Delicious spinach and cheese. This was so good!
    Geraldine G.

This is an Uber cute little spot in Kensington market. Small and packed with alot of food to go. I had a delicious alfahores. It's cookie with this sweet, luscious Dulce de leche in between. This was one of my favourite things. I had the spinach and cheese empanada. I remember reading someone had not enjoyed this but I thoroughly did. Flavourful is how I would put it I also had their tamales made with chicken. It's not bad but I can say out the items I purchased this was just not as good as the other two. I can say is definitely go back to this little spot

This cute little restaurant is serving up big flavor with their tamales. I sat down for a pork tamal, heated up and served with a pico de gallo-like accompaniment, and ate up in no time. The masa was moist and firm and full of flavor, the chunks of pork were large and tender, and all was served in a banana leaf. I love a good tamal, and even though the shop is very small, there's a ton of sweet and savory items coming out of this beautiful kitchen.

All stocked up. I grabbed two tamales. One chkn and one pork.

One of the best restaurants ever! Sometimes, I've seen it busy, hesitated just a moment, then headed right across the street to Thirsty and Miserable to enjoy a fresh IPA (like nothing else) while keeping an eye on Latin Taste for my chance to shine. All you gotta do is say "Ola" upon arriving and you will get the rock star treatment, I know I do. It's the kind of place where it helps to befriend the chef so they will take care of you. And man, she sure does it! You can ask about what's happening in the tiny kitchen and get some surprise meal that never knew was your passion. Menu varies by the weekday. I've gone there and had the plastic table pulled out and food plopped down without much waiting and had a fantastic meal! This is not a cheap snack bar, but instead serves quality, hand-made food that can't be replicated by teaching some lackey the moves and then leave them to run your restaurant. Instead there is excellent Peruvian food created by a dedicated family team. Their snacks to go are another excellent option. Love their spicy beef empanadas, so yummy! The other item I love to take home with me are their tamales! So gooooooood! Available in a few varieties, I've tried almost all of them, wrapped with a coloured bow to indicate what variety it is. They are an excellent lunch meal, taking about 2-1/2 minutes in the microwave. Wrapped in a leaf, it's a colourful and wonderful food, made the old-fashioned way by hand, by a South American chef and will put your co-workers mass-produced, and tasteless, over-salted Subway sandwich to shame.

Walked around Kensington and came across this small Latin shop. They had a lot of different kind of empanadas so we decided to try their spinach and cheese. Not my cup of tea but the husband said it was really good. Will probably try a different flavour next time.

Feeling snacky in the market? You've found your spot! Latin Taste is a tight little shop on Baldwin Street with some beautiful counters of food. I came in recently, just a little peckish, and I ordered up a chicken and jalapeno empanada. That savoury little pocket of goodness was just what I needed to get through the hard times. Perfect size with the perfect amount of spice. It came simply, in a white paper bag. Again I use the word "perfect", but it was a perfect handheld piece of food. Thank you.

This is a great little place to get a cheap snack if you're walking around in Kensington market. They have a couple little chairs and tables outside. Not good for a group. Friendly service. Great and tasty empanadas .

    Awesome chicken empanadas

Literally a hole in the wall, but this Latin quick service counter is worth the visit to Kensington market. Must try the chicken empanadas and make sure you get dozen to share with your friends, if you don't have any friends, you will, if you share with some strangers. There were other menu items but I did not try anything else, but based on the 2 lovely ladies behind the counter providing a friendly and authentic experience, I will be back to try everything.

Fantastic alfajor and spinach empanada in the background.

Randomly stumbled upon this small place while exploring Kensington Market. Had a pretty good spinach empanada (quite a few other flavors were available, too) but the ALFAJORES were TO DIE FOR! Yummy goodness! Dough just as crumbly as it should be and dulce de leche just as gooey as I remember from down south. There were two types available - we had the one with coconut (photo uploaded). At just $2 a piece, these alfajores were a fantastic find. I'll definitely stop by here again next time I'm in Toronto. The place is closed Sundays and Mondays. There is a table and 2 chairs inside, but you can easily eat this stuff on the go, as well. In addition to empanadas and amazing alfajores, the ladies here also sell tamales, tortas / pies, sandwiches, and more.

    nice churros!
    Alina M.

Came by here on a cold Friday afternoon and tried their churros! Amazing and very fresh! The ladies who work here are so polite and nice. They do only have 3 seats though, and the actual shop is tiny, so it's definitely better to walk around and eat at the same time!

