Wow. This has been on my to eat list for awhile now and so glad I finally made the visit. The decor and vibes are on point!!! Service was impeccable. Everyone was attentive from filling our water to bringing out each dish. It was a team effort. We asked for recommendations and they were on point! We even chose their roasted duck special of the night and it was so good!! The portion sizes are huge! So worth every price!! This is a perfect date night spot or celebrating a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Visited this restaurant on mother's day for a lovely lunch :) What we ordered: Zucchini chips: ($27) 8.5/10 I've never had zucchini chips before, they were perfectly fried, light, and went well with the tzatziki. I feel like there could've been more zucchini for the price point Peppercorn steak: ($78) 8.5/10 Very tender and well-cooked steak. I couldn't really taste much of a peppercorn flavor in the sauce though. I prefer my steak on the saltier side so I asked for some salt and they gave me a small bowl of flakey sea salt (my favourite!). Lobster roll ($48): 9/10 I've never had avocado in a lobster roll before, and the flavours & textures actually worked really well together! The lobster tasted fresh and sweet. The fries were crispy and plentiful. This spot is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food, service, and ambiance is reflected in the price.
The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived, but service was impressively quick and genuinely friendly, which immediately made the experience feel welcoming. The carpaccio was fine, pleasant but fairly straightforward, but everything else we ordered was excellent The octopus was tender, and hearty, paired nicely with potatoes, hummus, some greens, and capers. It was well-balanced and satisfying without feeling heavy. The steak came out a perfect medium-rare and juicy. The nut topping on the fish added a really nice crunch, contrasting beautifully with the soft, tender flesh of the fish. And then there was the duck: the clear standout of the night. It was beautifully cooked and seasoned. The fat kept it incredibly juicy without feeling greasy. The charred cabbage on the side added a subtle smokiness that tied everything together perfectly. Every bite honestly made me happier and happier. Getting to the restaurant was a little confusing at first, but once you're there, it's absolutely worth it. A really enjoyable meal overall, and especially memorable for that duck dish. Definitely a place I'd return to.
Still a staple restaurant in Mainstreet Unionville of Markham. Food is still great, service is still amazing, and ambiance is good. My only suggestion for this restaurant would be that they didn't have a lunch menu when I was there OR it wasn't presented to us, because I see it on their website currently. At the time when I was there, I really thought they could pivot to add a lunch menu, as not everyone wants to be paying $75-$100 for a lunch (which was my case when I went for lunch over summer time). Here's what we got between three of us during lunch: Zucchini Chips 5/5 $26 - Love this and tastes even better with some honey that we asked for on the side Arugula & Fennel Salad 4/5 $24 - Delicious and refreshing. It comes with toasted pine nuts, aged parm and citrus vinaigrette. Lamb Chops 5/5 $72 - So good and highly recco. Served with tzatziki, roasted veg and potatoes. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Lobster Tagliatelle 5/5 $58 - Delicious, with fresh lobster, bisque, cream and chives. The flavours were decadent and well balanced. Overall, still a really solid spot to check out. Definitely on the pricey side since it's in the heart of Mainstreet Unionville.
Interior aesthetic here is such a vibe. Had a resy and got seated upstairs by the window and had a nice view overlooking the outside. Our server came pretty fast to ask us if we had questions about the menu and took our drink orders. Attention here was spot on as we had water refills frequently without being asked! We ordered zucchini chips with a yogurt dip, lamb chops, and lobster tailiglate. Zucchini chips were battered and fried nicely def a good app. The lamb chops were requested to be medium rare however it seems like it was cooked more on the rare side. Had a great crust but still pretty pink inside. Would have preferred medium rare but at least the lamb didn't have any gameyness to it at all . Lobster pasta had a good amount of lobster chunks and the pasta was nice and al dente. Loved the sauce that this was tossed in as well, had a spicy kick to it and the tomato taste was very rich.
