Appetizer platter

Casa imperial is hidden away in what looks to be a historical house on warden and steeles. From the outside, it's easily missable but perhaps that's part of the charm. Inside beyond the historical entrance is a restaurant decked out in gold and white from carpet to tables to ceiling, laces abound and giant european paintings abound. The service is professional and efficient. All of our requests (ex tea refills) were completed within acceptable time. Food: The appetizer has sweet and sour pork, fried pork chops, black fungus, green beans, and deep fried vegetable bean curd roll. All items were delicious and cooked well. Chicken and broccoli - this seems plain but they definitely cooked the chicken well with a nice seasoning that has some sweetness. Chicken is thin but still moist, broccoli cooked well but still has its firmness. Beef and cashews - the cashews and beef are plentiful and well cooked. The vegetables below are a nice balance of freshness. Abalone and pea sprouts - the abalone has its distinct seafood flavor though I felt it was a bit rubbery - not sure if it's due to where they sourced it or how they cooked it. Tough to cut and chew but has a great seafood flavor. Pea sprouts cooked well. Soup was served hot and was savory with bits of chicken. The lobster was done as I would have expected for Chinese restaurants but they work hard to prep pieces by making cuts advance so it's easier for customers to get out the meat. The fish was good - the batter was crispy yet substantial on both flavor and crunch. The fish was a bit of a firmer white flesh fish which worked well. The e fu noodles were done very well as was the fried rice. Quite aromatic and good way To end the meal. Price: Expensive! Definitely come for a special occasion but that's on par for most Chinese banquets now.

We came here for lunch with a new mission - getting out of our comfort zone and trying new things, as we have a confidence in their food handling skills after many years of visiting here (mostly for their popular dim sum items). As we were taken to the table, the server gave us dim sum menu only. I asked her if there is other "dine-in" menu. She said no. We looked for fried rice items in the dim sum menu, but there was no "fried rice" on it. The last time, we were given a "dine-in" menu alongside the dim sum menu. So, we asked another server for it. She immediately brought us the "dine-in" menu. I wondered why the first server did not give it to us. Anyways, I remembered we loved their "Seafood fried rice" last time we came here and we were very confident that other fried rice menu would also be great - so we tried "Pineapple and Chicken Fried rice": I liked the texture of the fried rice, as the last time. I also enjoyed the new flavor. I never had pineapple in rice and I liked it. Other items that we ordered were; "Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce": Disappointed as I expected stir-fly. The Chinese Broccoli was just plainly boiled, and came with a plate with oyster sauce. The texture was not great, waterly. Flavor was gone. Bland. "Scallop & Spinach dumpling (dim sum menu # 11)": "Good, not excellent. "Braised Vegetable Chicken with Squash (dim sum menu # 21)": The flavor was too strong, one dimensional. Not impressed. "Crispy Taro Dumpling (dim sum menu # 41): Highly recommended! We tried this food at different dim sum places, but here is the best so far. Not too sweet, hitting the great "saltiness and sweetness" ratio! The coating was light and crispy, LOVED this. "Pan fried Short Ribs with Sesame in Honey Sauce (dim sum menu #32): Our all time favorite. Not oily, not too much seasoning. The coating was light and crispy, perfect taste balance and texture! "Steamed Rice Noodle with Scallop and XO Sauce (dim sum menu# 47)": Our favorite item, must order. Plumpy and generously large scallops are wrapped in the tender rice noodles, goes perfectly well with XO sauce flavor and crunchy texture of the chili in the chili sauce. Our biggest adventure of the day was "Curry Vancouver Crab". In the picture, crab was coated with dry seasonings. So we were puzzled to see our crab covered in heavy creamy curry gravy. We were told to wear plastic gloves, and use utensils to break the shells, and there was no serving assistance offered from the server. We asked for instruction but the server did not respond to it, just left us with this large gravy-drenched crab and the tools. That was a huge let down. Also, never order Xiao Long Bao (dim sum menu #6) here. Over steamed, soup was not kept in the wrapper, running out onto the table. Disappointed! Their crispy spring rolls were just ok. Food may have hit and miss, which was OK as we were prepared, and that it has a lot to do with our personal preferences. However, the service was quite unkind and disappointing this time. :( Hope for a better service next time.

The food was delicious although on the pricier side for dim sum in Scarborough/Markham. The quality of the food & dining environment was worth the price. The menu doesn't specify what the price of the dishes were, so we ordered blindly for Small, Medium, Large & special dimsum dishes. They took reservations for 6 people at 10AM on a Saturday which surprised us but was very useful as it is usually hard to find dimsum table at that time.

