a text message that confirms that your reservation is good or that your cancellation request went through. You also get a reminder a day before and an hour before your reservation. Nice! I had no problem finding a parking spot on Queen Street West, steps away from the eatery on the north side of the street. It's Green P parking, so I paid for three hours of parking through the app. I then started a new session for an hour because we tend to go over three hours when we dine as a group. It's such a great app and is convenient! One of my friends had arrived when I did. Moments later, our other friend made it. We all walked into the restaurant. The woman who greeted us knew my name from the reservation. It was nice to not say much! We got a nice table in the middle of the eatery. We ordered the following items: - To' silog with pandesal (me) - Bulalo (beef shank) soup - Barbeque - chicken and pineapple skewers - Sisig with steamed rice - Cava - Manila bay x 3 We got water to start. Our group tends to go for alcoholic drinks. We went with a bottle of cava, which was the best. It was fizzy, light, and enjoyable for brunch. I wanted a Filipino breakfast and went with the to' silog with pandesal. It had Filipino bacon called tocino that was pork belly. I love pork belly and liked how it was both slightly sweet and savory. I got two fried eggs, a light salad, and an orange wedge. It came with the fluffiest pandesal that I used to sop up the runny yolks. The garlic fried rice was amazing. Everything was delicious. One of my friend had the barbeque. I learned that barbeque means things on skewers that are barbequed. She got chicken and pineapple on skewers that came dangling from a pretty skewer holder with dipping sauce in the middle of it. She loved it so much. She saw my pandesal and my devouring it as if I hadn't had bread in my life that she got one. She understood how yummy it was. My other friend got the Bulalo (beef shank) soup. He was impressed that I knew the name of his dish. We have similar tastes. I like shank in soup. If I didn't have a craving for Filipino breakfast, I would have had this dish. He enjoyed it. It looked huge and hearty, especially with corn on the cob and other veggies in the soup. As we dined and chatted, I noticed an orange drink that the table next to us had. I asked our server what it was. It was Manila Bay. It had San Miguel beer, gin, calamansi, and honey. It was a traditional Manila drink. Our group said yes to a pitcher. It technical serves two, but we split it between the three of us to see if we liked it. OMG! This cocktail was delicious. We loved it so much that we ordered two more pitchers, so we essentially had one each when we were done. It was totally worth splurging to get it. It was refreshing and yummy. We didn't get any dessert. We were full from the food and drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were our dessert... haha! The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so it's not great accessibility-wise. The washroom was clean and decent. Staff were so patient with us. We were the first group to arrive and the last to leave at around 4:30 pm. We got the bill split in three. All three of us paid with credit cards. I tapped and tipped. All was great. It's a fabulous place to enjoy authentic Filipino food and drinks with company. Everything was yummy and staff were great. I'd return in a heartbeat for more. Maybe we can do a kamayan feast (boodle fight eating with your hands) next time. (117)

Overall I was fairly satisfied with the food and wouldn't mind trying some of their other offerings. For some reason I was very excited to try this place so I ordered a bit more than I usually do. We did the prix fixe menu choosing the lumpia as our starter, adobo as our main, and a halo halo as our dessert. We also ordered the BBQ pork as this was highly recommended and the main reason I wanted to try Islas. The BBQ pork definitely met the hype as the meat was tender and flavourful. The lumpia (which is essentially a spring roll) was also great with its crispy exterior and flavourful fillings. The halo halo was solid as well. The adobo was the one thing I did not really enjoy much. It was ok but this is not the flavour of adobo that I personally enjoy. It was not bad but not the flavour I think of when I want adobo. The space was large and was dimly lit. It felt clean and spacious and the decor was alright nothing special. The service was ok. They took our order, brought our food and cashed us out. Really nothing especially good or bad. All in all I would definitely come back here for the BBQ and to try some of their other offerings. Glad I came here and tried it and would recommend the same to anyone looking for food in the area.

However, she got a voice message in Spanish and didn't understand it. We got to La Bonita and the sign said that it would be closed till January 30. Well, we went on January 31 and it was still closed. Perhaps that was the message that my friend got -- that it was closed. The twelve of us were standing outside. Where should we go next? One of them suggested walking over to Carinderia. She said that it was "around the corner" and had never been there before. It was more like three corners, but we all walked over like we were doing a school trip. We put together a number of tables. We then went up to the counter to place our orders. This place offers Filipino food. We had two folks, including my intern, who helped us decipher the menu. I saw ramen on the menu and I knew that I had to have a bowl. The mami ramen with grilled pork belly was calling my name. My intern knew that I would get it. I also eyed the halo halo, but needed to figure out how full I would be after eating the ramen. While waiting in line, a man came over with a bin of fried chicken skins and offered them to us. It was such a kind, generous gesture. I took a photo and then grabbed one. It was delicious. So good! The woman taking our orders was sweet. She was happy talking to my intern. The Filipino connection bonded them. She thanked him for bringing us over here, ultimately bringing her business. I joked that he is now VIP at this eatery. I ordered the ramen and grabbed a bottle of C2 apple green tea. I paid using a debit card. She took my name and said that she'd call me when my order was ready. My friend started with dessert. She got flan and was sharing it with everyone at our table. I didn't feel like dessert at this stage, but it did look creamy. I was sipping my C2 apple green tea. It was yummy. It wasn't overly sweet. I am a fan. I learned a few Filipino words while we were waiting: - Carinderia means canteen or cafeteria - Halo halo translates to mix mix, which is what you need to do when you get this dessert - Salamat means thanks The food came out one order after the other. I got my food in about fifteen minutes. That's not bad, but I was hungry. At first, the ramen portion looks small. However, it's incredibly deceiving. The noodles were chewy and perfect. You get a whole hard-boiled egg that is split in half. The grilled pork belly were generous portions that were thick and full of flavour. Speaking of flavour, that broth! It was so delicious. Unfortunately, the place ran out of metal spoons. My intern asked for a spoon on my behalf and we got plastic ones. They weren't meant for ramen noodles and broth, but they still worked out well. Two colleagues got halo halo for dessert. It has a bunch of goodies in it. My intern doesn't like the texture of halo halo, so he passed. Our other colleague who is Filipino, was hoping for ice cream in it. This one did not have it, but she said that it was good otherwise. The woman handling our orders came over to our table to thank us for coming. She apologized for the wait. We were all happy and loved our food. I let her know that the food was delicious, which made her day. There are hot food items available that are not mentioned on the menu. You have to look and ask what the food items are. They change daily. I'd come back here and try more food. I loved my food. Prices are reasonable. (41)

I would definitely return to try their other items and get another halo halo, duhhhhh.