Came here for a Christmas date. We just ordered the one off menu item which was the surf and turf because we're suckers for ribeye. The steak was a massive 28oz bone-in beast (though it might've been a few oz short). It came with 3 jumbo prawns that were cooked perfectly and they came on a pan of red wine demi glaze and some mushrooms. The side was shoestring fries with some standard aioli. Service was adequate if a bit slow at times but overall a decent meal as the steak was cooked perfectly. Nothing spectacular overall and hence I feel it's a bit overpriced at $225. I may return to try their regular menu but it's mostly not my type of cuisine.
Venue 5/5 Cozy setting great for conversation with friends and family. Beautiful decor in Historic Main St., Unionville. Additionally, in the summer and warmer season there's an outdoor patio as well. It's a multifloor restaurant. Service 4/5 Staff are very attentive and insightful. They also have off the menu items that they recommended last time and seasonal menu changes. Food 4.5/5 We had an off the menu steak along with a beef tagliatelle. We had various sides and portions are good for sharing as well. Some sides included the roasted brussels sprouts.
A beautiful tapestry of a restaurant in a quaint neighbourhood serving some delicious food. I had the pleasure of having lunch at Watercolour last week after pining to go to this restaurant for a long time. It's difficult to get to due to local city construction but plow through that and don't let it stop you because this establishment delivers on all fronts. Service was exceptional, fast, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks goes out to Erin who went above and beyond to welcome me and help me feel comfortable. The restaurant itself is beautiful, cozy and quiet with a lot of different nooks to settle in nicely for some delicious food. Speaking of food: I ordered the lobster roll with fries and it was spectacular. A large portion of fries accompanied a roll stuffed with lobster that was succulent and so very tasty. What a lovely experience all through and through. I'll definitely be back!
We had dinner at Watercolour because my friend was always curious about it whenever she was around Unionville. It turned out to be a really solid choice. The place feels classy yet comfortable, with a bit of old school charm and a calm vibe all around. For those wondering, we sat upstairs and the noise level wasn't nearly as echoey as some reviews mentioned. Service was excellent, probably one of the best I have seen in a long time. The staff were attentive, fun, and kept things light with jokes here and there. It honestly felt like the kind of dinner experience we used to have before the pandemic. I also appreciated how seriously they took allergies, which was reassuring. For starters we shared Zucchini Chips, Baked Feta, and Octopus a la Plancha (which came with a nice hummus on the side). Mains were Lobster Paccheri and Seafood Risotto. The flavours and aromas were lively and the ingredients felt fresh and properly cooked. If I had to nitpick, the Zucchini Chips could have stayed crispier a bit longer, and the octopus could have had more of that chewy tang I remember from other versions. The risotto was on the softer side, probably to suit local preferences, but the seafood was spot on. The Lobster Paccheri was excellent, the kind of pasta dish that makes you happy to pay for it, which says a lot since pasta can often feel overpriced in many places. With this level of quality and service, I can easily see myself coming back. Two small things aside, everything else was a joy and I truly enjoyed every bit of the evening.
Took my mom there for her birthday and the food was amazing! My parents shared the surf & turf. I got their lobster tagliatelle and my husband got the short rib pappardelle. We also got the calamari, Octopus a la Plancha and an order of their bread to share. The service was nothing outstanding but they were there when we needed them to be. The restaurant ambiance itself is beautiful. Gorgeous decor and definitely feels like a high end restaurant. I took a star off the rating because the desserts were obscenely priced and very small in portion. For the two small desserts I got, we could have bought a whole cake and some!
Having just landed in Toronto--and completely forgetting it was Mother's Day --I found myself in a last-minute scramble to find a restaurant that wasn't overflowing with crowds. By some stroke of luck (or divine intervention), I stumbled upon this spot with one available seat... at the chef's table, no less! I started with the burrata and beets, and was pleasantly surprised to receive an entire burrata--rare and appreciated. The beets were delicious, though the dish as a whole was noticeably under-seasoned. I asked for salt and pepper (and silently wished for a drizzle more olive oil, but didn't want to push my luck). Then came the seafood risotto--an absolute dream. The flavor transported me straight back to the kind of risotto I had growing up in Italy--rich, layered, and perfectly balanced. Truly unmatched. The only letdown? The rice. It wasn't just al dente; it was crunchy. You could literally hear it. But the flavor was so divine, I couldn't bear to send it back for fear it might not come out the same. As for the prices--definitely on the steep side (heavily), but great flavors. 4 stars just for the almost raw rice...
