Your standard Chinese seafood restaurant located in Richmond Hill at Bayview and Weldrick. Space is not huge and the interior looks like it's been renovated with seafood tanks lining two walls but the dishes on the tables look older. They have some good combo dinner specials starting at 148 and up. They come with one main item and then you can choose additional dishes from the list. We went with the one that came with a steamed green bass and we then we chose 4 additional dishes from the list. You can add a Peking Duck for an additional 19.99 if you spend a minimum of 49.90. The special is available all week including weekends and is only available for dine in and dinner. In general the dishes were well prepared. The duck was sliced well and the crepes were nice and thin. The remainder meat and bones were cut really well, usually you just get a mass of bones with bits of meat attached but our plate was well presented. Only real complaint was the rice. We ordered 2 bowls to share and it was dry and hard. They clearly did not add enough water for the cooking process. Service was decent with a plate change mid meal. Nothing outstanding but also not the worst.

We visited a Chinese and seafood restaurant recently for lunch, and tried their roasted duck set along with some dim sum. The restaurant currently offers a 20% discount on dim sum, which is a great deal. The roasted duck was tasty, and they sliced the duck in front of you, which is great. but I found that it came with too few side dishes. If you wanted to add more sides, you'd have to pay extra, which felt a bit limiting. Despite that, the meal was enjoyable, and the dim sum was fresh and flavorful. Overall, I'd give the experience a solid 4 out of 5. It was a good meal, but the extra charges for adding side dishes did hold it back slightly. Still, definitely worth visiting, especially for those dim sum discounts!

Great deal on Peking duck! Purchase $49 or more of food and you can get a Peking duck dish for $20. Definitely worth it!

Service was impeccable! The servers were very attentive. The ambience was nice. Bright restaurant in which they had pride in. Clean. Spacious. The food was hit and miss in different dishes. Hot & sour soup was delicious! Fried rice was okay....missing some love I think. Peking duck hit the spot because I was craving it! The most disappointing part was the roast pork and jellyfish dish. Jellyfish was watery. Pork needed flavour. Tasted very bland and herbally....weird flavour. Definitely going back for duck though!

Peking duck. (Quite the deal at $19.99 special)

I just saw this health review the exact same day we dined here GROSS PLEASE READ AND AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS https://www.newmarkettoday.ca/local-news/richmond-hill-chinese-restaurant-charged-for-pest-prevention-contamination-issues-11531505 DISREGARD REVIEW BELOW 1 star only GROSSNESS, I'm going to PUKE I'm going to go right in the middle for this place at 3 star rating. First off they have a promo for a $19.99 Peking duck that brought me into this place. And The Peking duck was the star of the show. It had crispy skin and very juicy and flavourful meat. For $19.99, it was well worth it and I would have paid $60-$80 for the quality. Unfortunately, the other 3 dishes majorly disappointed. 1. Black pepper beef 2. Sweet and sour pork 3. Seafood and tofu pot First the black pepper beef, although it had a nice flavour, the beef was horrendous and had the quality of AYCE sushi buffet beef. Which is despicable. And for $38 was way overpriced Second, the sweet and sour pork was passable but barely and for just $22 was doable Lastly, the seafood and tofu hotpot was horrendous. It had a gross fishy taste and smell and for another whopping $38. It too was savagely overpriced. All in all they offer the special Peking duck at $19.99 but gouge you on the other dishes. I wouldn't mind if the other dishes were up to par in quality and flavours But They don't. I will still give 3 stars as again the Peking duck was top notch. But The other dishes were borderline gross Therefore I won't be returning and a recommendation?? Try if you want just avoid the 3 dishes described above and definitely get the Peking duck special at $19.99.

