A gem in Markham that is old school but has delicious food! I'm shocked I haven't tried this earlier. I've always known this Greek restaurant was in the plaza but never dined in until now - wow I have been missing out! Upon arrival, the space is quite dated but I still had high hopes for the food which did not disappoint. Servers were all older gentlemen that seemed intimidating but were very friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered was so delicious: Kalamarakia Fried 5/5 - Seasoned and lightly fried calamari served with Tzatziki sauce. It wasn't too crispy but had the perfect chew/ bite to it. Great for sharing. Cold Pekelia 5/5 - This was served with 4 different dips and 2 light bites including Tzatziki, taramosalata, octopus, melitzanosalata, olives and hummus. Absolutely delicious and a range of different flavours to try. Served with pita on the side. Chicken Souvlaki Dinner 5/5 - Tender chunks of chicken breast, marinated and broiled to perfection. All their dinners come with a Greek salad and garlic bread. Portions are plenty per person. Chicken was tender, juicy and bursting with flavours. Gyro Dinner 5/5 - Blend of lamb and beef, lightly spiced and broiled. Served with rice, roast potatoes, veggies and Tzatziki. So delicious I wanted to lick the plate clean. It was only 1/3 full on a Friday night. Inner decors are with wall paintings for sea and cityscapes, but overall is bit dated. All male servers looked aged over 60, they were all efficiently doing their works but all looked quite stern and straight forward. The menus are with set lunch, dinner & ala carte. We ordered the signature lamb and seafood combo set dinners. The lamb was nicely stewed & juicy, it was tender and fell off the bone instantly. The seafood combo dinner was actually just fried fish fillet with deep fried shrimps coated in bread crumb. Absolutely loved the salad. My mom thought it was a little sour from the dressing but I liked it. I liked the lamb souvlaki, it was meaty and tasted great! Seasoning was suitable. The rice was not sour, so that was great. Pork was kind of pinkish in some parts, and the salad had some old leaves as seen by the stains. Only the manager was working the ENTIRE floor on this Monday lunch hour. Manageable, but it was hard work. He was running everywhere. There was 1 big party and like 5 small parties. Because he was so busy, he didn't have the time to check in with us or else we would've spoken up about the salad and pork. Regardless, we just left those parts in the plate. The decor was amazing. My review is for takeout only, can't comment on ambiance/table service/etc... We ordered online through their app for a party of 6 people and it was super easy to navigate the website and place our orders. Pickup was also a breeze, they have a separate take-out entry at the back of the restaurant down a rather sketchy alleyway but I loved the convenience of not having to walk through a dining room and I'm sure dining in guests appreciate that as well! The takeout counter was so efficient and friendly, we were in and out in about 2 minutes. Everything was ready on time and packaged up nicely. Prices are pretty average for Greek food in York region, however the portions make it excellent value! For the actual food, I've had my share of Greek food around Richmond hill, Aurora, Newmarket and this is definitely the best. In my experience, nothing matches the restaurants on the Danforth but north of the city, this is truly the spot! We ordered a few orders of chicken souvlaki dinners, a mixed souvlaki platter, salads and calamari.6 people ate and were stuffed for about $155 including tax which I think is very reasonable! Most of us even had leftovers to take home. I myself had the chicken souvlaki which came with several pieces of juicy white chicken pieces, a generous portion of seasoned rice and the softest Greek potatoes. It also comes with a rather generous sized Greek salad, loaded with feta and fresh veggies and garlic bread which was delicious! Of course it also comes with tzatziki which I found to be perfect, super garlicky and tangy. All of this food for only around $21 plus tax. My friends who had the calamari were also very impressed, one person said it was one of the best calamari's they'd ever had! Despite the long drive home, the calamari was still delicious even though it wasn't quite as crispy as it would have been if we had dined in. I tried it as well and can agree it was very good, great flavour, soft, perfectly cooked and not overly battered. It is decorated with Greek décor, something you'd expect to see while in Greece. The waiters are fast paced and the environment is lively, great for small and large family gatherings! Bread - This is how I like my bread, thin crispy exterior and fluffy interior. It's rolled in sesame seeds to give it a beautiful aroma. I think the bread is similar to a challah (egg bread). The best part of all is this it comes free of charge! Grilled octopus - One of the more expensive appetizer options is the grilled octopus. The octopus will grilled and seasoned to perfection with a bit of salt, pepper and olive oil. The octopus had the gentle but chewy texture of a carefully cooked octopus. The portion was about 1-2 tentacles, abit pricey but it was delicious! Mixed Souvlaki Plate - This was an absolute giant of a meal, it comes with the plate and a salad. The salad is a traditional Greek salad: lettuce, cucumbers, red onions, a