Waiter and service overall were excellent. Staff very attentive to your needs. Food was excellent. Great place for a date or celebrating something special. It's pricey but that may be the norm these days. I don't think you will see a Sysco truck delivering to this establishment.
Watercolour is a beautiful restaurant. As soon as you walk in you are just in awe of how beautiful the space is. Came here for an early birthday celebration for a friend. We were seated upstairs in one of the little coves, beautiful space to dine in. Service started great. We ordered the zucchini chips to start and our drinks. We also ordered our mains at the same time. I ordered the Short ribs penne and my friend ordered the Salmon. Presentation wise the food looked amazing and taste wise the food was equally as delicious. The only thing was...service. Our server never came back to check on us. I would have loved some crushed black pepper, but he never came back. Someone completely different took our dessert order, dropped it off and quickly left and well we had no forks. It took a while to flag someone down to get forks. I think what made the experience not great was the lack of service. Another thing, I'm a person that looks at the menu before going to any place. I noticed that menu online and in person were completely different. The prices were also completely different. Everything on the in person menus was 10-15 dollars more than started on the website. Completely false advertisement. Also, There is inconsistency in the items online than in person. Online it was a short rib pappardelle, in person it's penne. This is just dishonest. The pricing the difference in the menus, completely dishonest. While Watercolour might be a beautiful place all that beauty goes out the window when you your expectations and service are not there.
We came to Watercolour for our anniversary dinner and had such a lovely experience! The restaurant itself is beautiful, with tall ceilings, a warm and elegant interior, and cozy booth seating that makes it especially nice for a date night. The location on Unionville Main Street is also a big plus, and they have a really nice patio that would be perfect for dining outside when the weather is nice. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the mussels and octopus, and both were excellent. I especially love the charred flavour in the octopus. And the baguettes that came with the mussels are so addicting as well. Love the little kick in the broth! For our mains, we ordered the striploin and seafood risotto. The striploin was cooked perfectly and full of flavour, while the seafood risotto was creamy and packed with seafood. Our server was attentive, friendly, and very helpful with his recommendations. He gave us his honest opinion when we were deciding between the tenderloin and striploin. We ended up choosing to try more dishes instead of spending $185 on the bone-in tenderloin in the end. And even though we ordered way too much food for just the two of us, we cleared EVERYTHING! they were that delicious! We'd definitely come back for more food! read more

Came here for our Anniversary dinner, nothing was done like what they tend to do at places like Joey but seems like only for birthdays - not that I was expecting anything but wanted to see if there was something in comparison. You'll need reservations here for sure and best to reserve a table not the day before otherwise they'll have bar tops available. They have a second floor for a more private dining which is nice for small groups or couples, the washrooms are downstairs, floors are slippery - be careful! When we got there we got to choose between the alcohol side or kitchen bar, we chose the alcohol bar side since the bartender Jasmine greeted me immediately and complimented my outfit. This is a pricey place, more a high end kind of restaurant so if you're looking for a cheaper place, don't go here obviously. Food was pretty decent with what we ordered. The only that didn't stand out whatsoever was the salmon. I've been to many high end restaurants and in other countries so salmon isn't much of a hit typically. They sold out of the bass fillet and the mussels (specials for the night/week - forgot what Jasmine said) so if you want to try these, order asap! Drinks were great! I asked for a Caesar as my second/third drink and wanted a specific amount of spice, Jasmine just came with the tabasco and put the amount I wanted, thank goodness! I feel like we definitely got the best service sitting by the drinks bar with Jasmine just genuinely kind and chatting with us. We had a great time and will definitely be coming here again. read more

