    Pupusas: Chicharrón, Chicharrón and cheese
    Kira V.

This cozy and unassuming family restaurant belies an amazing array of South American flavours. With delightful and invested service, relatively speedy arrival of food, and the low prices, this place is not one to be missed. We ordered both their pupusas and enchiladas. The pupusas arrived piping hot and soft, stuffed based on our choice with comforting chicharrón (fried pork) or a meat-cheese combination. I loved the flavour of the chicharrón but found the combination pupusa a little too bland (and a tad burnt, unfortunately) for my taste. The coleslaw accompaniment was nothing to write home about. The chicken enchiladas were a beautiful melding of flavours. There is also a tableside watery tomato sauce that adds something positive to the dishes, though I am not sure what... We finished our meal with delicious delicious churros dusted with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and accompanied by chocolate sauce. A fantastic end to a satisfying meal!

Pupuseria Latinos is inside a small house on the corner of the street in Kitchener. When I visited on Sunday afternoon, the place was so busy that people were waiting for seats! It was very packed. I managed to grab a seat inside this yellow-walled restaurant filled with souvenirs from El Salvadore. There is also a television where you can watch soccer as well. Overall, it was really homey and I felt as though I was transported to Central America! My boyfriend and I ordered the enchiladas, two pupuserias, beef/steak plate, and a horchata. The enchiladas were really delicious, having a great balance between crunch, saucy, fresh, and oily. The pupuserias were quite filling and came with slaw and a tomato sauce on the side. I believe most customers were eating 2-3 pupuserias for brunch. We may have over-ordered. We ordered the pupuserias with meat/cheese and zucchini/cheese - both equally delicious. The cheese oozes out when you take a bite, making it a comforting dish. The beef plate is basically a steak that comes with gravy, salad, and rice - wasn't the greatest, although the priciest. (I personally wouldn't have ordered it anyways!). The horchata on the other hand is amazing. I could keep on drinking it and I would order it again for sure. It ended up being quite pricey for a 'casual' breakfast partially because the beef platter costs around $16 and the small things added up. Now that I know what to order/what not to order, I am excited for my next visit :)

Pupusas are the national dish of El Salvador. This restuarant is located on the first floor of a home and has limited seating with 4-5 tables. I really like the pupusas, and would recommend the cheese and pork filling. Make sure you put the pickled vegetables and sauce when you eat it. The quesadias were also crunchy and tasty. I also got the beef and rice, but the beef or steak came over cooked and the knife provided at the restarurant forced me to saw through the meat. If I come here again, I wouls definitely stick to the pupusas.

    The atmosphere

Great food and great service! Recommend the enchiladas. They put on some sweet love songs because me and my partner were sharing a meal right next to the speaker. Food was FAST and tasty. Wasn't a big fan of the tacos, a bit watery but still delicious. Pupusas were great, but eat slow! They arrive hot.

So yummy and such great prices. I don't live in this area of town but it's worth the 20 mins drive to get to it. Can't be beat!

Since I had never been before I wanted to get the combination plate. I opted for a pupusa, 2 tacos, and an enchilada. For each, I just asked for whichever filling/meat was most popular and what the restaurant would recommend which was the pork. The tacos have two options for topping and I went for #1 which was lettuce, pico de gallo, cilantro, sour cream, and avocado (a thin guacamole rather than pieces). The tacos were good. They looked even better. They came with 2 tortillas each so it was sturdy enough to hold the fillings. The pupusa was nice but not my favourite. I ended up dipping it in the hot salsa and it was nicer. My absolute favourite was the enchilada. It was not what you would expect of a Mexican enchilada, but is instead a Salvadoran enchilada which is very similar to a tostada. That was great! Overall, the food was good. I'd love to return to dine in person because I think it would be amazing in person. Usually takeout is never the same. Hopefully once the lockdown ends I can return and have an even better experience!

