Three dipping sauces
Ling M.

Ok so since my first review, I have been back twice! Having tried out the different flavours through their smaller menu empanaditas, we have now been ordering their fill size ones. I think I've tried ALL the flavours by now and their churros too. My latest visit, got the curry chicken, cajun pork, smoked chorizo, and bacon-gouda-apple. My favourite here is the fried bacon-gouda-apple. Such an amazing mix of flavours and the empanada dough is thin and crispy because it's deep fried. Definitely recommend trying this one. Don't know if you can tell from my pics, but these 4 empanadas all have different doughs for the crusts! Unique flavours in every empanada, AND dif textures and flavours on the outside too. The crusts of the curry chicken and smoked chorizo are more dry, but the filling I find has enough moisture. The cajun pork is spicy (has jalapenos) and kind of smoky - a lot of flavour packed into an empanada. Of these 4, I liked the smoked chorizo the least. Next time I will probably opt not to get that one. I think I tried the lobster last time and told myself I wouldn't order it again. Not sure if the lobster flavour was for me, I'd rather have the classic seafood one. I discovered this place through groupon, and am so glad I did! Delicious and has lots of variety. You can tell I'm a fan, as I've been back a few times already. They're currently cashless (which makes sense), and credit card is no-tap. I recommend calling ahead, and then picking up. If you don't live in the area, it's worth making a trip out of this! Head over to Marie Curtis park for a scenic stroll by the river.

Cute little spot with authentic empanadas - great tasting little snacks, a combo of at least 2 or 3 makes a good light meal For those that prefer a thinner "clam" vs a heavy thick encasing, you'll appreciate these. I got the Chilean Beef, Creamy Spinach, cheese & grilled veggies plus a side coconut shrimp! All tasty & handy for quick mess-free eating. *Sometimes they will have frozen empanadas available for sale - ask at the resto Features a take-out order booth with 3 small tables on their outdoor patio

First off, let me give a shout out and thank you to fellow Yelper, Mary T. for piquing my interest to try The Empanada Company. I was fortunate enough to find a Groupon after reading Mary's review, which saved me some $$$. This cute little storefront was a bit of a trek for us, so I waited for a nice sunny weekend to taste these little bundles! Parking is always a major concern, and plays a huge part in where we eat! A quick Google street view showed me plenty of parking right on the street. The two gentlemen at the cash were super friendly and welcoming. I read about the deep-fried avocado fries and thought heck, why not! We ordered the lobster, braised beef short rib, curry coconut chicken and Cajun pulled pork empanadas. Now what? Baked or fried? Decisions, decisions! I am not good with that, especially somewhere new. Okay, two of each, done! It didn't take long for our order to be prepared, and the moment I finished taking pictures and Yelping, I heard my name. The avocado fries were very delicate, and I would have preferred if forks were available. They fell apart easily. It's understandable; they are buttery little slices after all. Avocado is bland in general so they definitely needed a dip. The medium-spiced spinach and chipotle was divine, but I was concerned it might be too spicy for me, so we were given a second dip on the house (thank you). The mild artichoke and asiago dip was definitely up my alley. The dips were fantastic with the empanadas too! The deep fried empanadas were not greasy at all. I personally found the crust on the baked ones a bit on the dry side, but if I had to choose again, I would go for the deep-fried versions. Our favorite empanada was the braised beef short rib. It tasted just like homemade beef stew. If you're hungry, I would suggest two empanadas each, and one shared side dish. Oh, the 100% All Natural Pure Mango Juice was very refreshing, and the perfect choice to cut down on the richness of the meal. Curry Coconut Chicken - $4.00 Cajun Pulled Pork - $4.00 Braised Short Rib - $4.00 Lobster - $5.00 Avocado Fries with dip - $7.75 Mango Juice - $1.50 Disclaimer: Groupon - $9.00 for $16.00 worth of food was used.