I honestly can't remember the last time I had such a disappointing dining experience. The food was incredibly underwhelming. Every dish lacked flavor, and the steak was by far the worst--tough, chewy, and oddly bitter. Definitely not what you'd expect for a restaurant at this price point. What was even more frustrating was the overall experience. We made a reservation for Canada Day and even received a confirmation email beforehand, yet no one informed us that the upstairs air conditioning was broken. It was a heat warning day in Toronto, and we ended up having dinner in an extremely hot dining room. The service made things even worse. During our 1.5-hour meal, the server proactively refilled water only once--and only for my husband. The rest of the time we had to repeatedly ask for water ourselves. On a day with a heat warning, that level of service was honestly unacceptable. Since there was no air conditioning, the windows were left open, and flies were constantly flying around while we were eating. We spent around $400 for four dishes, expecting a special Canada Day dinner, but left feeling disappointed in every aspect. Between the average food, poor service, broken AC, and uncomfortable dining environment, this experience was nowhere near worth the price. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

Came here for my anniversary with my bf and we had a wonderful time. We sat upstairs with the side by side seat which made it intimate and cute for a date. Our servers were amazing and tentative. We had the octopus (recommend) that comes with hummus, potatoes and peppers which was flavourful. The calamari were crispy and delicious. We shared the 12oz steak and it was cooked to medium rare and was good. Cute restaurant for an occasion or date. read more

My brother brought me here to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. The seasonal lights at the building entrance were beautifully decorated, warm and festive. The food was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented; every dish showed great care and attention to detail. The portions were perfect, and everything tasted absolutely delicious. Every staff member was incredibly friendly, always greeting us with happy, smiling faces throughout the meal. Their warm attitude made the atmosphere feel welcoming and comfortable, and they checked in at just the right moments without ever making us feel rushed. The restaurant is warm, clean, and relaxing, a lovely place to enjoy a meal with loved ones. A true gem in Unionville. Delicious food, amazing service, perfect portions, and a genuinely pleasant dining experience. read more

This has been on my list for a special occasion meal in Markham ever since I heard of it opening. For Valentine's Day my girlfriend and I came by to try and we had a lovely delicious dinner. We were lucky to be seated at a booth on the second floor which was intimate and also sheltered away from the cold. The Valentine's Day menu allowed us to pick one app and dessert each, along with a shared main. We got the following: - Crab Croquette with Aioli & caviar - Tenderloin Carpaccio with Aioli, Mancheo & Fresh Truffles - 14oz Australian Wagyu Striploin with Roasted Vegetables & Potatoes - Chocolate truffle cake with hazlenuts - Vanilla cheesecake with raspberry compote My favourite was the wagyu, which was cooked perfectly and was delicious and tender. The dish also featured a nice mix of mushrooms, onions, peppers, and potatoes. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the night even more enjoyable. I would love to come back perhaps for more an a la carte experience, as I thought the food was wonderful, and the presentation was on point, but the pricing ($165 per person) left a bit to be desired. read more
Tried this place for the first time--and wow, where has it been all my life? I've passed by it a hundred times and had no idea it was there! Genuinely think that this is one of my favourite restaurants in Main Street Unionville. I don't usually have Mediterranean inspired food often but this place exceeded my expectations. The interior of the restaurant was so stunning and all of the food was beautifully presented. Favourite app had to be the baked feta that slightly crisp on the outside and soft of the inside, and it was perfectly balanced with flavour from the pistachios and honey. Overall I genuinely enjoyed my experience here and will be back We ordered: Lamb chops Steak Tuna tartare tuna Octopus alla plancha Baked feta read more
It was my birthday that my husband booked this restaurant to celebrate with me. It was weekday night that we were there. The restaurant was busy and lots of people made reservations ahead. Sort of popular. The restaurant has front and back patios and indoor dining room (upstairs and downstairs). During summer, they open both front and back patios during the day, but only open the back patio at night. We preferred the patio. Since we had made reservation, we had our table fast. Then we had to settled down our baby first, it took a bit time, but the waitress came to us couple times. Kind of a bit rush. Finally, baby was quiet a little bit, we were rushed to order our drink and food. I got a glass of white Sangria, as my husband was the driver of the night. We had the Calamari Fritti ($26) and Rack of Lamb ($62). They didn't take long to be served, but the "rack" of lamb was not that much. Maybe we misunderstood the word. The taste of Calamari was no different than the others; the lamb was burnt outside, but I liked the garnishes on the top, which was with some green onion or parsley, they tasted like marinated or pickled. I would say it was an high end restaurant. We might come back when they have more interesting stuff. read more
