    I've heard of this place for a long time, and finally got to try it out. It's a Sichuan cuisine restaurant offering varieties of numbingly spicy dishes. Expect a line-up after 6pm. Their inner renovation is very interesting. It is mocking ancient Chinese restaurants' renovation style but of course with much newer benches, tables and cashier desk. For the food, my advice is if you can't handle spicyness too well, start with the minimum spicy level here! We ordered fried green beans and deep fried spicy chicken requesting minimum spicy level. The vegetable dish was comparable to mild spicyness at other restaurnts but the chicken was medium spicy compared to other restaurants. Both dishes were super delicious and flavourful! It would have been better if there's more meat than bone for the chicken dish. We finished both dishes and most of yhe rice given how yummy the food was here. The service was also better than many other Chinese restaurants. They would provide you heads-up in when the rice would be served and provide you with mouthwash after dinner. I would definitely revisit and try their other dishes in the future!

    The dishes are flavourful and tasty! Quite spicy by default so make sure you specify the spice level. The service is friendly and if it is your first time, they will recommend popular dishes. The store is decorated like a hut and has wooden chairs which is kind of cool.

    Very flavorful Sichuan option. Was very happy with everything that we ordered, and will definitely return next visit to try more stuff. It is quite spicy... We usually order medium but were warned by the waiter that mild here is similar to medium at other spots. And he was right... Mild seemed to be perfect to enjoy the spices, yet not have to down liters of water or milk. We ordered the following: Beef with peppers Lamb Bullfrog Beef with peppers was our favorite. Had some slightly sour veggies to contrast with the spicy beef. Generous servings... more than enough for 3 people. Also note the rice bowls are huge. We ordered 3 bowls at the start but should have just got 2. Busy.... waited almost an hour to get seated. They do let you order the food while waiting, so it was already being dropped at our table as soon as we sat down.

    Food is tasty, great when you are seeking some spice. This type of cuisine is oily and strong in flavor. Service is very friendly and the server explains the menu with a smile. Decor is quite interesting. Crispy rice dish has a very nice crackling. We were provided with complimentary mouthwash sticks after, that's quite thoughtful! Cash and debit card payments only.

    If you like spicy and numbing experience this is the place. The good thing about this place is you can still request the level of spice and numbing to your likings. The food is very oily but very flavorful, must order steamed rice which was cooked to perfection. After each meal they offer you a small mouthwash sasche and was turn off to find the patron on the other table washing her mouth and spitting it out on her bowl. I only hope the really clean their dishes really good.

    I've been searching for a good Sichuan restaurant in Toronto and finally found the one! This place is super authentic and you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes you order. There aren't too many tables so you can expect a long wait time almost every night. They also don't take reservations so you would have to show up in person to leave a name and phone number. The good thing is that you can look at the menu and order beforehand while you wait in line so the food arrives almost immediately after you're seated! I went with my partner and we tried the suan cai yu (Sichuan fish with pickled mustard) and hui guo rou (double-cooked pork). Both had amazing flavour and goes so well with some steamed rice. It can get a little oily after a while but we also ordered a snow-pea leaves soup that balanced out the other dishes. All in all a great spot and worth the wait for some authentic Sichuan food. The service is also quite friendly despite them being very busy. The ambiance is quite lively and loud - there are many large groups and families that dine here. I would def come back with a bigger group to try more of their dishes.

    This places serves up Chengdu cuisine. The food is spicy, fragrant & numbing. The flavor and spices are just enough where it's not overpowering. They could go a little lighter on the salt though. The decor and vibe is fun and super cute. Reminds me of old timey China. The waitress was also very kind and helpful. Also, this place is cash only!

    This place is amazing! The food is spicy but fresh and bright. We came on a busy Sunday early afternoon and it was bustling. We had to wait but got seated faster than anticipated. The staff is friendly and focused, they gave us menus to peruse while we waited. As we looked around we knew we were in for something special. When you see a table of six young friends eating intently and silently and not looking at their phones! you know the food is good here. For a first visit we decided to get some familiar dishes. We had Cumin Lamb, Green Beans with ground pork, and a Stir Fried Pork with Hot peppers and Chives. They asked us how spicy we wanted it and we went for Medium. Which turned out to be a good decision. Each dish came hot out of the kitchen and everything came quickly. The spice level was perfect for us. The Stir Fried Pork had lots of pieces of green long peppers in it which were super tasty but it was prudent to avoid eating the pepper seeds directly. There were also whole garlic chunks in it as well. The sauce was hot and oily but in the best way possible - the dish still had a fresh bright feel to it. Same went for the Cumin Lamb and the Green beans. Very fresh taste, every little bit retained it's own flavor. We ate intently, enjoying every taste. The decor is also great. It has a nicely done rustic style that makes eating here just that much more enjoyable. It is a whole experience. We saw so many amazing looking dishes going to other tables, we are coming back to this place again very soon. A note that we traveled on public transportation from the west end of the city to get here. This place is worth a major trip. Also the address is wrong on this listing. I notified Yelp - but this restaurant is on Finch and Midland on the south side of the Sky City Shopping Center.

    Nian Yi Kuai Zi is my favourite place for Sichuanese food in Toronto. I always come here with my friends when we crave some Chinese spices. The interior here reminds me of the places for stir-fried dishes in China, and the staffs are friendly and attentive. It gets busy during dinner time, so go early to avoid lining up. The food is just as good as usual; some of our must-haves when going here are: Stir-fried taro and bone-in chicken Stir-fried konjac and sliced beef with green & red chili Stir-fried green chili and scrambled egg Stir-fried pork kidney and pork liver with chili If you love and can handle spice, definitely give this place a try.

    4.5/5 The Richmond Hill venue is far better than the Scarborough one, but constantly with long queue, we came at 5pm on a Friday night for early dinner with no queue. Foods are consistently good, a bit oily but all dishes are very flavourful. Service is always prompt. Overall it's a good dining experience.

    I had a craving for spicy food and mala spice and decided to try this hidden spot in Richmondhill. This place used lots of hot chilli and the fish stew was my favourite. It came with fish, noodles and cucumber. We also ordered clams and a fried pork dish. The fish was hands down the best out of the 3, I would come here again. Service was great and they were quick and friendly. The atmosphere is a nice cutely decorated Chinese restaurant with wooden benches and tables, which makes it very cozy!

    Perfect experience!spicy taste let me remember when I traveled in Sichuan. Every dishes are just corrent the best way.

She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The also gave us wet wipes and more napkins without us requesting it. They even offered us additional soup, which we declined as we were quite full.

This establishment has been here for years. Some people might find the decor outdated but it holds special memories to many of us patrons.

We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

If you break it down, it's actually such a good deal: the snakehead upgrade is usually +$3 each and their handcrafted drinks run around $6. No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit. But I am not sure if I'd come back again.

They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.