No brainer five star. Called in Sunday morning because I'm an early bird, guess what , they said they are open at 11 and actually were! Amazing! Dude was super cool said call in your order because not everything is readily available. Order dozen empanadas mixed and they were ready within 15 minutes! Got there no wait! Also tree sauces. Everything was amazing! Every empanada was delicious and all the sauces. Beautiful lunch! This is how you take care of business! I'll be back often!

We got an assortment of mini empanadas and they were all fantastic. We got them to take to the park with us, but these guys would also be great for a cocktail party. The mini ones are the perfect finger food to accompany drinks. No mess, easy to share, and each filling gives you a different flavour. We are very happy we found this place. Enjoy!

Four chairs and a long table to dine at

I have a love for empanadas. The first time I had one was in Miami. My friend and I got a couple each, and I got hooked. It has come to the point where I like picking up a pack of beef or chicken empanadas from Longo's because I love them so much. I got a few Groupons for The Empanada Company. I have used half of them recently. I am thankful for hearing about this eatery. Otherwise, I would be deprived of this fabulous place. The Empanada Company is a convenient drive down highway 427 from my workplace to Lake Shore Blvd West. I can get my fix after work. Yay! You either park on a residential side street or along Lake Shore Blvd West if you can snatch a spot. I parked on Branch Avenue the first time, just off Fortieth Street, which is where this eatery is. Yesterday, I parked on Lake Shore Blvd West, steps away from Fair Grounds Cafe. The place is a small converted house. There is an equally small patio area. Inside, there is a long table with four stools. Yes, it's tiny, too. I fit in just fine, thankfully! There are TVs where I would think that the menus are supposed to be displayed. However, they were all off. I rang the bell on the table and a man instantly came over. Ah, if that were true and so simple to get a man to appear that fast in real life! Anyway, I grabbed a paper menu and looked at all the empanada varieties. I used my first Groupon towards four empanadas and got the following: - Braised beef short rib - Lobster - Smoked chorizo sausage - Curry coconut chicken I returned yesterday and got two: - Chilean beef - Braised beef short rib I got two different guys behind the counter who helped me out during both my visits. They were helpful, friendly, and personable. Some empanadas come fried only, such as the lobster and braised beef short rib. You can also get some varieties baked, which I did with the smoked chorizo sausage and curry coconut chicken. If you have the option for either baked or fried, and don't know which to get, you can simply let the staff decide for you. These empanadas are large and generously stuffed with filling. The only one that I didn't love as much was the smoked chorizo sausage, simply because it had mushy chunks of potato that I didn't want and the chorizo wasn't yummy to me. However, the other flavours were outstanding! The lobster is like a creamy pot pie in a compact form. The curry coconut chicken is to-die-for delicious! I have been in love with the braised beef short rib from the start that I ordered it again. I typically eat more chicken than beef. However, I tried the Chilean beef and it is so good that now I am conflicted. I love it just as much as the braised beef short rib. The empanadas are incredible. This tiny gem of a place also serves beer, such as Corona. It does take some time to make the empanadas. I was fine waiting there. It took between 8 to 15 minutes for me. Otherwise, you can call in your order and pick it up later. When I ordered four empanadas, they came in a box that couldn't be closed. They were securely taped. It didn't matter. I tore into one as I drove home. Yesterday, I got two, which came in a paper bag. One word: yum! I am sold. I don't need to go back to Miami for my empanada fix. The Empanada Company will feed my ongoing empanada addiction. (157)

Portobello and black bean tamales
Stefi P.

Loved the empanadas and Tamales! Empanadas - Tried the chicken, coconut curry chicken and the buffalo chicken which were awesome. The creamy spinach was just good not outstanding. Tamales - Being a fan of tamales had to try them out - They were out of the chicken tamales. So tried the portobello and black bean which I loved. Also the asiago & asparagus one but did not enjoy the flavors the way I loved the black bean. This is a takeout place mainly with few seats outside. It was a 15-20 mins wait time for takeout. Definitely coming back to try the other options!

