My family and I went on a trip to Toronto and this was the first spot we thought about going to for our breakfast spot. We got there pretty early around 9:15am. It opens at 8am every day, and there were people that had a full table of food or were already finishing their meals! This spot is not a super glamours spot, but it has a homey feel to it. Decent amount of seating - at least 12 tables seating around 25-30 people or so. It's a spot where people just order and go, so you get a table quite quickly. We got seated right away - we had. table of 5 people. We looked at the menu and ordered; not long after, we got our beverages and all of our items and they were piping hot! We ordered 2 steamed rice roll dishes (this is what they are known for!) which were the Sliced Beef with Pickle Rice Noodle Roll and the Egg Rice Noodle Roll. The rice rolls are expertly steamed and they were so silky smooth. It has a light bounce to it and I love that it is steamed to order. The ingredients are fresh and.I love how generous they are with the filling. We also ordered 3 types of congee (also served piping hot!) - Shredded Pork and Gold Preserved Egg Congee. Fresh Water Fish Sliced Congee and Pork Liver Congee. All the congee have the perfect texture. It's so homey to eat congee. I especially loved the fresh water sliced fish since the fish was super tender and requires no chewing at all. We also ordered the Fried Noodles with Bean Sprouts which is a classic dish to munch on and with your congee. For beverages, we ordered the Milk Tea, Coffee with with Tea (Yin-Yang Drink) and Soya Bean drink. All hot beverages and super tasty. I haven't had a good HK milk tea, so this was a pleasant drink for me! Quick customer service, delicious food, quite cheap and homey atmosphere. What's there not to love about yin ji chang fen. A must visit if you're ever in Toronto! read more

Packed on the weekends with lineups out the door, this small spot id buay for good reason. It's true comfort food. Who doesn't love a warm bowl of congee with some rice rolls on the side? We got the Pork Liver Congee, which was hearty, comforting, and had the perfect consistency. Every rice roll we tried was done just right. The beef was tender and flavorful, the shrimp rolls had a generous amount of shrimp without being overcooked, and the youtiao was fresh and perfectly crispy. The HK-style rice noodle rolls had that perfect chewy texture and paired so well with the classic peanut butter sauce. Nothing about this meal was a miss. And to top it all off, we had the HK Milk Tea served over a bowl of crushed ice. No ice in the drink means no dilution, while the crushed ice keeps it perfectly cold. Honestly, there's no better way to enjoy it. read more

Oh, we really like this restaurant. The location was facing the road, but the food and the prices were so good. When first time to download the app and ordered from it, customer gets 20% off. We ordered 2 dishes of ChangFen, and 1 bowl of congee to share, and also 1 cup of cold HKG style milk tea. The milk tea was in a bowl of ice cooling the drink from outside, instead of putting the ice into the drink. I really like that idea. We had the beef and pork ChangFen and shrimp and beef ChangFen. They were good, but just not enough soya sauce. My kid loved the shrimp and beef so much. The ChangFen was thin enough to see through. The seafood congee was having so much ingredients in it, which it was so traditional. We all loved the food and the taste here. We definitely enjoyed it and try to come back later. read more

This place has mostly 4 stars and that's their average. So 4 stars from me too. They nailed the beef and shrimp Cheung fun. It was soft and velvety and came out very quick. I also took one home as well with a sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. It too was awesome. The youtiao was also well done with the right amount of crispness and doughy taste in the center. Well done all around. I will be back for more. I definitely want to try their congee and more Cheung fun rolls An easy recommendation for this establishment. read more

I got the chang fen with fish And it was not amazing however the place was packed. The texture is okay and the fish scattered throughout was also just okay but not amazing. They are quick service have a menu that is all chang fen with different feelings such as meat or veggies. If you want a quick bite and crave this it's not a bad choice otherwise this is the type of food I would crave not too frequently. read more

Food comes out piping hot and fresh. Quality and taste of everything is authentic and delicious. Dough stick - crispy, not oily, fresh. Perfect with congee Congee - flavorful, delicious and great price point Rice noodle - the noodles were smooth and sooo good. Definitely must get. Try with any toppings Deep fried boas - nostalgic and crispy. Super good with the condense milk dipping space. Braided beef - the noodles was a little too soft. But beef was great with flavors. read more

