Travel from the US to Canada to enjoy some dim sum. Was it worth it? Yes indeed. Prices are fair and food is good. Located in a mall, they sell roasted BBQ as well. They don't push around steam carts, you order on the menu they provide and they bring everything to your table. We got some classic dim sum items and everything was good. My only issue was the chow fun. I had it at another restaurant why visiting and I don't know if it's a Canadian thing but the chow fun didn't have that wok hai taste I'm accustomed to. Come early it gets crowded quick. They give you a 2 hour time limit.

Roasted pork and BBQ pork with greens on rice

Tip: The BBQ stall that faces the mall has an excellent two-BBQ protein meal on rice. On Tuesday, I was heading over to my optometrist for my eye appointment. I typically use mall entrance 6 at CF Markville to head downstairs and get to the optometrist's office. There was a lineup in front of the BBQ stand that is a part of Auric King, a Chinese restaurant. It takes over the space that the Pickle Barrel had occupied for years. There were at least eight people lined up. It must be good BBQ. I went to get my eyes examined. I got them dilated. My prescription hasn't changed. I did stay at the mall for a bit until I took my less-dilated eyes home. Before I left, I passed by the BBQ stall again. No one was there. I saw that I could get two BBQ proteins on rice. I said yes to grabbing it for dinner. I got a man at the stand. I indicated what I wanted. He nodded. He then talked to his female staffer, who was more on the ball. He thought that I wanted two meals with one BBQ protein. Um, no. She got it right. I wanted roasted pork and BBQ pork as my proteins. I watched the man grab both pork slabs and chop them up. He got rice and greens, and put the pork on top. My meal looked so good. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. She put my container in a plastic bag. She asked if I needed cutlery. I declined, as I had some at home. I thanked both folks. I left with dinner and drove home in the snow. I went all in. I loved this meal a ton. The rice was perfect. There was some sauce from the BBQ pork that coated the rice. The roasted pork had crispy skin. The pork was delicious. I don't normally have roasted pork, except on special occasions. It was such a treat. This place did a great job. I loved the BBQ pork. It was so tender and was highly enjoyable to devour. I loved the greens. They made me feel like this meal was healthy for a split second... haha! I loved my takeout meal. I'd definitely get it again. This restaurant serves dim sum. I'll need to give it a try sometime. Came here for dinner and left feeling pretty underwhelmed. The decor is nice and the space feels upscale, definitely more of a traditional Cantonese banquet-style restaurant. The menu is what you'd expect: seafood, beef, chicken, and vegetable dishes meant to be shared family-style. That said, the smallest set menu they offer is for four people, so as a party of two we ordered it thinking we'd have lots of leftovers. Surprisingly, we barely had anything left to take home -- just a bit of pork and some vegetables -- which was disappointing given the price. It's definitely on the expensive side, and the food quality didn't really match what we paid. Service was actually great. The staff were friendly, attentive, and constantly clearing plates, which we appreciated. Still, the food itself was pretty average overall.

Chinese banquet hall/dim sum restaurant in the heart of Markham at Markville mall. Approach this restaurant with calmness and tranquility as you navigate the parking lot of Markville mall. If you're not patient you will lose your cool trying to find a close by spot with patreons battling to get into Auric King, Best Buy and just the mall in general. First look is the restaurant is very large, taking up a lot of real estate with its own take out bbq counter located just to the left of the restaurant entrance next to the mall entrance. Be prepared to wait in line if you haven't gotten there early enough. Crazy how busy this place gets but not surprised considering the population. Food is decent, they have really good short ribs and a specialty pink rice roll that is worth a try. Portion size is good per serving. Service is reasonably quick; they do a good job at bringing food over once ordered and nothing was missed ever. Most staff have a good smile on their face normally and no RBF which is nice. Overall 8/10 Food 9/10 Service 0/10 Parking unless you find a spot or go early enough on a weekday.

Came here for breakfast. Service is just like HK, quick hurried, efficient and once you become a regular, fantastic. You need to go in knowing what to expect. The restaurant has really spacious and the main dining room is expansive with interesting interior touches like a epic galaxy ceiling. The food was pretty good and a surprise after reading the not so great reviews. I will come back for dinner at some point because it's location couldn't get any better.