Booked their largest private room for a party of 30+ people and the experience was amazing! I went to check out their space in advance to make sure it was big enough/ what I wanted. Their private room has a karaoke that you can request for and it fit three large tables with a smaller table of the side for them to put their plates/ utensils/ cake, etc. Service was also great, with the servers being very on top of all things! Now onto the food. It was absolutely amazing! I ordered a set menu per table in advance and paid a deposit and the food did not disappoint at all. It's your traditional Chinese coursed meals that comes with lobster, suckling pig, crab, fish, chicken, rice and veggies. Some highlights: Abalone mushroom snow peas 5/5 - Perfect sauce that went with the ingredients. The abalone was chewy and cooked perfectly. You're able to add additional abalone so each person gets one (since I had more than ten people per table) Suckling pig 5/5 - Crispy, tender and delicious. This is a pre order item for sure, since they need to allocate for this. Double lobster 5/5 - Came in a huge mountain of lobster per table. Meaty and fried to perfection. Duck 5/5 - This was an added item I chose for per table. It had a crispy skin and meaty, juicy interior. A must get! Also had to order this in advance when I paid the deposit. Double crab 5/5 - Steamed and delicious. Cooked perfectly with the meat being super delicious and clean. Sea bass 5/5 - No complaints here. So good! Lobster fried rice 5/5 - An amazing finisher with each rice being the perfect texture. Fried chicken 5/5 - Crispy skin, juicy meat. Delicious dipped in their salt pepper mixture. Their in house dessert was the traditional red bean soup, but found out after that they also had mango sago which they didn't offer (only to a couple of people). They allow you to bring a cake too if you'd like and they help you serve it as well. You can also bring your own alcohol, they just have a corkage fee per bottle. The end felt a bit rushed as we were the last ones left in the restaurant, but we didn't know since we were tucked away in our private room. Regardless, it was an amazing time with amazing food. Can't wait to go back for large parties and have this set menu again!

Thursday, 11-30-2023. Incredible Peking duck price for their Thursday daily special. $28.80 CAD or $21.18 USD!!
Howard L.

We had an enjoyable and comfortable dinner as far as the food. They have a bright, spacious, and elegant dining room though it may be getting a little dated as many of the chairs had little fabric tears on the seats. It was a Thursday and they had an exceptionally great value Thursday special of a 2 course Peking duck for just $28.80 CAD or $21.18 USD. They also had an ongoing promo of 15% off cash special, which we also opted for. We ordered: - 2 course Peking duck - Seafood casserole - Black bean bitter melon beef - Lotus roots with mushrooms and string beans The dishes were all large and generous. As with the Peking duck, the seafood casserole was very good. The Peking duck was served with pancakes rather than buns. The black bean bitter melon beef was just average though. The dinner also came with complimentary red bean dessert soup. There was a mandatory 12% tip and the all-in bill was $139.14 CAD or $102.31 USD, a great value. By the way, it's cash only here and though we were ok with it, it is unusual to not have a non-cash option given their price point. It's a good thing for our Chinese server lady that the tip was mandatory as she was a real Debbie Downer. She never cracked a smile, said hello or goodbye, and huffed a bit when we didn't order immediately upon sitting down. She was the worst server of our 3 day trip. We left $140 CAD cash but did discuss whether we should make her bring back $0.86 CAD in change but we're not quite that mean (but I would have enjoyed getting a reaction lol). Overall, I'll go with 3.51 stars rounded up to 4 for this outing and the rating was saved mainly by that stupendous Peking duck special.

Lobster, suckling pig and fish meal
Cynthia Y.

We came here for dinner as a party of 6 and ordered the lobster, suckling pig and fish dinner. What we liked: We added the Peking duck daily special which is a decent deal for $28.8 on Thursdays. $15 extra to change the duck-2 ways to lettuce wrap with diced duck meat stir fry. Food quality is decent, food portion is reasonable. Ambiance is nice. I also liked the dessert which is a mango sago pomelo soup (楊枝甘露)with cookies。 What we didn't like: there was a lot of forgetful moments where you have to chase down servers (no where to be found) to deliver parts of your meal. This happened to two of our dishes. They delivered sliced Peking duck without wraps, and also forgot the snow pea leaves dish until we asked when we are done our dinner. We also had a questionable request by the restaurant to swap out a dish. Weird that they were out of suckling pig for a suckling pig meal by 715pm. Rather than proposing something of equivalent value, they provided half a soy chicken instead. We didn't want extra effort and accepted. Little did I know, another friend recently went here and also had the dish swap for less value and the forgetting of dishes until customer chased them. I don't know what to think of this - is this a practice or a coincidence?