Small decent place with a variety of rice roll dishes and congee bowls. Good customer service and fairly decent pricing. Best time to go is early if on the weekend. People were walking in and out of the place at around 9 AM. Lots of internal dining, takeout, and UberEats pick-ups. Parking can get precious by a certain time later on in the day. read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch. Congee serving is very generous and flavorful. I barely had to add any seasonings. We also tried the curry fish balls which was not bad! You order off a QR code and they bring it out to you rather quickly. We were able to complete lunch in less than an hour. The place isn't too big but it kept busy! read more

I saw this spot after doing groceries and decided to try since I've been to the location in NYC and loved the experience. You can do takeout or dine in. There was a QR code to scan to see the menu and place the order. I got the truffle mushroom and shrimp rice noodle roll and the honey lemon ribean. I enjoyed both! The truffle mushroom shrimp rice roll had enough truffle flavours and the sauce was really good. The honey lemon ribean was also nice and refreshing. There wasn't much aesthetics in this restaurant, it's just a no frills type of restaurant. The store front did have nice LED signage however. Overall customer service was normal, wasn't great but also not bad, kinda what I expect from a HK style restaurant.. I enjoyed the food and would definitely come again. read more

Why travel to HK for breakfast when you can have these amazing rice noodle rolls and congee here ?! Their rice noodles were super soft, perfect textured, and went so well with the pork liver congee I got. Their milk tea even came in a cute bowl of ice to keep it cold read more

Since their arrival in Canada back in 2018, Yin Ji Chang Fen continues to bring technique and classic flavours for their rice noodle roll and congee flavours! The service is very friendly upon arrival as the staff are keen to ensure a smooth and quick service so that you can enjoy your meal in and out in peace. The prices for the items are quite fair for the quality and quantity. For the rice noodle rolls, they live up to their commitment of white as jade for their silky rice noodle rolls that you can pair with any topping such as pork, shrimp, and even BBQ Duck! The congee is a nice texture that is served at a nice consistency in a good bowl of congee which highlights the freshness of whichever topping you may prefer to enjoy for congee. Overall, Yin Ji Chang Fen is a great spot whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or even a simple dinner! read more

Food: 4 Stars Service: 3 Stars Ambience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Satisfied For the longest time I had wanted to try Yin Ji Chang Fen but I always ended up going somewhere else since the food options in the area are so numerous. When I finally decided to come here I realized how much of a mistake it was skipping this place all these years. Now this is pretty much the only place I eat at when I am in the area as I love it so much. I have been here on many occasions now and each time I try to have a different type of ji chang fen but also a few staples which I always order. We always do an order of curry fish balls, HK style milk tea, and the dough stick rice noodle rolls. The dough stick rice noodle rolls taste really good and feels fresh every time we have ordered it. We ordered this at another location once and it did not taste as good as the one at this location. In terms of rolls, I have tried a number of them and you cannot go wrong with the basic pork & shrimp, shrimp & chives, and pork & chives options. Those always taste great. I have also tried the beef brisket rice rolls, shrimp & scallops, duck meat rice rolls. The only one of the three I enjoyed was the shrimp & scallops as I did not find the taste of the other two to be that special and the beef brisket one was really difficult to eat with the big chunks of meat. The best way to describe the service is that it gets the job done effectively and efficiently. They bring you utensils, your food and the bill (though the last time we went we had to order via paper menus instead of QR code) otherwise nothing special. I do have to mention that the food gets to your table incredibly fast so even when there is a line to get in the wait is not that bad since the service is so quick. The space itself is not incredibly large and at times when it is busy can feel a bit cramped but not too bad. The place seemed reasonably clean and bright so again no complaints there. Overall, this is a great place to grab a quick bite at the reasonable price. It has become my go to when I am in the area and looking for comfort food so i definitely recommend giving it a try as well if you are into rice rolls. read more

Got a table at 1120, place quickly filled up right afterwards. This location is larger than their other one, nothing fancy, tables all lined up in one square area Better wear some ear plugs as the service staff are constantly yelling at each other and to the back kitchen staff, lol Their pork & century egg congee is very consistent smooth and silky, however their pork was overly marinated and tenderized, not good. Plenty of pork and century egg though. Their fried dough sticks were more oilier then their other location. Nice stop a good quick meal on a cold wintery day. read more

