    Pork jowl
    Sarah M.

Great food though I find some dishes to be on the expensive side! Friendly service (one of the servers even tied our takeout bag for us when we left it sitting open after packing up our leftovers). We also really enjoyed the banchan (kimchi, broccoli, potato noodles, spicy cucumber, fish cakes & some kind of dried fish that was spicy with a hint of sweetness). We ordered the soft tofu stew with seafood (main), pork jowl (main) and half and half raw marinated shrimps (main). Since all 3 was considered a main dish, it all came with rice. I had the stew which I found to be delicious especially on a very cold day. The heat (temperature & spice level) warmed my soul. There was a decent amount of small shrimps, mussels and calamari in it with one large shrimp in it plus a raw egg & tons of soft tofu. I struggled to finish everything but in the end managed to. My husband had the pork jowl. I got to try a piece and it was so moist, tender and very flavorful! We both tried the raw marinated shrimp & we weren't a fan. I did like the soy sauce one better than the spicy one. Nothing wrong with it but it's just not our thing. What I found pricy is the pork jowls at $26. The amount of pork doesn't really add up to the price although it is very tasty. We also ordered the fried chicken spicy with rice cakes to take home for dinner. I think this was closed to $30 & when we had it for dinner, I was shocked at how little chicken there was & only 7 Tteok-bokki in it. I also wouldn't call this KFC as the batter was non-existent. It was still good but just not worth $30 imo. I do want to go back & try their gamjatang which is what I normally get but I was too tired to do the work. One star deducted due to cost of certain food items otherwise food was good & so was the service!

Pork bone hotpot (top left), pork belly (top right), raw shrimps half and half (bottom)

Came on Saturday night. They are busy but still able to get seat for 2 immediately. Ordered their raw shrimps half and half, it's very tasty and liked it. Pork belly portion is good for share and meat was good. Pork bone hotpot was also good for 3-4 people. It's a little bit more spicy than other places but it's not by a lot. Can asked for mild next time maybe. The only thing about the pork bone hotpot is they don't include potatoes and rice. Overall, this place is good and would come back

The Korean Raw Shrimp and Crab are the highlight here. Very popular. People come here mainly because of these authentic delicacies. The Raw Shrimp (half-n-half) is better than the Raw Crab in my opinion. Better texture, less messy, and more value. Both the classic and spicy choices are very flavorful. It is perfect to wash them down with a couple of Korean Soju. When you eat here, they also provide those traditional small dishes. Nice and filling. Good selections on the menu. Great place when craving for a Korean fix. Good enough parking space. A little dark at night. Just be careful after dinner. Highly recommended.

    Cold noodles are AMAZING

Really excited to see a Korean restaurant offering the raw dishes (beef, shrimp and crab) and cold noodles year round. I am always trying to find somewhere to grab cold noodles since many places only offer it seasonally. It's refreshing and I love being able to add my vinegar and mustard to season it up. I think there's better options available around North York area - this wasn't anything special, but I do like having the access to this dish. The raw shrimp wasn't my favourite. A lot of the flavour is really just on the shell and I actually didn't feel great after eating it. Maybe just sensitive belly since most others seem fine. The raw beef (Yukhoe) dish was fantastic. Very light, refreshing and interesting. I do wish it had a bit more of a sauce or something to it because halfway through the dish, it does start to get a bit overpowered by anything else you're eating. Or it just starts to get dull. I have nothing to compare it to - but that's what I would like. Over all - It's a great new spot, but I don't believe it truly lives up to the crazy online hype. It's good food. I think a bit over priced and nothing that I would leave craving again soon. Also, I recommend to come early because it tends to get pretty busy at regular meal times and I don't see that they take reso's. They're a great place for 2-4 people, but larger parties might have trouble when it gets busier.

Anju opened in Markham from North York and has been all the rave for their soy-marinated raw craw and soy-marinated raw shrimp. It's new and the space isn't too big. They also don't take any reservations, regardless of how big your party is. So make sure to walk in early or to put yourself on their waitlist by the door - the old school way with pen and paper. Came here twice already and some of their stand out items are quite delicious: Korean Beef Tartare 5/5 Spicy Rice Cake 5/5 Soy marinated raw crabs 4/5 Spicy marinated raw crabs 5/5 Soy marinated raw shrimp 5/5 Clam thick noodle soup 5/5 Pork bone soup 5/5 Cold noodles 4/5 Fried chicken with green onion 5/5 Spicy whelk meat salad with thin noodles 5/5 Main items I loved were all their raw stuff, especially the spicy marinated raw crabs and spicy whelk meat salad with thin noodles. Come with a larger group so you can try more things! Can't wait to be back.

