Halo Halo
Joanlie H.

Tasty filipino food found on the way to toronto! BBQ skewers and lechon were amazing. Halo Halo was delicious of course

I ordered at least four times from them already via delivery on Uber Eats. Their Cebu lechon belly is legit the best I have tried around the GTA -- skin is crisp, the meat-fat ratio is sensible, the meat is tasty and tender. Price is reasonable. I edited the information on here as it says it is permanently closed. When I checked online, it appears that they moved locations.

Very delivery Cebu Lechon rice bowl. The skin is Crispy, meat is tender. Incredibly authentic filipino food. Highly recommended. Their halo halo is also very good not overly sweet. Love this place.

Very busy on a long weekend! There were many large groups which is probably why they ran out of lechon. Was disappointing that we had to settle for only half the menu. Ended up with the bbq platter and chorizo fried rice. Food was good..perhaps a little fatty with gristle on the bbq. Highlight was probably the Turon. It was freshly fried and crisp! Ended the meal with some complimentary fruit...some tiny cups of grapes and blackberries. Overall food was good but wouldn't go out of my way to vis

Every once in a while you discover a place which is so fantastic you hesitate to share it because you fear line ups when you want some....B's is such a place..... we actually discovered it by accident when we came to the neighborhood after finding an interesting shawarma restaurant on Yelp just down the street. Sadly, it was closed so we ended up parked in front of B's looking for another place.... I glanced over and saw the word Lechon displayed on the window.... For those of you who have never been to the Philipines you wont know but Lechon is the national dish which is suckling pig slowly roasted over hot coals.... Have I got your attention yet? This is traditionally served with one of the many varieties of Pancit thin rice noodles. As it turns out, this is exactly what B's is all about.... Judging from the legions of take out drivers who arrived to pick up large take out orders while we were there this place is no secret among the Philipine community.... We ended up buying two lbs of Lechon, a Pancit dish and an order of wok fried mixed vegetables. This was just for my wife and I but when we got home we discoved we had bought enough for 4 hungry people! One taste was all it took... this instantly became our new favourite place.... We pigged out (literally) and had enough for lunch the next day! This pork is one of the most delicious things which will ever pass your lips so moist, so perfectly prepared and that crispy pork skin.... Lookout! The only criticism is that while the menu is perfect for large groups it would be nice if they bundled some items suitable for individuals or couples... cant wait to go back... too bad they are closed Mondays! Delicious, most mostly sweet. If you like pork, these guys know how to cook pork!!

If you like Filipino food, this is the place to go! The staff was very friendly. I am not too familiar with Filipino food, so thought I'd check it out. The Halo-Halo is definitely very unique and something to try, and includes mango ice cream, beans, corn, shaved coconuts, and sweetened jelly. Most of the food is on the sweeter end.

Did you guys know that they have relocated at Hurontario and Dundas st?? Their Derry & Dixie location is no longer open anymore. Every time I go here, I get Salisbury steak ($11.99+ tax) This meal is so goooood & is very rich in flavour. But sometimes, it is a hit or miss. Coz' I often times get a burnt burger which tastes bitter. Meeeeh. But overall, still good. In addition, I find their LUNCH SPECIAL hilarious. They have lunch specials served up UNTIL 12PM ONLY. Lol. Then you gotta add +$2 if you wanted to order it on a later time. Menu definitely got pricier.

Sizzling pork sisig, I think it's called.

I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about Filipino food. In fact, I know next to nothing about this particular cuisine, so I'm probably not qualified to say anything, but I really liked our time here! The staff were very accommodating, and took time to explain what was what, and didn't mind how dumm I was lol. We ordered a lunch plate, the Cebu style lechon with salad and rice, a sizzling pork sisig, and some sour soup. I admit, I've only been to a couple of other Filipino places, and they're all I can compare to really. But at those other places (Casa Manila and Wilson's House of Lechon), I found the flavours a bit bland for my liking. Here, everything was well seasoned in my opinion. Especially with the lechon, where Wilson's lechon seemed kinda dry and flat tasting, and didn't come with enough skin, the lechon here was just right, and there was a good amount of crispy skin, too. You didn't even have to dip it in sauce. I wish I could say I knew which places are most "authentic" or whatever, all I can say is I really liked the food here. So much so that I didn't mind having the leftovers for dinner the same day hehe. Prices are in line with other Filipino places, so they're not Vietnamese cheap, but not too expensive either. Hope I can come back for lunch again soon!

Great experience - fantastic food and excellent service. The decoration is on point. The restroom and dining area is clean and organized. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We ordered pork sinigang, regular sisig which is their lechon sisig, ginataang sitaw & kalabasa, lechon (1lb) and bam-i (pansit bisaya). We had calamansi juice to drink and they served it in a mason jar which was cool. The pork sinigang needed fish sauce. The food presentation was done in a classic Filipino style with banana leaves. We definitely need to come back for dessert and breakfast.

Filipino Halo-Halo with Mango Ice Cream.