Tea and dim sum are good . Nice and friendly services. Many parking spaces available and convenient comm.

Shrimp dumplings and Steamed Vermicelli Roll

Nice place for Chinese dim sum and meals. The building is turning from a old classic house and pretty stylish. Service ok but not great. Food is ok but no surprise. I ordered abalone tart, it tastes ok, pretty balanced. Bbq tart taste ok but a bit too soft. Cháozhōu style oyster soup rice is the best one, hot and tasty. Shrimp dumplings are ok. Octopus 魷魚鬚 only so so. The 2 dishes I really don't like are the scallops taro cake and Steamed Vermicelli Roll, pretty boring texture and tasteless. Overall is not back. They gave me the bill with a total, including tax and tips $100 in cash only. I am tired to ask if I can pay with credit card. Anyways I don't mind to go but not my first choice. The good thing is they has table during busy hour and overall food are ok. Cannot stand for long lineup just for dimsum lol

2.5 stars There are several tables setup on the lawn for outdoor dining and indoor the tables have been spaced out to allow for physical distancing. Dishes are ordered by marking it off on a paper menu and as items are delivered they are crossed off on the menu. After the first round of food had mostly arrived we got another menu for round two. At this point an order of chicken wings were still missing. A server assured us she would follow up with the kitchen. The food from the second round of ordering had been consumed and still no wings. What could possibly be taking so long??? I don't have an exact time of when our initial order went in but at that point it had been over an hour. We inquired again with the server but she could not give an explanation on why it was taking so darn long. Overall the food was okay but waiting almost 1.5 hours for wings really brought down the whole experience.

Dim sum in a mansion? Why not! The interior of this spot was definitely upscale. The dim sum menu included some unique items. We ordered the har gow, shrimp rice roll, beef and coriander rice roll, fried taro dumpling, chicken feet, clams congee, and the birds nest milk tart. I found most dishes tasted decent, nothing unordinary. A bit on the pricier side but an okay spot if you're looking for somewhere fancier to grab dim sum with someone special or people visiting out of town!

Brought home the leftover black sesame buns and lo and behold! There's a piece of metallic plastic inside! :(

I haven't submitted a review in years but I really had to this time because the moment we arrived, I had high hopes but this place turned out to be very disappointing! I also found something unexpected in the bun! :( PROS - Interesting atmosphere and architecture - We went on a Sunday at 11:30AM and got a table for two immediately - They had the sweet almond tea dessert, which I enjoyed CONS - As soon as I saw the har gows, I immediately noticed holes! In other words, they exploded during the steaming process! And when we tried to pick one up with our chopsticks, the entire thing fell apart. A properly made har gow should not have holes and should stay intact when you pick it up - The bird's nest egg tarts were very greasy and they all looked warped! - Although I enjoyed the sweet almond tea dessert, for some reason, they placed it in a bowl over a candle holder with NO candle. If it was burnt out, then whatever. But there was no candle at all. I think this was their lack of attention to detail or just pure laziness - I left the teapot lid open to indicate that we needed a refill of our tea. One of the staff members came and took it away but she never brought it back. Fortunately, we were near the end of our meal so we just finished up with almond tea dessert - The black sesame buns tasted OK but they also had holes in them (i.e. poor presentation again). I ended up taking it home and upon eating the last one, I found a piece of ***METALLIC PLASTIC*** mixed in with the egg yolk, which really compelled me to write this review! VERDICT - I don't recommend coming here - Overall, the food is mediocre and not worth the price you pay unless you don't want to wait, which is why we went in the first place

We walked in at 9AM on a Saturday and was able to get a table without that much of a wait. They have a wide selection of dim sums to choose from. We ended to getting a bunch of savoury and sweet dishes to try out. All of them were delicious! The servers were attentive - they came around often to make sure we didn't run out tea and that the empty dishes were cleared away to make room for the table. There were 2 things that lowered the rating of this review from a 3-star to a 4-star: 1. Prices weren't noted on the menu and 2. They automatically added 12% gratuity and the amount was just scribbled on the bill.

Four of us had indoor dining here today. The food was okay as was the service. Am I the only person that thinks the tipping practice here is totally DISHONEST?!!! My bill today was $82.72 and the Mgr said they auto add 12% tip. Total charged $93!! Tip on taxes plus they round up without telling me in advance!!! They punched in $93 on the portable credit card machine, gave me the credit card receipt and quickly walked away. It was only then I noticed their dishonesty!!!