    Special (Sep 5, 2025)

I've dined in twice now and I feel like they deserve a review. Anju Markham has unique menu that leans heavily on the seafood offering which I absolutely love. My first visit was with a bigger group (5 adult, 1 teen and 1 pre-teen) so we got to try a bunch of things. Their daily special uni & oyster pancake is a must-try as the combination of the 2 ingredients with a batter similar to Korean green onion seafood pancake completely knocked this dish out of the park. Crispy, savoury, sweet and oceany...all coming together for a delicious bite. Yummm..... Their beef tartare was also above average, but my daughter did not love the frozen texture of the beef. Fried chicken with green onion was your standard KFC, nothing special, but still tasty. The smoked abalone appetizer was interesting and although it's a great idea, I didn't love the flavour of the ssam-jang that was made with the abalone intestine (there has got to be a better translation than this, sorry!) which made it slightly bitter Galbi was obligatory for the kids and it was fine. The marinated crabs, although tasty, was a little too salty for my liking and made me miss the real deal from Korean where they use the much larger variety of Korean crab, not the blue crab used here in North America. I find that the flavour of the Korean (kkot-gyeh) is sweeter than the blue crab which makes a difference in the overall flavour. It was too much anyway so I ended up bringing home the leftover and used them as a soup base the next day which worked out well to tone down the saltiness. My favourite was the spicy noodle dish with welk as this cold, spicy noodles tossed with crunchy greens and chewy welk was a perfect balance of sweet, savoury and spicy. I ended up going back with my sister just for this dish which is saying a lot. Their banchan are great and I loved that they had the spicy dried pollock dish. Their kimchi, however, left a lot to be desired though. On both visits, they kimchi was both too well fermented for my taste, but I am happy to overlook this for their other offerings. I am sure I will be back here with more Korean food loving friends as the service is super attentive and the seating is very very comfortable. Yay for Anju!

Got the pork bone soup - debating by that and military stew. I'm glad I got this as soup was tasty, meat was fall off bone, had assortment of some vegetables. Only thing is that the soup can be spicier but they can't just make it that way. It is meant for two people and can say confidently that is a true statement. The bon chon had good variety. Service nothing to complain about. Overall a good dish at a decent Korean restaurant.

Raw marinated shrimp (half and half)

We went on a weekday lunch and there were maybe four occupied tables. The service was pretty quick and the servers were friendly. We got the raw marinated shrimp (half/half), raw marinated crab (half/half), and beef tartare. Everything was great. They served 8 shrimps and 11 halves of a crab (total would be 5.5 crabs). The beef tartare was a good refreshing appetizer and helped tone down the strong flavors from the seafood marinade between bites. They offer refills of the banchan. The restaurant is relatively new so everything felt clean and there was a lot of natural light coming from the windows.

Anju relocated recently and the new location is right at Woodbine and Denison in Markham. It's not hard to miss, but the entrance faces towards the plaza and not Woodbine. We came at 7pm on a Friday and we had to write down our name and phone number. The average wait time was about 30 mins but there were only two tables of 3 ahead of us. They don't take reservations either. The restaurant was quite noisy, but spacious and clean. We got the raw marinated shrimp (half soy and half spicy), gamjatang and cold noodles. The cold noodles was a good balance because of the other savory dishes. Personally, I wish I had more rice to go with the raw shrimp. It was hard to track down the servers (basically only two were serving). We will return!

Came for dinner and we got seated very quickly. The service was overall very nice and the workers were all very kind. We ordered the marinated crab ( half and half) , la galbi and pork bone soup. Unfortunately most of the dishes left me disappointed, especially the pork bone soup. The pork bone soup was very bland tasting and it wasn't spicy at all and the colour was off- very different from what I'm used to. The galbi was the same, very bland and barely any sauce on it. The only redemption was the marinated crab which I thought was decent tasting.

@anju.toronto is back with a whole new vibe. I used to go to their North York spot for late-night KBBQ and snacks. Now they've reopened in Markham and it's just as tasty. * Soy & spicy marinated crabs & shrimps: loved the soy marinade for both, lightly sweet but balanced. The shrimp were meaty and soaked up the sauce so well. Def my fave. * Beef tartare: super fresh and flavourful. Easily one of my fave places for Korean-style tartare. * Deep-fried shrimp & lotus root balls: crunchy, not greasy, and the filling had great texture and taste. * Spicy whelk salad with thin noodles: a good kick from the spicy and fun to mix up. * Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodles: light, nutty, refreshing. It's a perfect contrast to all the bold flavours. The menu is completely different from what I remembered, but everything we tried hit the spot. Will definitely be back (probably often ).

    Soy marinated raw crabs
    Hank K.

Very very fresh raw crabs, albeit the flavours got a bit boring at the end (I should've got the half & half). The tonkatsu, on the other hand, was really amazing. The sauce was super unique (apple mustard vinaigrette) and refreshing. It somehow went super well with the rice. This place is a great summer Korean food spot. It seems that they have really good cold noodle dishes too. 4/5

    Canada lunch day
    John Y.