This location was a lot busier and more packed compared to its suburban sister restaurant, and it was for a good reason - the food and service here were outstanding. Everything was delicious, and portion sizes were quite big. Reservation is recommended, especially on weekends, since they can get super busy. The place had an energetic ambiance as all the servers seemed to be always on the go, yet they were able to maintain an organized flow and excellent & friendly service. The outside patio was half covered, half wasn't. The inside had a somewhat open-concept kitchen. We were able to customize some of our orders to make everything non-spicy, and also got to customize the side sautéed vegetables to be just boiled / plain vegetables without the sauce (I remember them being very salty the first time we got them in the Burlington location) - so bonus points for that. Soon we could see why this place was always packed: great authentic Peruvian food (hard to come by in downtown with all the fusion twists), nice and attentive service, and the dishes came out relatively fast. Everything that we ordered was satisfyingly tasty: 1) Quatro Causas (Yukon gold mashed potato "cubes" topped with tuna, shrimps, octopus, aji amarillo, and lime juice) - Causa is a very classic cold Peruvian layered potato dish made with seasoned mashed yellow potatoes, yellow pepper paste, and a savory filling. Here at El Inka, they took a creative spin to the traditional causas by making them into 4 small cubes, each one topped with a different protein filling and sauce. Very pretty to eat. 2) Pulpo a la Parrilla (grilled octopus with asparagus, purple potatoes, radish, choclo, aji panca, chimichurri, and huancaina) - One of my favourite appetizer dishes here. I could taste the char / grill taste of the octopus - very tender without being rubbery, and I loved everything that it came with (the asparagus, purple potatoes, radish, and choclo). The huancaina (creamy, spicy yellow cheese sauce from Peru) gave it a bit of a kick, but it wasn't overly spicy. 3) Choros a la Chalaca (6 New Zealand mussels with red onion, tomatoes, cilantro, choclo, aji amarillo, and lime juice) - These were alright - the veggie toppings gave the mussels a nice and refreshing taste. 4) Ensalada El Inka (spring mix leafy greens, cucumber, tomato slices, red onion, avocado, and hemp seeds with avocado dressing) - Simple and a good accompaniment to all the other dishes. 5) Pescado Ceviche (tilapia, lime juice, cilantro, red onion, sweet potato, choclo) - Out of all the ceviche varieties out there, I like Peruvian-style ceviche the best because it always comes with sweet potato and choclo. Portion size of all the ceviches here was big - good for sharing. 6) Vegano Ceviche (broccoli, cauliflower, red onion, cucumber, red peppers, edamame, avocado, sweet potato, choclo) - I ordered this one because I was curious (never encountered a "vegan" ceviche before), and I just wanted extra broccoli and cauliflower. But there was more avocado here than the broccoli and cauliflower (only a few pieces). They must've used a whole avocado, sliced. The sweet potato that it came with added a nice sweetness contrast to the vinegar-y / more acidic rest of the dish. 7) Arroz Con Mariscos (Peruvian-style paella with octopus, calamari, shrimps, mussels, green peas, carrots, red onion, cilantro, aji amarillo) - This was favourite main dish at El Inka. Out of all the "Arroz Con Mariscos" dishes that I've tried at numerous Latin American restaurants everywhere, this was 'up there'. The rice was flavourful, the sauce was perfect (in amount and taste), and all the seafood varieties blended well together with the rice, creating a concoction of full deliciousness in your mouth. 8) Side Sautéed Vegetables - We were able to request customization of this to be without the sauce (just plain boiled or sautéed), yet they were able to make them still somewhat flavourful and still tasted fresh & crisp. This quickly became my favourite side dish. I liked that almost every dish came with some form of vegetables (even if they were just a bit of leafy greens, diced tomatoes / bell peppers, or red onion), and that choclo (Peruvian large-kernel corn) was present in every dish.

The sweet potatoes surprisingly worked well though) - Parihuela (not as well-rounded as a French bouillabaisse, but still delicious with a variety of seafood) - Chicha Morada (delicious purple corn drink) Portions were pretty large, so I'd recommend ordering family style to try a few different dishes. Food was not a 5/5 for me, but service was above and beyond. Upon arrival, we had given the staff a cake to serve after our meal for a friend's birthday. We had the candles in our bag, and were planning on pulling them out when we were done our entrees. The owner, assuming that we hadn't brought our own candles, went out and bought candles for the cake during our meal. We were stunned when we found out! They then portioned out the cake perfectly after we sang happy birthday. We also didn't realise we had stayed 30 minutes past their 9pm closing time, and they never nudged us to leave. It seemed like it was the owner and his father running the restaurant, and I felt very well taken care of. I'm already looking forward to returning to Pisac in the near future.