tomato, feta and an olive. The combination was a bit too salty for me and the tomato was the most refreshing part. The mixed plate had a bit of chicken, pork and lamb. Served alongside some rice and boiled vegetables. The chicken was my favourite, juicy, flavourful chicken. The entrees are quite a lot of food, so it would be possible to order a plate for two people. The environment was fun and bread was good. Ithaca Greek and Mediterranean restaurant have been around for years near the corner of McCowan and hwy 7. I have passed by for years, even glanced at their menu posted outside their restaurant in years past (since my mechanic is near by), but never ventured in. Today, marks the day where I finally took the plunge. The interior is a bit dated, but I like the Hellenistic ambiance. They even had the fireplace going. I was greeted by a gentleman who has a very matter of fact mannerism with a radio voice (who I assume is the owner). Don't laugh at me, but I went with a very generic order - chicken souvlaki on a pita. I'd say they delivered on a solid chicken souvlaki. The chicken chunks had the right combination and amount of spices; flavourful but not overly salty, which allows one to taste the flavour of the meat. The chicken was cooked well (not over cooked) with decent amounts of burnt. The pita was nice and chewy with a slight crisp exterior upon arrival. I would however suggest them to go easier on the tzatziki sauce. There was almost enough to turn part of the fries on my plate into some sort of fries supreme at Taco Bell. The sauce could surely be more garlicky as well. I didn't mind the fries, they were pretty good. They served medium cut fries with a thin batter, which were nice and crunchy on the outside, but you still get the fluffy potato inside and you can taste the potato. I actually found their ketchup interesting though. It came in a Heinz bottle (I do know of restaurants that just keep on refilling the bottle,but not with Heinz), but it honestly tasted like a concoction of ketchup and Maggi sauce. I didn't mind it either. The server did his job by checking on me once during the meal and was quick to clean off the table after I was done. Maybe a bit too quick where I didn't even get a chance to wipe my mouth with the napkin. I'd say it's an okay experience. Ithaca is a cut or two above the likes of Mr. Greek and Jimmy the Greek. 3.2/5 is where I would peg them at. Perhaps more personable service would be enough to vault them to a number that deserves some rounding up. It's not a bad option, but it was not a memorable experience. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time last weekend and I'm sure it won't be the last. I made my reservation online and received an email confirmation within a few minutes. Off to a great start. About ten minutes later, I received a phone call from the restaurant asking if I had intended on reserving at that location (my phone number has a BC area code still). I confirmed and thanked him for checking - I found that to be very considerate to call. We arrived a few minutes before our reserved time, and were surprised to see that the restaurant was basically empty. They seemed to be very busy with takeout and delivery orders, though, so that is a good thing. We ordered a few different items to share, including the trio of dips, grilled octopus, Greek salad, roast lamb and seafood pasta. Everything was so delicious. The grilled octopus was so tender and grilled to perfection. I hadn't had Greek food in a very long time, so I was very happy that everything tasted so good. I wasn't able to finish my entrée, so I took the rest home. I think it was one of the best roast lamb dinners I've ever had. Simply prepared, with light, fluffy roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables but so, so good. The baklava was also amazing. Perfectly flaky, and not too sweet. I have been here multiple times and everything is phenomenal! The chicken souvlaki is the most moist and tender i've ever had and never comes out dry. The rice and potatoes are also always cooked perfectly and there unlimited bread baskets. The feta on the salad is fresh and the service is also good (it is more of a traditional feel). Enjoys some really nice weather on the patio with great food. Our meals also came with a salad and garlic bread. Just from how well those were, you could tell it was wasn't going disappoint. Everything came in a timely manner and tastes as delicious as you'd expect. No more, no less. I thought the potatoes were a standout. Nicely seasoned with a fluffy soft texture. Would have liked more of a grilled exterior thought. The breaded shrimp was also very nice. Good balance of breading and well cooked shrimp. My only complaint is that the price was a little high for the portion size. Ive been to other restaurants that have a similar menu but they usually more rice and meat. We were craving Greek food and didn't feel like going to the Danforth, and saw this place once on Yelp and decided to finally try it. When we came it was before dinner it was not busy at all. We ordered the octopus appetizer which came with two tentacles, grilled. This was fresh and had a good grill flavor without being burnt. They also started off with some bread and some Greek salads which it was delicious, very fresh and a healthy amount of feta. I love that! For dinner we got the Chicken souvlaki dinner and the grilled squid dinner. The chicken was massive and a little