Nicely decorated hipsterish restaurant, opens at 1200, already a line of people waiting on Canada's day. Diners waiting had a bougie vibe to them. Friends wanted to try marinated raw crab, not my jam, but let's go with the flow, if I'm judgemental about raw crab then there's no hope for my wonderful soul. Ordered the half and half raw crab (soy sauce/spicy). Crab was soft but flavor originated mainly from the sauces. Luckily they give you plastic gloves or it would have be a mitigated disaster, lips were burning after the spicy crab. Beef tendon soup, huge beefy flavor bomb and the beef tendon was buttery soft Clam noodle soup- similar to other places I've had. For some reason some of the clams were sandy, not good. Soup broth and noodles were acceptable Spicy monkfish- have you seen photos of a monkfish (poor man's lobster), that is one ugly fish. They overdid the sauce, way too much, plenty of thick monkfish pieces and beansprouts. Sauce was spicy and the heat sneaks up on you, I can feel the sweat pooling up on the back of my neck All in all, it was an ok experience, got the raw crab fixation accomplished, onto the next food adventure

Ambiance is casual, interior is clean, and service is fast and attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes and they all came out relatively quickly. There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options, such as the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetables Bibimbap, Mushrooms Bibimbap, Vegetables Udon, Vegetables Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancake, Soondubu-jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) in different variations, and more. The menu was pretty extensive, covering the most typical Korean dishes from the stews and grilled items, to a few Korean-Chinese dishes (such as Jajangmyeon) and everything in between. Steamed Vegetables Dumplings were quite small individually, but came in a sizeable portion. I liked the green onion garnish. Taste-wise, they were alright. Vegetables Bibimbap was excellent - good amount of mixed vegetables (spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, carrot strips, lettuce, bean sprouts) and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the outer edges, with a still gooey and runny yolk. Grilled Croaker was also decent. It had a lot of small bones as it was a whole fish. It came served with purple rice, and we chose to add on extra lettuce. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles came in a big portion - with lots of slippery, thick udon noodles, pieces of seafood (mussels, clams, squid, shrimps, octopus), and a little big of vegetables (zucchini, carrot, onion). They came in a nice seafood-infused broth - perfect for a cold winter day. I'd come again for the variety of menu items they offer (especially the wide selection of vegetarian options), satisfying tastes, and great & efficient service.

Our favourite item was the seafood pancake. We devoured that and if given a choice to only order one dish, I would definitely recommend the seafood pancake. The budae jeongol (as a solo dish) could easily feed two people. They pack the soup in two large circular soup-like takeout containers and the ingredients in a square container - same as the ones that the bossam and seafood pancake came in. There were plenty of tteokbokki, sausages, cabbage, and ramen noodles. We put the dish together in a wok and kept it heated on a portable induction cooktop. I like that you can order the egg to be over hard my dad got this and said he liked it. It's his goto! Service was nice. They were so attentive and gave us extra napkins. I do have to say though... They're ALL butter fingers. They dropped things over 5 times on the floor and I saw them put at least 2 of those things back into the clean basket (red) to wipe down and serve. Good thing we sanitize all our utensils everywhere before using them. Vibes are casual. Come in sweatpants. I love their 2000s rnb playlist that they had going.

After we placed our order, they serve us caa cup of hot somen (so good), it warms your stomach. Later the meals came with 5 banchan, they all seasoned perfectly, my favorite is the lotus root and Kimchi. Slice pork broth soup lightly salted and comes with 2 dips (mini sauce pot) on aside, personal preference would be gochujiang mix on the right which gives you a punch of spice. It's hard to find good Korean restaurant in Markham/scarborough. This is definitely a hidden gem, will definitely come back with the boys.

De Chou has a lengthy menu to match with dishes made for a crowd. The kamjatang jeongol ($47.99) is…read morea hot pot stuffed to the gills with pork bones, potatoes, rice cakes, zucchini, and even enoki mushrooms and jalapeno garnishes. The broth wasn't very salty but still flavourful and once you let the peppers steep into the broth, they add a lovely spicy kick. Another substantial dish is the steamed pork bo saam ($49.99 for large) where slices of pork belly are kept warm on a hot plate. Diners tuck these soft meat slices into lettuce, Napa cabbage, and turnip with a smear of the savoury bean sauce for a protein packed bite. Our table was split about the haemui pa jeon ($28.99). The size of a medium pizza, it's made for a group. Personally, I found it way too thick and didn't contain enough ingredients to balance out the doughiness of the Korean style pancake. Conversely, my relatives preferred the heft as it contrasted the crispy exterior and soft interior. I guess it depends if you're a thin versus pan crust type of pizza lover. I'm firmly in the Neapolitan camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the crust that develops on the bottom of yachae dolsot bibimbap ($18.99). And the hot stone rice bowl contained a good combination of ingredients to ensure there was plenty of vegetables and beef to go around. De Chou's LA kalbi ($34.99) was rather neutral with very little sauce, so you mostly taste the beef. I personally would have preferred more sauce to help caramelize onto the beef ribs, but the older members of the family appreciated the plainness and liked that it was tender. This is a long review for the rest go to Gastro World.