Lobster Stir-Fried with Longevity Noodles

My family and I enjoyed an early dim sum at Auric King on NYE 2025. To avoid long waits and perpetual hunger pains, we arrived before 10 AM and were seated immediately. Upon arrival, we were told there was a two-hour limit and were given a paper menu to place orders for small plates and chef's special dishes. While the service was a bit slow (understandable given how busy it was), we were able to finish and leave before the time limit without any issue. During our visit, we ordered the following: * Baked Milk Tarts with Bird's Nest (4) - Super flaky crust with a creamy milk filling; the bird's nest felt more decorative, as I couldn't really taste it * Pan Fried Turnip Cake (3) - Good, pretty standard; tasted freshly made * Grilled Squid - Nicely charred with lots of wok hay, well seasoned, and good texture; I definitely took more than my fair share * Shrimp Siu Mai with Pork (4) - Very fresh, meaty and juicy, the roe on top added texture; definitely recommend * Salted Egg Custard Bun (3) - Looks like a steamed mushroom, but surprise, it's a custard bun; super fluffy with a savory interior * Cuttlefish Siu Mai with Salted Egg Yolk (4) - Still good, but I'd stick with the regular siu mai next time and save a couple bucks since these were pricier * Seaweed Rolls Stuffed with Seafood (3) - Super crispy with lots of umami from the seaweed; the filling inside was also delicious * Steamed Dumpling w/ Crab Meat & Truffle (6) - I didn't enjoy the flavor of the filling and would definitely skip this; getting XLB at a Cantonese restaurant isn't the move * Steamed Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce - meh, the piece I got was incredibly fatty, which killed my appetite for another piece * Congee with Chicken, Fish Maw, & Abalone - Not good; they definitely use canned abalone, and the overall flavor was very bland, wouldn't recommend * Lobster Stir-Fried with Longevity Noodles - Good wok hay that the noodles soaked up nicely, with fresh seafood flavor and plump lobster meat This isn't our favorite dim sum spot in the area, but most of the dishes met expectations, with the congee being the clear miss. After we left the restaurant, my dad waited ~30 minutes in line for the Cantonese BBQ, located to the left of the restaurant entrance. We picked up roast duck and roast pork (char siu) to bring home for New Year's Day, and it tasted phenomenal even the next day. The duck was rich and fatty, and I liked that even the meatier pieces retained a strong soy-honey marinade flavor while staying incredibly juicy. The char siu was outstanding. I'm used to tougher pork textures after roasting, but this one was exceptionally tender and soft. The glaze was also delicious. Overall, I'd give the dim sum a 4/5, but the BBQ a solid 5/5. Decent dim sum is easy to find in this area, but the BBQ here truly stands out. Definitely worth waiting in line for the duck and char siu, especially the char siu.

Boiled dace fish balls (Medium size) $6.80

Came here on a Wednesday for lunch. At 1pm, we only had to wait for less than 5 minutes. Plenty of parking and convenience of being able to walk around the mall afterwards. We tried 5 dishes and they were pretty standard. They are good, but nothing exceptional. Each of these dishes was about $6.80 and if it wasn't for the nice decor, it probably should go for $1-2 less. The restaurant was about 90% occupied, and we got seated in the corner next to the cashier, fish tanks and entrance to the kitchen. IMO, I felt the heat coming from the kitchen. Cons: the service. We were in the corner so I suspect fewer waiters pass by. But at the end, the head waiter was busy chatting with another customer (a regular) while servicing our table. In a cheap $5-$15 per person restaurant, sure this behaviour is fine. When it is a self-declared 'upscale' +$25 per person restaurant, the head waiter should be giving his attention (at least half) to their immediate customer. Afterwards, the head waiter gave me the receipt, walked two steps, turned around and asked if he gave me the receipt . They even automatically add a 12% tip to the bill and an automatic $5 charge for tea. This restaurant has been in business for at least 7 months, so the newness has worn off. C'mon Auric, you can do better than this. This is definitely my pet peeve.

I always wanted to try this place given the lineup everyday for their bbq. I had the duck on rice for 15 bucks honestly it is definitely worth it for the price. They are making the duck fresh and cutting it with the rice and bok choy. Keep in mind they are using the same knife they are cutting pork with. The duck had a lot of bones but it had good flavour, I think they out Chinese five spice. And they give a ton of duck, the sauce they put on the duck is really good and it looks like good quality duck, the duck was really tender and succulent, it melts in your mouth I wann come here and try their dim sum next time.

Very beautifully renovated. Feels more classy than an old school dim sum restaurant. Good decor for evening banquets. Service was a little disorganized. Perhaps because they were busy, but 2 times we had some mix ups to our order , and both times we had to follow up. But once they were reminded, they were finally quick enough to bring us the right food. The food came out super quickly. This might suggest the food was premade and simply reheated. That said, the food was still good. Nothing memorable, but not bad. Felt slightly on the pricier side for some items, but there are a few items that are fairly priced. Mushroom bun - looks like a mushroom but the inside is custard. The custard was good, but if you're expecting to be awed by the mushroom component, it is simply that the bun is designed to look like one. Fried taro dumpling - not many places offer this and I was pleased by it! Would get again. Shrimp rice noodle - shrimp was large and fresh but rice noodle felt too thick Would be interested to try other items on their menu, but given their price point I wouldn't say you're missing out. Other than the newness and nicer renovations, I don't see how it stands out against other dim sum restaurants.

