    Pork and preserved egg congee
    Joy W.

Food 2.75/5 Service 3/5 Ambience 3/5 Lunched at this Chinese restaurant in Newmarket while we were in the area. The restaurant appears to be new as our food arrived before we received our spoons for the congee. Our friends ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice because there was a large poster about it and which she thought was a specialty at the restaurant. The chicken was just steamed chicken and she was so disappointed. We ordered a pork and preserved egg congee and the fried beef rice noodles. Very little pieces of pork and preserved egg in the congee which was also really bland. The beef in the beef noodles dish was really salty. I am amazed that a few of the reviews compared the food to Congee Queen. It has ways to go to be a comparable Congee Queen. I won't be returning to this restaurant if I am in Newmarket again. Plenty of parking right outside of the restaurant.

Food was great and prices were pretty decent. We ordered the fried flat noodle with beef in XO sauce, pumpkin with salted egg, Cantonese chow mein, popcorn chicken, and the house special fried rice. Everything tasted really good overall. The only thing I'd say is the fried rice was a bit too mushy I'm guessing they used fresh rice instead of day old rice, which usually works better for fried rice. Also, the menu showed basil with the popcorn chicken, but there wasn't any in the dish when it came out. Service was amazing though. Staff were super friendly and attentive, and the food came out at a nice steady pace, but not slow either. It didn't take too long. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. It's clear they're still working on renovations, with half painted walls and some areas unfinished, but you can tell it's a new spot and they're still getting things together. That said, I think they've got a lot of potential once everything is fully up and running.

Service 10/10 Food 7.5/10 Ambiance 8/10 I was surprised on how well they were composed considering the fact that it was a full house and newly opened. Usually new restaurants are a hot mess for a few weeks until they figure out their operation. The food came out exactly how it should at about 2-3 mins apart. It didn't come out suspiciously too fast nor painfully slow. The menu was comparable to a Congee Queen however I found the prices mire affordable. The staff were kind, thoughtful and polite. The space is still under construction in some place so be mindful of that Overall it was a great experience for the price and I'm happy that we have something like this in Newmarket

Went there twice now, once when it was first opened and it was horrible. Two of the four dishes were subpar and two were meh. I did not plan to go back, but recently (perhaps about half a year after the first visit) my friend wanted to try so I gave it another try. The server there said they changed the entire kitchen crew and that gave me hope... but not for long. We ordered two dishes , tripe noodles and pork knuckle noodles. The server came back minutes later and said they are sold out of the tripe noodle... so I had to switch to noodles with beef slices. when the food arrived , my friend's order was messed up and got beef brisket instead. We insisted to get the pork knuckles and so overall wait time was close to 40 mins for our food. Quality of the food was average, I highly doubt I would come back, definitely not dine-in, maybe will try their dinner combos one day as the price is pretty decent ($58 for 4 dishes with rice ).

Nice family owned restaurant - similar feel and portions to Congee Queen. They serviced complimentary soup while we were ordering & free red bean dessert at the end of the meal. Food was good but nothing outstanding. We did order a fish dish that was on the menu but was told it actually was not available which was disappointing. Would not recommend the lemon chicken dish - too much batter and not enough chicken. Stir fried noodles and vegetables were otherwise really good! Great new spot that we would probably frequent again since it is much closer than going down to Markham if you are craving chinese!

Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. We started with the oysters, crudo, charred avocado, charbroiled Moroccan octopus, hot pull-and-tear bread, and the deep-fried Brussels sprouts. Every dish was packed with incredible flavour, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. For our entrées, we had the Branzino and the Dukkah Roasted Lamb Sirloin with yam chips, and both were cooked to perfection. To complement our meal, we enjoyed two bottles of Bojador wine, which paired beautifully with our entrées and elevated the entire dining experience. We couldn't leave without dessert. The Portuguese tarts served with gelato were absolutely delicious--warm, flaky, and the perfect balance of sweetness. We also had the crème brûlée, which had a perfectly crisp caramelized top with a rich, creamy custard underneath. It was the perfect way to end an incredible meal. A huge thank you to Sarah and Jeff, who made both visits so memorable. They were warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made us feel like valued guests. Their exceptional service was just as impressive as the food. It's rare to leave a restaurant and immediately want to come back the very same day, but Fishbone Aurora absolutely earned it. Whether you're looking for a place for a business meeting, a date night, or a family dinner, I can't recommend it enough. We'll definitely be back!