I think the food is absolutely delicious here as well as the fact that the ambiance is really upscale for somewhere in Markham Unionville. When you walk inside, you're transported to some trendy spot in downtown Toronto. However, I think the price reflects that of Toronto real estate rent and not Markham Unionville rent. And I feel like it was kind of an overpriced dinner even though the food was good. I think there are probably other places with higher quality food for that same price range. But overall, I thought the zucchini chips were really good, so crispy that each one was puffed up. The octopus was on a bed of hummus with some roasted potatoes. We ordered a side of bread that was dipped in olive oil and freshly baked, which was absolutely delicious and we use that bread to soak up all the hummus and olive oil from the octopus dish. We ordered their halibut special. It was actually a pretty large portion but quite expensive and the seafood risotto tasted exactly like the seafood risotto I had in Greece, so the food was quite authentic to Greek slash Mediterranean food however, the price I just couldn't get over given that I was dining in Markham. Our server was very nice and explained all the dishes to us and took the time to make sure we were well served. read more

Do you feel like spending a meal in a Mediterranean paradise? For those of us not able to jump on a plane, this is the next best thing. The side patio is amazing and feels like a retreat with its flowers, lights and secluded feel. Nice spot for a Spritz or Peach Bellini cocktail The food is equally impressive. Zucchini crisps were light and flavorful. The salmon and the lobster rolls were good sizes and absolutely packed with flavor. The chunky fries that came with the lobster were deceivingly filling and unique. Finally, the service was on point too. Had an amazing meal at this beautiful restaurant in the heart of Main Street Unionville featuring Mediterranean cuisine. The staff did their best to give us seats due to the patio situation. Octopus was amazing - although I would have preferred the octopus served as a whole and not cut up into pieces. The lobster pasta and the sea bass was really delicious. Unfortunately we had to sit at the bar since the patio was not unavailable due to rain, but I quite enjoyed the food - everything tasted wonderful. However, I do think they need to work on dessert- as they not only did not have an actual menu, they were also pretty basic, just slices of cheesecake and cake. If they can improve on that I think it would be an even better experience! read more
Came here a second time and this time was for our wedding anniversary. When we made the reservation online, we requested for a more spacious and private table, and we indeed got seated at a table with a lot of privacy on the first floor. We received a warm welcome by Michael upon our arrival and he did a good job introducing the menu and specials. We ordered the Organic Salmon and Lobster Tagliatelle. The salmon was super delicious. The skin was crispy till the last bite and the inside was really tender. It was cooked to perfection. Michael was also attentive and considerate enough to make sure the salmon was a bit more on the cooked than how they would normally serve it due to dietary restrictions without being asked. The sauces and chickpea with the tomato and onion were so refreshing and complemented the salmon perfectly. The lobster pasta was really good as well. The lobster was fresh and there was sufficient lobster. The tagliatelle was perfectly al dente. It was also nicely portioned and prepared in the sense that you would not feel very full or bloated from the cream and would still enjoy the very last bite. Because it was our anniversary, Michael was generous enough to offer us a complementary dessert. That was definitely a nice gesture and we really appreciated it. We had the New York Cheesecake and it was really tasty. It didn't taste too sweet but just enough sweetness to end the meal. Overall, we were very satisfied with our dining experience here both times, especially this time. Service was really good and Michael came to check on us and fill our water a few times. They were very accommodating and detailed oriented with dietary restrictions; would go above and beyond to ensure the restrictions were met without our request. The only downside was that because it was a really hot day (30 degree Celsius), there were some flies flying around. However, the food and dining experience were really good that I'm still giving it a five star despite the flies. Also because we did notice that they had an electric bug zapper by the door already so it seemed like they tried to mitigate the issue already. read more