bit dry, although the squid was really good. I have been trying to stay away from carbs but the Greek rice flavorful buttery and delicious that I could not resist. I will say that this place was good and considering it's not all the way downforth and pretty far east. The Saganaki is perfect (It's not part of the pre-fix but i love how they light it up and say Opa!). For the main course we got the seafood pasta, the sauce is nice and thick! really tasty. As for dessert it says we can choose from the dessert display. We chose the chocolate cake which didn't taste good at all. Was really dry like its been a couple of days. We've ordered from Ithaca Restaurant twice since the pandemic started and really enjoy their food! I've gotta say the portions are massive when you order delivery. Each dinner meal is around $20 and comes with souvlaki, a huge portion of rice, potatoes, salad, and garlic bread. We always have leftovers. The rice is marinated so well and tastes so rich just by itself. The souvlaki is always really tender and delicious as well! I am a personal fan of their gyro dinner. They do not skimp out on flavour or portion size at all! We've also ordered their flambéed cheese - which is super delicious too. TIP: there is reserved parking for guests to this restaurant right in front of their doors marked with a sign. House wine was surprisingly decent and I'm a wine drinker! TIP: Ask for the flamed appetizer, a great show. TIP : They have a separate entrance at the back of the restaurant if you cannot find parking at the front. Food portions were quite big, they also offer garlic bread to start. They encouraged their famous Greek salad however I wasn't blown away by it. I've been to this restaurant several times and they've been fairly consistent, with good food and good service. Ithaca is a decent sized place with a small patio out front and a separate entrance at the back for take-out orders. It's located in a plaza with a lot of very busy Asian restaurants so parking is often a problem, even though they have a few reserved spots right out front. FYI: there's a bakery and another restaurant opening soon right next door. We started with an order of fried Kalamarakia (calamari) and it was seasoned well but I would have preferred it a little crispier. We also had an order of Taramosalata (red caviar puree). I've only had this once before, a very long time ago, and I can't remember how that version tasted. I feel like this should have had more flavour. I found it very subtle. Garlic bread is included and was toasted nicely. I had the Gyro dinner with rice, roasted potatoes, steamed vegetables, and tzatziki. It was made and formed from ground beef and lamb. The flavour was good but doesn't measure up to the ones from Messini's (in my opinion). My friends ordered the Pork Souvlaki dinner and Seafood Platter which they all enjoyed. Portion sizes are very generous and all our meals included a Greek salad. The service was courteous and efficient, although there was a delay with one of the souvlaki orders because the kitchen missed it. Our server apologized several times. I have been to this plaza many times but never noticed Ithaca Restaurant. The plaza is very busy due to many other local restaurants. A friend invited me to have dinner there for the first time and i loved it! Going in, we were seated immediately. The restaurant was pretty quiet, only 4-5 other tables were being serviced. We were brought menus and water, service was very friendly. I ordered the gyro dinner plate. First came the salad and garlic buttered bread. My salad was topped with a lot of cheese which i appreciated. I loved the acidity and portion. The bread was nicely warmed and toasty, i really enjoyed the sesame seeds on it - added a lot of flavour. When we were closed to being finished, the entree came, the portion was huge. Came here on a week night with 6 adults and 4 kids. The restaurant was pretty empty. One person from my group ordered a roasted lamb, one of the signature dishes of the restaurant. Another friend of mine both ordered a shrimp dish but in different kinds. Shortly after, the dishes arrived. Shortly after, the waiter came to our table and informed one of my friends who ordered the signature dish that they sold out that dish. So my friend ordered another lamb dish, lamb chop and the waiter walked away. When the waiter finally came with the food. He once again said the restaurant ran out of lamb chop but inly had souvlaki. Even my friend and I ordered different shrimp dishes. We ended up given the same thing which I questioned about. I mean I could even tell the two dishes were identical even if I am not Greek. It looks really authentic and all the colours are vibrant and matching. It has personality and warming :) The owners are true to their culture too. We got 2 appetizers: Dolmadakia and Spinach Pie. The Spinach pie is very crispy, flaky and delicious! Though the dolmadakia is interesting too, i just find that the lemon sauce is oddly sour and artificial. Garlic bread was greeeat, so soft bread, though they just put 2 in a basket ... i wish there was more :( We also tried the galaktompoureko, which is a creamy cold dessert. We both had the single chicken souvlaki meal, which came with Greek Salad, one skewer of chicken souvlaki, roast potatoes and cooked vegetables, plus a plate of garlic bread. Just picked up take out to bring all the way home to downtown Toronto (was up in Markham for work