The restaurant is brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight, the decor is a mix of elegance and rustic at the same time. It's got an open and inviting feel. Our server was fantastic - very patient with a large group like ours, able to tell us right off the bat what is and is not customizable, recommendations of when to order to ensure flow works out. Food: Charbroiled octopus - one of my favorite dishes I tried - perfectly cooked, has a nice char, good meaty bits but not chewy, has a really nice chili oil on it. I can not stress how much I recommend getting this if you enjoy seafood. 5/5. Chorizo appetizer - comes out in a little pig plate with an open flame underneath. The chorizo itself is good with a nice spice, dense meat. The best part of this dish (IMO) is the spiced apple sauce on the side that cuts the richness of the sausage with a sweet and tangy apple and a little spice kick. 4.5/5. Bread - fresh baked bread with butter, a pumpkin jam and cheese. Everything on that plate works so well together. I definitely recommend this as an all rounding pleasing appetizer - 5/5. Beets - the beets were fresh with a vibrant orange colour. The apple, walnut and goat cheese all work together. I do wish this dish had a bit more but it works. 4.5/5. Brussel sprouts - amazing deep fried brussel sprouts - makes me want to always deep fry them for life. The spicy harissa sauce works well with the sprouts. Crunchy peanuts on top add both a texture and nuttiness that is refreshing to the brussel sprouts. 5/5. Oysters - super fresh, absolutely delicious without any condiments needed. Loved them. 5/5. Paella - this is definitely large enough for 2 people to eat so consider sharing unless you have a monster appetite. As with all their plates, it is beautifully constructed. The shrimp are huge and meaty. Mussels are plentiful, lots of chorizo and bay scallops. The rice has that really nice briny seafood flavor from the broth. It was just a teeny tiny bit overly salty to my taste but it's cut with the dollops of sour cream. Has this really nice low level heat that just works without burning your mouth. 4.5/5. Lamb sirloin - great crust on the lamb and cook as well. Flavorful sear and crust on the lamb with a soft tender meaty interior. Can't go wrong with- 5/5. Branzino - delicious flaky and light with a great grill. If you're interested in a fresh fish, this is a good choice. Was a special on the menu - 5/5. Prices: Fine dining pricing but you get the excellent food, service and experience for the price.

But after so many times doing takeout it only happened once, so not bad at all. Halibut: 4.75/5 crispy and then soft inside. Yum. Never will peas taste that good. Chips: 5/5 Great chips! And excellent gravy to accompany. Onion rings: 4.5/5 Pretty good! Sometimes the batter is a little consistent but they are good overall. The batter wasn't too thick, greasy, or salty, and the fish filet was thick enough that it retained its structure when eating (instead of becoming a flaky mess). Chips were decent, but not the standout for me. Even their seniors portion size of fish & chips is quite filling. I also really enjoyed the seafood chowder, though it was on the saltier side. Shocked at how large the bowl of chowder was for the price, and they did not skimp out on the ingredients. No one wants a chowder that's 80% roux/cream base and 20% veggies with canned or frozen seafood mixed in. Be forewarned that finding parking on Main St Newmarket can be challenging during events and busier times/seasons!

Scallops & bacon were decent. Prime Rib Sandwich was pretty good with palpable cheese (sometimes you can't taste the cheese) & a crisp bun. The jus was decent. The side Caesar salad was pretty good with a strong garlic edge. Keg Burger was good with some char, a pretty moist patty & notably crisp pickles. The caramelized onions & cheese were good too. So I'm struggling on an updated score here because last year, when I held my bday here it was…read morefantastic from start to finish, with ZERO ISSUE when it came to being seated. However, this year ... was a diff story. I made my bday reservation at this place again and was able to secure a res for ~17 ppl (I even updated the hostess with some calls as the # of guests fluctuated slightly). They were very accommodating although they didn't have any spots open for 6:30 or 7 pm which would've been ideal (it was either 5 pm or 8 pm). My entire party arrived 15-20 min early for our 8 pm scheduled res and as I (obviously) expected, the resto was absolutely packed out the wazoo around the front entrance. I quickly walked up to the reception and gave one of the hostesses my name, party size and # of guests. She told me it would be a 10-15 min wait as they finished preparing our table and gave me a buzzer to hang onto. After 20 min, I walked up to the front desk again where they proceeded to tell me that the table wasn't ready yet.... ok, we'll be patient but it's past our res time. Another 20 mins pass and I'm inquiring again at which point I think it was either the owner or manager comes out and tells us that the tables ready but the guests at the table aren't leaving. So then I'm a little annoyed and after ANOTHER 20 mins pass I ask again at which point the manager finally moves the guests occupying our table. For a total of 1 hour wait time past our allotted res, I would have to agree with reviewer, Bert F that the reservations should be honoured lol. Ok. Now that I've talked about that. They DID redeem themselves somewhat in my eyes. A BUNCH of appetizers for our group (I think 6 in total) on the house. There was a mom and dad in my party with a young child and she was SOOOO CRANKY because we were seated way past our dining time. Poor thing. Food was phenomenal still, as always. The Keg never disappoints on that front. Got my usual go-to order of the secret menu 24 oz prime rib, medium rare. Cooked perfectly, very juicy, very tender, very thick piece of meat. Twice baked potato was exquisite. Service was also pretty good for the night. Marcy and .... Sean I think his name was?? They almost forgot my complimentary billy miner pie slice but thankfully remembered before the bill arrived. I thought about dropping my rating down to 3 stars PURELY for the diabolical wait time but the food was still great, the service was good, still got my complimentary billy miner pie and we got free apps. Oh, and they also didn't rush us out of the resto when most of the dining tables had cleared out (actually the resto, in particular the bar was still pretty dang full still). We finished dining around midnight. So in light of all this, I only drop one star from my original 5 star review. Hopefully, next year if I do book here again we won't have to wait 1 hr past the scheduled res time.