Upscale Cantonese Cuisine in Markham Parking: Ample parking in the Village Gate Plaza Ambience: Quaint upscale/luxury Chinese restaurant, good environment and the overall vibe is very elegant. Service: Immediately greeted by the restaurant staff, was sat down promptly and we ordered fairly quickly. Food: Chicken and Pork Pepper Soup Very peppery, hearty, creamy and rich. Dipping sauces provided are a spicy soy sauce and a ginger scallion sauce. Very flavourful Rating: 4/5 Sweet & Sour Pork Typical sweet and sour pork, good balance of flavours. Was not too breaded and lots of chunks of pork in the dish. Rating: 4/5 Broccoli & Chinese Sausage Was OK, lacking flavour a little and the broccoli was a bit over cooked. The Chinese sausage was a mix of regular Chinese sausage and innard sausage. This dish was lacking in that lil sumthin sumthin. Rating: 3/5 Assorted Seafood Stonepot with bok choy/tofu Scallops, shrimp, tofu, bok choy cooked together in a stone pot. Lacked salt, I wouldn't say it was tasty or but palatable. Rating: 3/5 Mango sago Not overly sweet, cold and had a decent flavour. Thrown in with our meal but it was a good end to our dinner. Rating: 3/5 Overall an OK experience, the best dish was the chicken and pork soup. Hearty and heartwarming and makes you feel all fuzzy inside. Rating: 3/5

Bean curd shrimp rice roll

I came here on a Saturday morning and there was no line up for a table. The food is pretty good but some dishes were bland. They could use a tad more salt. The angus beef stir fry rice noodle was my favourite out of all the things we ordered, but it's a bit on the pricier side ($25). Our bill came to $150 for five people, and tips is automatically added to the bill. The service was quick and the staff were generally pretty polite. Not a bad experience but not a top pick for dim sum.

Steamed black bean spareribs on rice, steamed beef balls, bbq pork pastry puffs and steamed shrimp pork dumplings (siu mai)
Lim T.

Ordered a dim sum lunch using Uber Eats last week from here. The dishes are a bit pricey but I was surprise that they didn't mark up the prices on Uber Eats. I liked that their dim sum menu included the steamed meat on rice. It was a serving for two for only $10. We got the steamed black bean spare ribs on rice and it was so flavourful and the meat was so fresh. The other dishes were also well prepared which included the steamed shrimp pork (siu mai), bbq pork pastry puffs and steamed beef balls. It was a bit of a treat to order out for lunch on the weekday so the meal felt extra special! Overall, we were very pleased with the food and will definitely be ordering again!

Don't let the exterior deceive you. It's not as big as you think, since half the restaurant is VIP room (which had nobody on the day of my visit). Food was palpable, but I don't think it justifies the cost which is on the steep side in that area. Peking duck was presented nicely. However, the wrapping was far too thin and leaked once I added the sweet plum sauce. Do note that 12% service charge is automatically added to your bill.

Good service High quality food Nice interior, recently renovated Free parking in the plaza Peking duck is crazy good here There's currently a Peking duck special for $19.99! I tried it recently and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the duck as well as the quality. Skin was nice and crispy, not overly fatty, and a good amount of meat. It's a must try here. I think the Peking duck deal is only from Monday to Friday so be sure to check before you go. All the other dishes I tried were also amazing. Check out my pictures. There's egg and fish maw, beef cubes with snow peas shoots, and a crispy vermicelli with chicken slices. All delicious!

After watching a blogTO post I had to get a taste of this restaurants dimsum menu! I got the cheung fun with bbq pork, cheung fun with shrimp & yellow chives, beef short ribs, crispy fried shrimp dumplings with foie gras and scallop dumplings with black truffle. All delicious!! I especially loved the crispy fried shrimp dumplings, one of my favorites! Definitely visit and try the menu. I will back!!!

The steamed fish was also delicious. I enjoyed the complementary dessert which included sweet red bean porridge, cookies, and jelly. For dim sum, definitely DO NOT purchase the rice noodle in supreme fish soup and mushroom. It tasted like water cooked with mushroom and had no taste or fish flavor and a waste of money. The mango sago wasn't that good either and only came with a tiny bit of ice cream. Dim sum was pretty crowded, so would recommend booking a table for large groups. I enjoyed the abalone and chicken congee as well as the mustard green, clam, and preserved egg congee. The abalone on the abalone su mai was a bit overcooked and chewy since it's been heated too long. I liked the chicken feet, beef tendons, and ribs. The egg tart was delicious when warm and super soft on the inside.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