I've visited this place a couple of times and I've been pretty pleased each time. The food is quite delicious, service is friendly and prompt, it's very clean, and has a pretty extensive menu. While it's located in a part of town I don't frequent too often (Dixie and Derry), it's located not too far away from major highways (just south of the 401), so the drive isn't too bad. During one of my visits with my parents, we ordered the Filipino breakfasts (we got the tapsilog in particular, which was about $6.00), and the food came out very promptly. On other visits, we've also ordered the Lechon ($8.00) and some desserts like Buko Pandan and the Halo-Halo. The food is delicious, not too oily, and very flavourful. My only complaint would be that serving sizes are pretty small (the Lechon comes in a small basket), so I've knocked off one star. But other than, decent Filipino food at a reasonable price point. While the food isn't the best Filipino food I've ever had (that distinction goes solely to my mother!), it's still quite delicious and is a good option if you want to eat out for Filipino food, particularly in the west end. We'll be back again one day.

Great portion sizes. Good customer service. Over all good value. We came for the breakfast and ordered the tocilog.

My theory is that these restauranteurs don't want to freeze their buns off in Toronto. If you know of a good Filipino restaurant in Toronto (and I'm hoping you do), please Yelp me. Brown Sugar is a tiny little Filipino catering business out by south Etobicoke. It has a little counter where you can take-out some Filipino dishes that are mainly overage from the catering orders. There' no where to sit and there's usually a line-up in the weekends of Filipinos who are picking up their catering orders. I ordered a bunch of dishes for a party last week and the food was (as always) good. We ordered pork barbeque skewers that were tasty but over-marinated. The "Lumpias" (Filipino eggrolls) were properly crispy. The "Palabok" (Filipino noodle dish made with shrimp sauce) was the best I've had in Toronto. Finally, a warm dessert dish called "Ginataan" that's made with coconut milk and fruits. We fed 30 people for just $185 and the food was ready and steaming hot when we picked it up.

It's a small cozy place with limited seating. When you enter the place, you will see a glass counter with a wide range of unlabeled and unpriced dishes that can be confusing for the uninitiated. There are also dishes that can be made to order including the 'Silog' breakfast. Tried their Dinuguan dish and Halo-Halo. The dinuguan is on the salty side and the Halo-Halo is lacking in ingredients. At the back of this place they have a small 'Sari-Sari' store which is basically a convenience store selling Filipino groceries and merchandise such as t-shirts emblazoned with a Tagalog word slogan. And since this is located in downtown, prices are on the expensive side compared to their suburbs counterparts. But if you're really in need of Filipino ingredients or just craving Filipino food, I guess this is the place to be. Just don't expect to find everything here and be prepared to pay premium pricing.

To make a reservation at BBs was not an easy process so I tried to call multiple times as well as connect on social media. Never received a response. I've seen this dynamic in other restaurants and when I go into the actual restaurants to get a question answered say in the mid afternoon when its not busy there are often multiple staff standing around not doing very much but never answering the phone. I'm unclear whether they just have a policy to only talk to customers in person and have a social media presence so they never respond directly to customer inquiries even when the staff are not busy? I understand the switch to social media to save time and energy for staff on reservations and dealing with deliveries, but to try to call on different days and different times over a period of about a week when I needed to change my reservation for a larger group and receiving no reply when they hold $20 per person on the credit card can be an unnecessary time-consuming hassle for the customer. BBs does not seem at risk of running out of customers but for other restaurants who are similar in terms of not being easy to contact then complain about the business side of running a restaurant and potentially not being as profitable as they would like to be - they might want to consider it from the customer point of view and how it might be easier to just cancel an entire reservation than play guessing games with the restaurant staff about reservation details that hold credit cards - especially with larger parties. This is exactly what happened here until I was finally in the area and decided to just walk in for a table with a couple of friends. But glad to have made it - restaurant was beautiful, the colors are soothing, and the staff are attentive in the restaurant. Also appreciated the modern take on authentic flavors and would love to make it back to try the rest of the menu.

John was manning the stall by himself, and he was friendly and super patient with educating me about the various choices. All sounded amazing, we decided on the Batchoy (Filipino ramen), Turon (banana spring roll) and Calamansi iced tea. All were very reasonable prices. Now having Ramen as street food is not really easy to master, but I say it's worth it. There are benches nearby, making it possible. If you plan to take it home, it's double secured with some saran wrap over the edges of the bowl lid. I enjoyed this dish the most, a very comforting, homey feel with nice chicken broth and just the right balance of pork belly sprinkled in the bowl. The Calamansi iced tea didn't taste too different from regular to me. I'm not really an iced tea fan normally, and this didn't change my mind, but it did its trick to quench my thirst. I appreciate that it's a cool drink without ice. I hate it when other places pack their drinks with so much ice, diluting the drink. The Turon is unique and definitely worth a try. Oddly, I liked it better when we brought the leftover home when it was cold. The syrup that was drizzled on top of the banana spring roll hardened, leaving a crispy outer shell even hours after. From the things I've tried so far, it very thoughtfully put together. Looking forward to revisiting!