today). Ordered the special for two plus an order of spinach pie and a galaktoboureko dessert (custard pie). The hot food was separated from the cold thus making two bags which I very much appreciated since I had such a long drive. Loved the food! Chicken and pork souvlaki were seasoned well and super tender. Greek salad was fresh and the homemade dressing was delicious. Spinach pie was very yummy, great thin crispy phyllo with tasty spinach filling. Tzatziki was also great, enjoyed the strands of cucumber. Rice and potatoes were good too, well flavored. We decided to check out Ithaca when we saw that some of our friends had been there recently. I've lived in the area all my life and I never noticed it so I was surprised that there was a Greek restaurant so close by. Located in a plaza on Highway 7 and McCowan, walking in was a surprise as the decor was very interesting and not what you would expect from the outside. Service was professional but not very warm. The restaurant still had a fair amount of people in it when we got there with more coming in. Very spacious and good for groups probably. The menu has quite a bit of variety and we were a little surprised by the prices. We hoped that at least the portion would be big. We got garlic bread before our meals, which was good. Very generous with the butter. They were also very generous with the feta cheese on our Greek salads, but the dressing was definitely too sour. We got the "light" version of the pork souvlaki and chicken souvlaki meal and we were definitely disappointed to see that it was almost all vegetables. They overwhelmed the plate and it looked like at least two thirds of it was vegetables, like we ordered vegetables with a side of meat. And they weren't even well made - it was all steamed and bland and on the soft side. The potatoes were definitely taken out of soup so at least there was flavor in them. The meal cost about 13-14 dollars each. However, the souvlaki itself (despite how little there was) was quite good. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside and flavorful. Not good enough to make up for the price though. Portion was definitely not worth it. My suggestion? It's a bit out of the way but Hunter's Pizza at Huntingwood and Birchmount is far cheaper and gives you much more for similar quality - maybe the souvlaki isn't as good but it's still a good meal and at least you're getting your money's worth. read more

We had the elevated section for ourselves and hosted 27 people. We were allowed to go earlier to decorate the place, which was nice of them. The restaurant is quite spacious and it didn't seem like out table was cramped for our large group. The service overall was good. Waiter was friendly. The interior is decorated with a Greek influence. It is very casual, borderline upscale casual. The orders were placed fairly quickly and very efficiently. They asked ahead of time if we wanted separate bills. The garlic bread and side salads didn't take too long to come out. I really enjoyed the garlic bread and salad, even though they were nothing special. There was a lot of feta cheese on the salad, which I really enjoyed. The main courses came out soon after. I ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner. The chicken was juicy and still nice and hot. The plate was not very appealing as the presentation was lacking. There were a few pieces of veggies and a very tiny bowl of tzaziki with a couple pieces of potatoes. The potatoes were delicious and I wanted more. The veggies were nothing special. Just seemed steamed and lightly seasoned. And I definitely needed more tzaziki with the meal. There was also a tiny bit of rice but I didn't care for it at all. I compared the size of the meal to the small dinners that were ordered and it seemed like the only difference was that rice was included in mine. I would order the small one next time as I did not think it was worth spending almost $5 more for rice. Overall, I say this restaurant is not bad. The prices are too high for the amount of food that you get. If the quality was above and beyond, I would not complain of the prices. It might be worth it to try this place once but I won't be returning any time soon. read more

For a long as I've lived in markham this has been the go to spot - I'm Greek and Have a few places I like this is one of them, beats the fast Greek food which is rushed... the salad here is wicked- the souvlaki never disappoints, gyros, saganaki, the dips, Kalamari, even the garlic bread. I am so happy they're down the road from me....you can order online on the phone and bam it's ready! Thank you guys!!!! read more

Went here for the first time with my college placement for lunch outing that I had planned as the clients were Greek and I figured they'd enjoy the traditional setting. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating of the clients' needs in terms of accessibility and also in working with a larger group which was great to see. Food was pretty good, a bit overpriced. I had the mousaka knowing that it had eggplant that was likely gonna be a bit mushy and not my preference, I quite enjoyed it. The usual weird taste I have come to expect with mushy eggplant was a lot more subtle and I was really able to taste its natural pure flavour. The béchamel sauce was deliciously creamy and rich. I thought the dish worked well together as a whole and I would definitely love to eat another mousaka again in the future. read more