Actually, very good! We were here for dim sum, on Saturday around 11:30. Since it opened a few months ago, I've seen mixed reviews esp. dim sum. So, my expectation was not too high, I was here just to serve my mission - trying new XLB place whenever it pops up lol. But wow, I was actually very impressed. We tried the following items: # 5 Hot and sour fish with pickled greens and shrimp dumpling #15 XLB with crab meat and truffle #16 Pork XLB #18 Sticky rice in Lotus Leaf with chicken and egg yolk #34 minced Beef with coriander rice noodle #63 Seaweed rolls stuffed with seafood #62 Beef short ribs with honey sauce #82 Auric king signature fried rice Starting with XLBs, I would say, very well done! I am sick of dim sum places serving mediocre flabby and/or thick skinned frozen XLBs for unfair price. But here, the wrapper is beautifully hand pleated, thin with no tear and leaks. Plenty of soup. The soup was clear, which also meant not over seasoned. Meat was tender. Compared to DTF, it has less layer of flavour or depth (which is coming from fat) but this IS very tasty anyways. Crab one's Crab taste was a bit too subtle to me (I am a Crab lover!) but had good enough flavour. The best item was #82 fried rice. Very modest seasoning but each ingredient (shrimps, rice, egg, scallop, tobikko) played its distinct role and texture, and all harmonised well. So very well executed. Beautiful color with tobikko, and nice crunch and seasoning from dried compoy. Yum! Least liked was #18, bland. But the rice was cooked to the perfect texture. #5 was unique and beautiful presentation but the texture and the taste did not live up to its looks. All the others were "very good"! Will come back again for sure, with more people! Beautiful decor, nice service and good food - why not!

Not bad food. But I wouldn't say sensational. Exceptional service though IMO. They kept changing our plates and provided our dim sum dishes in a timely manner. We were there on a weekday and the large restaurant filled up in no time just prior to noon. Mostly older folks. Got some bbq pork and roasted pork to go at the bbq counter just outside. Not bad also.

What a steep drop in service after just 2 months of opening. Food: I'd rank third in my list of 16 dimsum Chinese restaurants I've tried. They're below Casa Victoria, which is below Golden Palace. Definitely don't order their red wine oysters: same taste as sweet and sour pork for a much higher price. Service: where? Every time we come for dinner, no one asks us what tea we want or to give us the dinner menu. We had to literally get up and chase a staff to get to us. We don't dress like hobos so I'm not sure why. The guy with a hole in his shirt at the next table got served. They also have broken chopsticks... 2 months in? I'm still kinda ick seeing they use plastic plates and saucers... Feels really cheap for a fine dining restaurant. They try to go for high end ambience but the servers really need to step it up to the level of service that Casa Victoria has and the level of food quality that Golden Palace has to even LEARN to be high end.

BBQ pork and suckling pig

We've been anticipating the opening of Auric King for a while. We couldn't imagine the old Pickle Barrel space being transformed into a Chinese restaurant. We waited for the rush to die down a bit and tried their dim sum at opening (9:00am) which in my mind is a bit early for dimsum but was worth it since we didn't have to wait. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was quite good. We got the sampler and the kids especially liked the soup dumplings which I wouldn't normally order from a dim sum place but they were super soupy and thin-skinned! We returned to try the dinner a month later and I loved that the kids were ok with it. They're pretty picky eaters and let us know when they don't like the restaurant. We started with the suckling pig/BBQ pork plate which came on a porcelain plate on top of a candle to keep everything warm. The BBQ pork was tender and tasty. The suckling pig had a crisp skin. We like to try sweet and sour pork at new restaurants as it's almost a staple for our kids. There are some restaurants where they won't touch it but there, they asked for more. If you like yours crisp, this is the place to go. The scallops and shrimp dish had huge jumbo shrimp. We also ordered some other dishes that were just as good. Bonus: walk off your meal in the mall afterwards!

The carpaccio was fine, pleasant but fairly straightforward, but everything else we ordered was excellent The octopus was tender, and hearty, paired nicely with potatoes, hummus, some greens, and capers. It was well-balanced and satisfying without feeling heavy. The steak came out a perfect medium-rare and juicy. The nut topping on the fish added a really nice crunch, contrasting beautifully with the soft, tender flesh of the fish. And then there was the duck: the clear standout of the night. It was beautifully cooked and seasoned. The fat kept it incredibly juicy without feeling greasy. The charred cabbage on the side added a subtle smokiness that tied everything together perfectly. Every bite honestly made me happier and happier. Getting to the restaurant was a little confusing at first, but once you're there, it's absolutely worth it.