Came by for a super late dinner the other night and it was a mediocre experience. Parking was available in the strip mall lot and the air conditioning was limited. Staff wore a mask and nitrile gloves. Ordering was done on a scrap piece of paper along with a paper picture menu. Started off with the shrimp rice noodle roll and it was mediocre. Although the rice noodles were rather thin, the shrimp were tiny and not super fresh...bummer. Moved on to the beef brisket lo mien and it was also mediocre. The lo mien was a generous portion and the beef brisket was very lean... Washrooms were compact and only featured cold water at the sink... The dust bin was overflowing... ~$15/head after tax and gratuity. Cash only after midnight. read more

Steam rice noodle rolls is the rage in NY the past few years so when we got a recommendation from my sister-in-law that we try this place. It didn't disappoint! We were thrilled to learn it was open late night so we can grab something yummy to eat. We ordered 2 rice noodle rolls, dough stick rice noodle roll and Hong Kong style beef brisket rice noodle roll. They were all so good! I ordered the hot soy milk, it is extremely hot so let it cool before drinking. Service is efficient. Table seating which they can combine for larger groups. This is the second time that I came to this small store tucked in a small shopping mall. They serve Chinese style breakfast from 8:00am and even offers good deal when you dine between 8:00-10:00am. It is hard to find a good value breakfast restaurant here in Toronto, not like back in China, breakfast has so many choices and they all open very early from 6:00am. I got the morning combo - porridge + rice noodle rolls + free HK milk tea. The porridge came in big bowl with lots of seafood, pork and peanuts, the rice noodle rolls having beef and shrimp, all very fresh and tasty, I also ordered Chinese donut. I was very full after the big breakfast, not having appetite for lunch. The porridge is good for 2-3 people, I wish they have smaller portion for 1 person. The service is minimal, but efficient. The interior is very simple, but clean. I would come again if I need warm Chinese style breakfast. read more

Cheap classic eats! Known for their fresh rice rolls, this place is busy, cheap and open late! Fresh rolls range in price starting at $5. The soy sauce for the fresh rice rolls is so tasty, sweet and a great compliment to the food. They use take out containers as your bowl when dining in, for easier cleanup I guess but not the most sustainable. Got the rice rolls wrapped around fried dough - a classic that comes with hoisin sauce and peanut sauce, doused in soy. This was divine! 10/10 The dried shrimp rice roll is also delicious. Super simple with the mini dried shrimp but packed with flavour and adds a harder texture to the rice rolls. 10/10 Congee is pretty standard here and a nice addition to your meal. Got the century egg pork congee, again a classic that you can't go wrong with. 10/10 Love this place as it's super affordable with great taste. Who doesn't love that right? read more

Our favourite chang fen stop! Family friendly. Service (Family Friendly): During our latest dine in experience, the staff asked if we needed a highchair for my daughter which was very attentive and considerate. We were brought tea and told to order from their qr code on the table. The ordering process was relatively simple, but you will need data on your phone as there is no wifi. As my daughter is still young (3yo), we tend to avoid eating at small restaurants during peak meal times (lunch and dinner rush) as she can eat pretty slow, so that usually means the staff are on break. Even so, the service we received was still surprisingly fast! Food: We've tried a variety of dishes, and ate in and bought for takeout. Very fresh, everything comes out piping hot. Our favourite is the dough stick rice noodle roll. The doughstick is crispy and light, not heavy and dense like many other places. The rice noodle are smooth and silky soft, evident of their years of practice to perfect it. The congee are flavourful and have the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too watery. They also have a selection of dim sum which was also pretty good. read more