Lobster empanada
Cathee T.

Don't mind me, just updating my review to 5 stars because I dropped by last week and finally got myself a lobster empanada! The cheesy goodness was a long time coming, but so worth the wait. The restaurant seems to be doing pretty well in the circumstances given their focus on takeout to begin with, and that's a relief because I don't know what I'd do if this place ever shut down. I was able to place my order over the phone and pickup was hassle free. They are allowing only 1 customer in the restaurant at a time due to space restrictions, which I can appreciate. I should also note that I ordered churros on a whim and they definitely hit the spot! At this point, I don't think there's anything on the menu that's not worth a try.

Yum yum! Found this place through Groupon and what a deal! $16 off. Got 2 dozen mini empanadas (one chicken and one cheese). Many great reviews, friendly and seems like they've been doing this for awhile.

Avocado fries
Carmon R.

Place was found via Groupon originally and the first couple of times going (pre ordering) there were no issues. When attempting to order the same thing again (Fried beef empanadas) they keep telling me they don't offer when I had not only seen others order no problem but was also even confirmed through their social media page. Highly disappointed and HIGHLY do not recommend! Especially in customer service, they've totally dropped the ball and I hope they drop too as there are many businesses who would have accommodated such a simple request (of diverging they already make and do daily)

Empanadas

First time having empanadas that aren't home made and I was really impressed! They have take away options and we were happy with the fast friendly service. As it was our first time trying this place we asked for recommendations from the server. He said the pulled pork and short rib were pretty popular and we went with the leek and prosciutto and bacon and cheese one. All four were really flavourful. Would definitely go back again when I'm craving that crispy pastry with delicious fillings!

This is one of those times I don't care how authentic these empanadas were, all I have to say is the empanadas from The Empanada Company were just so tasty!!! Choices if you want traditional: Chicken, Seafood, Cheese and Chilean Beef or if you want to have something with a twist: Curry Coconut Chicken, Grilled Veggie/Goat Cheese, Sweet and Spicy Beef or even Philly Cheese Steak or Pulled Pork?! Baked or Fried??/Dips on the Side? I left all these choices for my Yelp Friend while I just relaxing on the patio...daydreaming..... I want one of those houses down by Lake Ontario... 2 cute fat little empanadas just appeared in front of me! Sweet & Spicy Beef and Curry Coconut Chicken both really tasty!! Baked or Fried whatever but the fillings were so tasty! Freshly made and pipping hot!! especially the beef, I still could not get over that it has sugar snap peas, water chestnut, baby corn and broccoli inside!! They are just like little pocket of goodness and wholesomeness!! Hey!! But where is my Churros?? someone didn't get me Churros? How can that happen!! I felt so incomplete without my dessert........... now I have to come back for more!!

If youre trying to be healthy, but looooove fries - you should visit Empanada Company. Their AVOCADO FRIES ($6.75) ARE TO DIE FOR!!!! They make this fresh to order. They do have variety of dips to choose from - i.e. chipotle, and chimichurri dip (which I definitely recommend) And if you wanted to try their empanadas, you shouldnt miss out on the empanada that has BASIL, PROSCIUTTO & MOZZARELLA !!!!!! All of these together with PHILIPPINE MANGO JUICE in can ($1.50 each), and you got a perfect afternoon snack!!! Their located 2mins away from Marie Curtis Park so you could enjoy eating your empanada there too!!!!