Here's a secret, most dim sum places order their dishes in bulk from dim sum manufacturers and steam them up for you so, with that being said, most dim sum places taste more or less the same. The difference would be in the service and types of food you get. During the summer, they have about 8 or so gazebos set up outside on the lawn/parking for outdoor dining which is the option we went for. Service was typical but I think the food is more expensive here. The building is lovely but a bit unusual for a dim sum place. You order by ticking off the items on the carbon copy menu and wave it at a waiter. The food items came by pretty quickly. We went for 10am so there was parking available but by the time we were done, the parking was full and there started to be people waiting in line for tables.

Just dropped by yesterday for lunch! The dim sum was pretty good! I really like the shrimp dumplings and other classic dim sum that "must-order" to see if this place is good enough XD But unfortunately I think the congee was not good enough to be recommended on the list...I would give it a 4/10 The egg tarts were yummy but I still miss crown princess's durian pancake so much more :( I'm really sad that they seem closed down due to covid already. Hope they will re-open again. Overall it was still a great experience and worth going again! The castle is pretty and nice!

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Tea's a humble $1.50 a person, softening the blow of slightly higher food prices. So, what's so special about Tak Fu? Start with the siu mai or steamed pork dumpling ($7.99). Most places pulverize the pork into springy meatballs. Not here. The pork is hand-chopped, juicy, and tender, breaking apart easily with each bite. Finely diced mushrooms add a hit of umami, while a plump shrimp crowns the top instead of being hidden inside - simple, balanced, and traditional. Then there's the har gow or De fu steamed shrimp dumpling ($8.99). The shrimp are properly cleaned and not over-tenderized, keeping their natural flavour and crunch. They're cooked just right, encased in a slightly thick but satisfyingly elastic wrapper. The steamed bean curd roll with satay sauce ($7.99) is dense and hearty... half a roll will do. Its filling leans pork-and-cabbage heavy, more like a spring roll in taste, so it's not as exciting flavour-wise but still comforting. For a contrast, the steamed rice noodle roll with fried dough in special style ($7.99). The hot, crunchy fritter wrapped in silky rice noodle is spot-on texturally, though the hoisin and sesame sauces could be thicker. Maybe they're thinned out for easier pouring? The steamed rice noodle roll with BBQ pork ($7.99) is stuffed to the gills with big chunks of meat and nothing else. Pair any rice roll with the congee with preserved egg and pork ($8.99) and you've got a hearty solo meal. The pork's properly seasoned, the preserved egg plentiful, and the texture rich and smooth. For something lighter, go for the dried scallop & seafood dumpling in soup ($8.99). It takes time, but arrives piping hot with a massive dumpling stuffed with shrimp, octopus, scallop, mushrooms, and BBQ pork - generous and satisfying. The deep-fried squid ($9.99) might just be the best I've had: crisp, tender, and barely battered. There's also plenty of it to go around. Say what you will, Tak Fu doesn't skimp on portions. Even their fried rice noodle with beef ($13.99) impresses. Sliced beef, bean sprouts, and onions get a good kiss of wok hay, and those caramelized onion bits add a hit of flavour. A solid, classic version. If you can wait half an hour, end with the steamed milk ($7.99) for dessert. Lightly sweet, perfumed with ginger, it's a silky, nostalgic treat you won't find in many places anymore.

After a hiatus several years long, we've finally returned for dimsum! It was excellent!…read more They have a few unique offerings like the beef rice noodle roll with truffle and shrimp dumplings with sea cucumber. The menu didn't seem as extensive as other restaurants but there's enough to choose from. Keep in mind there are more options after 11am. Regular shrimp dumplings (har gow) were massive. We were quite satisfied after our meal. We definitely over-ordered. The tofu dessert was silky smooth topped with the ginger infused syrup. What a delicious dessert. Service wasn't as abrupt as other places. I might've seen a smile or two. The decor is opulent, if not excessive. It was reminiscent of French Renaissance. But hey, if this is what they're going for then they've achieved it. There are no special prices here. Be prepared to pay up.

Upon entering, you get hit with some old school decor vibes. it very red and gold in here. Before getting started on the food I went to the washroom which I felt was very dirty and unkept. Even on the way there/ the little wallway. Their chairs and tables also just felt very old and dated, perhaps could benefit from a refresh. The saving factor here is their food. I think the food was quite decent, with your classics of rice rolls, chicken feet, shrimp har gows, siu mais and more. Service was okay, nothing special but also nothing to complain about. Seemed like there were mostly locals/ regulars that dine there. Overall, thought this place was okay since the food is good but the vibes were not it for me.