Visited Yin Ji Chang Feng for the first time at their Yonge Street location and we loved it so much we had to go again, this time at this location and it is just as good! The braised pork hocks were exceptionally tender and flavorful. The pork and preserved egg congee was a delightful surprise; did not get a good picture but will likely be my go to when I want a more simple congee. The staff here is friendly and the pricing is very affordable. A lot easier finding parking at this location compared to the yonge street location. We were looking for some dim sum but most places were packed so we decided to come here for some rice rolls and congee. It wasn't too busy before lunch but shortly after, there was a lot of people. We were seated pretty quickly and served tea. Ordering here is electronic which was interesting. Scan the QR code at your table to pull up the menu and order. Submit the order and wait for your food. Pay at the end of the meal. We got a beef and chives rice roll. The rice roll is nice and thin, there was ample beef and lettuces and chives throughout. Flavor was great, came out piping hot and fresh. We also got the fried dough in rice roll. Really great crispy fried dough stick which contrasts the delicate soft rice roll. Peanut butter and sweet sauce of course makes this a flavorful dish. I have to emphasize the dough stick was still crispy which is uncommon at other places. We got the lai wan style congee. I probably would have liked a few more toppings inside but the congee is flavorful. Ingredients inside are delicious. Price: Everything before tax and tip was 20$ which is not bad considering the freshness, quantity and speed the food comes at. Great place for a quick lunch! read more

A great first stop on our Toronto food tour. There was a variety of chang fen options to choose from. We ordered a variety of chang fen. There was one in particular that I had never had or heard of before, fish. It was pretty good and a nice chance to try something different. The chang fen was smooth and not overly steamed, so done quite well. The flavors were good too, we ordered a nice variety, some with beef tendon, one with fish and others with pork and shrimp. Even the plain ones with fried dough was tasty especially dipped in the peanut/hosin sauce. We even got some of their plain stir fried noodles to try and those were good too. When you come here you are given sheets of paper to write your order down on. Also the bathrooms here are tiny, very very tiny. read more

If you pay with cash you get 10% off. Otherwise they accept credit cards. I ordered the beef and shrimp roll. Oh my gosh I'm glad I didn't order more because it's so filling. It also comes with Chinese leafy veggies inside and I really like that they give you a lot of that sauce because I usually ask for extra at dim sum places anyway. After you've paid they give you a beeper to let you know when it's done. They are also open to some indoor dining but not completely. I just waited in the parking lot. It was beeping after 10 minutes. Quick service. The rice roll is yummy. There was plenty of fillings as it could be a complete meal for 1 person. I had a great experience at one of their other locations in Toronto. Naturally, I had to come try this location too. My partner and I decided to check out Markham this time around. I love that you can order with the QR code at your table, so you don't have to wait for a server. They are also quick with bringing the food out, and each dish is freshly made to order. Our food was piping hot, and it amazes me how many different combinations they can think of with rice noodles. It is what they are known for, but they have more than just rice noodles. I also love how thin their rice noodles are, so you don't feel bloated but it also doesn't fall apart. There's also plenty of free parking on premise, it's shared with other businesses in the strip mall. It was also pretty busy for a Saturday morning. I'd totally come back when I'm in the area next, and I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. read more

You would think that Markham and Scarborough are cities now and that there would be many late night joints to get a good bite after 12am. Are you ever wrong! We came back from the airport and the only thing in close proximity that was opened past 12am was Yin Ji. I was shocked myself. Luckily the food here is excellent and never misses a beat. We ordered our usual seafood congee and pork and century egg congee. Both congees were flavourful and fluffy like it should be from a congee restaurant. We also ordered their truffle mushroom rice roll. I do not think I have ever ordered this before. The mushroom roll is good but the truffle can be overpowering. I could see why some people enjoy this. It was not bad but I would probably opt for shrimp and chives next time. Overall though, I had a great experience. I like to order online and the pick up process is very easy and smooth. But you can also order on Uber Eats for pickup/delivery or by phone. They usually have a family combo on Uber Eats as well (2 congers, 2 rice rolls, one snack, and two drinks). My usual go-to order is a pork liver, pork kidney, pork slice congee or the minced beef one. I get it without ginger slices, green onions, and peanuts (personal preference) with an additional corn topping. It is a good portion with quite a bit of the toppings in it. Although I do find the North York location sometimes gives more toppings. The pork liver is not overcooked. For rice rolls, I prefer their bbq pork one over their beef one. The bbq pork is thinly sliced and quite flavourful. They all come with a good sized tub of sweet soy sauce. Their dough fritters are pretty standard. My favourite is their sweet crueller!! It's a good size and they fry it in relatively fresh oil. Definitely try the sweet crueller if you have never gotten it before at congee places. This is definitely the place to go if you are craving some comfort food! read more
