We were here for dinner and the birthday of my father in law. We reserved the table for 4+1. We didn't wait for too long when we arrived. They only have high chair, but no booster seat. It was ok that kid could sit on a side of table, but just a bit dangerous when the hot dishes come. The staff were really careful about that. They have some winter specials that I like so much. The lamp hotpot was so tasty with a dish of veggie on the side. The deep fried pumpkin was really good. The pan fried Tiger shrimp was huge, and fish bowl wasn't fishy that we love it. Kid also enjoyed the shrimp wonton noodles and the lamp. The staff was so nice to care about the kid, even though we did a bit messy, they still really patient and helpful. The prices were reasonable and affordable to us. It's a good place for family and we definitely will come back again. read more

Shine's Kitchen has been my family's go to restaurant for an affordable and nice Chinese meal. We like to come during their afternoon tea between 2-5pm because they have a lot of affordable dishes that also come with a free drink. You can choose between Milk Tea, Red Bean Ice, and their HK Style lemon tea. You can also add a side dish for 4.88$! The best way to describe Shine's kitchen is a better and more affordable Congee Queen. the platter of shrimp only costed 8.99$ and was big and delicious. We also ordered a beef noodle scallion soup and lo mein. They were both decent but a bit bland. I added a bit soy sauce and chili oil to remedy that. Every time we come, we always end up having to take home leftovers because they are very generous with the portion sizes. The Cantonese Chow Mein costed only 17.99$ and came with a free drink! It's not the most amazing Cantonese food I've had but the value simply cannot be beat. The ambiance is quite spacious and comfortable. However, if coming for dinner, make sure you make a reservation because they are quite packed. Wait times can be over 30-45 minutes during dinner time. The washroom is downstairs and isn't exactly clean. The service is very dependent on the waitress serving your table. We've had both great experiences and bad ones as well. They do expect a minimum of 10% tip or they may make a comment about it. Overall, it's a great restaurant for Cantonese style cuisine and the prices are amazing! read more

This place has good food! They did the lobster efu noodles very good! You could really taste the wok hei. The beef tenderloin was very soft and flavorful. The tentacle was pretty good but could use more seasoning. They gave us the biggest table for 7 people so it was very spacious. Service was fast . Stumbled upon this hidden gem because of my mom * They sell classic chinese cuisine and have a huge menu, we got the lobster tower, sweet & sour chicken, turnip cakes, seafood noodles. The dinner was your average Chinese restaurant. Nothing exceptional or especially notable. The restaurant has several large tables and it was extremely loud. Servers are extremely busy and move around briskly but are responsive to one's requests. The second time we went for lunch at 2:00pm and we were seated in about 10 minutes at a shared table. The afternoon tea menu includes a hot or cold beverage. We opted for the cold red bean ice cream drink. The lunch menu is very reasonable with dishes starting at $10-$13 including the cold/hot beverage. Hot Chinese tea is also included. Cantonese cuisine and food itself is actually pretty good and there is a lot of variety. However, the servers are so busy running around it is hard to get a hold of them. Even after pressing the button of service no one shows up. Restaurant is really busy and loud. It is very difficult to talk even with the person beside you. Also don't know why they use disposable utensils to serve the food. They put a plastic takeout spoon in a claypot dish... I'm surprised it didn't melt! Better than I expected from the poor reviews! They do Peking duck quite well with the side ingredients chopped to the proper size. The duck was quite standard but the wrap was thin and tasty. But wish they provided at least 2 more wraps. They gave us a whole head of lettuce for the sang choi bao. It was kind of tedious to peel apart but I appreciated the amount given. We also had clay pot rice with beef patty and choi which was actually in a metal pot. It was okay only because the rice was too moist and there wasn't a nice crispy rice cracker to eat. Family dinner night and this place was chosen by the elders in the family who live close by and come regularly. Judging by the number of oversized tables (can seat over 10 people) crammed into the restaurant this is a popular place for family meals. The menu has everything! Think Congee Queen or Wong menus. I even saw avocado shake on the drink options. What sets them apart is they have a good selection of set dinners. Let's start with the environment....there were waayyy too many tables/people crammed into this small space. I am almost certain they violated some fire code. If there are not enough chairs at the table they break out plastic stools for the customers. In terms of cleanliness I would give it a 2 star. The noise volume was high! Food...it was okay.....I would not say it was the best even if the prices were reasonable. We didn't order a set meal but chose separate items off the menu. Food was good but nothing memorable. Service....it was actually okay but with this many people don't expect white glove attentiveness. All in all the whole experience was meh. Soooo many options in Scarborough that I am sure you can find somewhere else where the food and prices are just as comparable and cleanliness would be higher! Tried the gigantic steamed oysters tonight and it was so fresh and flavourful with your choice of minced garlic or black bean sauce. The size of the oysters shocked me as they were so humungous ! Also their beef (in a phyllo type bowl) was tender and peppery. Their Fukien fried rice had very good "wok hei" but a too much sauce provided. The crab and fish maw soup was delicious and had real crab meat to my delight ! Overall, a definite 5/5 for four of the five items selected. I came across this restaurant from one of my Chinese food fb group. Definitely a great addition to near my parents home! The afternoon tea that runs from 2-5pm has a wide variety from like $7-14. My parents ordered the beef brisket noodles and they enjoyed it. Big portion and you can drinks from lemon ice tea to red bean freeze. We often come for their afternoon tea combos, which are very affordably priced and come with a drink of your choice, including a red bean ice cream freeze. This place is very loud, seems like everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs in Mandarin and that didn't help as our server didn't speak English. We ordered the pineapple seafood fried rice, E-fu noodles, and fried squid. I mean, the food was decent but i just couldn't get over seeing one of the chefs in the washroom, using the washroom and just retuning to work WITHOUT washing his hands!! Arrived around dinner time. Didn't order from the traditional dinner menu, we're just looking for a quick bite. So each got our own noodle or rice dish. The soup noodle is packed with MSG. You're supposed to reduce majority of the salt if you're using msg!!!! Either msg or the salt must be on sale! It must be a Hong Kong chef, cause you can taste the style of cooking has the HK localized flavor. Not that HK localized style is bad, I'm just use to more authentic flavor with my "Ma Po" tofu.