Amazing Colombian food in big portions, quick and friendly service, and nice casual atmosphere…read more Although technically an appetizer, the Patacon Relleno Vegetariano (stuffed green plantain with black beans, salad, avocado slices) could stand as a meal on its own - very hearty and filling. The texture of the crunchy green plantain slices went really well with the soft avocado, salad, and beans mixture inside, with a delicious sauce. The Ensalada (salad) came in a very large portion and consisted of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, bell pepper, and avocado. Sancocho de Pescado (traditional & hearty Colombian soup made of fish, root vegetables, and tubers - including cassava / yuca, potatoes, plantains, corn on the cob; seasoned with cumin and cilantro) had a very flavourful soup broth that tasted like comfort food. It was served with rice, toasted arepa, and avocado. It had a good amount of meaty fish and various types of root vegetables that had been cooked really well (so they were all soft) and absorbed the rich flavour from the soup broth. Arroz con Camarones (seasoned rice with shrimps, vegetables, salad, green plantains) was my favourite - very flavourful rice with lots of big, tender shrimps.

Pork tenderloin was pretty tasty but tough & dry especially for a tenderloin. Rice was decent, with a slight flavour, but a bit mushy. Plantain was crispy. The restaurant interior was decorated quite nicely but was very warm (in summer) & service was disorganised & some servers didn't speak English well so communication was sometimes difficult. All the staff are so friendly - from the waitstaff to the chefs / owners and kitchen staff, everyone in the restaurant seems to exhibit the Latin American hospitality and friendliness. The place feels homey, cozy, and festive with the music in the background (from the TV screen on the wall), and big photos depicting different places in Colombia along the wall. Ambience is very laid-back and casual, with amazing food that tastes homemade and authentic. It took a while for the food to cook and come out (about 40 minutes) - mostly because of the Cazuela de Mariscos (seafood soup) that took the longest to cook. It was also during a very busy time on a weekend. They seemed to have a constant flow of incoming catering and take-out orders (a good sign), and the restaurant itself was packed. All / most mains come with coconut rice, salad, and tostones (fried plantains). As for drinks, you can order freshly squeezed juices in either water or milk. We ordered the fresh strawberry & blackberry juice in water, as the one in milk would make it more like a smoothie. Each juice order comes in a jug (whether it be a small or large jug). This came as a surprise to us - really good value for such a large volume of juice ($6 for a whole "small" jug that turned out to be quite big, enough to refill each glass a few times for 2 people). The juice itself tasted fresh, natural, and refreshing. Dishes that we tried: 1) Filete de Tilapia con Camarones (grilled tilapia fish fillet & shrimps with coconut rice, plantain, and salad) - Big pieces of fish and lots of small shrimps, in a very delectable sauce. 2) Arroz Marinero (seafood rice with plantain & salad) - Loved this dish. The rice was a bit soupy which I liked. It was a bit like a soupy paella (including the rice) - very delicious and packed with various kinds of seafood. 3) Cazuela de Mariscos (seafood soup with coconut rice, plantain, and salad) - Very creamy soup, like a chowder. I'm not a big fan of chowders / cream-based soups in general, but others liked it and said this was good. 4) SIDE: Ensalada (House Salad) 5) Arepa de Chocolo con Queso (sweet corn dough with cheese) All of the main dishes were EXCELLENT - loved the mixed seafood (fish fillet, shrimps, octopus, squid, etc.). There was so much seafood in every dish. In most places, you get more carbs / rice compared to the protein. Here, it was the opposite. The coconut rice was a bit dry but it's decent - good to soak up the sauces of the main dishes. The salad is just shredded cabbage and carrot with big sliced tomato. I was a big fan of the salad dressing (some creamy mayo-like dressing), but luckily the dressing was only at the top of the salad (the bottom part of the salad remained fresh and crunchy, which I liked). We ordered the Arepa de Chocolo con Queso for to go. It was different than the Venezuelan arepa that I'm used to. The Colombian arepa seemed to be sweeter and more buttery. It probably would've been better if it was eaten right after it was freshly made, and while it was still warm. There was a lot of cheese in the arepa, giving it a nice salty and savoury contrast to the sweet corn dough. After you're done the meal, you go up to the counter to pay (instead of having the bill brought to your table). Great food overall - I would not hesitate to come back.
