    Pork and preserved egg congee
    Joy W.

Food 2.75/5 Service 3/5 Ambience 3/5 Lunched at this Chinese restaurant in Newmarket while we were in the area. The restaurant appears to be new as our food arrived before we received our spoons for the congee. Our friends ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice because there was a large poster about it and which she thought was a specialty at the restaurant. The chicken was just steamed chicken and she was so disappointed. We ordered a pork and preserved egg congee and the fried beef rice noodles. Very little pieces of pork and preserved egg in the congee which was also really bland. The beef in the beef noodles dish was really salty. I am amazed that a few of the reviews compared the food to Congee Queen. It has ways to go to be a comparable Congee Queen. I won't be returning to this restaurant if I am in Newmarket again. Plenty of parking right outside of the restaurant.

Food was great and prices were pretty decent. We ordered the fried flat noodle with beef in XO sauce, pumpkin with salted egg, Cantonese chow mein, popcorn chicken, and the house special fried rice. Everything tasted really good overall. The only thing I'd say is the fried rice was a bit too mushy I'm guessing they used fresh rice instead of day old rice, which usually works better for fried rice. Also, the menu showed basil with the popcorn chicken, but there wasn't any in the dish when it came out. Service was amazing though. Staff were super friendly and attentive, and the food came out at a nice steady pace, but not slow either. It didn't take too long. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. It's clear they're still working on renovations, with half painted walls and some areas unfinished, but you can tell it's a new spot and they're still getting things together. That said, I think they've got a lot of potential once everything is fully up and running.

Service 10/10 Food 7.5/10 Ambiance 8/10 I was surprised on how well they were composed considering the fact that it was a full house and newly opened. Usually new restaurants are a hot mess for a few weeks until they figure out their operation. The food came out exactly how it should at about 2-3 mins apart. It didn't come out suspiciously too fast nor painfully slow. The menu was comparable to a Congee Queen however I found the prices mire affordable. The staff were kind, thoughtful and polite. The space is still under construction in some place so be mindful of that Overall it was a great experience for the price and I'm happy that we have something like this in Newmarket

Went there twice now, once when it was first opened and it was horrible. Two of the four dishes were subpar and two were meh. I did not plan to go back, but recently (perhaps about half a year after the first visit) my friend wanted to try so I gave it another try. The server there said they changed the entire kitchen crew and that gave me hope... but not for long. We ordered two dishes , tripe noodles and pork knuckle noodles. The server came back minutes later and said they are sold out of the tripe noodle... so I had to switch to noodles with beef slices. when the food arrived , my friend's order was messed up and got beef brisket instead. We insisted to get the pork knuckles and so overall wait time was close to 40 mins for our food. Quality of the food was average, I highly doubt I would come back, definitely not dine-in, maybe will try their dinner combos one day as the price is pretty decent ($58 for 4 dishes with rice ).

Nice family owned restaurant - similar feel and portions to Congee Queen. They serviced complimentary soup while we were ordering & free red bean dessert at the end of the meal. Food was good but nothing outstanding. We did order a fish dish that was on the menu but was told it actually was not available which was disappointing. Would not recommend the lemon chicken dish - too much batter and not enough chicken. Stir fried noodles and vegetables were otherwise really good! Great new spot that we would probably frequent again since it is much closer than going down to Markham if you are craving chinese!

It's basically carbonara pasta with bone marrow you scrape off from the bone. Sauce wasn't very flavourful and a bit too watered down. Still a good second visit.

I found it funny cause almost every item has the "favourite" symbol but everything tastes good! I love the decor inside. Lots of lights, florals and greenery. There is limited seating though since it gets busy - Maybe 10 tables of 4 on the outside perimeter and another 5 tables of 4 on the inside. We got the razor clams, 12 wings and beer special (after 8:30pm), smoked beet and pig ear salad, brisket and ribs and bun bo hue. The 12 wings and beer would have been such a good deal except the drink was pretty watered down. We brought it up to the waitress so hopefully they change that in the future. The wings were crispy,m and delicious. The razor clams tasted good too, but it only comes with 4. The smoked beet and pig eat salad was one of our favourites! Unique, flavourful and good crunchy textured. The brisket and ribs were another favourite. Tender and flavourful. The bun bo hue was good too. Service could have been better. One of the waiters wasn't that friendly. We still had a good time though and enjoyed the food. I would come back to try their other dishes.