One thing that wasn't good was they had a wedding in the main area and they were incredibly loud. Should close all the doors to muffle the sound but they didn't. Peking duck was fantastic. Nicely cooked duck, crispy skin, very thin wraps. It comes with onions and cantaloupe. Cantaloupe was a first for me and I didn't like it. Lobster was cooked with garlic and green onions. Delicious. However they only gave us the pieces with a lot of meat and the lesser meat pieces were nowhere to be found. Didn't like that as we would still want to eat it. Snow pea leaves with garlic was a good portion. A touch undercooked though. Pigeons were delicious and large. Great flavour. Sirloin stir fried beef cubes was also quite nice. It's a popular spot located in Markham where tons of people enjoy coming here for dim sum and for dinner. Once we were seated, we got the ordering sheet where you can check off all the items you want to order. We ordered a bunch of items: Deep Fried Octopus Tentacles, Deep Fried Shrimp Ball with Almond, Salt and Pepper Fish, Baiyun Phoenix Claws, E-Fu Noodles and the Ginger Scallion Beef Tripe. Most of the items were very well made. Not too salty and quite flavourful. You can taste MSG but it wouldn't be dim sum if you didn't taste it. Special mentions go to the Deep Fried Shrimp Ball with Almond because I love how it is coated with Almond Slices and it was not too oily. I also really liked the Deep Fried Octopus Tentacles since it was not battered like crazy and I loved the Salt and Pepper Fish. The E-Fu Noodles were a bit bland, but it might have been because everything else had more flavour to it. We originally ordered their duck, but since we came later in the day, it was sold out. I would recommend getting it when you visit. The customer service was not too bad. They had multiple servers walking around but you have to ask specific ones if you wanted to have more hot water for your tea or wanted to add an order. Standard customer service in a Chinese restaurant. I like the look of the restaurant since it is more of a banquet hall type with a bunch of tanks with fresh fish and assorted seafood. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon and the place itself isn't very spacious compared to some of the banquet halls that other dimsum places are in. We waited around 30 minutes and was able to get a table for 5. This place has some quirks. You have to pay extra if you want a teapot ($5.99), but there's a self service station to help yourself to hot tea or water, and sauces. The menu is pretty extensive, even having some interesting dishes like matcha shrimp rolls (not good btw lol). Their shrimp & pork dumplings (siu mai) was pretty good despite what it looked like. The fact that everything was very steaming hot upon arrival is noteworthy. Prices aren't bad either, and if you come on a weekday, all dimsum dishes are $5.80 regardless of size. Tip: They have a membership offer - you purchase the membership for $100 but you also get $100 in store credit immediately. You'll also get 10% off, so it's definitely worth it, especially if your bill is over $100 already. The waitress recommended that we purchase it before paying our bill so we could get that 10% off too. When the bill arrived, there's an automatic service charge of 10% (surprisingly not 12-15% like most other places these days). I'm not usually in this area but I'd definitely return here if I am!

The pricing is quite similar if not the same as any other dim sum places in the area, but you do save on the infamous per person tea fee. Most if not all dim sum places will charge a "tea fee" for each adult in your party. So when you walk into dim sum you ask for a certain type of tea and you get charged $2.50 per head. At Asian queen they still have an upsell on the tea if you want but if you dont opt for anything you can get basic tea for free and save that fee. Also they have hot soy milk available for self serve too. In addition condiments (hot sauce, soy sauce etc) is also self serve. The dim sum is quite decent taste wise and they also have all your usual dim sum fare as well. This place is a bit more no frills then other fancy dim sum places. I believe this is the same owner as Yumi Legend.

Tried 紫蘭軒 Purple Orchid for the first time and unfortunately it wasn't really my forte…read more Considering it's a relatively new restaurant, I was a little surprised by how basic and older everything inside felt. It's definitely a very casual dining environment. The tables are actually chunky mahjong tables covered with disposable tablecloths, so don't come expecting much in terms of atmosphere. Service was pretty average as well. Some of our dishes took quite a while to come out, and after waiting for so long, we eventually ended up cancelling a few of the remaining dishes. The food itself was a bit of a mixed bag. Some dishes were alright, but overall there wasn't anything that really stood out or made us want to come back. One thing to be aware of is that they automatically add a 12% service charge to the bill before tax, on top of the tea charge that you already typically pay at dim sum restaurants. Personally, I'm not a fan of automatic service charges, especially when the service itself was just average. Not every restaurant is going to be everyone's cup of tea, but unfortunately this one just wasn't for us and I don't think we'd come back.