Pork tenderloin was pretty tasty but tough & dry especially for a tenderloin. Rice was decent, with a slight flavour, but a bit mushy. Plantain was crispy. The restaurant interior was decorated quite nicely but was very warm (in summer) & service was disorganised & some servers didn't speak English well so communication was sometimes difficult. All the staff are so friendly - from the waitstaff to the chefs / owners and kitchen staff, everyone in the restaurant seems to exhibit the Latin American hospitality and friendliness. The place feels homey, cozy, and festive with the music in the background (from the TV screen on the wall), and big photos depicting different places in Colombia along the wall. Ambience is very laid-back and casual, with amazing food that tastes homemade and authentic. It took a while for the food to cook and come out (about 40 minutes) - mostly because of the Cazuela de Mariscos (seafood soup) that took the longest to cook. It was also during a very busy time on a weekend. They seemed to have a constant flow of incoming catering and take-out orders (a good sign), and the restaurant itself was packed. All / most mains come with coconut rice, salad, and tostones (fried plantains). As for drinks, you can order freshly squeezed juices in either water or milk. We ordered the fresh strawberry & blackberry juice in water, as the one in milk would make it more like a smoothie. Each juice order comes in a jug (whether it be a small or large jug). This came as a surprise to us - really good value for such a large volume of juice ($6 for a whole "small" jug that turned out to be quite big, enough to refill each glass a few times for 2 people). The juice itself tasted fresh, natural, and refreshing. Dishes that we tried: 1) Filete de Tilapia con Camarones (grilled tilapia fish fillet & shrimps with coconut rice, plantain, and salad) - Big pieces of fish and lots of small shrimps, in a very delectable sauce. 2) Arroz Marinero (seafood rice with plantain & salad) - Loved this dish. The rice was a bit soupy which I liked. It was a bit like a soupy paella (including the rice) - very delicious and packed with various kinds of seafood. 3) Cazuela de Mariscos (seafood soup with coconut rice, plantain, and salad) - Very creamy soup, like a chowder. I'm not a big fan of chowders / cream-based soups in general, but others liked it and said this was good. 4) SIDE: Ensalada (House Salad) 5) Arepa de Chocolo con Queso (sweet corn dough with cheese) All of the main dishes were EXCELLENT - loved the mixed seafood (fish fillet, shrimps, octopus, squid, etc.). There was so much seafood in every dish. In most places, you get more carbs / rice compared to the protein. Here, it was the opposite. The coconut rice was a bit dry but it's decent - good to soak up the sauces of the main dishes. The salad is just shredded cabbage and carrot with big sliced tomato. I was a big fan of the salad dressing (some creamy mayo-like dressing), but luckily the dressing was only at the top of the salad (the bottom part of the salad remained fresh and crunchy, which I liked). We ordered the Arepa de Chocolo con Queso for to go. It was different than the Venezuelan arepa that I'm used to. The Colombian arepa seemed to be sweeter and more buttery. It probably would've been better if it was eaten right after it was freshly made, and while it was still warm. There was a lot of cheese in the arepa, giving it a nice salty and savoury contrast to the sweet corn dough. After you're done the meal, you go up to the counter to pay (instead of having the bill brought to your table). Great food overall - I would not hesitate to come back.

The texture of the crunchy green plantain slices went really well with the soft avocado, salad, and beans mixture inside, with a delicious sauce. The Ensalada (salad) came in a very large portion and consisted of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, bell pepper, and avocado. Sancocho de Pescado (traditional & hearty Colombian soup made of fish, root vegetables, and tubers - including cassava / yuca, potatoes, plantains, corn on the cob; seasoned with cumin and cilantro) had a very flavourful soup broth that tasted like comfort food. It was served with rice, toasted arepa, and avocado. It had a good amount of meaty fish and various types of root vegetables that had been cooked really well (so they were all soft) and absorbed the rich flavour from the soup broth. Arroz con Camarones (seasoned rice with shrimps, vegetables, salad, green plantains) was my favourite - very flavourful rice with lots of big, tender shrimps.

Yeah...I know...tough life! This little store front is easy to find and had a couple of parking spots right in front of it. Upon entering the shop, you know it's a family run place trying to be something to everyone. That is plain to see in their menu. It has Mediterranean, Greek, mid-east, Latin American, and American food items pasted on various flyers and menus. I opted for the gyros and a salad...to go...maybe a mistake. The gyros was standard fare - probably the same meat on a spit as the Mr.Greek's of the world. So was the salad and dressing. Not complaining - I kind of like Mr. Greek's. OK...OK...you Greek Food Snobs, it's not be authentic...I know!!! Please no hate messages! My mistake wasn't because it wasn't "REAL" Greek food, it was the take out aspect. By the time I got back, the pita was soaked with tzatziki - really should ask for it on the side. Hard to eat but it was tasty! I know it's off the beaten path but the place is kind of worth dropping in - if you want something different. Cheers.

It is a new establishment and we are always happy for new business' to open up in the area, especially restaurants. On the first visit, we tried the gyro and chicken souvlaki on a pita. I must say, the gyro itself was delicious that visit and the chicken souvlaki was on the okay, but the pita was on the tough side. The yogurt sauce needed a kick of garlic and the filling itself, needed more onions. It just lacked flavour for the most part. Decided to give it another try a week later. This time had papusas, gyro souvlaki dinner, calamari and chicken fingers with fries. This time around, it was definitely a bust, sad to say. The papusas were definitely not freshly made to order. It was dense, oily and I just did not have that experience that I was eating an authentic papusa and I have had many in the past from several restaurants and homemade by my El Salvadorian's friend's mom. The pickled cabbage that traditionally comes with papusas were good though! As for the gyro souvlaki dinner, the portion was very small for its price point which is almost $14. The gyro was too salty that day, salad was just a small handful, but the rice was tasty but not on the generous side. The calamari was soggy and the chicken fingers and fries were definitely just store bought which is fine I guess. If improvements are made, then maybe my family and I will give it another chance in the near future. Just as an added note, on both visits, the place wasn't at all busy, as we avoid the lunch and dinner crowd.