Came here for a weekday lunch with friends. Love the bright, modern and cozy decor. We were seated upstairs where there is a main dining area and cute little cut-outs on the other side for a closer date experience. Our server was prompt and was able to gauge the time needed for us to chat. We had a smattering of appetizers as our meal. The burrata had a generous portion of super sweet and fresh cherry tomatoes and basil. The burrata had a nice creamy texture. The tuna tartare was very fresh and not fishy at all. The octopus polenta was a bit drier and not as tender as expected. Our friends let us try their salmon and it was perfectly cooked, so tender and flavourful. The burger that they had also wasn't gamey at all which can come from the lamb in the burger. We finished off with the toasted coconut pie and passion fruit New York cheesecake. The coconut pie was quite nice but the cheesecake was on the sweeter side. Overall a nice experience! read more
Absolutely stunning and an amazing experience. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was amazing. Ambiance is so cool- the food is next level. Yes, it's fancy and high end but you get the quality. The seafood risotto wasn't on the menu as it was a chef special that comes back around often. The seafood was cooked to perfection. Not a single scallop or squid was rubbery. The sauce complimented the seafood so well- it was so delicious I could lick the plate clean. (But can't cause we are dining fancy lol) The place is also stunning! Who knew you can have this level of dining experience right in Markham. Parking is available right beside the restaurant and there are seating available outside, inside, and upstairs. Limited though so make sure you book through open table. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it when you want to treat yourself? Absolutely! read more
Had an amazing time at Watercolour! Originally planned for our wedding anniversary, but high demand led us there for my bestie's birthday last night. The interior design is stunning, and the staff, including our server, did a fantastic job. We were thoroughly satisfied with all the dishes during our dinner. Highly recommend for anyone looking to visit! 。 Lobster Tagliatelle Rack of Lamb Shortrib Cavatelli Gnocchi Mediterranean Octopus House Bread read more

The service was great at Watercolour - staff was attentive and make sure our water was filled and provided great recommendations. We ordered the following: - zucchini chips (great for sharing, crispy but a tad overpriced for the amount) - kale salad (I would skip this salad and try the others instead. The kale needed some more massaging and would have paired better with a different parmasan as the one used is too salty) - mixed seafood platter (another dish that is perfect for sharing. It comes with 3 pieces octopus, tiger shrimp, 6 scallops and half a lobster; the only complaint I had was that there was some sand or graininess when eating the scallops) - gnocchi (very glad that the waiter recommended this dish, it was my favourite! The gnocchi was pillowy and the tomato sauce was the perfect level of sweet, tart and savoury! They still do not have a dessert menu but we choose the Belgian chocolate cake. It was dense but the chocolate wasn't too sweet. It was great for sharing. This is the second time going to this restaurant - once for my birthday and the most recent time was for my mom's birthday. The oddest thing was that I noted that we were there to celebrate a birthday and we didn't get a candle for our dessert. The most awkward thing was the table beside us had one for the person who was celebrating their birthday! I was too embarrassed to ask cause my mom and her friend was around but wish they considered the notes on OpenTable. read more

Fantastic experience! This restaurant and the staff are cozy, cute and caring. The host greeted us right away. I noticed a few customers walking in at the same time. While they were sorting out our table, a very sweet lady from the kitchen made sure to say hi to all the customers that came after us. I thought it was so sweet. Not a "every man for themselves" environment. Our server Justin took great care of us for my moms birthday. He went above and beyond. There wasn't a moment where I though "where is he?" He checked in on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. They made sure our plates were switched out when we had saucy appetizers. The food was amazing! I loved the baked feta. I circled everything I ate on the menu plus today's special which was the mussels. Every dish we had was at least 4.5 out of 5. The Belgian chocolate cake was sooo yummy They worked together as a team and gave us a wonderful experience. My mom had a great time. What a gem! Will be back. read more