My fav restaurant for #valentinesday…read more Baked Alaska is still my fav dessert ever, that passionfruit truly elevates the taste profile. I loved the duck confit eggs Benny! It was hearty and flavorful! The eggs were very runny and I used the English muffins and delicious garlic home fries to soak it all up! I'm most pleasantly surprised that we can order from the brunch menu at dinner. I didn't try the AAA steak but I was told that this was absolutely delicious and he wished it was a bigger portion. The rice underneath is a pilaf :) Service was standard. I mean, I don't come here for the service anyway. It's a slightly upscale atmosphere here, no sweatpants please!

The music is a bit loud and reminded me of club/lounge music, not a chill jazz relaxing brunch atmosphere. Service was slow and the kitchen even slower. When the hostess sat us at our reserved table, she brought up the 90 minute seating rule. Our food didn't come out until the hour mark, so come prepared for hungry or little ones. The Korean french toast has an amazing crunch on the outside and super moist and soft brioche inside. The four slices looked big but was very easy to demolish. PB & J Hamburger was interesting! That is definitely a brunchy sounding dish and it did not disappoint. It was a delicious, messy, goopy burger with so much flavour. Burrata arugula salad with long thin strips of prosciutto was very light. The fig wedges were sweet and this dish was a great starter without being too heavy. Biscoff Latte is always a pleaser; bit of a strange glassware choice for a hot beverage as it has no handles.

Everything was delicious!…read more The bone marrow was rich and flavorful yet hard to believe the warm milk bread was the star of the show (we even got some extra to-go). Who woudlve thought brocolli, strawberries and whipped feta was a wicked combination! Duck sliders were also a hit. Beautiful modern decor and excellent service. I've been wanting to try this spot for a while but never got around to it, so we decided to go…read moretoday. Overall, it's definitely on the pricier side. Personally, I felt like many of the dishes were elevated or fancier versions of Asian classics. The crab truffle chawanmushi was super creamy, with crab meat on top and truffle flavors. For $40...ya idk it wasn't anything crazy and I would have loved it with a bowl of rice (maybe that's me being too Chinese lol). But also I've seen other review of the chawanmushi and it seems like every time, the amount of crab on it is different. Mine didn't seem to have as much compared to the other pictures I have seen which just tell me that they have inconsistencies. It just felt like a lot to just be eating on its own. The mala cream udon was really tasty, I loved the creaminess, cheesiness, and the addition of Chinese pork and spices but it also felt like something that could be make at home. The tuna tataki came with only three pieces for $22, which felt quite small for the price. The flavors were good, but the portion was underwhelming. My favorite was probably the Basque cheesecake it had a rich, creamy texture with a slight hint of saltiness. The Korean fried chicken sliders were also great, the crispy chicken with a well-balanced sauce. For drinks, we got the Zazatar and Golden Pear, and both were really good. The Zazatar, in particular, was quite strong which I liked. While the food was enjoyable, it didn't quite feel worth the price. For this style of food, I think you could find similar options and flavors at a more reasonable price point elsewhere in Markham. Nothing of the dishes like blow me away which is why I'm saying this. The staff were very kind and attentive, which I appreciated. However, the timing of the dishes was a bit off. We received and finished the tuna, then the sliders came out, followed by the udon. Finished that and then we waited about 15-20 minutes before my main (the chawanmushi) arrived, which by that point my partner had already long finished eating. I understand that chawanmushi takes longer to prepare since it's steamed, but a heads-up or better coordination with the rest of the dishes would have been nice. Like severing the appetizers at the same time and serving the mains at the same time. Instead of having the dishes come out one by one and such a long wait between the mains. The space itself is beautiful, with an upscale vibe, great for catching up I don't regret trying it, but it's probably not somewhere I'd return to.
